was considering spontaneously going to a showing of The Monkey tonight but then I saw it was a horror comedy and it lost me
#stephen king#I don't get it like there was nothing comedic abt the story the movie was based on (afaik)#so why make the movie-version half horror half comedy. what are you basing the comedy part on#(lemme guess it's because they're like 'haw haw the monkey toy is cursed isn't that silly')#obvs it might be enjoyable anyway but meh. I don't like movies where it feels like everyone is just taking the piss out of the concept#hmmm. reminds me of another stephen king-movie that went from serious & depressing short story to 'let's just not take anything seriously'#(I'm talking abt Maximum Overdrive)#this makes me sound like I hate fun but that's where you're wrong!#I like comedies and I LOVE unintentional comedies#but when the movie feels like it's self-aware and 4th wall-breaking I'm like. yawn
