Oh, how quickly the ‘all-natural, integrity-in-beauty’ era crumbled. Just two weeks ago, it was all about The Nue Co.—clean, mindful, pure. Because, of course, ‘health is what you put in your body, feel on your skin, and breathe through your lungs.’ Fast forward to today, and suddenly, we’re bathing in 111Skin like a sponsored lab rat. Jet lag hit, and poof—so did the commitment to ‘clean beauty.’ Turns out, integrity is just another PR buzzword when you have no real ethos of your own. What’s next? Crystal healing or a Botox spree?

It was 2am. How the hell was it already 2am? How the hell was it only 2am? Deziree should have been asleep at least 4 hours ago! Beauty sleep was a highly valued commodity when you could no longer afford Botox and the 111SKIN Celestial Black Diamond Eye Cream. Why wasn't she sleeping?!?!
Ah, that's right. She couldn't. Her stupid brain would not shut the fuck up. Every time she closed her eyes, something else reminded her of another something else, and another, and another, until her whole brain was very, very, very loud and oh-- were those tears?
The 111SKIN Celestial Black Diamond Eye Cream couldn't even save you from those. Not from the tears, or the necklace, or the kiss, or Charlotte La Bouff, or that other blonde, or--or-- Maybe she should dye her hair? Go Kardashian blonde or something. Oh my God, but the box dye! Ew! God, her life was so over!!
What would her mom say? Did it matter what mom would say? Eugh, of course it matter. It had been so long, and still, as ever, Deziree did not know who she was without mom's heavy stare and marked words.
She was basically a failure, if mom could call her something. All that practise to get a man, get money, have status, and here she was barely making her car payments and hung up on a no-name boy who was (at least in Deziree's eyes) interested in everyone and anyone. God forbid mom finds out about the buttons...
The truth was, despite her personal failings, she couldn't stop thinking about stupid Travis Montgomery in amongst how absolutely desperate she was to just fall asleep.
She couldn't help but think about that kiss, hidden beneath a dark veil in the corner of a party, or the necklace that was stuffed in a box at the back of a drawer. She couldn't help but think about the coffee, or the car ride, or... Anastasia puking in the back of said car. Ew! Way to ruin the moment again, Stas!
Deziree could only hope there wasn't another phone call to go pick her sister up tonight, because tiredness and driving wasn't a good combo, even if she could use someone's shoulder to cry on. She sure as shit wasn't going to wake up Ella at this hour.
It was 2am and Deziree was exhausted. She was hysterical. She was delirious okay?! Deziree did the unthinkable.
She picked up her phone, found his name, and hit record on what was only supposed to be a short, to the point voice note. "Hey, this is--"
Sniff.
"--This is gonna sound really stupid, but, like, um, do you remember that, uh, that one time that you came by to pick me up because Stas was a riot and you were like hey, anytime, no problem bestie? And there was coffee and you saw my-- nevermind! Not that point. The point is-- I don't know what the point is. The point is! That-- Look, I know it's like 3am and you're probably sleeping or off, I don't know, like making out with someone or fixing a car or something but I can't stop-- I can't-- I can't sleep."
Just enough pause for a deep inhale.
"I can't sleep and it's driving me nuts and I don't even know what I'm saying or why I'm even making this voice note or-- no. No, I do. You said if I needed you I should call you and... I know this isn't technically a call but..."
And an exhale.
"But if you're awake, I wouldn't mind..."
And thus, the voice note went on for a further 3 minutes, becoming no clearer as time went on.
Whoosh.
Turns out, holding your thumb on the record button for 5 minutes is quite tiring and... whoosh! The message sent the moment her too-tired finger was released.
Gasp.
The post-send clarity was a bit too real...
Oh no! Oh no, no, no! That wasn't supposed to send! Shit!! Shit, shit, shit, delete, delete, please del-- It's fine, he's not online! It's fine, this is-- wait-- he's online, why is he online?! Why is he online at 3 in the morning?! Deleeeeete!!
Deziree's heart-rate spiked well above safe levels when the read receipt lit up blue. The only thing she could possibly do was send another voice note to make it absolutely clear that he should not listen to the first voice note! (He'd seen it, she couldn't delete it yet. Then he'd know something was wrong!!)
"DON'T LISTEN TO THAT LAST MESSAGE IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO SEND IT WAS ACTUALLY AN ACCIDENTAL RECORDING AND IT'S NOT IMPORTANT!!!"
And another.
"You can just ignore it. Seriously! Everything is actually fine. Go back to sleep or fixing your car or whatever, just pretend you didn't even see anything. Bye! Goodnight! Fu--"
If her life wasn't already over, it certainly was now...

