#kris my beloved#i really really need to draw more older kris#because i am a firm believer that she gets more and more butch (or probably more futch tbh) as she gets older#getting her character arc right is really important to me bc i don't want to write her as just another “mom friend”#she cares about her loved ones a lot and it's a defining part of her character#but i want it to be clear that it's to her own detriment#i'm struggling to put it eloquently but basically#she spends so long putting her friends and family before herself that she kinda forgets about her own needs and desires#her hgss arc (gsc is her pokemon journey. this is years afterwards) is spent recovering and rediscovering herself#in a lot of different ways including her hobbies#fields that she wants to research#personal boundaries#and her general identity#and i want to show that growth in her design#slowly shifting away from femme-leaning to masc-leaning#(moving from “motherly” in a way to more independent)#even though she never becomes completely masc bc like i said#her compassion is a big part of who she is and it isn't *inherently* bad#just needs managing#(if i had a nickel for every pokemon character i've designed whose change in gender expression reflects their character arc)#(i'd have two nickels)#(which isn't a lot bit it's weird that it's happened twice)
