I would love to send you links! (Apologies for the length of this ask btw. I get excited about music).
So this is actually one of my favorite sets of their's on youtube because the sound quality isn't ass and the first vid has a shot from the side so you can see Joe's hands
https://youtu.be/9qIQzJGUS8M
https://youtu.be/Pi8LkerwcHI
Unforch, they didn't film the whole set so The Ringleader is absent. Which is a bummer cause there's a part of the song that Joe always plays by jumping onto, and then steping on, his keyboard (and then he would fall over)
If you wanna get into TVF, I would recomend listening the second half of their first album first (which sounds weird but like, it's a concept piece that flows together)
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1x4ivXaXMYdjspC7II4Kgj?si=ht9V6VzgTCiRFTiw5tPogQ
Then here's the last song they ever released, it's not on Spotify and it's one of my faves
https://thevenetiafair.bandcamp.com/track/death-is-the-poor-mans-doctor
As for getting into AVE, I think it's worth giving their album listen through at least once. It's got some fun tracts. However, it's.... I mean Will, Mario, and Jon were 19, 18, and 17 respectively when it came out. It sounds very good considering, but they've all grown as musicians since then. (Also should be noted, none of them get money for any of the spotify streams or bandcamp sales)
hi oh my god i am so so sorry for taking forever to answer this. but i do have a fun little surprise for you!
yeah the venetia fair is one of my favourite bands ever now, and i have to attribute it to you. i probably would've listened to them eventually, but you gave me the push i needed to start. otherwise i would've ended up discovering them a year later, or even further on.
after i received this ask, i listened to ESDTWGIOB and got absolutely obsessed. i have never found an artist that speaks to me as truly has tvf does. i sat on that for a few months (very bad at getting into music).
a few weeks ago, i decided to finally listen to the circus, because with the way my tvf interest was headed, i could not put it off any longer. i put it on, got overwhelmed (as you do), and listened to the whole thing.
it's one of my favourite albums now. my favourite currently, for sure. i literally cannot go a day without listening to it.
so i have a loooooot to thank you for. thank you for the links, thank you for the recs, and thank you for helping me find one of my favourite bands!
oh fuck i gotta talk about death is the poor man's doctor HOLY SHITTTTTT you were right that song is INCREDIBLE. i am so pissed that it's not on spotify. it makes me wonder the direction tvf could've taken if they followed through with the genre that song promised. it's whatever!! im fine about it. what matters is that i love the song and it's so special to me.
also never apologise for the length of the ask! i know it took me so long to answer, but that's my personal brain block talking. i love music so much and i love when people talk about their passions.
one last thank you, and a plea for us to be friends; i don't have many (if any) friends into tvf and you seem like you know a lot and have been around for a while. mutuals? <3
thank you for everything!
p.s. maybe one day i'll get into AVE. i'm working my way up to it.

You're pretty close with your interpretation of Secukupnya. Most interpretations of it is quite similar, describing a life of living paycheck to paycheck, empty and/or broken homes, and a generally dull existence. But it's fine to let go sometimes, be sad. Secukupnya itself means "just enough". Drink a bit, take a tissue paper to wipe away those tears. It'll pass through when you're able to move on and continue.
Also... Idk why but uhh.. are your links broken? Where you recommend half alive it sends me to a Tally Hall song (I love em) and Green Day sent me to a Nirvana song? Just wanna confirm if that's your intent hahah 😅
Also, have more songs:
One Big Beautiful Sound - Johnny Manchild and the Poor Bastards
Peradaban - .Feast (This one has translated lyrics on Spotify!!)
Holland, 1945 - Neutral Milk Hotel
The Wolf - SIAMES
One Big Beautiful Sound: holy fucking shit
holy. fucking. shit.
Peradaban: Yeah, uh, I'm not gonna use Spotify, and I'm not sorry. Anyway, this seems like it might be about Indonesian politics? I know nothing about Indonesia. I didn't have a world history class 'til high school and it was a shitty one that basically only covered western history, and even then it was only in reference to how it affected America, so like...yeah. I don't know if I should be alarmed by the nationalism or not, but given the fact that Indonesia is pretty close to Japan and China, and also two places the UK occupied, and also a place the USA occupied... I'm just going to assume that they're dealing with the effects and remnants of some kind of imperial occupation and that the nationalism is okay, in the same way that Irish Republicanism is based, despite them still being "republican".