'The media frenzy surrounding Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan’s latest three-hour epic, has yielded many gems: endlessly dissectable interviews, plenty of big brooding fits, and a smattering of anti-internet meme fodder. As far as I'm concerned, though, the press tour's most tantalizing gift was the chance to gaze upon star Cillian Murphy's architectural cheekbones. During a recent London photocall, as Murphy posed leisurely in a cardigan and Sunspel tee, his impeccably-defined cheeks glowed with even more of a sunkissed smolder than usual. The red-hot images left me with a single searing question: “ID on the bronzer, bro?”
Thankfully, Gareth Bromell, the celebrity groomer who prepped Murphy’s hair and makeup on the Oppenheimer press tour, was more than happy to let me in on the secret to his client's healthy glow: Tom Ford powder, in a matte shade of Terra, applied with a soft Chanel powder brush. “The powder doesn't have any glitter or shimmer, or anything like that, which I think is very important for male clients,” Bromell explains. “You want them to look sunkissed but you don't want them to look like they're wearing makeup.”
All men could benefit from a touch of bronzer before a big night out, Bromell says, but "especially gentlemen from, let’s just say the UK and Ireland, who are a little bit paler than others. They’re not exposed to the sun as much.” Cork native Murphy, perhaps the most Irish of all Irish actors, certainly qualifies there.
To get the radiant red-carpet look, Bromell advises targeting the exaggerated points of your face where the sun would naturally shine, like the tips of the cheekbones. “Then, I work it into the left and right of the forehead, the points that are a bit more raised on the face shape, and the center of the nose, a bit on the chin, the ears, and a little on the neck—but a very light dusting.”
Prepping your skin before the bronzer, however, is just as critical for looking your dewiest self. “Especially in men's grooming,” Bromell says, “the skin tends to look a little drier and oiler than with women.” When grooming Murphy, he begins with a cooling cleanser and toner from UK-based brand Haeckels, follows up with a pair of hyaluronic acid and vitamin C serums, and then allows those to soak into the skin with an LED mask for about 5-10 minutes. “That brings up the pigmentation in the skin for a healthier glow.”
Another of one of Bromell's tricks for giving Cillian a rosier complexion? A clickable self-tanner from UK brand James Reed that's “very popular on the male grooming circuit.” After applying a 111Skin face and eye mask to seal in moisture, he mixes two clicks of the Click & Glow pen with some moisturizer, then works the tanner all over Cillian's face. “I apply that into the skin and that develops over an hour and it’s very, very natural and adds a really beautiful glow to the skin.”
The clickable pen helps you control how much you use, Bromell says, and mixing it with a moisturizer or sunscreen dilutes the pigment. “When I use it for myself, it just looks like I’ve been in the sun for a day. It lasts a couple days and fades naturally. I always say less is more and you can always build it up if you don’t feel tan enough.”
Just be wary of getting too close to your hairline as it can stain that area, and be sure to use some cleanser to wipe some off if you get a little heavy-handed with it.
You might not have Cillian Murphy's sculpted cheekbones—or if you do, my DMs are open—but a little bronzer and a tan-in-a-pen will still go a long way towards making you look and feel like a red-carpet-ready star whenever you hit the town.'

