Pretty sure it’s COVID. So let’s talk science, history, statistics, politics and facts. It’s got me a little rattled. I’ve had COVID at least once before. I slept 48 hours, dealt with flavorless food for a week and it was gone. The incubation period was a little over a week. This time, I presumably got it from Mrs. Doc who came down with it first. Within 12 hours both I and our youngest got it. We may all have been exposed at the same time, given her weakened immune state. Hard to say. But 12 hours is lightning fast. I then gave it to an employee. I try to never breathe on people, as I have a thing about being breathed upon. Still, standing shoulder to shoulder with him, within 48 hours he got it.

Viral infections have no cure. No vaccine. A vaccine is made up of dead, crushed cell parts of the bacterium, injected into the host (you and me), it allows the bodies soldiers a snapshot of what to look for so when it sees it or any mart of it, it can isolate and destroy it. mRNA doesn’t do that at all. It modifies YOUR genetic markers, changing you, hopefully to be resistant to the virus. That in my not so expert opinion is a wildly dangerous theory that should NEVER have been tested on the population.

So, 12-48 hours incubation. Where else have we seen this? 1918 with the Spanish Flu. That too was a Corona/SARS virus. It was a naturally occurring hybrid of swine and avian flu. The incubation period was an estimated 12 hours. Diagnosed, the patient was dead within 12 hours. It attacked the young, vibrant and healthy. Starting with cold like symptoms, observers witnessed a plaque build up of White Blood Cells presenting as mucous on the back of the throat that quickly spread to the bronchioles rendering them worthless. The patients would turn a deep purple to black color and then, just prior to death, all of that mucous/WBC plaque would simply vanish. They literally suffocated. In 1918, the average daily death toll in Philadelphia was 426. That’s per day. Let that sink in.

From 1918-1926 the newly established Department of Public Health, along with the US Army and the insurance company Mutual of New York conducted a study. What they found was the wearing of (cloth) surgical masks did nothing to slow or abate the spread. Also, the imposition of quarantine was a death sentence for those not infected, living in the same residence.

The US government has had in its labs since 1967, COVID-19. It was by direction of Dr. Fauci, approved by President Obama that the bio weapons lab at Ft. Detrick be shut down and those agents/experiments be outsourced to among other places, Wuhan, China. That is China, a communist country/enemy of the US.

Dr. Fauci and Dr. Collins funded the Gain of Function research of COVID-19. There are two very similar definitions for the term Gain of Function. The civilian definition is that it is the ability to understand what makes a given virus/bacterium tick so that we can then either kill it or render it ineffective. Sounds good. The military definition is the same but the goal is to enhance its virulence all the while we can control/target it to a given enemy. Think mustard gas and gas masks in WW I.

Now, think back to 2020 when this thing sprang out of nowhere. No one stopped to ask how Dr. Fauci knew immediately what it was. Nor did anyone bother to question his constant reversals on whether or not wearing a mask was necessary. He just knew because he is smarter than the rest of us. At least, that is what we were told.

Immediately, the US Army deployed a Surgical Field Hospital to NYC. Dozens of refrigerator semi trailers were brought in as holding containers or the onslaught of dead that they were sure were coming. A month went by and due to great expense, having seen only 100 patients, none of who had COVID-19, the Army packed it in and went home. The CDC brought in Dr. Birx who changed the way we count Cause of Death. People who objected quit and were immediately silenced. No longer interested exclusively in COVID-19 as the Primary COD, we now actually paid hospital groups to test the dead for COVID-19. Literally, you could die in a horrific car crash, and post mortem be tested for, pop positive and then have that secondary, tertiary or ancillary finding become the Primary COD. Philadelphia 1918, 426 per day. Philadelphia 2020, you weed through and filter out the extraneous bull shit diagnoses and what you end up with is a probable 23 per month. A monumental intentional inflation of numbers. Now pay attention because here where federal law and policy matter.

In 2012 President Obama signed into law the new Smith-Mundt Modernization Act. That allows the government to pay “news” sources - like ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, etc., to report propaganda pieces that can be patent lies. Now think fear mongering, suspension of inalienable rights, and the liberty to exercise those rights.

Federal law requires that there be no other known cure available, in a time of “national emergency” to suspend and waive requisite testing of new drugs or vaccines. There were again doctors: immunologists, who spoke out against mRNA and pointed to other drugs that could prove effective. Just like those at the CDC who opposed Dr. Birx, these experts were shut down, silenced and in several cases imprisoned.

