CHARACTER PROFILE:
[At least] 3 Headcanons for your character:
Cass was born Cody Neal Pillsbury Schuester. The Nea is after Neal Schon from Will’s favorite band Journey.
From a young age, Cass struggled with gender identity but wouldn’t say it was a defining part of their childhood, it often made them feel like a recluse because they could not connect with binary boys in class but, with their mother being who she was, they attended a support group for children and young people who were gender nonconforming.
At first, they resisted, not wanting to attend the group because they thought it was “…silly because only people like mama need therapy.“ They soon understood it was to help them understand what they were feeling and give them the tools and language to express it. The group ended up being a very positive experience and they were able to make friends with people who understood them like no other. They also supported them in choosing the name “Cass”.
As a child, Cass always had a lot of energy though they didn’t know how to direct it. Emma and Will tried getting them into acting classes, dance lessons, and show choir but Cass always managed to get in trouble; saying things like how lame it was because it was what their parents did, or because Schuy and the others didn’t like to do it. Next, they tried putting them in sports but nothing seemed to stick, instead, they’d often escape practice and be found climbing trees, much to Emma’s disgust as they would trail mud and leaves back into the house quite frequently.
Cass frequently would tag along behind their older siblings though they weren’t the best at art so they didn’t always connect well with them; getting bored quickly. They did enjoy baking though if only to eat the treats at the end. In their obsession with constantly wanting to be around the others, Cass begged for ice skating lessons after Schuy and Austin or Ariel had them to prepare for an upcoming classmates’ birthday party at the local rink (Will and Emma did not want their children to be the only ones unable to at least stay upright on the ice for a full afternoon). Eventually, Will and Emma gave in and sent them to lessons. Cass had taken to the ice like a fish to water and the rest was history.
On the ice, Cass is jovial, passionate, and artistic but off ice they are much more reserved, compassionate, and conscientious.
Turning 18 meant they were finally able to compete in the senior Grand Prix circuit but their parents wanted them to focus on finishing High School. The Senior circuit meant more than just traveling around the country, it meant being on the world stage.
Cass thought their parents would be excited for them to continue their dreams of being a medal-winning pro skater but they frowned at the idea of them trying to complete school on the road in between training and competing. Their distaste was so strong Cass agreed to only compete in national-level events and finish High School on campus at home in Colorado.
By the time graduation rolled around Cass felt underprepared for the senior competitive circuit so when they were offered an opportunity to train at Broadmoor Skating Club (a world-famous elite figure skating club) by their coach they jumped at the chance to take part.
Cass took a year off between High School and College to complete the year-long program at Broadmoor. Turning 18 and transferring to Broadmoor was when Cass found the confidence to legally changed their name.
The skating world is surprisingly closeted and binary so they are stuck in the men’s competition and is always addressed by their “legal” gender. Sometimes it hits Cass hard and is very painful but, most days, their mind is entirely on the skating so it doesn’t manage to penetrate the tough shell they have developed. Thankfully now that Cass is their legal name the skating community is forced to recognize it which helps.
Will and Emma were pushing Cass to continue into post-secondary education after their year at Broadmore so they decided to placate them by applying to colleges where there were professional level skating clubs that they were interested in. Eventually, after talking to skating clubs, coaches and choreographers they chose Shaker Figure Skating Club and Joie University.
Cass didn’t know what to study when they arrived at Joie, they knew they wanted to study ASL because there is a very big gap in support services in ice sports so they had considered a future in inclusive coaching or advocacy for minorities in ice sports.
STUDENT CENSUS SURVEY:
(Please answer the following questions IN CHARACTER. Responses can be as long or short as you see fit!)
What made you want to attend Joie University? Joie is located near a skating club that has produced Olympic level figure skaters and that was one of the biggest deciding factors for me in choosing a college.
What are at least 3 positive or neutral and at least 3 negative traits that you believe you possess? I like to think I am compassionate and empathetic, sincere, and respectful, an idealist, an individualist, a nemophilist, and indecisive but can be stubborn once committed.