A decade ago, blue-chip beauty brands owned the New York runways, with makeup brands like MAC, Nars, Maybelline and Covergirl sponsoring the lion’s share of shows, using them to tease products or raise the profiles of their contracted artists. This season, however, it’s indie beauty brands that are getting the bulk of the attention. The most memorable looks of the current season, from Collina Strada’s leopard spots and jewel-toned accents (care of clean-girl staple Ilia Beauty) or Thom Browne’s freakish feathered eyes (from the DIY lash extension label Lashify) came from brands rarely, if ever, seen before on the runway. The practice of “skincare sponsors,” which emerged in the late 2010s, also continued apace. Runway makeup artists, like Pat McGrath or Charlotte Tilbury, were once lauded for creating gorgeous skin on the runway; now, brands like Peach & Lily, Facile and 111Skin have set up shop backstage, hoping to link modelesque skin with their acids and masks. A model receives a Facile facial backstage at Sandy Liang. (Facile) For all of them, fashion week is still a marketing exercise — a way to elevate their products and gift them to models, influencers and other tastemakers. But the changing atmosphere has inspired optimism among some longtime artists that fashion week beauty could return to its once-experimental roots. Joseph DiMaggio, a hairstylist and founder of hair collective Shokunin Clik, counted this as his 33rd New York Fashion Week backstage, and his first working with Italian haircare brand Duomo, which made its runway debut this season in New York. “It’s evolving and changing,” he said, after approving the jasmine buds that were to be woven into braids at Bibhu Mohapatra. “In the past, it got really boring. Fashion Week is about going for it. I feel like we’re getting back to that.” The Beauty Bell CurveBackstage was a simpler place back in the 1990s, when Tilbury and McGrath were cutting their teeth. Fashion and beauty media’s proliferation — in magazines, then in blogs — helped draw the attention of beauty advertisers, creating the 2000s and 2010s backstage ecosystem that resembled something between a trade show and a factory floor churning out gorgeously made-up human beings. But those returns have diminished, as evidenced by big brands' divestment from the runway. While some labels, like Clinique and Covergirl, have ceased to sponsor shows entirely, others have greatly reduced their exposure on the New York runways. MAC, which once officially sponsored the various international fashion weeks (and supplied over 850 shows worldwide every year) has lately sponsored just a handful of individual shows, including Kim Shui, Luar and Christopher John Rodgers. Nars, a former backstage mainstay, worked exclusively on Khaite this season. Tresemmé was the only beauty brand to serve as an official NYFW sponsor, while Maybelline, which served as a sponsor last September, not only abandoned that role but didn’t appear at a single show so far in 2025. Bobbi Brown made her return to NYFW after an eight year hiatus with her new brand, Jones Road, at Lingua Franca. (Jones Road) Sponsorship can cost as little as $10,000 and as much as $50,000-plus based on a variety of factors (size of brand, gift bag inclusion) not including supply of labor or product. This economy is crucial for fashion designers seeking to offset the six-figure costs of their productions. But as the relevance of runway beauty is ceded to TikTok creators and rapid microtrends, big brands are less confident the investment is worth it. As one communications professional put it, “our marketing spend can go a lot farther elsewhere.” For indie brands, however, an NYFW sponsorship can elevate a brand toward high fashion, one of the reasons false eyelash brand Lashify started getting involved in 2024. Working with designers and makeup artists allows the brand to experiment with “crazy editorial stuff that isn’t necessarily going to take off in the market,” said Sahara Lotti backstage at Thom Browne. Working with emerging designers also provides a more natural fit for a burgeoning beauty label. Kallmeyer, a New York label increasingly known for its elevated basic clothing, staged its second show this season sponsored by Saie, a New York label increasingly known for its elevated basic makeup.“I’m a younger designer, so it’s a little bit more difficult getting those bigger sponsors,” Nigerian designer Tia Adeola said backstage at her show in Brooklyn, where a plentiful display of chartreuse gift bags from Serena Williams’ Wyn Beauty held court in the middle of the dressing area. “Which is why I’m grateful for Wyn.” Wyn Beauty's sponsorship of Tia Adeola emphasized the beauty brand's new lip liners and glosses. (Mary Kang) The show’s look emphasized the lip liners and glosses new to Wyn’s collection, which were gifted at the show and after-party. “We were looking for an organic partnership,” said Derin Masha, Wyn’s head of brand. The LA-based skincare brand Facile also made its runway debut this season, at Sandy Liang, staffing estheticians to give models facials with their Destress or Brighten serums. The opportunity to partner with the designer, and expose their product to her fashion-forward cohort, was an “invaluable” tool for building their brand awareness, said