Reading the final battle I finally understood the real reason CP caused Morzan to die pre-inheritance. Not because he would have hunted Eragon or Murtagh, not because he would have been an added force to the Empire, but because when the group meet Galbatorix, Eragon reveals that Brom is actually his father, and therefore that Selena cheated on Morzan with his greatest enemy.

I mean, pretty awkward, right?
