Tumblr media
You stared at your phone in shock, unable to form any coherent thoughts at the moment. The delivered message was glowing on the screen, and every time you looked at it, it felt like knives twisting in your gut. You couldn’t believe it. This… This had to be a nightmare. It had to be. But no matter how many times you pinched and slapped yourself, you didn't wake up. It was very real, and it was happening to you.
Your boyfriend had just broken up with you. And over a text like a coward. He didn’t provide any explanation; he just said it wasn't working anymore. You didn’t understand it. Sure, there had been some tough moments in your relationship, but you resolved those ages ago. The past few months had been nothing but happy. He had never given you any hints, any signs, or anything to indicate he was feeling that way. Hell, it wasn't even that long ago when he was telling you how much he loved you and how much you meant to him.
You sank to your knees, feeling the tears forming at the corners of your eyes. With shaking fingers and hazy vision, you closed the conversation with your now-ex and opened a different chat. Barely registering any of your actions, you typed out a simple message. Then the phone slipped out of your fingers, and you curled into a pathetic little ball, lying on the floor of your bedroom and wetting it with your tears, wondering what led him to that decision.
Was it something you did? Were you not good enough as a partner? You weren’t the most affectionate person out there; physical contact or expressing your feelings was something you struggled with a lot. But you always did your best to make sure your ex-boyfriend - you corrected yourself - knew you loved him. Small gestures, compliments, spending time together, being his support system when he didn't believe in himself... You always thought that was an important part of a relationship, so you tried to fulfill the duty as best as you could. But it wasn't enough. You failed as a partner. You failed, you failed, you failed. Your brain kept chanting that over and over again. All of your insecurities came flooding into your brain at once. You covered your ears in a useless attempt to silence the voices in your head.
You didn't know how long you were there, curled into yourself. You just knew it was long enough for the tears to stop falling. Faintly, you heard someone in the other room, but you couldn’t bring yourself to care who it was. You were too far gone in your own head. Someone pounded on your door, but you didn't answer. In the next second, the door was getting kicked down as a distressed Changbin ran through.
Seeing you on the floor in that state made him stop. He slowly kneeled down to you, bringing one hand to your hair and stroking it gently. “Are you with me? Y/N?” When he didn't get a response from you, he sat down, leaning on your bed for leverage, as his arms gently lifted you and helped you into his lap. Then his hand returned to your hair, carding his fingers through it while he whispered sweet nothings to you. “It's okay, baby. I'm here now,” he murmured, his other hand moving to stroke your back. His soothing touch slowly brought you out of your dazed state.
“Binnie,” you choked on a sob, wrapping your arms around his waist and pressing yourself closer. Right now, he was a grounding weight around you. As long as he was there, you were going to be okay.
“It's okay,” he said softly, not halting his ministrations even as you moved. “It's okay.” He let you lay there as long as you needed, providing you with the silent comfort you needed right now. He knew you would tell him eventually, but he also knew you needed to do that at your own pace. Pressuring you into talking would only lead to you closing off completely.
After a while, you pulled away. You had calmed down enough to talk. You looked at Changbin, who flashed you a relieved smile. Noticing the strange material that was crumpled under your fingers. You looked up at him, your lips parted in slight shock. “You're still in your stage outfit,” you whispered, looking at him in disbelief.
“We just finished the shoot when I saw your message,” he shrugged. “It said he broke up with you and to help, so I ran here. The stylists weren’t too happy, but Channie-hyung will handle it.” Changbin smiled at you. The realization dawned on you. When you texted Changbin, it was in the middle of a music show.
“Binnie, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have disrupted your schedule; I was just  panicking and-"You began frantically apologizing, because this wasn't that big of a problem. You just overreacted. You didn’t need to drag Changbin into your mess. The voices got loud again.
“Hey, hey, hey. Stop,” Changbin said gently but firmly, grabbing your hands so you would stop fidgeting. He intertwined your fingers with his and squeezed to let you know he's with you. “You needed me, so I came here. I didn't have to do it, but I did. Because I care about you more than about doing a music show.” You looked up at him, your lips stretching to a smile, in spite of the mess happening in your brain. You didn’t deserve this man. Changbin was too good for you. But you were happy you had him.
You launched yourself onto him, wrapping your arms securely around his neck. “Thank you, Binnie. For being here and... and for everything,” you murmured into his shoulder.
“Of course,” he responded, hugging you tighter.

Tumblr media
Immediately after entering the studio, you were swarmed by a group of stylists and makeup artists. Despite being in the industry for a few years now, this was something you were still getting used to. You weren’t a risk-loving person, quite the opposite, actually. You liked to have everything planned out beforehand and to know where you were going and what you were going to be doing. You liked to be prepared. You liked control. Nonetheless, photoshoots were not that kind of thing. It usually depended on who you were working with, but more often than not, you weren’t told what you were going to shoot. The company would provide a short questionnaire about things you were and weren’t comfortable with, but they barely told you the theme. And even though you loved being a model, this part of the job was not your favourite.
And Kim Seungmin was the worst of them. He was a freelance photographer, a highly demanded one, but he often set aside the time to do some photoshoots of his own to update his portfolio and Instagram. And he liked to rope his friends into modeling for him. Having met him all the way back in high school and being a professional model on top of being his girlfriend, no wonder you were on top of his list. Unfortunately for you, he liked to keep his concepts a secret, refusing to tell you anything except the time and location. For reasons unknown to you, you always said yes, though. Maybe it was the pleading puppy eyes he mastered over the years, or because you knew he would never make you do anything you were truly uncomfortable with. And so he kept asking, and you kept agreeing.
And that was how you found yourself in a makeup chair in front of a not very stable table with a mirror placed on top of it. It certainly wasn't the best makeup station you saw, but on the other hand, you were in an abandoned warehouse that supposedly inspired Seungmin, so it could have been worse. At least three stylists were currently occupied by your hairstyle for the shoot, while others argued about the shade of your eyeshadow. You sighed and relaxed in the chair. This was going to take some time.
Three braids later, some comotion could be heard by the entrance. When you turned your head to the source, you saw Jeongin walking towards the makeup station, looking excited. You should have guessed he would be here. Besides you, Jeongin was Seungmin's favourite model. And he especially liked photographing you two together, claiming the visuals were out of this world.
You greeted Jeongin politely when he sat down. Despite him being Seungmin's best friend, you never hung out much with him, aside from photoshoots. You tried to make small talk with him as the stylists were getting both of you ready, but it was so awkward that you were glad when the makeup artists told you to be quiet so as not to mess up the makeup.
Seungmin arrived soon after. He came by the station to greet you and Jeongin. “Any guesses on the concept yet? This one is pretty obvious,” he smirked, tilting his head to Jeongin, who was now dressed in a loose white shirt and tight pants, with knee-high boots ready. You shook your head. Well, you had your ideas but didn't want to say them out loud in front of Seungmin. He made it a game to let you guess the themes for photoshoots, rewarding you with a kiss whenever you guessed right. More often than not, you didn't, though, and he would mock you for it (with love, of course). So you started to refuse to tell him, making him pout about ruining the game. It was an endless back-and-forth, but that was just how the two of you worked. Love disguised as bickering and teasing.
Half an hour later, when you were in your costumes, the concept finally became clear. Faeries, specifically a faerie queen and a king. While you and Jeongin were getting dressed, Seungmin and the rest of the crew created a scene that looked like something out of a dark fairytale. The old warehouse was decorated with lights, sheer fabric, flowers, and all the typical faerie items, which strongly contrasted with the ruins around you. Someone even made a half-broken throne, and after the first few poses, it was explained to you that you and Jeongin represented the faerie conquerors after their victory, claiming the throne of the land they left destroyed. The concept was a complex story that made your head hurt a little bit trying to fully understand the vision, but that was normal for Seungmin. You let it go and focused on being the best dark queen you could be.
After the shoot, Seungmin asked you to stay for a little bit. You sat down next to him, throwing an arm around his shoulder and leaning into his side. Seungmin shoved the camera in front of you. “You looked beautiful,” he said, showing you the first couple of pictures. “My scary queen.” Looking at the pictures, you had to agree with him. You looked majestic, with the background and your costume creating this mysterious and dangerous aura around you. You went over the rest of the pictures with him, smiling when he paused to point out a detail, excitedly telling you how you captured his vision perfectly.
