I wanted to find an antonym for "immerse", as in "It takes a moment to [opposite of immerse] himself from his book" and the first result offered to me by the internet is "disinter".

Which is... technically not wrong, I suppose, but I would never in a million years actually think of those two words as a pair of antonyms.
