On animal companions in the Dekarios family:

The spiritual guardian of the Dekarios clan, Fang, the black wolf familiar of Gabriel Dekarios (and sometimes spiritual conduit for Gabriel to communicate with his wife or his sons). Fang usually roams freely about Faerun, but will be summoned to the family in times of distress by his pact with Gabriel, and his love for the family. Was greatly affected by Gabriel's passing and took to free roaming life as a normal wolf to work through his grief.

Grymm, the black griffin familiar to Garrett. He was summoned accidentally from his nest by Garrett when he was six years old, and immediately bonded with the child much to his parents' dismay. Eventually they got over it, finding that the creature was more help than hinderance, but the household was rapidly becoming far too crowded with two children and two familiars, plus parents. Grymm does not always travel with Garrett, but he does prefer to check in from time to time, and can be summoned or summon himself to the wizard's side in battle or distress. Very close bond to his wizard. Sees the younger two brothers as his little clutch of eggs, very paternal toward them.

Hawthorne, the female raven companion to Gavin. Inseperable. Never leaves her ranger's side, and is well known for assisting him in tracking quarry on bounty hunting jobs. Will draw blood if anyone looks at her human sideways. Gavin found her egg in an abandoned nest when he was ten and hatched her himself. She has supernaturally long life thanks to ranger/wild magic, and intends on outliving each Dekarios she can thank you very much. Nobody will pass before her if she can help it. Though Gavin is her person, she loves each Dekarios dearly and will help them or respond to a summons when asked.

Obviously Tara has a mention here. Sweet beloved Tara. I don't think I need to give any background on her, but she deserves a spot on this list of venerated creatures. Likely she has a special bond with Fang especially.

thinkin thoughts just like. garret thoughts under the cut

garrett kind of being aimless for a bit after gale cuts himself off

begs for answers, asks every one of his current and former mentors or teachers for help

even asks elminster the useless old fuck

nobody can tell him anything about his brother, nobody seems to care

all those doors slamming in his face and hes just. thinking about the kid he fuckin raised like

eventually he stops practicing magic altogether and abandons mystra, abandons the weave, abandons the memories of their dad who inspired him to pursue his talent for the weave anyways

hiding in the underdark, becoming part of the society of brilliance, being mocked merciliessly by all the scholarly lot he used to run with in wizard circles who look down on the society

shuffling aimlessly around in the dark cataloguing mushrooms with blurg, not so secretly holding onto a death wish and hoping something down there will just eat him already, stop the fucking pain, make his damn brain quiet down

but he loves learning from blurg and omeluum, theyre kind to him, they indulge him in his brooding and his moping, even ask questions to him about his family

he really truly learns to like his work for the society

but it's a constant waste of a bloodline full of talent and marked by mystra

and then one day, he finally goes topside to visit his ma again and see how she's doing (only because gavin reminded him not so gently that shes already lost one son and cant afford to effectively lose another one) and gets kidnapped from the city while he's visiting the society headquarters, tadpoled by a mind flayer and then dropped on his head and like

gale is there. and his entire fucking world comes to a complete fucking hault because gale is alive. and then it shatters again once he finds out what his brother is hiding from him. what he's been up to.

i have so many thoughts and feelings about this.