co-founder Danielle Nadick Levy.Art PartnersThough not so much a destination for boldfaced brands, New York Fashion Week remains a hive for boldfaced artists — and provides an opportunity for indie labels to access them. For years, the makeup artist Dick Page served as Shiseido’s artistic director, and often worked on behalf of the label. This season, the artist was contracted by Ilia Beauty for the Collina Strada show, where he created leopard spots with the brand’s Eye Stylus eyeshadow sticks, which are set to launch on Feb. 17 and were promoted using backstage footage on the brand’s Instagram and TikTok channels. Key artist Dick Page applies leopard spots with Ilia Beauty's new eyeshadow stick, promoted in conjunction with Collina Strada's Fall 2025 show. (Ilia Beauty) The Collina Strada show brought indie brand Ilia Beauty together with makeup artistry legend Dick Page. (Ilia Beauty) But one of the most surprising match-ups occurred at the tail end of NYFW, courtesy of the experimental makeup artist Isamaya Ffrench and Lashify. The show’s themes, which combined birdlike textures with academic fabrics and textures, were reflected in spindly feathered eyelashes colored black, yellow or green. Some models received a necktie painted across their lips. “Thom loves to do different characters,” Ffrench said backstage. “One of the issues with Fashion Week in general is, we only have about three hours to do a makeup look,” Ffrench said. “We get a whole day with Thom’s show, so we get to do something really extraordinary. I think there are some real key shows that do stand out and still are relevant. Thom is one of them.”Isamaya Ffrench's avian-academic makeup for Thom Browne Fall 2025 show. (BoF Team) While Bobbi Brown the brand took care of makeup at Altuzarra, Bobbi Brown the artist made her return to NYFW with her new label, Jones Road, as a first-time sponsor. At cashmere line Lingua Franca’s show, held at the Bowery Hotel, Brown and her team painted a cast of models that included Jenna Lyons, Pat Cleveland and Molly Ringwald. Instead of one show-wide look, Brown asked the models what kind of makeup they usually wore, and did her best to replicate it for the show. It was Brown’s first time backstage after nearly a decade. Was it also, perhaps, a signal that runway beauty had returned? “I haven’t really looked at Fashion Week in all the years I’d been not doing it,” Brown said, rubbing a tawny shade of Miracle Balm into Lyons’ cheeks. “All I could say is, I would hope so!” Sign up to The Business of Beauty newsletter, your complimentary, must-read source for the day’s most important beauty and wellness news and analysis. Now that we've entered the peak winter season, my beauty routine is due for an update. My typical lightweight moisturizers will not cut it for the chilly months ahead. Keep scrolling to see what made the cut, and get ready to click that “add to cart” button 24 times.www.skinmedica.comDigital Products Best Hydrating MoisturizerSkinMedica HA 5 Hydra Collagen Replenish and Restore Hydrator ($192)“In the summer months I spend most of my time at the beach, and although I make sure to moisturize before and after, wear plenty of SPF, and even a hat, my skin still takes a beating. I try to keep my face out of the sun as much as possible, but for the most part I rely on good skin-care products to help my skin out. The SkinMedica HA 5 Hydra Collagen Replenish and Restore Hydrator has been an absolute lifesaver, especially after long days at the beach. It’s lightweight, made with five different forms of hyaluronic acid, plus avocado oil, passion fruit seed oil, and vitamin F.” — Renee Rodriguez, staff writer and social producer111skin.comDigital Products Best Lightweight Moisturizer111Skin Cryo Revitalising Moisturizer ($200)“Made with ginseng complex, and a blend of eight types of hyaluronic acid, the 111Skin Cryo Revitalising Moisturizer is as luxurious as it gets. Every time I use it, my skin feels refreshed, hydrated, and it even looks a little less puffy. The texture is silky and smooth, and I especially find myself reaching for it in the mornings when my skin needs a serious wake up call. Pro tip? Stick it in the fridge to get an even cooler effect when you slather it on.” — RRsephora.comDigital Products Best Pre-Styling CreamStraight to Wavy Light Pre-Styling Cream ($60)“When the Dyson team told me the reason behind developing these new hairstyling products, it immediately made sense. I love my Airwrap, and I think it’s one of the most innovative tools on the market. However, I agree with (apparently) many consumers that it can be challenging to get the hairstyles to hold. The formula contains oyster mushrooms, grapeseed, castor, and argan oil, and beeswax to reduce frizz, protect against heat, and boost shine, in addition to helping with hold. The mushrooms within the formula are responsible for the soft and moveable yet structural hold that’s designed to make your styles last longer. All I need is a few pumps, and my Airwrap curls last all day. You can read my full review here.” — Jessica Harrington, senior beauty editorsephora.comDigital Products Best Shine TreatmentOribe Mirror Rinse Glass Hair Treatment ($64)“Oribe just launched its new Mirror Rinse Glass Hair Treatment, and to say I’m obsessed is an understatement.