“I knew what I was doing when I started dating a model,” he mused, yelping in pain when you smacked his shoulder playfully.
“Hey.” You put on an offended face. “So that's the only reason we're dating, Kim Seungmin?” You cocked your brow and watched him agree with a mischievous smirk on his face. "Well, you should know that I only agreed to date you because you take pretty pictures,” you replied, suppressing a smile. You needed to keep up your mock offense a bit longer.
“See, it's mutually beneficial,” Seungmin shrugged and swiftly avoided another hit to his arm. During that, he lost his balance and fell from the bench, his camera still in his hands. You couldn’t help but laugh as he went down, desperately trying to shield the camera from the impact. When he looked up from the ground with furrowed brows, you only laughed harder.

“Oh, you’re a dead man, Seungmin,” Jisung whistled as the whole group watched the carefully put-together snowball fly across the field and right into the left side of your face. The hit was so strong that it made you take a few steps back. You wiped the rest of the snow off your cheek. It burned a little, and you were sure you were going to end up with a red mark. Glaring at Seungmin, you angrily wiped your hands on your pants and crouched down. With passion that could equal a bull that just saw a red flag, you began pushing the snow around you, compiling your own snowball with the intention of making it much bigger and firmer than Seungmin's.
Felix and Chan, who were on their way to make sure you were okay, immediately back away at the sight of the quickly forming snowball. As did the rest of the members. The whole group retreated into safety, with Hyunjin attempting to hide behind Changbin. At any other moment, that would be amusing, but now the dancer looked genuinely scared. He didn’t need to, though, because all your rage was directed towards a certain puppy-like singer.
To give credit where it's due, Seungmin realized his mistake fairly soon, shouting a quick “Sorry!” but to no avail. You had already gathered your snowball, and it would be sad to see it go to waste. When Seungmin saw you marching towards him, snowball in hand, he tried to run away. He didn’t get far because Minho suddenly emerged from the side, wrapping his strong arms around the singer. He kept Seungmin's hands locked to his sides, holding him hostage as he tried to break free. But Minho was too strong for him, so Seungmin had no choice but to await his fate. As you got closer, Minho ducked behind him to avoid the snow.
With a ruthless look on your face, you shoved the snow inside Seungmin's jacket. At that moment, Minho let go and ran back to hide behind Chan, peeking from behind his shoulder as Seungmin squirmed.
“It's on, darling,” Seungmin muttered when he managed to get out as much snow as he could from inside his clothes. He watched you carefully, waiting for a moment when you let your guard down. Feeling victorious, you turned away from him, intending to high-five Jisung and Jeongin, who were laughing at Seungmin's misery. And that was your fatal mistake. At that moment, Seungmin charged forward, launching himself onto you, and you both fell into the snow. You rolled around for a bit before Seungmin managed to pin you under him, sitting on your hips, smirking victoriously. Seungmin reached next to your head, grabbing a handful of snow and raising his hand to show you exactly what was awaiting you.
The members stayed aside, watching you intently. Even Chan, who was usually the first one to stop these kinds of activities, let you have your "fun," as you would call it. However, as soon as the air pierced a shriek because the snow somehow made it inside someone's pants, he had enough. Chan began walking towards you, intending to break the fight. “Okay, that's maybe-”
“Just let the kids play, Channie.” Minho placed a hand on the leader's shoulder, clearly amused by the way you managed to switch your positions, now sitting on top of Seungmin. “Young love, how beautiful,” he sighed, placing his other hand over his heart, pretending to be touched by the rather violent fight breaking out in front of them as you and Seungmin were back to rolling around, shoving snow into your faces, behind each other's clothes, anywhere you could reach.
It was quite an interesting relationship that you and Seungmin had. It was a constant push-and-pull, with both of you being very competitive, so it wasn't uncommon to see you playfully fighting with each other even before you started dating. Because it was all just a game, no matter how violent it got. In Chan's eyes, it only worsened after you and Seungmin became official. Nowadays, there were absolutely no limits to what you could do. Of course, you knew each other's limits and when to stop. You and Seungmin placed absolute trust in each other, secure in the knowledge that neither of you would ever do something to seriously hurt the other.
You knew that after the fight, Seungmin would help you dry your clothes, wrap you up in a blanket, and make you a hot cup of tea to warm up. He would sit next to you, snuggle into your side, watch some shitty drama with you, and spend the whole time making snarky remarks about the plot.
Now, though, it was all out. It was a fight to the death, and you were determined to be the last one standing. However, Seungmin was set on the same. And so the members watched in part horror, part amusement, and part fascination, anxiously anticipating the outcome. It never came because Chan became fed up with your antics, and with Changbin’s help, he broke up the fight. He took one look at your drenched clothes before sending you back to the dorm to dry and warm up. With a disappointed look on his face, he watched you slowly leave the park, holding hands and giggling.
True to your prediction, as soon as you crossed the threshold of the dorm, Seungmin helped you take your clothes off, throwing them on the ground with his jacket. He went to his room and brought back loose shorts and a hoodie, handing them to you and sending you off to the shower, saying he would take care of the clothes. You smiled and thanked him, leaning forward to press a lingering kiss to his lips.
Later, he came to join you under the hot water, helping you wash your hair. Even when you were done, he stayed with you in the stall, partly because he wanted to enjoy the moment a while longer and partly to piss off Minho by using up the hot water. You smiled, pure happiness radiating from your face as he hugged you, peppering kisses onto your wet skin and muttering apologies for the snow, even though you weren’t really mad. Because no matter how far your games went, it was these small, gentle moments that truly defined your relationship.

“Jisung? Jisung, come on, you need to move,” you groaned, trying to push your boyfriend off of you. He had been laying on top of you ever since he came back from the studio, which was at least half an hour ago. He hadn't moved or fallen off despite you squirming under him, which was honestly admirable, so you let him. But now your bladder was starting to make itself known, so you restarted the attempts at pushing him away. “I'll be right back, I promise, Ji. I just need to use the bathroom, and then you can lay on me again,” you pleaded. Jisung seemed to consider your proposal, which almost made you smack him with a pillow. What was there to consider in such a request? Thankfully, he moved away soon, and you sprinted from the bed in the direction of the bathroom.
You came back to a pouty rapper on your bed. “You seriously won't survive for five minutes without me, will you?” you mocked him, but there was no malice in your tone, and Jisung knew. Your eyes were overflowing with fondness and affection for him, as they were every time you looked at the rapper. “You're so fucking whipped for him, always giving him the heart eyes,” Minho remarked one day before you and Jisung got together. “Shut up,” you whined then, but now you had to admit Minho was right after all. At least you weren’t alone in that pit, Jisung too had the disgustingly in-love expression whenever you were in the same room, as his members liked to point out to tease him.
You walked back to the bed, where Jisung patiently waited. “You threaded your fingers into his hair, gently massaging his scalp as he leaned into the touch and closed his eyes in contentment. You smiled and moved to kneel on the bed next to him. Your hand never stopped its ministrations, which turned out to be a rather difficult task as you tried to keep your balance climbing onto the bed, but somehow you managed. Resting your back against the wall behind your bed, you pulled Jisung into your lap. His head found its place in the place where your shoulder met your neck, and he sighed, completely relaxed. You circled your arms around his waist, keeping him in place. Not that he would ever try to run away, in fact, Jisung said on multiple occasions that you were his favourite pillow. You just liked to hold him, enjoying how small he felt in your embrace. With his eyes closed, his face buried in your neck, and his chest slowly rising and falling, he looked so much younger and more vulnerable than he was. A sense of possessiveness lit up in your chest, along with the need to protect him from everything.
You leaned down to place a few kisses in his hair. That action made Jisung smile, and you only held him tighter. Jisung sleepily suggested watching some anime, claiming to be too tired to do anything but still awake enough to not fall asleep. You agreed. Keeping one hand around his body, you, by some miracle, managed to place the laptop onto the bed before maneuvering both of you to lie on your sides. You wrapped around Jisung's back like a koala while he searched for a show to watch.