Which of your traits do you value most? I would have to say my individuality. It’s such a powerful thing that I used to be so scared of because being different was terrifying, but now I really value it because it’s my niche on the ice; my style in my programs is so different to many skaters and I feel a sense of pride in that. The ice was the first place I felt pride in myself and now finally that’s beginning to spread to the rest of my life, for the first time I’m learning to be happy with who I am.
How can that trait benefit the University (or its student body) as a whole? Gosh, I couldn’t imagine how I’d affect the whole university but I suppose I could support others in being themselves and striving for their dreams.
What do you hope to gain from your experience at JU? People say normal is overrated but when you stand out for reasons beyond your control you crave a little normality. I thrive on the ice, but I hope Joie will teach me how to thrive on solid ground too.
What is a quote or song lyric that describes you?
No matter where you are in the world the rink is home -Jason Brown

GET TO KNOW ME MEME!!!
——— 𝐁𝐀𝐒𝐈𝐂𝐒 !
name! greg pronouns! he/him zodiac sign! cancer taken or single! single
——— 𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐄𝐄 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐒 !
1! over the course of my i have learned ( & i mean actually learned aka took lessons, was self taught, or participated in a band ) how to play about 10 instruments. currently i play guitar, ukulele, some bass guitar & some piano. the other instruments were trombone, baritone, flute, both tenor & soprano steelpan, & basic trumpet. i learned a few things on the banjo & the bassoon but i didn’t dedicate any real time to those so i wouldn’t say i really know how to play it. i also played recorder in school but everyone does that so i don’t really count that either. 2! i’m jewish but was raised learning both judaism & christianity since my mum is christian & my dad is jewish. i grew up going to both church, synagogue as well as both hebrew school & sunday school so i guess you could say i’m.... cultured. 3! i’m a stupidly big nerd for languages. currently fluent in english & french with some basic knowledge of korean & hebrew. in an ideal world i’d be fluent in all four, as well as ASL & greek. fun additional fact is that i’m actually greek with the passport & everything which is why i’d love to learn the language.
——— 𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 !
platforms used! at the moment i only really use tumblr but i do the odd thing on discord & i started out writing on facebook before i moved to this hellsite.

female or male! male for sure. just a comfort thing because i understand boys better than girls lmao big surprise there. least favorite face(s)! oof. i’m really particular about harry potter fcs so there are a few i either just tolerate or simply can’t stand. other than that i’m pretty easy breezy covergirl about these things. oh & as a general rule i don’t like jason mamoa but it’s not like it’s a deal breaker. multi or single! i started out with a single but in the end i think multi is just easiest for me to manage, both in regards to muse & my sanity. i do, however, also have a single muse blog for salem the cat over at @salemsaberhxgen fluff / angst / smut! angst used to be all i could write but now i think i mostly just write meaningful fluff? like yeah it can be fluffy but it’s still furthering a plot or deepening a relationship or further developing my muses. that being said i’m getting back into the swing of angst so there will definitely be more of that popping up. smut is kinda spotty. if it comes up naturally, sure, but i’m not really going out looking for it. plot / memes! i love memes but plotting is my bread & butter. plotting can really take things to the next level & completely change a relationship or story from a single ooc conversation. it’s really cool. that being said memes are fantastic, both for helping develop little surface level details that you can apply later, or simply a great way to get the ball rolling for new interactions or if you’re just feeling stuck with what you’ve got going on.

Mun: Hey! Since I’ve been busy packing I couldn’t really get around to a lot of art today, but I thought I’d post some random mun-facts about this AU!
It technically all started cause of my younger sibling’s side comment over why they liked Heatmark. “It’s like an English teacher is dating a Gym teacher”. Literally everything else in this AU just spawned from this single comment, I never expected it to have gotten so complex. I love it though, cause it really lets me play around with these interesting characters.
Despite originally starting off their designs with their teacher outfits, I hardly draw them in those clothes anymore (the exception being Heatseeker with his tank top). I can’t explain it, but drawing them in their casual clothes became the norm after a while.
The results of the shipping poll so far are GENUINELY surprising for me. Mostly for the numbers going towards my more rare-pair ships (Shadowmaster in particular, like, wow) I’m happy this AU can help you guys!
There’s a number of character choices I can’t really explain. At one point in describing the Thermitrap relationship I legitimately said “I don’t know why they’re like this but they are”. These characters are out of my hand.
