“it's not like i'm in love with you or anything.” with our anti delulu king minghao for the prompt game! (def not spurred on by his recent fancalls he’s sleeping outside)
Tumblr media
ⵌ minghao x reader. ⵌ word count: 1.2k ⵌ notes: minghao & reader are friends, feelings realization/denial. recent fan calls have also driven me insane. :)
Tumblr media
"I need you to teach me how to flirt."
You glance up from your phone to fix Minghao with an unamused glare. He doesn't back down— just stands in your entryway with a mildly annoyed expression.
"You know how to flirt just fine," you say, one eyebrow rising to communicate your skepticism. "What do you need me for?"
"I'm not convincing enough," he gripes as he moves further into your apartment.
It takes him only a couple of strides to reach you at your dining table. With a disgruntled huff, he collapses onto the chair next to you. "At least that's what the company says," he grumbles. "I'm— what's the word? Too detached or something."
You lock your phone with a sigh. This was shaping up to be a whole thing, it seems. "Isn't that your charm?" you muse aloud. "The one member who's not flirtatious and all that."
"Yeah, well, nonchalance doesn't sell," he shoots back. "But delusion does."
An involuntary snort of laughter escapes you. "Got me there."
For a moment, neither of you say anything. You only eye Minghao with amusement as he flops his head on to your table, dramatic as ever in his griping.
"Why me, though?" you ask suddenly.
He peeks up at you. "Hm?"
"Why are you asking me for help?"
Minghao must have noticed the slight narrowing of your eyes, the upturn of your lips, because he quickly straightens up in his seat. "It's not like I'm in love with you or anything," he says hastily, putting up his hands in front of him. "Oh, God no. I'm not in love with you."
"No need to sound so disgusted at the prospect, Hao." Your tone is just a little bit dry, perhaps even a touch offended.
He shoots you a tight smile in return. "I just—" Even though it's only the two of you in your apartment, he lowers his voice into an almost conspiratorial tone, like he's sharing a secret. You have to strain your ears to hear his next words. "I just trust you, you know? Trust that you'd help."
Ah.
Minghao always did know how to get you.
That's how the two of you end up sitting across from each other in some obscure, middle-of-nowhere café, as per Minghao's choice. He had sent you a Google Calendar invitation for this little escapade, and its title remains apt: Operation: Teach Minghao How to Flirt.
At least he has the decency to treat you to coffee. You toy with the paper wrapping of your straw as you eye Minghao with mild apprehension.
"Alright," you say. "Let's do this."
He squares his shoulders like a man heading to war. "Let's do this," he echoes.
A beat.
Then, he asks— "How are we supposed to do this?"
You resist the urge to faceplant on to the table between you. "Maybe— we can pretend that you're on a fan call," you offer.
"Okay, yeah. Yeah. That works."
A part of you finds it adorable, how dedicated Minghao is to the bit. He pulls himself to his full height in his seat before putting on a practiced smile, the type that you've seen him sport dozens of times.
"How was your day?" he acts coolly, putting on what you've dubbed to be his 'idol voice'. A specific tone and inflection that he takes on when doing fanservice.
You sip at your drink before answering. "Better now that I'm talking to Minghao gege," you respond, and it immediately looks like all the color has drained from Minghao's face.
"Yah," he chokes out. "Why are you—"
"What? Your fans are going to flirt back. You have to build resistance to it," you shoot back.
Minghao lets out a low 'tsk' of annoyance before briefly running his hand through his face. The absentminded action seems to ease some of his initial shock because he takes a deep breath, pulls the smile right back on, and proceeds to hit you with, "Is that so? Well, this is my favorite part of the day, too."
You give a small nod of your head, indicating some approval to his improved response.
"What else did you do today, gege?" you ask casually, intentionally giving Minghao an opening.
He goes right for it. "Waited impatiently until I could meet with you."
A corner of your mouth twitches upward. 'Good,' you mouth at Minghao, and he relaxes a little in his seat.
"I'm so happy to be here," you go on. "You're my bias."
"And you're my…"
Minghao trails off. He hesitates for a moment too long, and you can't help but chuckle slightly.
"Not every sentence has to be a flirtation," you tell him. "Just— time it, I guess. Go for the jugular when they least expect it."
"You make it sound so violent," he complains, but his eyebrows are drawn together in a way that shows he's committing your words to memory.