You barely got to the end of the first episode before you could hear his soft snoring. “Not tired my ass,” you scoffed. As if he heard you, Jisung made a disapproving sound in his sleep, and you rushed to stroke his hair comfortingly, muttering apologies in between placing kisses on his neck and shoulder, ushering him deeper into his sleep through the gentle touches. When you were sure he wasn't going to wake up, you moved the laptop away and settled more comfortably behind him. Reaching for a blanket, you covered both of you and closed your eyes, drifting off to sleep not long after.

You lazily reached for Chan's hand, intertwining your fingers with his. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw his face light up with a smile, and his grip on your hand slightly tightened. You were walking through the city, covered in darkness and street lights, with nobody around you.
One of the perks of being the leader was that skijigi let Chan do pretty much everything he wanted as long as he promised to be careful, and he took great advantage of that, taking you on a late-night walk. These dates have become a sort of tradition for you two. It was the only time you truly had for each other. No schedules, no managers, no nosy members. Just you, Chan, and the stars.
“What are you thinking of?” Chan mused, moving his arm to bring you closer.
“You. Us. How nice it is to be here with you,” you answered truthfully, a tiny blush creeping its way onto your cheeks. Even though it was dark and Chan couldn't see you that well, you still pressed into his side, hiding your face in his jacket. Your action only made him chuckle, and he stopped walking for a moment to place a gentle kiss on the top of your head.
“I know,” he murmured into your hair, and you would swear your heart melted at his soft display of love. With a stupidly happy grin on your face, you pulled away from Chan, just enough so you could comfortably stand next to him, and resumed walking.
You kept a slow pace, neither of you wanting to end it too soon. You never really talked much during this type of date, but Chan didn't mind it. In fact, he too preferred it to be rather quiet, with only occasional sentences. Sometimes the best way to relax was just to be in each other's company, enjoying the peace and quiet of the night. No words were needed.
“Channie, wait,” you stopped him after a while, pointing to a staircase with funny shapes that created a heart. “I want a picture with that!” You turned around to face him, giving him your best puppy eyes. The truth was, you didn't even need them because Chan would do anything you asked for in a heartbeat, but you liked to watch the fond smile that appeared on his face whenever you did it.
“Give me your phone,” he sighed, knowing he had lost yet another battle to you. You smiled at him and ran to the staircase, full of excitement.
One of the many things you loved about Chan was his complete dedication to everything that concerned you, including taking pictures. Not only did he give you pointers so the pictures would look as best as possible, but he was absolutely ready to lie down on the ground right then and there, just to get the perfect angle. That was where you stopped him, though, by calling him over for a selca together.
“Satisfied now?” Chan chuckled, lifting his arm from where it was resting on your shoulders. With a bright grin, you assured him that yes, you were very happy with how your impromptu photoshoot turned out. You thought you were going to continue your walk now, but Chan unexpectedly thrust his own phone into your hand. “You know what? Take some of me too, for STAY,” he said, already getting into position on the stairs.
Laughing softly, you stepped back and positioned yourself to get the best angle. “At this point, I expect a handwritten thank-you letter from your fangirls, Christopher,” you scoffed before giving him a few directions on how to pose. “Without me, your Instagram would have zero content.”
Chan had no answer for that, because it was the truth. You were the mysterious photographer behind most of Chan's posts ever since he created his solo account. At first, it took a lot of persuasion on your part, but then he found a liking for taking pictures on your nighttime dates and posting them to both reward and tease his fans.
After both of you were satisfied with the number of pictures, you joined your boyfriend on the stairs so he could briefly look through the photos. After approving of them, he grabbed your arm, startling you as he pulled you down onto his lap. Or that was the intention, at least. In reality, him already sitting on the stairs didn't give him much leverage, and you ended up falling on him. Both of you began to laugh, but not without Chan's reflexes kicking in first to check if you were safe to be loud. Luckily, the area around you was empty, save for an elderly couple walking their dog a few meters away from you.
Suddenly, you felt Chan's fingertips lightly touch your jaw, angling your face more towards his. Satisfied with this new position, he leaned down to connect your lips. Despite the countless times you've kissed him, it still gave you butterflies, like it was the first time. His lips were soft and gentle against yours, with his tongue lazily exploring your mouth. One of your hands found its way into his hair, to which he responded by moving his own hand and tilting your head for better access.
Kissing Chan was undoubtedly your favourite feeling in the entire world. The way his lips fit perfectly with yours like two pieces of the same puzzle, the way he made you feel safe in his embrace, the way you felt how much he cared for you, and the way you knew how incredibly lucky you were to have this man by your side. He knew how to put all of those emotions into a single touch of his lips. Kissing Chan felt familiar but new at the same time. You were positive that you were never going to get tired of it.
When you began to pull away for oxygen, he didn't let you go far. His hand stayed placed on your face, now with his thumb caressing your cheek. You smiled at him, hoping to convey all the love you had for Chan in that one simple expression. His eyes sparkled, and you couldn't help but get lost in the dark, warm, and welcoming ocean of stars that were held in his eyes.
“I love you so much, baby,” he murmured, placing a kiss on the tip of your nose and making you giggle.
It was probably dangerous to sit here in the open, despite the cover of the night. At any time, somebody could take a picture, recognize Chan, and cause a scandal. These thoughts have plagued your mind since he kissed you, but when he pulled you closer to bury his nose in your hair, you forgot all about them. All that was left was the sky full of stars, Chan, and the soft kisses he placed in your hair.
“I love you too,” you replied, settling your head on his chest and letting his arms hold you. As long as he was there with you, nothing could spoil the perfect moment.

"You should tell him.” That was the first thing Seungmin told you when he found out you and Jeongin were dating. When he introduced you to each other, he thought you would be good together, and he was right. Fast forward two months later, and you announced your relationship. Was it fast? Probably, but you and Jeongin just clicked in a way you had never before with anyone. You told each other everything, and even after such a short time, you felt like you knew everything about him. Yet now, six months into being together, Jeongin still didn't know your deepest secret. You were a witch. Seungmin knew, of course, but he promised not to tell Jeongin until you were ready. But that moment seemed to never come, and Seungmin was growing impatient.
Today he was over at yours, yet again trying to convince you to tell Jeongin about your true identity. But you were scared. What if he wasn't going to accept you? You loved him too much to lose him over something like that. Seungmin strongly disagreed with you, and he told you every time you would ask. Often, he told you when you didn't ask as well.
“Look, all I'm saying is, you should tell him,” Seungmin said for the approximately millionth time since the start of your relationship. He plopped down on your couch, accepting the drink you handed him with a smile. His eyes followed you as you sat down opposite him. “I promise, Jeongin won't be mad.”
“You don't know that,” you answered. Of course, the two of them were best friends, claiming to know each other like the back of their hands. But not even Seungmin could predict what Jeongin would do in a situation like this.
“I do,” Seungmin insisted. He leaned forward, placing his elbows on his thighs. “Just tell him. I promise you, he will accept you as a witch. I mean, with his-” Seungmin cut himself off, hoping you wouldn't notice. Fortunately for him, you were silent, thinking about what he said earlier. Seungmin seemed very insistent, and truth be told, you were starting to believe him. Maybe it was worth a shot, you decided. After all, Seungmin knew Jeongin better than you. And it would get Seungmin off your back, which was a welcomed plus.
“Okay,” you decided, months of persuasion finally settling in. “I'll go call him right now.” Seungmin grinned, feeling victorious. His eyes had that mischievous spark that appeared whenever he knew something the others didn't.
Later that day, you heard the bell ring as Jeongin came over. You greeted each other, both of you feeling nervous. Oh God, Seungmin didn't tell him anything, did he? With your anxiety spiking up again, you reached for his hand. When he took it into his, you led him inside the apartment.
“You wanted to talk about something? If I did something wrong, I'm so sorry!” Jeongin hurriedly apoloziged, barely setting foot into the living room. “You just sounded so serious on the phone, and I..." He left the sentence unfinished, and the realization dawned on you. Seungmin didn't say anything to him, you did. You called him, asking him to come over because you had something you needed to discuss in person. And Jeongin, always being the more insecure one, must have thought you were going to break up with him.