Sound like “conspiracy theory”? Think twice. Look up nuclear testing on US military from 1946-1962. Having signed a record of non disclosure many went to their graves carrying that secret. That non disclosure was finally lifted in 1996. MK Ultra, The Tuskegee Experiments, etc.. Would the Democrats diabolically unleash this upon the world to rid themselves of Trump? Both Charles Schwab and Bill Gates insist this is exactly what happened - and they are both in favor of it. I’m not saying the Democrats did this, I’m only looking at history, their party history. Figure the odds. And so many want to turn healthcare over to these monsters?

Last month, I was just sooo excited about so much music (see: the giant five-star songs list)--I must have used up a whole lot of my enjoying-music energy, since this month I withdrew a bit & got super picky. (Which, for some reason, meant only enjoying three artists--Repion, Majiko, and Mon Laferte--for a solid week. No, I have no idea why my brain chose those three in particular!) So, I'm not feeling as sparkly as I did when I wrote last month's post, but there was still some awesome stuff this month (which is why I'm doing a top 20 instead of my usual 15!!).

Most of my favorite releases this month ended up being not-kpop, but my top 3 kpop releases of the month would be: "Undefeated" by XG (*insert obligatory acknowledgement of the "is XG kpop?" debate here*), "I'll See You There Tomorrow" by TXT, and "Candy Crush" by ARTMS!

By FAR my favorite release this month. This has the same indie-boy euphoria as "joyrider" by second thoughts, which is an instant win in my book!

3. Abittipsy -- Youha

I think I'm a normal amount of angsty for a college student! "Abittipsy" signifies an about-average amount of angst... right?

4. It Was Coming All Along -- Maggie Rogers

I don't really understand these lyrics, but they've been haunting me anyway. I guess I never get tired of this kind of apocalypse song--the ones that aren't even all that angry or scared anymore, they just sound completely exhausted. For me, they're always the most powerful.

5. Solo en Vos -- Luciana Tagliapietra

Loving the trend of synthy music that sounds straight out of a video game! And this synth is especially well-produced--the texture is IMPECCABLE.

6. Death To My Hometown -- Bruce Springsteen

Down two spots from last month, but still awesome!

7. Luz -- Ine Güemes

Another repeat offender! (I told you, this month wasn't all that exciting.) It's moved up a spot from last month, though. This album has a stranglehold on my soul btw.

Just an average Repion song--which, of course, means it's fantastic and has been my go-to song every single day for the last month.

11. Spotlight -- Creepy Nuts

I love Creepy Nuts so much, and this one encapsulates everything that got them on my stan list in the first place--the incessant energy, the creative instrumentals, the rock influences !!!

12. Undefeated -- XG, Valorant

Yessssss sound design for the win!! There's never a dull moment in this song--XG really are bringing the thrill back to girl crush, and I couldn't be happier!

13. Nightshift -- Bruce Springsteen

This month's sulking song, I dare say? I'm SOOOO lucky I got to hear it live in March, and I've been addicted since. And it makes me SO SAD OH MY GOD--

14. Stayaway - Now, Now Remix -- MUNA

I still love the original, but this one had me at house keys!

15. Martes -- Repion

I'm getting sooo tired of complimenting Repion (look, I've been doing it nonstop since the release of their album last February). So I'll just say: harmonies good yes.

16. The Kill -- Maggie Rogers

Watching the live performance on YouTube broke me a little. This isn't the most exciting song, but Maggie Rogers makes it SO emotional in the most wonderfully subtle ways--a little sentimental, a little resigned. As Phoebe Bridgers once said, "I feel something."

17. Dice -- Onew

The album is better, but this is really cute! I must have left it on repeat while doing homework or something this month.

I like the lyrics way more than I like the actual song, but I like the lyrics a LOT. "There's a God / in the sky / don't believe him." GODDAMN.

Five-Star Songs (& Albums!) This Month

Alley Rose -- Conan Gray (Now THIS is how you make retro exciting again. "Alley Rose" has disco and psychedelic rock built into the bones of its Elton John tribute, and the layers and layers of influences are just so endlessly fascinating to me!)

