That gives res publica a wonderful kaleidoscope of meaning â it is the collective property (the âcommonwealthâ) of the citizenry but also the communal affairs, the matters of collective concern, the actions undertaken for the public benefit and indeed even the public benefit itself.

Iâm sorry if Iâve been a bit inactive with brainrots, school has been stressful and on top of it Iâve been struggling with my condition. Everythingâs just been really heavy on me with how frequent I go to see doctors. And I may have a rare syndrome that may have affected why I grew so short (4â10). So yeah Iâve been re-reading a lot of your lovely fragile!reader works throughout the weeks.
But I keep thinking on just Zandik holding fragile!raeder while they ramble about their problems. Itâs like their own safe haven, wheee you feel heard and protected by the only person whoâs stuck by your side since childhood. :( I just wanna snuggle against his strong arms and fall asleep to the sound of his heart beat. Or just being comforted through examinations while Zandik checks to make sure your vitals arenât deteriorating. But a little angsty thought: on one occurrence where Zandik is checking your vitals and he sees they havenât improved but slowly decreased. Seeing that the medication you take is useless and heâll need to batch something up quickly before you take notice or grow concerned. Also, fragile!reader going to Zandy for cuddles or inviting him into their room so they can cuddle. You put on a fake smile and brush it off as âwanting to be with your favorite boyâ. But in reality you just really need comfort but donât want to nag Zandik so frequently that youâll just be a nuisance. Yeah just fragile!reader always feeling guilt </3 itâs how Iâve been for the past few days.
But I hope you have a much better week than I have had!! And I hope itâs okay to ask, but I remember you writing something about the Harbingers having a âmeetingâ to figure out whoâs the mysterious veiled figure who is at times seen outside the lab with Dottore. Iâm not sure if you ever finished it or forgot about it you donât have to answer this Iâm so sorry.

HI đ ANON MY LOVE!!! <333 Please don't worry about me or brainrots! I just want you to take care of yourself. That sounds so so stressful I couldn't even begin to imagine. I hope you're managing to get rest between all of that :( I wish i could provide you with more than my words and virtual hugs, but I sincerely hope things get better for you. *hugs* And to answer your question, I'm still working on that fic, slowly but surely! It's probably going to take a while due to school and whatnot but it'll be finished eventually. I also ended up changing the title to Latin since all my Dottore fics have that theme but I also realized how bad online translators are for Latin so right now the tentative title is "Medicus potest amare? (responsum est quod sic)" That's probably way too long so it'll might get shortened. But yeah!! I hope you enjoy it when it comes out đ anon â€ïž
But yes! Many of the times Dottore can't really help with your problems, since they're probably related to your illness and whatnot, but what matters to you is how he listens without interrupting or nitpicking. Whether you're on his lap or cuddling together he holds you very tightly, he unconsciously holds you like that as if you would leave him. But you don't complain since you like the security of his arms. Though if it's something within his ability to do, whether it's simple or not, his clones will get it done for you. Just to make your life even the tiniest bit easier. Examinations are never fun but Zandik being the one who does them makes them a bit more comforting :( You probably dread them a lil bit since they're just a constant reminder of your sickness but Zandik and his clones do try their best to make it as stress-free as possible for you :) which is honestly a challenge for them at first considering what they usually do but dneuwidfd they'll do anything for you, yk?
Wahh the angsty thought is unfortunately a frequent reality for Dottore... </3 No matter how much he sees it, he can never truly get used to it, there's always a sharp twinge in his chest. Though he never tells you what he sees... he doesn't want you to take on extra burdens. And ughh,,, cuddles with baby Zandy ;(( honestly his childlike innocence and smile make you feel a bit better but tbh he's still a smart boy so he can probably tell when you're lying and genuinely feeling down! Zandy will still cuddle with you of course but he will probably tell Dottore that he noticed how sad you are, and soon enough the Harbinger will be in your room again. Reminding you that you are not a nuisance. That although his methods aren't conventional, he's your husband, and he's here to help and comfort you. That you two will be together until the very end of the world.