In terms of the Stunticons, my favorite design I made was Dragstrip’s but my favorite one to draw is Wildbreak’s. I guess it makes sense in the long run; both characters are ones I really analyzed a lot from the series (even if I do make them a smidge ooc;;; ).
I’ve been learning a lot from this blog! It’s inspired me to research into a lot of things so I can better understand how write these types of characters. I’m also very happy I’m starting to learn a bit of ASL from it too; not an awful lot mind you, I would probably need proper lessons rather than just watching youtube videos of how to do basic signing.
That’s all for now; might tell more in the future if it interests people :’D

OOC WEEK: Day Two
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN
(I'm so excited for this one, it's so rare for me to be able to tell gringos about my culture and my country ok, I'm sorry in advance for the amount of videos and links I'm gonna throw here.)
What country are you from?
The big political mess that is Brazil. Born and raised! I'm originally from Fortaleza, in the northeast, one of the poorest regions in the country, known for: its amazing beaches, sex tourism for wealthy gross foreigners and the severe droughts during most of the year. I moved to Brasília, the capital, when I was seven. It's a planned city known for having a desert/savannah climate, lots of politicians and modern architecture (by Oscar Niyemeyer). Now I live in São Paulo, the country's biggest urban center. Who knows where I might go next?
What is your first language? Do you speak any other languages?
My first language is Portuguese. I also speak English (well, obviously) and some Spanish.
What language would you like to learn?
SO MANY. Ok, first maybe German or Russian, but I'd also like to learn French at some point. I've been practicing ASL online, as well as LIBRAS (Brazilian sign language), but it may take me a while.
What’s one movie from your country that you like (or recommend others see)?
This is a hard question, because there are so many that I'd like people to watch, but I can't even find subtitled trailers for most of them on youtube, so bear with me. The most well-known Brazilian movie may be CITY OF GOD. It's gotten a few Oscars and it was a hit on Cannes back in 2002. It's such a gritty, violent reflex of life in the slums of Rio. Most of the actors weren't even properly trained actors, they were real people from the community in which the movie is set. It makes the film even more authentic. Those people are acting out their real lives on screen.
Another big favorite is the drama/dark comedy STOMACH - A GASTRONOMIC STORY. It tells the twisted tale of an amazing cook, with a clever twist - he's in prison. It's funny and dark, with an unexpected ending.
If you're bored and you have access to Netflix, you might want to check out 3%, the new Brazilian dystopian sci-fi series that offers an interesting latin american take on a genre that's been predominantly american for ages.
I can literally spend all day making movie lists to suggest, someone stop me.
Pick a song from your country (or in your language) and talk about why you like it
Again, there's so many! But these are some of my favorites:
PANIS ET CIRCENCES by OS MUTANTES, a post-modern critique of the apathy of the bourgeoisie:
youtube
CONSTRUÇÃO (Construction) by CHICO BUARQUE, a neo-concrete poem about the ordinary tragedy in the life of a common construction worker who dies on the job, and a social critique about the hardship of the working class:
youtube
And the more recent AMOR MARGINAL by JOHNNY HOOKER, literally translated to "Delinquent Love", a song about love affairs on the margins of society.
youtube
Pick a classic song from your country - aka one that everyone knows, one that’s representative of your country, etc
The most well known Brazilian song is probably GAROTA DE IPANEMA (Girl From Ipanema) BY TOM JOBIM AND VINÍCIUS DE MORAES. A classic Bossa Nova song so iconic that Frank Sinatra himself has recorded a cover:
youtube
The song that represents my northeastern roots and the place I'm proud to call home, however, is ASA BRANCA (White Wing - it's a type of bird) by LUIS GONZAGA. It's about the long droughts, the plight of the field workers that had to leave the countryside for better opportunities as their cattle and the harvest died, and the hope that the first rain would bring:
youtube
What’s a book from your country (or in your language) that you’d recommend?
The first book that comes to mind, and the most inherently brazilian piece of literature for me, is GRANDE SERTÃO VEREDAS, known in english as THE DEVIL TO PAY IN THE BACKLANDS, by GUIMARÃES ROSA. It's widely considered one of the most important south american books of all times, though it's no easy read.
check it out HERE.