You grabbed both of his hands and squeezed them to reassure him. “You didn't do anything wrong, and I'm not breaking up with you, Innie. You might want to break up with me after I tell you everything, though,” you said, giving him your best smile. “You see, I haven't been completely honest with you.” You took a deep breath. It was better to rip the bandage right off. “I'm a witch, Jeongin.”
He stayed silent after that. His mouth was hanging slightly open, and his eyes were widening in shock. Translating his reaction as disgust, you began frantically apologizing. “I know how it sounds, and I'm sorry. I completely understand if you want to break-”
“Y/N.” His firm tone stopped your rambling. Now it was Jeongin's turn to take your hands so you would stop waving them around. “I don't want to break up. I don't care that you're a witch.” Jeongin looked down, with a barely-there pink dust covering his cheeks. He was feeling embarrassed, but you didn't know why. “Now that you mentioned it..." He let go of your hands in order to play with his rings, a nervous habit of his. You found it adorable at almost any given time, but now it was kind of scaring you. What could he possibly want to tell you that was worse than being a witch?
“I wasn't completely honest either. I'm actually a werefox,” Jeongin mumbled, taking his eyes off the floor to show you how they glowed yellow.
You let out a breath you didn't know you were holding. And then, face-to-face with the absurdity of the situation, you began to laugh. Jeongin gave you a confused look, but then the corners of his mouth were turning up, and soon he was laughing with you. You didn’t know what was so funny, and you were sure Jeongin was just as clueless, but that didn't stop you. You stood in the living room, looking at each other and laughing until your cheeks were sore.
“We're quite the couple, aren't we? A witch and a fox,” you managed to say in between fits of laughter.
Jeongin grinned even more, and his eyes turned into those adorable crescents. “Normal couples are boring anyway,” he replied, and you had to agree with him. In a world of magical beings, normal was overrated.
“Seungmin's been trying to get me to tell you for months. I'm glad you brought it up, because I wouldn't find the courage on my own,” he confessed when you calmed down enough to speak. You almost wanted to laugh again.
“He's been pestering me about the same,” you laughed. You and Jeongin exchanged a look. Damn Kim Seungmin, who was, yet again, right all along.

You were pacing from one side of the room to the other. Out of the corner of your eye you caught Felix's gaze. With your head down and a guilty look on your face, you stopped pacing and headed towards one of the chairs in the back of the room. You sat down and folded your hands in your lap, trying to stay calm. Your pacing around wasn't helping anybody, and Felix had already got up three times to direct you back to your chair. Now he was standing up for the fourth time, despite you already sitting. Quietly, as to not disturb the people working, he stalked over to you, taking the empty seat next to you. He threw one arm around you, bringing you to his side to comfort you.
“He's going to be okay,” he said. “It's Minho we're talking about. He always pulls through.” Felix gently rubbed your arm, minding the bandage on your bicep.
You slumped against his body. “I know, but I should be there with him. He hasn't gone solo in so long.” Your voice was laced with worry as you looked up to Felix, seeking reassurance in his face. “I just can't shake the thought that something happened and I'm not there to help him.” Felix only pulled you closer, resuming the gentle strokes on your arm.
You couldn’t help but worry. On your last mission, a bullet ended up in your arm. If anything, it was your fault because you weren’t cautious enough, but Minho still blamed himself. You could tell from the way he was on edge the whole way back to the base when you were bleeding and falling in and out of consciousness. And once you were properly taken care of, he didn't stop fussing over you for the whole week. And even though you were now healed enough to go back into the field, he refused to hear it. Just this morning, before Minho left, you fought over this exact mission.
“You're in no condition to go back out there!” Minho yelled.
You crossed your arms over your chest. “Seungmin cleared me three days ago, Minho! Three! I'm more than capable of being back in the action. And you need me. We're a team for god's sake!” You shot him an angry look. You would have thought he had more faith in you than that. You were partners; you never went on a mission without the other, even long before you got together. You knew you could trust him with everything you had, just as he could trust you. But now he was trying to stop you.
"Well, fuck me for caring about my partner's health,” Minho exclaimed, throwing up his arms. Then he ran his hand through his hair, letting out a frustrated groan. “Look, I just... I can't see you injured again. And I know that if you're there, I won't be able to focus on the mission, not completely,” he admitted.
All of the anger you had evaporated from your body. “Oh.” You thought he didn't trust you, but he was just worried. It was sweet, in a Minho-typical way. He wasn't very fond of expressing his emotions openly, so to hear how much he cares about you warmed your heart. “Okay. Just this once, though,” you agreed reluctantly, but you knew you didn't have an argument that could counter that.
Minho smiled in relief. “You'll be on the next one, I promise.”
“Don't die out there without me, okay?” you joked, but your words were much more serious than you allowed Minho to hear. Just because you were going to be benched for this one to ease his worry didn't mean yours didn't skyrocket.
“It's a simple scout, I'll be in and out before you know it,” Minho promised. He walked closer to you, giving you a quick kiss, before he went to gather his things for the mission.
Except Minho was wrong. What was supposed to be a quick mission was taking two hours more than it should have. The last you knew, Minho was stuck, hiding from the security because he had been discovered. You didn’t even have it in you to comment on how, with you, that would never happen. All that was on your mind right now was whether he was still alive. The tech team lost all communication with him exactly forty-two minutes ago. Yes, you counted. You had been in the monitoring room the whole time, and when they announced the loss of contact, you nearly flipped. Hence, Bang Chan sent Felix to watch you. And thank God for that, because if he hadn't stayed with you to calm and comfort you, you were positive you would rip somebody's head off. Minho was out there, all alone, and you had no way of knowing what was going on.
“Boss, we have a visual!” one of the IT guys suddenly shouted, and Bang Chan was at his side almost immediately. The guy quickly explained how he managed to hack the security cameras and provided everyone with an unsettling scene. Groups of armed guards were running around, clearly searching for someone.
You shot up from your seat so fast that Felix wasn't able to hold you back. In a second, you stood next to Chan, watching the cameras like a hawk. It didn't look good, you had to admit that. But if they were trying to find something, that meant Minho was okay, right?
“He's okay, I know it,” Chan mumbled when he saw you by his side. You smiled at him. He had no way of knowing it, but there was something comforting in hearing the words come from Chan himself. If the boss believed in Minho, then he had to be alright.
As if on cue, the sound of static came through the main radio, followed by a hoarse, unclear voice, but still disquintishable enough. “Stray base, do you copy? This is Lee Know, I'm on my way to you.”
The whole room let out a sigh of relief. You vaguely registered Chan snatching the radio to respond to Minho and Felix coming to hug you from behind. “See, I told you he'd be alright,” Felix hummed, a happy grin stretching across his face. You nodded, feeling yourself smile too. Minho was alive and on his way back to you, and that was all that mattered. You were so going to scold him for worrying you like that when he got back, though.

When you came home from work, the only thing on your mind was going to bed. Your shift ran later than expected due to some problems that needed to be fixed, and by the time you were finally allowed to head home, you were completely exhausted. You went through routine tasks such as putting away your keys and hanging your coat almost blindly, not wanting to be bothered to turn on the lights. However, it wasn't really dark in the apartment, as you soon realized. And there was sound coming from the living room.
Carefully, you walked to the source of the light and noise, all your tiredness replaced by caution, because what if that was an intruder? Your anxiety was soon alleviated by the fact that the sound was from your TV. What burglar would watch a movie, right? As you peaked inside the living room, you saw someone you would never expect here at this hour.
Lee Felix was sprawled over your couch, a half-empty bowl of popcorn laying next to him, and on the TV was playing a rerun of some comedy show. You shook your head, suppressing a laugh. When you gave him the key, it was so he could come meet you when he had time, because dating an idol was a time management nightmare. But now it seemed Felix used it to run away from the dorm and help himself to whichever snacks and entertainment your apartment provided.
He must have heard you, because he raised his head and waved at you to greet you. It was pointless to hide halfway in the hallway, so you headed to him. Felix immediately scooted over, making room for you on the couch.