Hey, this is a bit of an odd question. Thank you for answering of you do!
Iâm writing fanfic but I wonât bog you down in the details of that universe and make it generic.
My married couple had a baby through surrogacy. The wife/mother is Jewish and practicing. The husband/father is not. He used his own sperm but they needed to use a donor egg and that person wasnât Jewish.
The kid is raised in an interfaith family (the mom is much more observant but still Reform, the dad isnât particularly religious but is proud of his ethnicity.)
The kid decides he wants to go to Hebrew school. He also wants to become a bar mitzvah.
Since the mom is Reform, is he Jewish or would he need to officially convert because the donor egg used wasnât Jewish?
The holes we dig ourselves into writing!
I'm gonna preface this by saying that I'm not an expert in Reform Jewish standards, but from what I understand, a child is considered Jewish if at least one parent is Jewish and if they are raised in a Jewish household with a strong sense of their Jewish identity.
The donor egg wasn't Jewish, but the child was raised Jewish. It would be a similar situation to adoption.
Here is an excerpt from a responsa by the CCAR (Central Conference of American Rabbis) regarding adoption:
"The first position holds that no formal conversion is required in the case of adoption, and it is not difficult to understand the theoretical basis upon which it rests. Adoption, after all, is simply another way of creating a family, and the ties which bind this family are equivalent to those that exist between parents and their biological children. The Rabbis teach that âone who raises an orphan in his home is considered as though he had begotten that child.â[9] And this Committee has declared that the adopted child âis absolutely and completely a member of the family, a full child of the parents,â[10] who are that childâs parents âin every respect.â[11] If so, then we might well conclude that the legal process of adoption transfers the Jewishness of the parents to the child, in the same way that the biological child of two Jewish parents automatically enjoys Jewish status.
We think, however, that the second position is the more persuasive one: adoption by a Jewish family does not confer Jewish status upon the child of Gentile parents, and a formal conversion is necessary. The legal process of adoption indeed creates a family. Still, that process is an act of the state, of the civil government in whose jurisdiction we happen to reside. To say that âadoption is conversionâ is to say that the secular magistrate[12] is empowered to confer Jewish status upon a child, and it is difficult in the extreme to imagine that any of our responsa and religious writings would suggest that we depart so radically from the historical standard of Jewishness. Simply put, we do not believe that the government of state, province or nation is entitled to decide âwho is a Jew.â[13] That determination is rather a Jewish concern, one which rests exclusively with the Jewish community. The way that the Jewish communityâincluding our ownâconfers Jewish status upon a person born of non-Jewish parents is through the process of giyur. Therefore, the child of Gentile parents who is adopted into a Jewish family requires a formal conversion to Judaism, a conversion process that is distinct from the adoption itself."
So, essentially, it's a debate, and it seems to be a case-by-case situation. The two positions are:
-The act of adoption and naming the child is considered enough of a conversion, and thus they are validly Jewish
-Conversion is still necessary
Another excerpt from CCAR responsa regarding a similar situation to yours:
"On the other hand, the Conference and this Committee have also issued statements that suggest the opposite position, namely that an adopted child requires conversion. A 1978 responsum writes that the adopted childâs naming ceremony, performed in the synagogue once the adoption process is completed, âwould be considered sufficient ritual conversionâ in most Reform synagogues[10]; that is to say, a ritual conversion is necessary, and the ceremony of naming would be a suitable rite for that purpose. In 1984 this Committee reiterated that the adopted child should be named in the synagogue, âwith a berit [i.e., circumcision] for a male, and if the family desires, tevilah, [ritual immersion].â The above are defined as âritual actsâ that constitute âthe conversion conducted at the time of infancy.â[11] Gates of Mitzvah (1979), the CCARâs guide to the Jewish life cycle, tells us that âan adopted child should be named in the synagogue and entered into the berit as soon as the initial legal procedures for adoption have been completed.â If the child is not an infant, âthe rabbis should be consulted as to the procedure for formal entry into the Jewish community.â[12] Here, too, a ritual of entry into the Jewish community â i.e., a conversion â follows the adoption. Our current Rabbiâs Manual (1988) recommends that all legal adoption procedures be completed âbefore finalizing any change of [the childâs] religious status,â[13] indicating once more that the legal adoption and the establishment of the childâs Jewishness are two separate processes. Finally, this Committee explicitly urged conversion for adopted children in a 1999 teshuvah.[14]"
And it comes to a similar conclusion, that there are two viewpoints:
-The act of integrating the baby into Jewish life through naming, circumcision, etc, is enough of a conversion
-Full conversion is still necessary.
So, it's very much not something everyone agrees on, and it varies from congregation to congregation and community to community.
Now, as for whether or not the child would be able to go to Hebrew School......many Hebrew Schools, especially non-Orthodox Hebrew Schools, are welcoming to any child of any Jewish background to be able to attend, whether or not they are considered Jewish by halakha. Obviously every Hebrew School is different, but I don't see how there would be a problem for your character to attend Hebrew School. After all, there are families in the process of conversion who are not yet Jewish who need somewhere to send their kids, too.
For the purpose of writing your story, I think you have a lot of flexibility with how you want the character's journey to go, considering that this topic is one that doesn't have a concrete answer yet.