It tells the story of Riobaldo, a mercenary in the dawn of the 20th century that, upon reaching old age, decides to tell his story. It's got everything. Outlaws, war, death, a deal with the devil, homoerotic subtext, you name it.
What’s your favourite childhood story from your country or culture?
Since we're all about werewolves here, I'm going to tell y'all the werewolf story every Brazilian child was told. Unlike the european tradition, in Brazil, a werewolf (we call it Lobisomem) is believed to be the seventh son after six girls. Most stories say they transform on Fridays at midnight on a crossroad, and they can only turn back if they return to that same crossroad at dawn. Some stories say they must cross seven cemeteries before the day breaks to be able to return to human form. They're bloodthirsty and they're said to be specially fond of eating unbaptized babies, which prompted people to baptize their kids as fast as they could.
If you kill a werewolf when they're transformed, they'll return to human form, so you'll end up with no proof that the man you just killed was a Lobisomem. But if you know who he is, and say his name before he expires, he'll stay in wolf form.
Talk about a tradition from your country or culture that you love celebrating:
Definitely the Festa de São João (Feast of Saint John). It's celebrated on June (usually around the 24th, but it's such a big deal that it happens all over the month), and it's similar to a county fair. There's folk music, square dances, games, a big bonfire and lots of delicious food - mostly corn based. So much corn. People dress up, it's great. It looks like this:
Fave food from your country/culture:
THIS IS TOO HARD. But I'll go with FEIJOADA. It's basically this big ass stew of black beans and pork (usually ribs, bacon, ears, tongue, feet, tail - whatever you wanna throw in), sausage and bay leaves. We eat it with rice, kale with butter and orange slices. It's the best thing ever, I promise.
Best season of the year in your country?
To be honest our seasons here are like hot, hotter, hot as fuck and hellfire. We don't get four defined seasons in tropical countries. I like winter because it's usually less hot. Usually.
What’s one thing that you wish you could change about your country? Why?
Politics. I'm sorry guys, I'm gonna get super political here for a moment: our political system is bred and based on corruption since our colony days, we just suffered a coup d'etat, and we're drowning in economical neoliberalism, which is crushing our already overworked, underfed working force. We're still licking our wounds from 30 years of a bloody military dictatorship. We live to work while our politicians live in luxury, and a brutal military police exterminates people in the slums with no accountability. We're the number one in LGBTQ murders IN THE WORLD, which makes me feel for my safety constantly. We're a dystopian future already.
Down with capitalism, I'm all for the revolution.
What’s one thing that you’re proud of about your country?
You see, I struggle with this, because I'm deeply involved with politics and sometimes I just feel hopeless about it all. But if anything, I'm proud of my people's artistic sensibility. From oppression, we've created amazing art, we've fought censorship and torture and exile and we still had the heart to create. That's no easy feat.
Name a country you’d like to visit.
ALL OF THEM. But uh, Ukraine.
Top three cities you’d like to visit:
Chernobyl, Paris, Koshu.
What’s the best place in your country that you’ve ever visited?
Ouro Preto! A historical city in Minas Gerais, full of old buildings, old mines that you can visit, pretty rocks and hills. There are almost no cars on the streets, and the streets are all made of cobblestone, and it's like it has stopped in time. It's amazing.
Have you ever been abroad (out of your country)? If so, where did you go?
Nope. I have no money. Help.
What are some myths or stereotypes about your country or culture that are either true or are false?
Well, we're known for three things: soccer, carnival and beaches. We are totally crazy about soccer, I won't deny it. Carnaval is also a huge deal. Seriously, it's said the year doesn't start until after Carnaval, because January is all about the prepping for the extended holiday/big fucking parties. Beaches are also amazing. Those are all true.
We don't, however, live in the jungle. I promise. Don't believe the Simpsons, we don't have monkeys roaming the city either. And no, J.K. Rowling, we don't mysterious golden ruins in the middle of the rainforest, try Ecuador, maybe. And we're not all about sex. Brazilian women are often horribly over sexualized by foreigners.
And that's your overly-long rant about Brazil!
De nada!
