After some floundering games released way too late in the console's lifetime, Intelligent systems was at a crossroads with Fire Emblem. Nintendo was letting them make a game for their new portable system, and IS needed a game that would help them sell fire emblem to a new gaming community. What they landed on was a nostalgic reimagining of a past game in the series, with plenty of references for old fans, while telling an upbeat storyline with tons of color to reel in younger new players.

It's kinda crazy Awakening does the same thing Binding Blade did a decade earlier isn't it?

#of course FE6 sets up the formula for Every Fire Emblem Game afterwards by deciding the series would follow the FE3 model #Awakening adds in somethings to that formula (Every character easy to recruit and a love interest to MC) but does not radically alter it #(Im also not convinced of the “tellius game released too late” argument but fe5? came out after the n64- that's LATE)#fire emblem #tagging so I can find this post again though im sure someone will get pissed at me for this somehow bc the FE tumblr comminity is the worst #my writings
