violent thing - a playlist about falling in lust despite your better judgment and falling in love despite all common sense
push up to my body, sink your teeth into my flesh // say you're gonna pick me up, never gonna put me down// made out on the floor, you can blame it on the jack // i feel the blood go rushing miles from my head, so i hope you can forgive the way i'm acting // fucked me over, now you're all i'm thinking of // outside doesn't matter to us, we'll go somewhere quiet and far away // closer than your clothes were, now they're on the floor // i'm losing track cause baby we don't stop, is it your turn or my turn to be on top? // there's always been a disconnect, running from my heart to my head // i'll close every door, every door, if it means i can keep on holding you now // my friends were right, i've been trying to say it out loud, now the secret's out and i will never shut my mouth about it // in my civilization you're the king and the queen, i'm prayin' at your altar if you know what i mean // pay my penance any way i can, gotta let me love you right // even though it hurts, i just wanna be a criminal with you, a criminal with you, we're criminals

2020 Eurovision song review
It's that time of the year again, Eurovision is getting rolling and I'm about to watch the first batch of Eurovision contributions and leave reviews for them.
Latvia: Still Breathing - Samanta Tina: Simultaneously the most and the least Eurovision Song I've ever heard. In any way I don't think Eurovision as an institution is ready for rap (or whatever that was). Also: Epilepsy warning. 7 points
Croatia: Divlji Vjetre - Damir Kedzo: Astonishingly average. I'm a little torn here, non-English songs are of course always good, but at the same time it's the same melodramatic pop song we get like 10 of every year. Prediction: this is gonna score average but never top scores except from neighbours. 5 points. A little boring.
Estonia: What love is - Uku Suviste: Very generic. I always expect feral Energy from Estonia and it always disappoints. 5 points
Lithuania: On Fire - The Roop: Surprisingly good. I liked it. Partially bc weird mirror action and the weirdest dance moves I've ever seen. 10 points.
UK: My last breath - James Newman: Without listening to anything please take a moment to acknowledge how dramatic that title is. Very mediocre but then what did I expect from the UK. I still think you people should know that there's good music that isn't Ed Sheeran. Also is that Wimhoff? 7 points
France: The best in me - Tom Leeb: I was a bit shocked when I saw the title bc the day France contributes an English song to Eurovision is the day I die. That being said: boring, also: we get it, the Eiffel tower is in France. It's been there for more than a century. 3 points, you can do better.
Poland: Empires - Alicja Szemplińska: Poland never fails to deliver. This song does not fuck around. That font in the background gave me cancer though. 10 points, best one so far.
Ukraine: Solovey - Go_A: Fuck, that's amazing. Listen ... I'm a simple woman. That particular style of singing is just so amazing, I can't. Just ... Everything about this is just so good! 12 points
Spain: Universo - Blas Cantó: Very Spanish, not as much of a wow factor as the two before. Love the aesthetics of the video though. 8 points.
Belgium: Release Me - Hooverphonic: Love how dramatic it is. Also: Orchestra in Eurovision. 8 points
Norway: Attention - Ulrikke: Meh. Angsty ballade. 5 points
Australia: Don't Break Me - Montaigne: It's alright. Again: at this point the bar is very high. It's very Australia, by which I mean "Good enough to make top 5, not good enough to win". 8 points
Belarus: Da Vidna - VAL: I like it. But wtf is up with those hands also, pleas no PDA on MY Eurovision stage. 8 points
Germany: Violent Thing - Ben Dolic: Very horny teenager club song vibes. It's ok I guess, we've had WAY WORSE contributions. 7 points
Overall I think I have two favourites. But there have definitely been better years, that being said, there have also been worse years. I'll keep adding as more songs come out

Eurovision 2020 Song Review: “Violent Thing” by Ben Dolic (Germany)
Don’t tell your mama, but make sure she doesn’t hear about it from the nosy neighbours
youtube
Germany last won the contest 10 years ago. Would this bring them back the title? Can’t say for sure but it’s definitely better than “Sister”.
And here we have the 3rd Symphonix entry for 2020. While the entries for Malta and Bulgaria are hits for me (”All Of My Love” and “Tears Getting Sober” respectively), “Violent Thing” is a miss. While the tune alone is a fun dance-a-long, I just can’t get into it. I do have a bit of a bias towards preferred genres (mainly rock), so that may factor into it. The other is how to interpret the song.
On one hand, the song come off as creepy. I don’t mean it in the horror movie sense, but the song being sung by someone who is turned on by this attractive person, most likely female from a male singer’s perspective.
Got that thing that I can't deny Killing me soft with the big brown eyes Such a violent thing, would you let me know Knockin' me down like a domino
and that he’s hoping they’ll do something dirty
Oh don't tell your mama Whatchu' doin' tonight Twenty-four hours ago you got that look in your eyes Don't need your number Cus I know you'll be there Happen all night and the beat don't lie we're crystal clear
“Don’t need your number because I know you’ll be there?” How certain are you that the girl you’re tailing will be at the club or whatever this meeting place at the same time same day of the week? You stalking her?
Or maybe from the singer’s perspective it was love at first sight and he wants to woo her. It may not be sex, but it could be something the girl’s mother doesn’t approve such as staying out past midnight (even if said girl is an adult) or hanging out with the opposite sex (even if said girl is an adult). Maybe the singer is a modern-day Romeo chasing a Juliet and Juliet’s mom would freak out if she found out her daughter was with someone of the Montagues.
Considering how parts of this song are upbeat and happy, it seems that when the singer is with this love interest whether in thought or physically, he is all sorts of giddy:
Cus if I got you with me tonight Feeling like I'm feeling tonight
Anyway, as upbeat as the song is, once you overthink about it, the lyrics tend to come off as some very forward person trying to hunt down this wild other person.