As soon as you sat down, his arms enveloped you in a hug, with Felix pressing his nose into your hair and inhaling the familiar scent. You felt the faint touches of his lips soon, as well as the exhaustion creeping its way back into your body. You let yourself melt further into his arms, your body going completely limp against his. He answered with a content hum and a stronger hold on you. Felix adjusted his position slightly, so you would be more comfortable laying down.
“What are you doing here anyway? Don't you have an early schedule tomorrow?” you asked sleepily. Almost immediately after relaxing in the hug, you wanted to sleep. Felix was just a very comfortable and warm pillow that made you feel secure and loved. And paired with how tired you felt, it was the perfect recipe for a quick journey to dreamland. But you didn't want to sleep yet, not with Felix here.
Lately, you haven't seen him much, given how busy his schedule was towards the end of the year. A few times you woke up to Felix lying in bed with you, only to have a rushed breakfast because you both needed to work. But now that he was here, none of you were unconscious, and you were determined to make the most of it.
“I do, but I missed you,” Felix said. His head found its place on your shoulder, and he was now lazily mouthing at a spot on your neck. There wasn't anything sexual behind it; he just liked feeling close to you. It was a way for Felix to show you how much he loved you. “I wanted to come see you. It's been so long since we had time for each other,” he confessed with a sad undertone in his voice. You didn’t say anything, but he knew you felt the same. You missed him too, but it didn't need to be said out loud. Felix knew.
You snuggled further into his chest. "Well, now you're here, and I'm not letting you go anywhere,” you decided. Your gaze fell on the TV. Much to your dismay, you had to untangle yourself from him in order to get the remote. Your action was met with a soft whine from Felix, soon replaced by a happy sigh as you settled yourself back into his arms, now in possession of the remote. You lazily switched through the channels until you found a half-decent movie to watch. It was the most passable compensation for the fact that you both should be in bed and sleeping. Staying on the couch and slowly dozing off when the movie became boring was just another way of resting together, you thought.
When you woke up in the morning, it was to Felix's alarm that was blasting through the apartment at a volume that, in your opinion, not even an emergency siren would. Startled and confused, you opened your eyes to find yourself in the living room, with a certain idol wrapped around like a koala. How you managed not to fall off the couch while you slept was beyond your understanding. Some higher being probably decided to take mercy on you.
“Lix, baby, wake up.” You gently nudged him, but all you got was a groan in response and Felix pressing himself even closer to you. With a laugh, you tried again, and eventually you managed to get him awake enough to function like a normal human being.
While you were in the kitchen preparing breakfast a few minutes later, Felix came to join you, already changed into new clothes and ready for the day. He hugged you from behind, just like last night, still not quite ready to give up the peaceful atmosphere. With a smile on your face, you let Felix hang off of you as you prepared the food. These stolen moments were all you had for now, but a break in his schedule was coming, which meant moments like these were only going to get more frequent.

Tumblr media
You were only half listening to the conversation between Felix and Minho. Too busy looking at everyone who came through the door, you searched for him. Hwang Hyunjin. A transfer student that joined your dance school at the beginning of the year, and ever since you first saw him walk into the class, your mind wouldn't let him go. The best words to describe Hyunjin would be out of this world. He was beautiful, everybody with eyes could see that. But his looks were a mere part of his charm. He was kind, smart, and a talented dancer. He always knew what to say to make you feel better when you messed up the choreography. He showed interest in the same things as you, which resulted in the two of you becoming friends quickly. Catching feelings was just another inevitable step in your relationship. And that's where the problems first arose.
While you were head over heels for him, Hyunjin never showed interest. He would take you out but then claim it was a friendly outing. He would ask for your help on assignments, bring you chocolate as a thank you, and then say that's what friends do. Bring you flowers because they reminded him of you, but bring them to someone else the next day. Every time he would get your hopes up, only to break your heart a bit more the next second.
Until The Incident that occurred at the Halloween party Bang Chan organized, Minho got you all an invite because Chan was his 'very close friend’, as he phrased it. You and Felix were excited because Bang Chan's parties were legendary and only carefully selected people were invited. Meanwhile, Hyunjin took it as an opportunity to get completely wasted. And then The Incident happened.
As the evening progressed, somehow you found yourself on the dance floor with Hyunjin. You were dancing together, both heavily intoxicated, with Hyunjin's arm around your waist, pressing your back against his chest. He was mumbling lyrics to the song into your ear, and when you looked up at him, the heat of the moment took over him. It took just a second of looking into each other's eyes for him to crash his lips into yours, kissing you hungrily, like it was the last time he was allowed to. His lips were soft and gentle when they touched yours, but there was a certain want, or maybe even need, behind it. He tasted like vodka and strawberries, and to you, it was the most heavenly combination.
“Let's go somewhere else,” Hyunjin whispered into your lips, pulling away. You made a little sound to protest it, but Hyunjin quickly shut it with another kiss. He slipped his hand into yours and began leading you away from the dance floor. He walked you to the stairs, sneaking up to the second floor of Chan's house.
Once you were alone in the hallway, he didn't even bother finding a room. Instead, he reached for your other hand, intertwining your fingers together and pressing you to the nearest wall, pinning your hands on either side of your head. Hyunjin looked at you, his eyes glistening with desire, and you felt your body tense in anticipation. Hyunjin licked his lips and leaned down, capturing your mouth again. You parted your lips for him, sighing when you felt his tongue slip in.
“Shouldn't we move… somewhere… somewhere private?” you asked between kisses. But before he had a chance to answer, or do anything else, for that matter, an unknown force pulled him back and away from you. You wanted to protest against the disruption, but your words quickly died in your throat when you met the eyes of a very angry Minho.
Feeling embarrassed, you let your hands fall down to your sides, sheepishly looking up at Minho. And Bang Chan, who was holding Hyuniin by his shirt, was most likely the one who pulled him off of you.
“What the fuck do you think you're doing?” Minho spat out, crossing his arms on his chest.
“You're one to talk,” you muttered, nodding towards Minho's unbuttoned shirt. You watched the tips of his ears go red and felt a sense of victory for a second, but Minho didn't let the sudden shyness show in his demeanor in the slightest.
“I'm not talking to you.” He turned back to Hyunjin, who was squirming in Chan's hold. “Get out, Hwang. And don't talk to any one of us until you've sobered up,” he said coldly, glaring daggers at the young dancer. He waved his hand as a signal for Chan to let Hyunjin go. As soon as he was free, he didn't waste a second, and he scurried away.
You slumped against the wall, your brain only now catching up with reality. You and Hyunjin were dancing, then making out, and then… Minho and Chan. As if from a distance you heard Minho say something to Chan, who smiled in understanding, and... did he just kiss Minho's cheek or was your mind just playing tricks on you? Nonetheless, he left you alone.
Minho was immediately by your side and gently guided you to sit down on the floor with him. “Are you okay?” he asked softly. All the anger in his voice had disappeared, and his eyes were full of worry. He placed a reassuring hand around your shoulders and let your body fall against his.
“Yeah. Yeah, I think so. Hyunjin kissed me…” It was half a question, half a statement. You still couldn't fully comprehend what happened, and the alcohol wasn't helping. Hyunjin had kissed you. That was something you waited ages for to happen, so why was Minho so worried? But it was Minho, so he probably had a good reason, even if your brain couldn't understand it. Still, he could have let you enjoy it for a moment longer, you thought bitterly.
“Hey, let me take you home, okay?” Minho said, bringing you out of your dreamy state again. You only silently nodded, and he gently helped you stand up, immediately wrapping a hand around your waist to steady you. You gave a weak but grateful smile, and he began leading you out.
The next day, you woke up with your body aching. Your head was spinning, and the memories from last night were slowly coming to you. Bang Chan’s party, Minho yelling at Hyunjin... Oh god. Hyunjin. He kissed you. That was one of those moments you couldn’t forget, no matter how drunk you were. Closing your eyes, you pictured the memory again. The feeling of Hyunjin's soft, plump lips on yours, the way his hand tangled into your hair on the dancefloor...
