Actually, building on the tags I wrote on that poll [link]--
I dunno how common it is (I've seen at least a couple fics kinda reference ideas similar to this), but! I like to HC that the trainguys have little control of one feature that remains mostly inert (Face for Ingo, Voice for Emmet) that they compensate for with very rigid control over the other (vice versa).
The problem being (and this is where I may diverge), they both tend to OVERcompensate. So while Emmet has (what he thinks) is a nice and pleasant smile at all times, it can come off as kind of weird because it's SO big and ALWAYS on. Combined with his otherwise flat affect and highly direct, not-always-polite word choice, that sometimes puts folks off.
Ingo is the same way in the opposite direction; he's speaking with such emotion that everyone will surely understand what he's feeling! (or, rather, whatever feeling he is trying to project) But, again, he's got no sense of scale; he projects his voice with SO MUCH emotion that it can kind of give some people the impression that he's being insincere, or even sarcastic. This impression is only heightened by the fact that his face is All Frowny All The Time.
Most people tend to take them where they're coming from, but sometimes people get a bad impression from them and/or take them in bad faith.
#girumitalks#girumitalks about trainguys#none of my hcs are so hard-set that they can't be tweaked for different story ideas#but this is one of the ''harder'' ones#i am fond of the idea that emmet's resting face is just Like That too though#and iirc a fic i like actually did mention their hc that the twins tend to take on the other's traits when they're worn out#like emmet becoming frowny and ingo getting very terse dialogue-wise#which i also love#so idk. i'm just winging it mostly#(if i'm being completely honest... this is largely just another Projects On The Trainguys moment haha)