You backtrack a bit for his sake. "So, gege—" There's still a flicker of an expression on Minghao's face, like the term genuinely affects him. It's gone as fast as it came, leaving you wondering if you had imagined it. "— can you tell me you love me?"
"Must I?"
"Minghao."
"Right, sorry."
Minghao clears his throat and schools his expression into something more acceptable. "I love you," he says, though it's evident from the look in his eyes that he's saying it out of pure indulgence.
You knock his knee with yours under the table. He returns the gesture good-naturedly.
"How much do you love me?" you insist, leaning forward slightly.
Panic briefly crosses Minghao's face. You bite down on your lower lip to keep yourself from laughing out loud, and the sight of you holding down giggles only seems to spur him on.
He casts a quick glance around the table, as if looking for the answer to your question in the straws or the cups.
"I love you like coffee," he decides.
Minghao's gaze moves from the iced americano in his hand up to your face. When your eyes meet, he doesn't look away, instead going on in a quiet, earnest tone, "Bitter or sweet, cold or lukewarm— you're the reason I get up in the morning."
You blink once, then twice.
You hadn't expected to be stunned by the sheer sincerity in his tone. The open ways he's gazing at you. You can't tell if his 'idol voice' has slipped or if you're simply caught off-guard by the rarity that is Xu Minghao flirting, but for a foolish moment, you feel a pang of jealousy.
Jealousy for fans that will reap the benefits of this little escapade. Jealousy for those who will receive his practiced charm.
You snap out of your reverie with a breathless sort of laugh.
"See?" you say, your hands gripping your cup a little tighter to your chest. "You got it."
There it is again. That fleeting look on Minghao's face, the one you can't quite place.
"Yeah," he eventually mumbles, his eyes never leaving yours. "Only because you make it easy."

Nine Percent Scenarios if they see someone being harassed in public
Tumblr media
Cai Xukun
Tumblr media
Alright, we all know that the guys from 9% are very respectful just to anyone; regardless the age, gender or race. Kun, was no exception. Despite being an only child, he knows what can happen in a day to day life. So, it wasn’t really a surprised that when he was taking the train to head somewhere and saw someone being harassed, he immediately stood up and called out the harasser, went over to the person being harassed and made sure they were alright. Bonus:
If the person that is being harassed turns out to be an ikun/nines, I definitely feel that Kun would not hesitate to throw a fit and would more than happy to comfort his ikuns/nines
“Hey! Hey! Don’t do that! You can’t just touch them just like that!! Have some respect!”
“Hey, you alright? That must’ve been scary for you. Don’t worry, they won’t bother you no more :)”
Chen Linong
Tumblr media
Nongnong may be a sweet, adorable, smiley person. But be aware that he will not hesitate if he sees someone in trouble. I feel that super Nongnong will definitely make an appearance; especially when it comes to harassing. Whether it is bullying or any form of harassment, I feel Nongnong will be the type to quietly observed first before making his move. I feel that Nongnong will definitely go for the more ‘please stop this’ move first before the ‘I said stop it unless you want me to call the police or hurt you’ kind of move.
Bonus:
If the one being harassed is a nines/nongtang, I’m sure Nongnong will definitely go for the second move in an instant and just like Kun, immediately comfort them, even going as far as staying with them until they feel safer.
“Hey! You shouldn’t do that! That’s not nice!”
“Are you alright? Has this happened before? Don’t worry, I’ll stay by until that person goes away”
Fan Chengcheng
Tumblr media
Chengcheng, I feel would definitely observed the situation first. He wouldn’t rashly “attack”. No, he wanted to make sure that the situation was indeed what he had thought because it’ll be awkward if he just butt in when in fact it was just a misunderstanding. However, if it was indeed the situation he had thought, he would slowly and silently butt in, tell the harasser off even giving them a cold/dark/harsh (throw in every dark words) look.
Bonus:
If the one being harassed is a nines/cheng stars, beware of his cold harsh gaze (gets it from Yanjun!!). He would definitely be braver in going physical. Like I feel that when he found out it was a fan of his and the harasser is provoking even more, Chengcheng will instantly go physical.
“OI!! Back off! I said, BACK OFF!!”
“Don’t worry, they won’t come back. If they do, you hurry go to a crowded place or call for emergency, alright? There, there, you’re ok”
Justin Huang Minghao
Tumblr media
Alright, despite Justin being the youngest, he knows his sheez. I feel that Justin would be similar to Chengcheng in the sense that he’ll observed first. And we all know how good Justin is at observing!! Like boi knows some of the smallest details!! But once he truly noticed the situation, he would not hesitate to move what’s so ever. Boi will even go as far as be physical right from the start!