That was it; you decided. You were going to tell Hyunjin how you felt, and you were going to do it tomorrow (because, frankly, you couldn’t be bothered to do anything besides dealing with a hangover today). What was there to lose, anyway? If anything, last night was a confirmation of at least some attraction to you. He wouldn’t have kissed you otherwise, would he?
Fast forward to today; you were on your way to class, determined to tell Hyunjin. And there he was, standing next to Felix, who was in the middle of explaining something to him. As you were getting closer, you caught words like party and alcohol. It was worth noting that both of them went completely silent the moment they saw you. Strange.
“Hyunjin, can we talk?” you said as you approached them. Hyunjin shot a nervous look in Felix’s direction, but he followed you into the hall. “I’ve wanted to talk about…”
“About the party,” Hyunjin finished your sentence. “I know. I actually wanted to talk to you about the same thing. Minho spent the whole of yesterday screaming at me over the phone about something with you. Look, I just wanted to apologize for whatever I did. Minho made it sound like I really hurt you.”
You were rooted to the spot, your mouth hanging slightly open in disbelief. He didn’t remember. You wanted to cry, scream, or punch something. You actually weren’t sure which one it was. maybe all three. But now was not the time for any of those things. “No, no it’s… fine. Minho probably just overreacted,” you heard yourself saying.
Hyunjin smiled at you. “I’m glad- Hey are you okay? You look like you’re going to throw up,” he asked, noticing your poor state. You shook your head, suddenly not wanting to deal with him anymore.
“I think I’m still sick after the alcohol. I better go home,” you murmured. Without bothering to wait for any sort of response, you turned on your heel and began walking out, ignoring Hyunjin’s feel-better wishes. Once you were safely on the street with nobody around, only then did you let your tears fall down your cheeks freely.

"Fuck!” Minho yelled, ducking back behind the wall. He gripped his gun tighter, pressing as much of his body into the wall as he could. He looked to the side, where you were in a very similar position. He immediately noticed the grimace on your face. “Are you hurt?” he whispered, looking at your hand that was pressing on your other arm unusually strongly.
You swallowed a curse and shook your head. Minho shrugged and didn't question it further, deciding to check how many bullets he had left.
Once he turned his head away, you let out something between a sigh and a moan. Your arm was on fire, and Minho couldn't know. He would worry too much, and you wouldn't complete your mission. You had to just suck it up and not let him know you were injured. Which was easier said than done when there was a bullet in your upper arm, but you would manage. You had worse injuries. After making sure Minho was busy, you checked your bullets too, hoping you didn't smear too much blood over the gun.
Next to you, Minho stood up again, firing back at your opponents. You joined him, and after a successful hit that incapacitated two of their shooters, you saw a chance to run. And Minho did too. He looked around for any snipers, but it seemed nobody was there. “Let's go before they start again,” he said, grabbing your arm and dragging you away, retreating to an empty office building nearby. You had to bite the inside of your cheek to not cry out in pain because his hand wrapped around your arm exactly in the place where the bullet was. You couldn’t hold a pain hiss, but you convinced Minho that he just grabbed you too strongly. He loosened his grip but kept his hold on you. You knew he just wanted to make sure you were with him and that he hadn't lost you when you were running, but your anxiety worsened with every second. You prayed to everyone who would listen to not let him discover the wound.
Once you were inside, he let go of you, and you sighed in relief, both at the pressure being gone and at being safe. Or, as safe as an agent hiding from their enemies can be. Minho eventually turned on his flashlight as he led you further into the building to the basement. It wasn't accidental that he chose this specific building. One of the many tunnels had an entrance in the boiler room. You stayed close to Minho, covering him from behind, your uninjured hand ready to pull out your gun at any moment.
Inside the boiler room, Minho locked the door behind you, letting his guard down a little. He hid his flashlight and turned on the light in the room. And then he froze, looking at his hand. You looked over to see what happened, and your whole body tensed. On his palm, there was a smear of red. Minho turned his head toward you.
“They got you, didn't they?” he asked, phrasing it more as a statement than a question. You knew there was no point in denying it now, not when there was clear evidence all over his hands.
You nodded. “In the crossfire. I didn't duck fast enough,” you murmured. “But it's fine, it's not even bleeding that-”
“Sit.” Minho pointed to an iron table pushed next to the wall. The room was old and no longer in use, so the agents brought in several things, such as medical equipment, weapons, spare gear, and all other sorts of things, using it as storage for everything they might need when using the tunnels. You rolled your eyes; you were perfectly fine to make it back to the base, where you could get proper medical care. But you knew that arguing with Minho was pointless, so you hopped on the table, waiting for him to find what he needed.
As your center of gravity moved, though, your head spinned. Oh. Maybe the wound was worse than it seemed. Minho came back soon, setting a few bandages and a bottle of alcohol next to you. He carefully took off your jacket, exposing your arm. Blood was smeared everywhere, drying with sweat mixed into it. Out of the darker spot, fresh blood was coming out, but there was less of it than before. Minho took a good look at it, cursing under his breath. He was running high on adrenaline and worry, but he still touched you with the utmost gentleness, being very careful with your arm.
“I need to get that out,” he decided. “It will hurt like a bitch, but I can't have you bleeding out on the way back to the base.” You knew he was right, though you were pretty sure you wouldn't bleed out. Either way, more blood loss only meant more complications. Minho reached for the bottle of alcohol, pouring a bit of it on the surgical forceps he found in the medical supplies kept in here. “I'm sorry,” he said, and then, without a warning, he poured at least half of the bottle onto your arm. Unprepared, you cried out, immediately covering your mouth with your other hand. You were safely locked in here, but the other agents could be scouting the building, and you couldn't let them discover the tunnels. Biting on your fist to keep yourself from making any sounds, you let Minho carefully take out the bullet stuck in your arm. He was as gentle as he could, but it still hurt. Closing your eyes, you let him work, focusing on your breathing to keep yourself occupied.
“It's done,” Minho announced after a while, finishing wrapping a bandage around your arm. He wiped his hands on his trousers, then looked at you, cupping your cheek with his hand to swipe his thumb over the single tear falling down your cheek. You let your head fall forward on his shoulder. Minho let you stay like that for a moment, but then he helped you back down on your feet. You still had a long way to the base, and you weren’t safe here.
You found it sweet, the way he worried about you. It was sometimes dangerous out in the field because Minho would drop everything the moment you were in life-threatening danger, but it also made you stronger as a team because you knew you could trust him with your life.
He pressed a quick kiss on your temple. “You'll be okay. Let's get you back to the base where Seungmin can take care of you properly,” he said, placing one hand on the small of your back to support you, ready to catch you if you fell. Together, you made your way towards the entrance to the tunnels.

Soulmates were something you never really believed in. Everybody had one, and the majority of people dedicated a good part of their lives to finding theirs. You thought the whole soulmate thing was kind of stupid. Because even though one had a soulmate, it didn't mean they were going to be with them for the rest of their lives. A friend of yours decided not to search for their soulmate when they received the mark on their twentieth birthday, saying they were happy in their current relationship. And their partner chose the same when their time for the soulmark came. On the other hand, you watched another friend move across the world because of a soulmate, so you weren’t really sure what to make out of the situation, except for the fact that, in the end, soulmates are kind of stupid. Everyone told you to wait for your own soulmate, because then you would understand. But no matter what they said, the idea of having the universe choose a partner for you didn't sit right with you.
And until your birthday, that was indeed the opinion you followed. But when you woke up with the soulmark adorning your right wrist, something inside you changed. Maybe it was because you could finally feel the inner desire of your soul to be met with their destined other half, but you felt this strange urge to meet your soulmate.
“Stupid tattoo,” you mumbled, raising your hands to rub your eyes. As your vision cleared, you caught sight of the black ink imprinted into your skin. A heart made out of thorns. The same tattoo Jeongin showed your friend group not so long ago. “Fuck.” With a groan, you collapsed back into bed again.
When you finally made it out of bed and made yourself look presentable, you called Jeongin immediately. You refused to tell him what was going on over the phone, reducing the situation to a simple “We have a problem.” So now you were making tea, waiting for Jeongin to show up at your apartment. And he indeed came at a Jeongin-accurate time, which was exactly seven minutes after what you agreed on.
