Thinking about how similar Friede and Liko's brands of growing strong are (ie, being strong enough to protect the people they love).
#tbh even cap falls under this a bit because him becoming that strong was just a byproduct of teaching himself how to fly (see hz018)#and he had no interest in battling wild pkmn in that ep either. he just wanted to see the sun#and now he is using that strength to protect his crew (but it initially wasn't his main goal)#and friede and liko are very similar in that regard imo#liko enjoys fun battles but she keeps bringing up her desire to help protect others as her main source of motivation etc#friede enjoys battling too and it's mostly only amethio who ignites the rivalry feelings in him#(which is why their dynamics is important for him etc but that's another meta entirely)#all of this as opposed to roy and amethio's brands of being strong#which i think are more along the lines of 'i wanna defeat someone in particular' (the competitive side)#(something i don't really feel that much from friede tbh. he doesn't approach things the same way imo)#anyway i really like how horizons depicts characters having different reasons for growing stronger and they're all valued in the narrative#liko#friede#character notes