Amárrame -- Mon Laferte, Juanes (I ran across this during that weird week where I could only enjoy like 3 artists, and I'm so glad I did! I already expect Mon Laferte choruses to be wonderful, but this one still managed to take my breath away. Love at first listen, the vocal layering and the drums and the VOCAL LAYERING GUYS GUYS LISTEN TO THAT CHORUS. To my 10th grade Spanish teacher--I like a Juanes song now! Sorry it took me so long lol)

World -- MUCC (I've liked this since it came out, but it just hit differently this month. I don't know, maybe I'm just more obsessed with multilayered vocals than usual this month--which would explain the Repion obsession, actually...)

Como Bailan los Demás (Lado B) -- Delfina Campos (I think I'll always be that guy who wants my albums aesthetic, and this selection of hazy, muted club tracks is exactly what I'm looking for in an album worth leaving on repeat. It all flows together so effortlessly, and Delfina Campos really got my attention with these performances--so delicate, and so captivating. I'll have to go back and check out their other stuff!)

Happy Donghae Day!

Well, we’ve made it through another year and it’s time for Donghae Day! To be quite honest, I don’t know that I thought I’d still be such a big kpop fan in the year 2023 - I’m not sure I was even thinking about 2023 when I became a kpop fan back in 2011. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that 12 years have passed and then other times it seems it went by in a flash. But here we are - on the 12th annual Donghae Day!

For those (very few) of you who are new - October 12, 2011 was the day I learned about kpop. I’ve been celebrating this day in various ways since then. Prior to 2016 (when I was working 2 jobs), I usually went out to dinner with friends or treated myself to something nice. Since I started my full time job in 2016 (!) I’ve taken the day off almost every year (except 2020) if I was working. And this year is no exception! I don’t have any real big plans, except to go to H Mart and maybe Trader Joes. My life is so exciting, I know.

But that’s been the theme of the past few Donghae Days, ever since the pandemic took over our lives. I am one of the few people who still doesn’t go out (I haven’t really been sick since 2019) and see people that often, though I am seeing people, so I am not a complete shut-in. But Donghae Day isn’t to talk about these bad things (and god, there have been so many this year since the entire world is on fire). Instead, it is to talk about things that are good and happy - because those do exist.

Most every day (unless I’m off visiting my dad), I fire up my watch later and listen to the most recent releases (kpop and others). There’s a lot of great music out there and finding it and consuming it makes me happy, as does sharing it. That’s why I still do my song-a-day playlists! Every day since Kpoptober 2020, I’ve been posting one song a day and it’s still going. My first kpoptober was 2019 and I’d originally meant to just post in October, but after the pandemic, I decided I wanted to share music every day, so here we are. It’s a true labor of love, since all the tracks I post are ones I like (and sometimes adore). You can find links to all of the playlists (YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music) by year here:

Also in 2023 (some sad stuff happened: Moonbin, I miss you) - there were new groups that debuted and others that had comebacks, but for me there were a few specific comebacks that made me really happy:

It’s hard to explain, but I don’t know that I thought either Teen Top or Infinite would ever come back, in spite of the fact that neither group had ever mentioned they were disbanded. Both of those releases were great and I am so happy they’re still making music. EXO coming back was also quite a shock (especially considering all the drama surrounding them and their contracts). However, their release was enjoyable as well (and in the process, my favorite members changed again - don’t ask or maybe do). And, of course, the rest of of ONF returned from the military - what a delight! Their release was also wonderful (and I think their albums might arrive today, which how perfect!) and as great as their previous ones. And while, sure there are plenty of other groups who’ve come back with great release this year (Just B, I’m looking at you), these four really meant a lot to me.

Over the past year it’s not just music that I’ve been consuming. I’ve made my return to watching kdramas and watched a couple of Chinese dramas as well. This year (2023) I’ve watched (and finished) 6 dramas (see them here), not as many (yet) as 2021, but more than 2022 (when I watched none). I’ve also been watching a lot of anime, both with the (virtual) anime club I am a member of and on my own, which has been a lot of fun. I’m reading more and have found my way back to Animal Crossing again, which has been a lot of fun.

But the real thing that keeps me going are my friends and family. Donghae Day only exists because my journey as a kpop fan hasn’t been alone. I have made so many wonderful friends, some have come into and gone from my life, but many others are still here. Not all are connected by kpop, some are people I’ve known for years (online and off), others I’ve only gotten close to recently and still others I've known only through places like Discord. I am forever grateful to these people, close friends and acquaintances alike. They have made my life a better place and I hope that I’ve done the same for them, even in just the tiniest of possible ways.