Jeongin came in, his trademark grin on his face. After a quick greeting, he sat down at the table, giving you a grateful smile when you slid one of the cups of tea towards him. He took a sip, but his eyes never left your face. How he managed to do it without spilling the liquor was beyond you, but that thought got quickly pushed to the side by another.
You didn't know whether it was the soulmate bond trying its hardest to convince you or you just never truly paid attention, but until now, you never realized how beautiful Jeongin was. His sharp, defined jaw, in contrast with his soft smile and dark eyes that lit up whenever he got excited, created the unique human being in front of you, completed by messy, washed-out-pink hair. His cute looks were definitely a part of his boyish charm, though you knew that if he wanted to, he could be the sexiest man on Earth. His duality was just insane, and you didn't know why you didn't see it sooner.
Jeongin cleared his throat to get your attention. “So what exactly happened?” he asked, tilting his head to the side like he always did when he was confused.
“Yeah, um, sorry,” you murmed, forcing your eyes to stare at your cup of tea, hoping to hide the embarrassment of getting caught staring. “Right, so you know how I was supposed to get my soulmark today,” you said, shyly looking up to see Jeongin's reaction. “Well, that's what happened.” You rolled up your sleeve and extended your arm across the table.
Jeongin's eyes went wide, staring at the heart. After a few seconds of silence, his eyes flew up to your face, then back to the soulmark again. He raised his left arm, showing his wrist to you. An identical heart was there; you both already knew it. But Jeongin needed to see them together to truly convince himself that this was reality. “You're not kidding, are you?” He asked, inspecting your soulmarks, even though it was crystal clear that those hearts were exactly the same. You shook your head and watched Jeongin's lips stretch into a happy smile at your words.
He gently grabbed your hand, intertwining your fingers in a tight grasp and pressing the soulmarks together. Your hands fit together like pieces of a puzzle, soulmarks perfectly alining. Quite literally, you were destined to be.
At the contact between his skin and yours, something went off inside your chest. Your heart was suddenly flooded with this warm feeling. It wasn't quite happiness, more so a sense of home and belonging somewhere. Belonging with Jeongin. Your soul found its other half, and suddenly it felt like finding something you never knew you had lost. It was beautiful. And judging by his expression, Jeongin felt exactly the same.
Everyone was right after all. Maybe the soulmate magic wasn't so stupid, you thought to yourself later that day when you laid on the couch, cuddled up to your soulmate's side. Maybe this whole thing is actually kind of awesome because it gave you someone like Jeongin.

You let Jisung silently pour more of whatever he was drinking - you weren’t really sure - into your cup. He had his own recipe for mixing drinks that he refused to tell anyone. You didn’t really care anyway, because it tasted good and got you into the right mood without making you feel too drunk too soon. Besides, your mind was occupied by something else, or rather, someone else. From your spot, where you were leaning on the wall next to the door to the kitchen, you had a clear view of Hwang Hyunjin chatting up a cute freckled blonde. You recalled that his name was Felix, and he was in a few of Jisung's classes. And like any other person on campus, not even he was able to resist Hyunjin's spell. You watched Felix blush and hide his face behind his hands. Hyunjin pryed them away with a familiar glint in his eyes. You smirked at how easily Felix fell for Hyunjin's magic, but a part of you felt pity for the boy. After all, you were once in a very similar place to where he is now.
When you and Hyunjin began to date, it was the event of the year. Hyunjin, desired by so many, somehow ended up falling for you. You would be lying if you said you weren’t in love from the moment you spoke to him for the first time, so to find out your feelings were returned was nothing short of ecstatic. Dating Hyunjin felt like a dream come true. He was attentive and affectionate, but he gave you your space. He was the perfect textbook boyfriend, until he wasn't. He began staying in the library until it closed. He began spending more and more time on homework, and your weekly “small dates," where you would just be together, go to a coffee shop, or watch a movie, turned into a monthly occasion. Classes and school corridors were where you met 90% of the time now. And you understood; of course you did. Hyunjin was having a rough time with his classes, and you did your best to support him, but it wasn't enough. No matter how both of you tried, it wasn't enough to sustain a healthy and functional relationship.
You agreed to remain friends, though that was not the reality. Soon after the breakup, Hyunjin distanced himself. You gave him his space, thinking he needed to get over the whole thing. You needed it too, after all. Nonetheless, months passed and nothing changed. Until Hyunjin began his series of hookups. Every party, every event, every social gathering with you present, he found someone new. Someone to take home and never talk to again.
At first, it hurt. Your feelings for Hyunjin never changed, no matter how many times you tried telling yourself it was for the best. You and Hyunjin simply didn't work out; that was how life worked. In a few attempts to forget, you brought home people too, but they could never replace him. So you just stopped trying. Soon, the anger and sadness turned into apathy. You pushed your feelings to the deepest pit of your heart, locking them there. You would get over him eventually, and until then, the feelings would stay there, hidden from everyone.
You averted your eyes from Hyunjin and Felix, who were now making out on the couch, and focused your attention back on Jisung instead, who was waving at you to tell you your drink was ready.
To your pleasure, you didn't run into Hyuniin for most of the night. When you went outside to get some fresh air, though, you soon found yourself in the company of one tall, raven-haired dancer. You looked at Hyunjin through the corner of your eye, begging your brain to not do anything stupid. You hadn't had that much to drink, but you were always kind of lightweight, so the outcome of this situation was up to fate.
“So you're into blondes now?” you asked, doing your best to keep a friendly, teasing tone in an effort to not make it awkward. And speaking to Hyunjin with the same attitude you used to have back when you were together made it easier for you. It allowed you to pretend that, just for a moment, things were normal between you two again.
Hyunjin rolled his eyes. “I've always liked blondes. And he's cute,” he shrugged. His eyes found you and scanned your whole figure. “Can't compare to you, though, sweetheart. None of them could.” Hyunjin kept his eyes on you, looking like a dumb schoolboy with a crush. It was kind of adorable, the way his eyes sparkled with something unknown only you made him feel.
And while Hyunjin didn't seem to realize what he said yet, you were completely taken aback. “You don't mean that,” you said, in a pathetic attempt to keep your feelings safely locked away. Maybe if you convinced him, you would also convince your already raging heart.
He looked at you properly, eye-to-eye. His gaze darkened and lost all its sparkles. His hair was falling out of the complicated hairstyle and into his face, making him look straight out of a drama. The darkness around you, paired with the dim lights from the party, created shadows in all the right places on his face, accentuating his beauty even more than usual.
Hyunjin shook his head. “All of them, I just wanted to forget. Because I still… Fuck.” Hyunjin ran a hand through his hair. “I'm drunk, but I need to tell you because I can't keep pretending. I can't keep bringing them home when all I can think about is you.”
You stood there, silent. You knew he meant every word, even if he was drunk. Hyunjin was an honest person, and no amount of alcohol changed that. You were on edge. Your feelings were returned, and it took all your willpower to not jump at him and kiss him. But you were here before. You tried and you failed, and you knew you couldn’t go through that a second time.
As your heart and brain were fighting over the decision, you found yourself saying: “Yeah, me too.” You sighed, looking away from Hyunjin before you could do something reckless. But life was about risks, so maybe now was the time to throw caution in the wind.
Leaning closer to Hyunjin, you asked: “Can I kiss you?” And when he nodded, you surged forward, not caring about anything else. You will see what the future brings. Good or bad, you'll deal with it all somehow. For now, you will just enjoy the feeling of Hyunjin being yours again.

Yang Jeongin was never the one to be open with his feelings. He wasn't like Chan, who flirted his way through to everybody. Not like Minho, who was always straightforward with his crushes, telling them how he felt with confidence. He wasn't like Felix, who made people fall in love just with his smile. And he wasn't like Hyunjin, who turned into a complete mess whenever he found himself in close proximity to his crushes. Still, he somehow charmed them into dating him. No, Jeongin was nothing like them. He preferred to stay in the shadows and admire his crush from afar.
And this time around, it was no different. When Jeongin realized he thought of you differently than everyone else, he simply stopped at that. He didn’t make a move or tell anyone. He was content to just make up silly scenarios with you in his head before he went to sleep. To think of you as a dream, an unreachable desire. Just like he did with all of his crushes, until they eventually passed and he moved on.