Alright, you get the Sturgill Simpson, now.
Holland, 1945: Ah, white boy with guitar my fa-- oh. Ah, fuzz-rock, my favorite genre! Actually, when was this, late-'90s? That's pretty early for fuzz-rock, I thought that was a more recent development. Anyway, the instrumentation is my favorite part of this song. Lyrically, this song borders on that Joe Hawley-esque "I am saying vague, artsy words. They mean whatever you want." But I don't think that's what's happening. I'm sure there's a meaning to this that I'm just missing. I'm sure there's something anti-capitalist here. I can smell communism...but my brain refuses to connect the dots. I'll come back to it later.
You might like Pre-Either Light Vundabar (mainly the Gawk album).
The Wolf: Ah, Siames. I should've known you'd come for me eventually (ive never heard a siames song in my life but youtube really wants me to) (i'm pronouncing it sigh'a-maze btw). This one's sort of dance-y. Like, the intersection between EDM and Rock. I actually really like this style but I can never find any song using it that speaks to me y'know? I was big on Portugal. The Man in middle school/freshman year because they do things kinda like this sometimes but I don't listen to PTM anymore because I realized that their songs only have substance if you're high or hyperfixated.
You might think this is kinda funny, but for some reason this reminded me of On Melancholy Hill.

15 week Hindi learning review
Tumblr media
Okay, I decided to try and track the way I divide my scarce time to learn Hindi. I've created a sheet on my Notion 15 weeks ago, where I list the type of activities I've done per week. Here's what I've got so far:
Reading (performed in 10 out of 15 weeks)
Shudha Murty - Lokpriya Kahaniyan (ebook). I've actually still at the preface with this. If I'd been smart I probably would have skipped it at first and started reading an actual story. But apparently, I'm not smart like that and so my pace with this is tediously slow - I actually read it at work whenever I have like five minutes to spare which is... next to never.
I tried Beelinguapp a few times. There's some free Hindi content, and I enjoy listening to native speaker audio, but for some reason, this app just didn't do it for me. Maybe I'll try it sometime later again before I delete it from my phone.
I started Devdas as soon as I got my hands on it. I'm still struggling with the idea of "do not look up every single word but allow yourself to immerse in the language" but I'm sure I'll get there.
Writing (14 out of 15 weeks)
I posted 6 writing exercises on iTalki community pages, but after that, I felt that the writing prompts were either outlandish, too difficult or personal. I know I could write about anything, but I've been too lazy to figure out prompts for myself or just write something from the top of my head.
On the other hand, I've been keeping up with my Hindi video scripts and I write them very regularly.
Speaking (15 out of 15 weeks)
I'm actually quite pleased with myself that I've managed to find the time and opportunity to speak Hindi at least once a week with a native speaker for 15 weeks in a row! My iTalki tutor says I've made some progress and lessons that go well give me such a rush. But on low energy weeks, it's more difficult to see past my own repetitive mistakes.
In 12 out of 15 weeks I've also spoken to 1-2 other Hindi speakers other than my tutor. How cool is that for an introvert!
Listening (14 out of 15 weeks)
Besides the film songs I love, I've been listening to some Hindi podcasts on Spotify. My favourites so far are Hindi@dilse and Unshakable Life. BTW any recommendations are welcome!
I've also listened to the audio accompanying Rupert Snell's Hindi grammar books.
Watching (15 out of 15 weeks)
I've listed films (Baazigar, Jab Harry Met Sejal and Dil to Pagal hai (SRK who?)), TV shows (Mismatched, Sacred Games, House of Secrets), as well as Youtube standup comedy videos where I can understand maybe 40% without subtitles.
Grammar (7 out of 15 weeks)
I admit this doesn't look impressive. However, about 4-5 months ago this was my primary way of practising Hindi, going through my grammar books and exercises daily and a bit madly perhaps. So I'm actually glad that I've found the courage to now put into all that I've crammed in my head into practice and communicate with people, whether it is through my videos, by talking or this blog. But there's a lot more to learn about grammar too and I intend to try to focus on it more as spring comes.
On top of all this, I've used Duolingo in 7 out of these 15 weeks, but I just couldn't decide which category to put it in since I use it primarily for revision and vocabulary building through stories (could count as reading perhaps?).
