When Hilbert was battling N and Ghetsis, Grimsley watched with his brother in his arms; he didn't know what just happened, and Bianca and Hilda were rightfully too shaken to answer any of Shauntal's inqueries.

He only finds out later, when the gym leaders get information out of the grunts they captured, when Nikolai arrives at the scene and gives him the gist of what has happened- and he doesn't understand.

A sacrifice, a missing half of a heart, fate and roles- he didn't get any of it at all.

All he knew was that he had to be better; working hard wouldn't give his brother a good life, and working hard now wouldn't get the other half of his heart back.

Two years later, when the battle between Nate and Ghetsis at Giant Chasm dies down, he and Shauntal arrive at the scene, only to see his brother dead on a pedestal of stone, covered in frost.
