Spotlight Saturday

Good timezone, everyone! Tonight I am being exceptionally brave and I am turning the spotlight on myself. This… does not come naturally to me, like, at all. But I'm going to have to get better at it at some point, so… might as well ease into it, I guess?

My debut novel is trucking along at a truly alarming rate and while there's still a long way to go (it's a marathon, not a sprint; terrible metaphor, I loathe all running), I do have a little baby monthly newsletter which I would love for you to sign up for if you're interested in keeping up to date.

I do ask that you keep fandom chat to fandom platforms (aka, don't name-drop my AO3 pseud or fic titles in the newsletter comments!) as I want to keep paid writing separate from fandom activities -- and, perhaps more importantly, do not want, like, my mum to find me here or anything. We're not THAT close.

beastober day 25: sleep

little bit of writing under cut ^_^

It had been… two and a half months, maybe, since Oak and Echidna had lost their first life. 

It was Echidna’s fault, because of course it was, because wasn’t that what she said when they had first met, that he was designed to destroy herself. And now that destruction included Oak. 

But then, miraculously, she was still here. Three weeks after their death, or something around that, they had started sleeping in the same bed. Oak’s, on the left side of the room. It felt selfish, almost. Did she really deserve this? Comfort, of all things?

Regardless, here she was. In a bed, in a house, in a valley, in a big wide world full of either people who wanted to kill him, or strangers. And Oak.

Oak was asleep, or at least Echidna assumed. 

Echidna leaned into Oak, nestling her horns under his head. This is fine, right? The constant worrying was probably detrimental to the whole “falling asleep” thing. Echidna decided she didn’t care. 

A branch cracked somewhere above ground. Echidna flinched.

A distant magpie let out a call, warning of a predator. Echidna flinched.

Calm down. Just calm down. It’s not that hard. 

Echidna took a deep breath. That’s probably a thing people do when they’re worried. 

It wasn’t fair, really. That you could have all this, while knowing you have to lose it. While knowing you don’t even deserve it. While knowing there is no world in which she stays after the fact. 

Oak leaned somehow further into Echidna, snoring a little with the movement. Echidna didn’t flinch.

Echidna fell asleep, eventually. Although the only reason he knew was because he woke up. Oak was gone by then, he was an early riser. There was an invariable moment of panic. But Oak was always in the field, with the sheep, cutting down trees, never far. At least there was that.

hey everyone! i'm afraid i have to give you guys some not so good news.

i started working part time again recently, and that is currently making my anxiety levels skyrocket... which is unfortunately a state in which i cannot write, no matter how much i try. chapter 4 and 5 of aod will get released as stated on the masterlist, and i'm also planning on posting that drabble event i announced a while back starting from the beginning of june - so however many drabbles i have written for it then will get released (it's 8 drabbles atm, and i really can't guarantee that i'll manage to add more with how things are looking...). so it's expected that i'll go on smth like a semi-hiatus soon, unless (we hope) my current state changes for the better!

i hope you understand, and i also hope that i'll be as okay as i can be soon, so i can get back to writing!!