Al exponer los motivos de su iniciativa durante la sesión ordinaria de este martes, el diputado integrante del Grupo Parlamentario del PVEM indicó que las personas con discapacidad son uno de los sectores sociales que más barreras y dificultades enfrentan para acceder a derechos básicos como la educación y el empleo, y en ese sentido, enfatizó, resulta importante modificar las leyes en comento para promover su inclusión laboral y garantizar la igualdad de derechos. La propuesta plantea, además, incorporar en estos ordenamientos que las instituciones y empresas generen la implementación de programas de capacitación y sensibilización, la eliminación de barreras en los centros de trabajo, y establecer que bajo ningún motivo se pague menos sueldo a un trabajador con discapacidad que el destinado a una persona sin discapacidad, por la realización del mismo trabajo. Álvarez Angli reseñó que según datos proporcionados por el Censo de Población y Vivienda 2020 del INEGI, de 3 millones 540 mil 685 personas que habitan en Guerrero, el 6 por ciento presenta discapacidad, y de ellas un 47.3 por ciento son hombres y un 52.7 por ciento mujeres). Por lo anterior, el legislador considera que el Estado, a través de sus autoridades, tiene la obligación de generar oportunidades laborales a las personas que viven con alguna condición de discapacidad y en igualdad de condiciones frente a los demás, de modo que puedan desempeñarse de manera libre en los órganos de la administración pública, gobiernos municipales, empresas, industrias y comercios. Con estas modificaciones, precisó, puede darse un paso importante en cuanto al cumplimiento de los derechos humanos plasmados en la Constitución Política y en la Convención de los Derechos de las Personas con Discapacidad. También, apuntó, se busca generar que las empresas sean más incluyentes y no discriminatorias, para lo cual se propone en la Ley de Fomento Económico, Inversión y Desarrollo del Estado de Guerrero Número 487, un incremento de hasta el 50% al estímulo adicional en el pago sobre remuneraciones en favor de los negocios que contraten dentro de su plantilla laboral al 20% de personas con discapacidad. Esta propuesta parlamentaria fue turnada a las comisiones unidas de Atención a las Personas con Discapacidad y de Desarrollo Económico y Trabajo, para su correspondiente análisis y dictaminación. Iniciativa Por su parte, el diputado Marco Tulio Sánchez Alarcón (Morena) presentó una iniciativa de reforma y adición a la Ley de Gestión Integral de Riesgos y Protección Civil del Estado para establecer la figura de "refugios seguros", como instalaciones habilitadas y equipadas para resguardar de manera digna, segura y adecuada a las personas afectadas por fenómenos naturales, conforme a los estándares internacionales de protección de los derechos humanos. 🖼 “BUCÓLICA” 🌎📷

💥 Exposición que nos presenta una selección de treinta y cinco obras, a través de dos de las series de su colección fotográfica. La primera comprende escenarios del Perú y del Mundo, territorios ricos en historia, tradiciones, diversidad natural y cultural.  La intención del autor es mostrar la expresión estética de grupos humanos que viven y diseñan sus paisajes a través de vínculos armónicos con la geografía, como en el Valle del Colca, las planicies monumentales de Chinchero, la Toscana (Italia) o los viñedos romanos del Duero (Portugal).

🌚 La segunda es una serie nocturna que muestra retratos y escenarios andinos registrados durante sus viajes a nuestro país realizados entre los años 2009 a 2022. Aquí el protagonismo es de los peregrinos del Qoyllurit’i, tradición religiosa sincretista que ocurre en las alturas de Ocongate (Cusco). Ambos conjuntos fueron realizados con técnicas por las que es considerado una referencia en Brasil: la fotografía infrarroja y el «Light Painting» o pintura con luz.

🚨 La fotografía infrarroja registra una parte del espectro de la luz y color que son invisibles al ojo humano, posibles de ser capturados a partir de su grabación en películas o sensores electrónicos modificados en laboratorios especializados para ese fin. La técnica del Light Painting, desarrollada por Cepeda, consiste en iluminar con un trazo de luz al objeto fotográfico, mientras se toma el momento con una cámara de larga exposición.  El resultado es una pintura fotográfica plasmada en una película analógica a modo de lienzo o en una tarjeta de memoria digital. La duración del registro o del “click” puede variar entre un par de minutos a casi una hora. Ambas técnicas son identidades visuales que Cepeda utiliza para revelar un mundo oculto a través de su caligrafía personal. Gran parte de su acervo, como varias de las imágenes que componen la exposición, es producido en película, con cámaras de formato grande, fabricadas en los años cincuenta.