#ooc week#day two#THIS IS SO FUCKING LONG I AM SO SORRY#I GOT CARRIED AWAY#i never get to talk about brazil ever#but well there you have it i guess

OOC DAY 2
What country are you from?
I am from the good ol’ US of A. I was born in Hawaii (that little island to the west of us) because my father was in the U.S Navy, and then we moved to California when I was 2 years old. I lived in Southern California (down by San Diego) for most of my life and then in 2011 I moved to this tiny town in the middle of the Mojave Desert (near Death Valley) in the Eastern part of California. I now attend University in Santa Cruz, which in the Central Coastal area of California, up by San Francisco.
What is your first language? Do you speak any other languages?
I speak English and I don’t really speak any other languages. I took one Latin class in high school and one American Sign Language class in college. Also Duolingo says I’m like 3% fluent in German.
What language would you like to learn?
Honestly I really just want to take more ASL (American Sign Language) classes. I think the language and its history are super interesting and I like that I don’t have to speak because I don’t really like speaking to people in class,
What’s one movie from your country that you like (or recommend others see)?
We have Hollywood so like most movies are from here?? Uhm, one of the more iconic movies that I think people should watch is Singin’ in the Rain. I didn’t see it until about 2/3 years ago, and I got to see it as part of an old movie event in an old-style theatre and it was really cool and it added to the whole effect of the movie.
Also My Fair Lady, like it’s such a good movie and I know it takes place in England but it’s technically an American movie and Audrey Hepburn is such a good actress in it. I know some people don’t think so but damn, I definitely had a crush on her as a small child.
Pick a song from your country (or in your language) and talk about why you like it.
I feel like most songs are from the US. I like can’t think of any music that really stand out to me. My favourite song right now is Capsize by Frenship and Emily Warren I just like the song though. Also one of my new favourite bands is a band called MUNA, they have like 5 songs released now and all of them are fire. I was going to see them in Oakland last year but then I didn’t and they are playing again in San Francisco and I really want to see them but none of my friends want to go with me and SF is like 1 1/2 hours away and it’s a big city and cities scare me so I don’t think I could go alone.
Pick a classic song from your country - aka one that everyone knows, one that’s representative of your country, etc.
I’m going to go also with state and pick the song Hotel California by Eagles. I’m not sure how popular this song is in the rest of the country, or even other parts of California, but out in the desert every radio station plays this song at least once a week. And I think it’s because of the line “on a dark desert highway” because like they play it at night usually and I’m sure someone thinks it’s funny. I did at first but now that song haunts my dreams.
What’s a book from your country (or in your language) that you’d recommend?
Kate Chopin’s The Awakening is probably one of my favourite books. It’s not really exciting, it’s just a general fiction book, but it’s a really good Feminist book. Like I don’t really know how to describe my love for this book, but basically this woman realizes that she really doesn’t want to do all of the things that society tells her that she should do and I love it.
What’s your favourite childhood story from your country or culture?
I don’t know if I have any stories that are like specifically America? As a California I used to go to the beach in the winter a lot and actually swim, but that’s more of a fun fact I guess.
There was one time, it wasn’t that long ago because I was living in the desert, I was out late at night with my dad because my horse was making a lot of noise. So we went to go check on her and on the other side of the fence was just this other horse chilling there and talking to my horse. We brought it inside and then my dad had to work so I was home alone when the person who owned the horse came to get it. But it was weird because the guy just opened up our gate and walked in and wasn’t really talking to me. But then come to find out it wasn’t his horse and he had just been working on something and the horse got out I guess because later my Dad became friends with the lady who owned the horse and she said that her horse had never gotten out but there is only one horse with that colouring in the area so either my Dad and I hallucinated it all or the lady doesn’t know that her horse got out. I think this story more illustrates the weird/ridiculousness of the desert more than anything else
Talk about a tradition from your country or culture that you love celebrating.
A lot of American culture is just based on food lol. I’m a fan of Fourth of July, not because I’m patriotic, but like I love hanging out at the beach and grilling food which is what I do for Fourth of July (if I celebrate it, the past few years I have been doing other things on the 4th).