It’s made for all hair types, but it leaves my fine, frizzy hair looking silky and glossy after just one use. I apply it in the shower after shampooing and conditioning, leave it on for one minute, and then rinse it out. It gives me glass hair that lasts until my next wash day, and the scent is amazing.” — RRDigital Products Best Setting PowderMakeup by Mario Surreal Skin Soft Blur Setting Powder ($38, launching 9/1)“Fans of Mario Dedivanovic’s brand, Makeup By Mario, have long awaited the arrival of a setting powder to the brand’s lineup. The Surreal Skin Soft Blur Setting Powder has a weightless, ultra-fine texture that smooths skin for a satiny finish and locks makeup in for 12 hours of wear. When I apply it to half of my face, I can see a noticeable difference in how my complexion products look: with the powder, they melt into my skin for a flawless look. It comes in seven shades, allowing you to find the perfect match.” — JHlaurageller.comDigital Products Best Bronzer StickLaura Geller Beauty Serum Bronzing Cheek Lift ($18, originally $30)“Don’t take away my beauty editor card or anything, but I’m always too lazy to apply bronzer, let alone contour my entire face, because of the extra application and blending required. Who has the time! If there’s anything to change my mind, though, it would be this bronzing stick from Laura Geller Beauty. The sponge-like applicator makes it easy to dot it on, and the serum formula is lightweight enough that blending takes (quite literally) one second. The result is natural looking, and the time spent is minimal — just how I like it.”— KCTower28Digital Products Best BlushTower28 BeachPlease in Finest Hour ($20)“Tower28’s latest blush launch has been my go-to product this summer. Technically, it can be used on the lips and the cheeks, but I love applying it on my forehead, nose, and even underneath my eyes for the perfect sunburned blush look. It feels like a second skin, doesn’t break out my acne-prone skin, and it always gets me tons of compliments whenever I wear it.” — RRsallybeauty.comDigital Products Best Lip OilLamel All in One Lip Tinted Plumping Oil ($8)“When it comes to beauty products I will always test no matter what, lip oils are at the top of the list. When I got a mailer with the Lamel All in One Lip Tinted Plumping Oil inside, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but let’s just say I was blown out of the water. Not only does the formula make my mouth feel ultra hydrated, but one of my girlfriends actually asked if I got lip filler while I was wearing it (true story!). My favorite shade peachy, which goes extremely well with my natural lip color.” — RRnaturabrasil.comDigital Products Best Body Lotion KitNatura Ekos Castanha Body Lotion Concentrate Kit ($17)“Maybe you’ve never considered playing mixologist with your body moisturizer, but trust: the extra hydration is worth every extra second. This kit contains highly concentrated Castanha, or Brazil nut, so all you have to do is pour TAP water into the refillable bottle (don’t worry, the label indicates how much is enough), dump the concentrate into the water, and then shake, shake, shake for the most moisturizing body lotion you’ve ever tried. Not only that, but it’s a product you can feel good about using: the brand itself sustainably sources all its ingredients from the Amazon rainforest and gives back to the hundreds of indigenous tribes harvesting and looking after the plants and fruits.” — KCulta.comDigital Products Best Body WashOsea Undaria Algae Body Wash ($32)“This body wash has become my go-to for shaving — the formula is nice and slick, with not much foam to it, making it perfect for gliding a razor along my skin. I love that it leaves my skin feeling super hydrated even after a fresh shave, which I can’t say for most actual shave creams. It has cemented itself in my shower routine for good.” — Aviel Kanter, director, branded contentrescuemd.comDigital Products Best Body CreamRescueMD Revitalizing Body Cream ($248)“I know what you’re thinking: $248 is a lot for a body cream, but this is no average lotion.
The brand is known for its ultra-reparative and restorative serums, and now, it’s brought that same science to a body product. The formula contains the brand’s signature DNA repair complex, peptides, and antioxidants. It reduces redness, firms, moisturizes, plumps, and fades discoloration.” — JHsnif.coDigital Products Best CandleSnif Half Baked Pumpkin Smash Candle ($34)“I am fully in the ‘I hope summer never ends’ camp, but there are a few things that can get me in the mood for fall, and one of them is the Snif Half Baked Pumpkin Smash Candle. It’s a seasonal scent that they brought back this year, and if you get the chance to smell it, you’ll understand why. It’s a sweet and spicy blend that will fill your room with notes of pumpkin spice, cinnamon salted maple, and roasted chocolate. Um, yum.” — RRblueland.comDigital Products Best Laundry DetergentBlueland Laundry Set in Spring Bloom ($25)“I’ve been thinking a lot about overconsumption and waste lately, and one area that I know could use a lot of improvement is laundry. Think of all the waste created from detergents, fabric softeners, dryer sheets, and so on. I love the new Spring Bloom scent from Blueland. The laundry set contains 65 plastic-free tablets that you simply toss into the washing machine — no measuring needed. Once you run out, you can buy a replacement pouch. It’s easy and eco-friendly.” — JHnordstrom.comDigital Products Best White Floral PerfumeFrederic Malle Carnal Flower ($295)“When I first spritzed this perfume, believe me when I tell you I let out an immediate, visceral ‘OMG’. It smells like a sexy, oiled-up moment on a Polynesian beach thanks to the notes of tuberose, orange blossom, and jasmine absolute. It’s definitely bursting with white flowers, but it never feels sickly sweet or overly femme. I’ll be taking this summery scent with me into fall, forecast be damned.” — AKJessica Harrington is the senior beauty editor at PS, where she writes about hair, makeup, skin care, piercings, tattoos, and more.
