if i'm reading this correctly, the reason LAMs got downgraded to oblivion is the same reason that we don't hear about a lot of cool acrobatic maneuvers with 'Mechs anymore

one of FASA's designers that came in late, a former army tank crewman, didn't care for the more animesque aspects of BT, which, combined with the Harmony Gold suit round one resulting in all LAM designs being Unseen, pretty much killed a bunch of really cool concepts that did fit the universe pretty well, contrary to popular belief

#battletech #like i really don't understand the whole 'LAMs don't fit the setting'#IRL a fair bit of military R&D is put behind the jack of all trades war machine #and occasionally we get it #like look at the A-10. can slap just about anything on that chassis and it'll still be airworthy for almost any mission.#(and yet there's constant attempts to phase it out because it's 'old' and 'ugly')#(yeah this does sound a lot like i'm admiring the bright sword for its sharpness but A we're talking about battletech anyway and #B we have to admit that the sharp bright sword IS pretty cool and so did tolkien)#(point of interest: oh my god they've finally done it they're retiring the thunderbolt and they don't even have a replacement)