Also like I’m really into Halloween. I’m not sure if it’s big in other countries or what, but with our capitalist based society, Halloween merchandise startes getting sold in like early September so there’s cool Halloween decorations around in time for my birthday and I love it.
Fave food from your country/culture:
Honestly a lot of American foods are just fast foods lol. But in California we have In N Out, which I’m sure everyone talks about and honestly the fries are overrated but like their burgers are fantastic. There’s a secret menu and you can get “animal style” fries and burgers which is basically dumping a disgusting amount of thousand island based sauce and grilled onions on it and it’s beautiful.
Best season of the year in your country?
California doesn’t really have seasons. I like Fall because it starts to cool down (SUMMER IN THE DESERT IS DEATH 0/10 would not recommend).
What’s one thing that you wish you could change about your country? Why?
Honestly there is a lot and I’m not sure we have time to listen to the things that I would change about this country so I’m just going to save y’all the time and not answer it.
What’s one thing that you’re proud of about your country?
That a bunch of farmers with hunting riffles managed to win our independence against a bunch of actually trained British soldiers. But then everything sort of when down hill after that.
Name a country you’d like to visit.
Literally any other country. I really want to travel. I’d really like to go to Greece or Macedonia, or Italy, or Spain, or honestly anywhere with a history and old architecture that I can admire and appreciate.
Top three cities you’d like to visit:
Athens, Rome, Madrid, Shanghai, St. Petersberg, Dubai, honestly I’m just starting to list places because I want to go everywhere
What’s the best place in your country that you’ve ever visited?
I like visiting National Parks. I’ve seen the Sequoias and really liked that. We got to ride horses around through the park once and I thought it was really magical actually. I felt like I was in some sort of high-fantasy adventure story because of the giant trees surrounding us.
Have you ever been abroad (out of your country)? If so, where did you go?
I have been to Mexico a few times. The most memorable time, my mom had to do some sort of something when she was in college and went to go see a bull fight in Mexicali. It was sort of traumatic because no one told me that they kill the bulls at the end, but it was really cool to experience such a large cultural event in another country.
What are some myths or stereotypes about your country or culture that are either true or are false?
Honestly all of the stereotypes are probably true. Idk

Things I like to know about rp partners!!
FILL IN:
i like to be called: Cecil. At least here. It’s different in my real life because I’m not out in any capacity, and have a lot of issues feeling like I’m valid in general. So I go by my legal name IRL. But online at least call me Cecil.
my favorite color is: Lavender
gender: That’s a great question. If anyone figures it out, let me know. Cause I’d fucking love to have the answer to that. Genderqueer???? I THINK???? I literally can’t tell you because I don’t know. I question myself every other day and have a crisis about my validity over everything.
one thing you should know about me: I,,, have issues with certain types of conversations. And the types of conversations I have issues with are strange and make no sense. Because they’re usually not directly negative. Like you can share with me the darkest shit and I am fine after. At least if I’m feeling stable beforehand. But certain little details that are less of an issue have me spiraling because the little details have me remembering my anxiety more than directly awful shit ever does. But I’m not going to share exactly what those types of conversations are because it’s my responsibility to get over that bullshit, and I’m not going to make people accommodate it. Ever.
one thing you should know about my muse: He is very private. But he doesn’t act like he is. His type of private is not mysterious and brooding. It’s to give you information about himself. But it’s useless information. It’s smiles and jokes to make you think he’s doing well. And no one asks questions. And that’s how he likes it. But like. He’s not gonna tell you his life story. But he will make you think you know him when you, in fact, do not know him at all.
first language: English
second language: I wish I had a second language. I wanna learn ASL fluently one day. Like I really wanna learn it. But right now I’ve got horrible ADHD which causes memory and processing issues, and bad anxiety about school. So for now it’s impossible for me. Internet learning doesn’t stick like a directly immersive thing would.
HIGHLIGHT:
age range: under 13 | 14–17 | 18–22 | 23–25 | 26–29 | 30+ | 70+
am i okay with nsfw?: yes ( depends ) | No
my favorite/most common thing to rp is: Angst | fluff | smut | crack | action | Other
oc friendly?: Yes | no | depends
rp blog: DOES | doesn’t CONTAIN OOC POSTS - I’ll be real. It can be a lot of OOC posts every now and then because I can’t write and if you think I can, I’m lying to you. You’ve been fooled. I’m sorry.