“SISTERS” DE MAR NOVO EN COMPETENCIA OFICIAL  39° FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE CINE EN GUADALAJARA  

Proyecto filmado en locaciones en Guadalajara y Tapalpa, Jalisco, se trata de la ópera prima de la directora mexicana.

Producida por CM Films, Las Caminantas Films & Espectro MX Films, la película fue coescrita por sus tres protagonistas.

Tres hermanas méxico-americanas se reúnen después de varios años sin verse para hacer juntas la Peregrinación Tapalpa en busca de un milagro. 

Este 2024, la sección Hecho en Jalisco del 39° Festival Internacional de Cine de Guadalajara (FICG) tendrá entre sus 10 filmes en competencia oficial a Sisters, la ópera prima de la directora mexicana Mar Novo. Protagonizada por Marta Méndez Cross, Virginia Novello, Valeria Maldonado y Cristo Fernández, este proyecto tendrá tres funciones para celebrar su estreno nacional el martes 11 y el miércoles 12 y jueves 13 de junio como parte de las actividades del festival.    María, Sofía y Lucía son hermanas méxico-americanas, crecieron como mejores amigas. Ahora, como adultas, una traición entre Sofía y Lucía ha separado a las hermanas. Mientras María, que se enfrenta a una enfermedad, busca reunir a sus hermanas en un paseo espiritual por Jalisco. En su viaje se encontrarán con una variedad de personajes que las ayudará a reconectarse.    La magia de México las llena de aventura y esperanza. Sin embargo, la tensión entre Sofía y Lucía empeora y las separa nuevamente. La peregrinación las unirá en un intento de encontrar sanación y salud que sólo obtendrán a través de entender el perdón. La película ha tenido una significativa ruta de festivales que incluye su participación en el 31° Raindance Film Festival 2023 en Leicester Square, Londres; así como ser parte del San Francisco IndieFest 2024 en su edición número 23; tuvo su premiere mundial oficial en LALIFF en el icónico Chinese Theaters en Hollywood Blvd; y que ahora añade al 39° FICG como el primer festival latino en el que la película es exhibida.  Así mismo se encuentra en negociaciones con la distribuidora internacional Myriad Pictures.    (Fe de erratas) Mar Novo, es una escritora y directora de cine y televisión. Es miembro de la comunidad LGBTQ+ y fue parte de Women in Film en 2016. Mar se graduó de la New York Film Academy con una Licenciatura en Bellas Artes en Cinematografía.   En 2021, escribió y dirigió el cortometraje premiado "MAR I ANA", que recibió el premio al mejor cortometraje en el Festival de Cine LGBTQ+ de Toronto y estuvo en el FICG36. Dirigió la película "Sisters", que fue parte de Raindance 2023, está oficialmente seleccionada en FICG39 y LALIFF 2024.   En 2023, Mar formó parte del cuarto de escritura para la serie original de Amazon Prime "Mentiras", una adaptación de la obra de teatro musical de José Manuel López Velarde. Además, su guion "White Island" fue seleccionado en el Storylines Lab de Qua Non Lab. Actualmente se encuentra en desarrollo de su siguiente largometraje “70 Especies o Más.”   Con las actuaciones estelares de Marta Méndez Cross (The Bounce Back, 2016), Virginia Novello (Gone, 2011), Valeria Maldonado (En las buenas y en las malas, 2019) y Cristo Fernández (Ted Lasso 2020 – 2023), esta película tiene la peculiaridad de también contar con el trío de protagonistas como co-guionistas, productoras y la productora tapatía Denisse Prieto (Ya Veremos, El Mesero), así como el actor tapatío Cristo Fernández como productor ejecutivo a través de su casa productora Espectro MX Films . Etkisiz hale getirilen teröristin İçişleri Bakanlığı terörden arananlar listesinde gri kategoride yer alan  Sofi (K)adlı Mehmet Yıldırım adlı terörist olduğu; 8 güvenlik görevlisinin ve 15 Sivil vatandaşın şehit edildiği;8 Güvenlik görevlisinin ve 10 sivil vatandaşın yaralandığı 6 ayrı eylemin faillerinden biri olduğu tespit edildi.