Today, the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, headed by Cardinal VĂctor Manuel FernĂĄndez, issued a declaration that will long be remembered by LGBTQ people. Entitled âFiducia Supplicansâ (from the first two words in Latin, meaning, âSupplicating trustâ), the declaration opens the door, for the first time, for the official blessings of same-sex couples by ministers of the churchâsomething that has long been desired by LGBTQ Catholics and their families and friends.Â
The declaration also includes a larger meditation on blessings in the Catholic tradition and cautions that the blessings for same-sex couples and others in âirregularâ unions should be done in a way that does not confuse these blessings with sacramental marriage or suggest a liturgical rite. But even with those provisions, this is a major step forward for LGBTQ Catholics.Â
The declaration opens the door, for the first time, for the official blessings of same-sex couples by ministers of the church.
âIt is precisely in this context that one can understand the possibility of blessing couples in irregular situations and same-sex couples without officially validating their status or changing in any way the Churchâs perennial teaching on marriage,â wrote Cardinal FernĂĄndez in the document, approved by Pope Francis.Â
Why is this a major step? First, it is the first time that a Vatican document treats same-sex couples with such pastoral care. It marks a dramatic shift from the dicasteryâs (then congregationâs) responsum two years ago, which said that priests and deacons could under no circumstances bless same-sex couples because ïżœïżœïżœGod cannot and does not bless sin.â As an aside, a âdeclarationâ is more substantial and, therefore, authoritative than a responsum, which is usually responding to a more specific question (called a dubium) and is narrower in scope. (For some context, âDominus Iesus,â a landmark document on other Christian denominations and other religions, published in 2000, was also a declaration.)
There was widespread reaction to that responsum, as the new declaration notes in its opening. In particular, LGBTQ people and their friends and families felt that the focus on such relationships as sinful ignored or rejected their experience of loving, committed and self-sacrificing same-sex relationships. News reports also suggested Pope Francis was himself unhappy with that statement, and eventually the person responsible for its publication was removed from the C.D.F. So the Vaticanâs pastoral approach to same-sex couples (as well as other couples not sacramentally married) has clearly shifted in the last two years.
It is the first time that a Vatican document treats same-sex couples with such pastoral care.
The declaration is also in line with the letter that Pope Francis wrote to Cardinal FernĂĄndez when he was installed as the new prefect of the D.D.F., in which the pope encouraged him to support the âharmonious growthâ in theology and, quoting from âEvangelii Gaudium,â noted that the church itself âgrow[s] in her interpretation of the revealed word and in her understanding of truth.â Many observers saw that as a new way of understanding the role of the D.D.F., which in recent years had been more concerned with responding to errors.Â
Second, you may hear from some quarters that ânothing has changed.â It reminds me of my church history professor, John W. OâMalley, S.J., who said that when church teaching changes, the most common introduction is âAs the church has always taught⊠â
Here, Father OâMalleyâs insight is made manifest in a slightly different way. Some Catholics oppose any steps toward greater inclusion for LGBTQ people in the life of the church. We saw some of this during the Synod on Synodality, where I was a voting member, with significant pushback from certain quarters on even using the term âLGBTQ.â So, for some, this declaration (even though it specifies that the blessings must not in any way seem like a marriage rite) will be threatening, and the temptation will therefore be to say, âNothing has changed.âÂ
The change here is that these blessings are now officially sanctioned by the Vatican.
But a great deal has in fact changed. Before this document was issued, there was no permission for bishops, priests and deacons to bless couples in same-sex unions in any setting. This document establishes, with some limitations, that they can.
Of course, some may say that there are many restrictions (as noted above), while others will note that in some places (most notable in the German church) these blessings were already widespread. (One German bishop told me during the Synod that he himself blessed such unions outside his cathedral.) The change here is that these blessings are now officially sanctioned by the Vatican. Today, with some limitations, I can perform a public blessing of a same-sex couple. Yesterday, I could not.
Third, it is a major step because it continues Pope Francisâ continual outreach to LGBTQ people.
To take but one example, during the month of October, Pope Francis met with LGBTQ representatives three times. A few days before the Synod began, he met with me in a private audience at the Casa Santa Marta; halfway through the Synod, he met with Jeannine Gramick, S.L., along with her New Ways Ministry team; and finally, during a general audience toward the end of the month, he met with Marianne Duddy-Burke and other representatives from the Global Network of Rainbow Catholics (G.N.R.C.), an umbrella group for LGBTQ Catholic groups worldwide. (Speaking of umbrellas, on the day of that final meeting with G.N.R.C., an immense rainbow appeared over St. Peterâs Basilica.)
I welcome this new declaration and see it as a much-needed pastoral response to Catholic same-sex couples in loving, committed and self-sacrificing relationships.
Some LGBTQ people may be disappointed that this declaration doesnât go as far as they might hopeâthat is, allowing same-sex couples to be married sacramentally. Others, especially in countries (and dioceses) where the entire topic is off-limits, will think it goes too far. Both groups, however, can agree that this is a significant change.
As for me, I welcome this new declaration and see it as a much-needed pastoral response to Catholic same-sex couples in loving, committed and self-sacrificing relationships who desire Godâs presence and help. And as a priest I look forward to blessing same-sex couples, and sharing with them the graces that God desires for everyone, something Iâve waited years to do.

[Levita] knew full well that his behavior was unacceptable. Had he asked for rabbinic opinion, the responsum would have aroused notice and it would be known to posterity. He knew enough to realize, however, that no rabbi would or could sanction his behavior. That is why he never asked. We have here two strategies of modern (un)orthodox behavior: never ask for a rabbinic opinion if you know you will not get the answer you seek, and let your own conscience, rather than rabbinic opinion, guide your behavior.

LGBT activists are applauding Fiducia Supplicans as a great leap forward toward full marriage equality, but what is the Dicasteryâs actual position on gay marriage? What are they saying by Fiducia Supplicans? Are they now performing gay marriages or is it something else? And what does all this teach us about the Roman church as a whole and its claims to infallible unity?