TAGGING:
stolen from: the dash.
tagging: no one, I literally couldn’t care less if you do it. If you want to, just steal it.

Congrats Jessa on your second character, Molly Abrams. Please send us her blog within the next 48 hours!
OOC INFORMATION:
Name/Alias: Jessa Preferred pronoun: she/her/hers Age: 28 Timezone/Country: Eastern RP Experience: many years’ worth Activity Level: 7/10, most active evenings and weekends
IC INFORMATION:
Name: Molly Grace Abrams Designation: Switch Age: 20 Faceclaim: Katie LeClerc Birthday: November 11 Orientation: asexual (panromantic) Kinks: bondage, pain play, pet play, sensory play Anti-Kinks: age play, bathroom play, sex without kinks
BIO:
Molly had a fairly normal life when she was a child, growing up in a small town in Kansas with her siblings and her parents. That all changed when she was 8 years old. She was in the car with her brother, Artie, and her mother when someone slammed into them, causing the air bags to go off. The sound was extremely loud, and she didn’t understand it at the time, but in that moment, tiny bones inside her ears broke, and she could no longer hear. Her parents wanted her to get a cochlear implant to restore her hearing to something resembling what it used to be, but Molly was a stubborn girl. She knew Artie was going to deal with his injury from the crash for the rest of his life, and she didn’t want him to go through that alone.
After refusing the implant, Molly’s parents put her in a magnet school for deaf children, and she focused her attention there on learning American Sign Language as well as how to read lips. By the time she started 9th grade, she began to identify herself with the Deaf community. Signing became her primary mode of communication, though she continues to speak English around hearing family and friends. After she graduated high school, she and a group of Deaf friends enrolled in a local community college. Molly struggled with the classes, despite having an interpreter, but she managed to graduate with an Associate’s degree in Sociology. It was difficult for her to follow along in class, and she did most of her learning through reading the textbooks and study groups with her Deaf classmates.
It was Molly’s experience at the community college that made her realize that she needed to spend more time in the hearing world, and that is how she decided to go across the country to Lima Heights Institute for her mark training. She had originally planned to transfer to Gallaudet or another 4-year institution after earning her AA, but she knew she would need the extra time to really understand her mark and find a claim.
Being marked a Switch was a relief to Molly. She was so used to hearing people putting her in the “slow girl who can’t hear” box that it was a pleasant surprise that she’d be able to explore both marks before choosing the one that she felt best fit her. She knew the classes would be difficult to follow for her, but she was ready for the challenge.
BIO QUESTIONS:
What is your biggest fear and why?
Losing my sight. I’ve learned how to live—and how to live well—without being able to hear, but so much of that life is based on seeing the world around me that losing that sense would be devastating. Helen Keller was an incredible woman.
What 3 objects/places mean the most to you and why?
The Kansas City School for the Deaf. It was the first place I really became aware of Deaf culture and found someplace I was able to fit in.
My teddy bear, Brady. My parents got him for me after the accident, and I’ve slept with him since.
The running trail that goes around the lake in the park by our house. Running is such a nice way to clear my head and just get lost in everything my body is capable of doing.
Who is the one person you’d most like to meet (dead or alive)?
Deena Kastor. She holds American records for a lot of different long distance races, and she won a Bronze medal for the marathon at the 2004 Olympics. I remember cheering for her in that race as a kid, and she’s always been one of my favorite athletes. She doesn’t compete much anymore, but I’d still love to talk to her about running and just about life.
What is the one moment you would describe as your happiest/most excited?
One day, I think I was about 10, my mom picked me up from school like usual and we drove home without really talking, because she can’t turn her face to me enough while she’s driving for me to be able to read her lips. Anyhow, we pulled into the garage and she waved at me to not get out of the car right away. She took her seatbelt off and turned toward me, signing very slowly, “How was your day?” It was the first time she’d signed anything with me, and I couldn’t stop smiling. I still don’t know if she knows how much that moment meant to me, but I know she went to a lot of effort to start learning ASL for me. She signs more now, but I’ll still never forget that day in the car.