Bonus:
If the one being harassed is a nines/NaNa, confirm, Justin gonna through a fit or even cause a scene. He wouldn’t even hesitate one bit even if he got hit whatsoever. If it gets rough or more people showed up, he might even call his geges from both NEX7 and 9%.
“I dare you to touch them again, C’MON!!”
“Are you ok? Where do you need to go? I can accompany you”
Lin Yanjun
Tumblr media
Ok, for Jun, I feel that despite in the Idol Producer episode he was definitely going for the subtle way of preventing a fight, when it comes to harassment, he will not go subtle. Nope, instead, boi doing a 180 and can instantly go physical, depending on the situation. If the harasser is a girl, he would try to be polite and tell them off but if they are persistent, he may throw in that RBF times 10 and his tone will definitely be more rude. However!! If the harasser is a guys, he won’t hesitate to budge in and push the guy away then leave with his cold, dark, scary, ‘leave or I’ll make you leave’ kinda look.
Bonus:
If the one being harassed is a nines/evanism, be prepared my friend cause he will make no exception. And let’s just say they are girls, boi has a little sister and he knows what can happen. He would most definitely not hesitate in going physical like pushing the harasser away or even throw in a punch or two.
“OI!! Stop what you’re doing? What? You really think that I wouldn’t notice? Leave, before I make you myself”
“Hey, there’s no need to be scared, they won’t bother you no more. Please be extra careful next time and don’t hesitate to shout for help”
Zhu Zhengting
Tumblr media
As we all know, the mama of the group is definitely, without question, mama Ting!! And he just always looks out for his loved ones like uwu (hubby goals!!). So, when he saw a situation that was what he think is, he would definitely go to their aid. He would either instantly stood in front of them or he would tell the harasser to back off then instantly helped out the one that got harassed.
Bonus:
If the one that got harassed is a nines/zheng zhungtang, his motherly side would instantly show like, he would scold the harasser, telling them they have no shame whatsoever.
“Back off before I call the authorities right now?”
“Hey, are you alright? You didn’t get hurt did you?”
Wang Ziyi
Tumblr media
Wang Ziyi may seem very tough and mind you, he is tough. But we know that he is actually a softie. Hence why I feel he would tell off the harasser as nicely and politely as possible first. But if they provoke him, he will definitely go a bit more harsh and will comfort the one that got harassed and even accompanied them until they say they are alright.
Bonus:
If the one that gets harassed is a nines/ISEE, I feel it’s be quite similar but Ziyi would definitely try his best to make them even more comfortable like asking them what song do they like, which performance is their favourite, etc.
“Please stop what you are doing. Do you not see that you’re making them uncomfortable?”
“Hey, are you alright? Oh, you like that? Me too! Hey, I’ll accompany you, don’t worry about it”
Xiao Gui (Wang Linkai)
Tumblr media
Xiao gui, I feel, it can go either way. If the situation wasn’t as intense, he would just step in and tell them off nicely. However, if it was a more “escalated” situation, Xiao gui wouldn’t be scared to go physical.
Bonus:
If the one that is being harassed is a nines/da lin, he would for sure go for the physical approach. Push the harasser off (if it was a girl, he would slowly tell them to back off before he calls someone) then makes sure that the ones being harassed is alright. Would even rap to cheer them up.
“Eyy eyy, stop that. Back off please. Don’t make me call the police or security”
“Eiyo, you alright there? I hope that didn’t bother you too much. Is alright, wasn’t a problem at all”
You Zhangjing
Tumblr media
Alright, we all know that despite being the “shortest” (ehem, 176cm short?!), Zhangjing can be savage af. I feel that he wouldn’t really dare to pick a fight so he would just tell them off as “nicely” as he can before threatening them to call security. However!! If let’s say he was already with security or maybe the other guys from 9%, he would not hesitate to go a bit more “savage” or “rude”. He would dare to be up in their faces if they went any further.
Bonus:
If the ones that are being harassed is a nines/xi you, Zhangjing would still be a bit scared to pick a fight but would definitely be more confident in standing up for his fans!!
“Hey! Leave them alone! I’ll call the security if you don’t!”
“Eh, are you ok? I know that was scary, but it’s alright now!! Do you want me to sing to help make you feel better? Or we can get food!!”