But despite his best efforts, something changed this time. Maybe it was because, unlike his previous crushes, you two were already friends. But one thing was for sure: You weren’t an ordinary crush. You were something that ran much deeper.
When Jeongin pictured your smile, it made him feel something. He felt the urge to smile whenever you looked at him. The way you said his name sent butterflies into his stomach. When he was in your presence, he felt so free and happy. You were it for him, he realized one night, when he was hopelessly dreaming about you again. Jeongin didn't believe in soulmates, but if he did, he was sure you would be his.
Yet he didn't do anything. He stayed close to you. He accepted your hugs with much less resistance. He made the effort to hang out more often. But he kept silent, loving you from the safety of his bedroom, not letting the world know.
Until he couldn't anymore. So he did what everyone would do. He went to Felix, the resident romantic in your group.
Which is why, two months later, you found yourself with yet another letter. You didn’t know how it began or who was behind it, but at the beginning of every week, you found a letter at your door. They weren’t long, usually just cute little notes about you. Your secret admirer would tell you compliments phrased like lines out of a poetry book. They congratulated you on your achievements and gave you reminders of how well you were doing when something didn't work out the way you wanted. It should be creepy, the way this stranger seemed to know everything about you, every little detail from your personal life as well. They even knew where you lived. But you couldn’t bring yourself to care. Somehow, your heart knew that the admirer was harmless. They would never abuse their knowledge of you. Seungmin thought you should be checked by a psychiatrist, but nobody paid attention to his comments. “He's just jealous because nobody sends him letters,” Felix once said, exchanging a knowing look with Jeongin. Seungmin rolled his eyes at that, looking strangely smug, as if he had just uncovered a mystery. Either way, his remarks on that topic stopped after that.
It didn't change the fact that you still didn't know who gave you the letters. They never left a name, only a drawing of a dandelion. At first, you thought it was a prank, so made all your friends draw you a dandelion, but none of it matched. Another time you tried to stay up and spy on whoever would come in the night to give you a new letter. Four times, you stayed with Felix, who generously volunteered to help you. Sometimes you thought he was more interested in uncovering your secret admirer than you, with how eagerly he helped with finding clues. But despite your joined forces, they always slipped right through your fingers. Only once did you catch sight of a black hoodie running away, but that didn't help in the slightest. It could have been anybody.
Until today. Even before you received the letter, you could sense something was about to change. And you were correct. For starters, today's letter was accompanied by a real dandelion, as they just started to grow. And not only that. Besides the usual notes, there was a request.
I think I'm finally ready to tell you who I am. If you wish to find out, follow the dandelion trail. I'll be waiting.
Confused, you stepped out into the street. And there was, in fact, a dandelion trail. Flowers were taped to walls and streetlights, showing you the way to your admirer. Ignoring the way your heart giddily fluttered at the thought of uncovering the person, you quickly grabbed the necessities and set out on a hunt. It was kind of like some cliché romantic comedy, but you had to admit it was kind of cute. The flowers led you to a nearby park. After a bit of searching, you found a figure clad in the same black hoodie you saw that one night. They stood with their backs to you.
“Hi,” a soft voice said. How the hell did they know you were here? There was no time for questions because the strange voice spoke again. “I've liked you for quite a while, but I never found the courage to tell you. Until now.”
With a hitch of your breath, you realized you knew that voice. The gentle way he spoke, the slight accent, the unique tone. But that couldn’t have been...
Suddenly the hood dropped down, and you saw a very familiar hair colour. The stranger slowly turned around, holding a dandelion crown in his hands and a stupidly adorable smile on his face.
“Jeongin,” you breathed out.
He smiled, pink dusting his cheeks and ears. “I know it was cliché, but I needed to build up the courage,” he confessed with a sheepish smile. He extended his arms towards you, offering you the crown. “What do you say? Be mine?”
For a moment, you stood there silent, completely taken aback. Where was all his confidence coming from? A part of your brain was still coming to terms that your admirer was Jeongin, leaving no room to process that Jeongin, whom you yourself had a small crush on, was the secret admirer who also managed to become your crush.
“Sorry, this is all sort of overwhelming. I think I need a minute,” you admitted. Jeongin's shoulders slumped. Before he could run away like you knew he would, you stopped him. “But I like you too. That I don't need to think about.”
Watching his face light up was the most beautiful thing you ever saw. Laughing at the romantic silliness of the whole scene and because you were just genuinely happy, you let Jeongin put the flower crown on your head.

Minho propped his head on his hand and looked out of the window. He wasn't really watching nature outside the train window; it just served as a distraction. And a cover, so the other people sitting around him won't see his face, even though it's covered by a mask. His deep brown boba eyes weren't, and that eyes are the windows to the soul was a saying for a reason. Especially for Minho. Many people have told him that despite his mysteriously closed-off attitude, his eyes have always betrayed him, telling his deepest secrets to the world.
And especially now, he didn't particularly feel the need to spill his heart to the unknown woman sitting opposite him. Not that she would notice, given the fact that she had been arguing over the phone for the past twenty minutes, but it was better to be safe than sorry. His thoughts were in dangerous territory. As they always did for the past few months, they wandered to you. Minho hadn't seen you for almost a year. The last time you two saw each other was last summer, when you took advantage of the summer break to go on a late August vacation with your whole friend group. Then your lives kicked off; you became busy with your university work, and Minho didn't even make it to Jisung's birthday before his company sent him off to dance for some idol group on tour. But now the tour was finishing, and Minho was on his way back to Seoul. He wasn't supposed to be back for another week, but he made a deal with the company. His best friend Chan was getting married, and Minho planned to surprise him.
But because Chan was also your friend, it meant you would be there too. And here was the core problem. In the time spent around the world and being able to exchange only a few texts a day, often with multiple-hour delays, Minho realized something. Minho realized that he was a complete idiot for what he did back in August. He pondered over the conversation you had the last night of your vacation many times. When it got late and he was in his hotel room, unable to sleep, his mind found its way towards that specific moment, replaying every second of it so vividly that it felt like watching a movie. And with every replay, Minho began slowly realizing something important.
He remembered how you pulled him aside that day, telling him to come meet you outside the beachhouse you and friends rented. He remembered standing there while you went to put on something warmer than a tank top. You walked barefoot alongside the beach, the waves occasionally splashing your ankles. Minho remembered how the stars shone brightly above your heads, mirrored in your eyes. It was romantic, Minho recalled. The breeze had been playing with your hair as you stopped and turned to face him. And then you told him. You confessed with tears in the corners of your eyes, telling him about all the heavy feelings you had harbored since March. You told him how it would be fine if he rejected you, but you just needed to get it off your chest because it was killing you on the inside to have him so close yet so out of reach.
And Minho, being the fool he was, said no. He said he was flattered but didn't feel the same. He only saw you as a friend. You nodded. Minho reached to wipe the tears from your cheeks with his thumbs, and you smiled at him. You told him it was okay, you understood. You would just need a little time to allow your heart to get over it as well. Reaching forward, you pressed a light kiss to his cheek and began walking back to the house, leaving Minho on the moonlit beach alone. When he woke up the next morning, you were gone. And that was the last time he saw you. He gave you time, like he promised, and then he left for the tour.
Sometime after two months of touring, you began texting like you used to, but Minho could sense something had shifted. As a matter of fact, it took him several more months to realize what, but he knew it from the start. He got too used to the fact that, in his life, you were a constant. You never left, not even after a few particularly nasty fights. In the end, you were there. Everywhere. Always. So being away from you made him realize just how much he missed you. And not only that. In the lonely, sleepless nights, he had room to think. And he did indeed. He thought about you, what you were doing, or how you were feeling. He thought about how dear you were to him and that he wouldn't know what to do if he lost you. He thought about what his heart did at the mention of your name. He thought about what your texts made him feel. And he came to the conclusion that he was completely, utterly fucked.
Because he was in love with you. He was in love with you for the whole duration of the tour. He was in love with you even back then, in August. He was just too stupid to realize it then.
But now he was going to fix it. He was going to surprise you, spill his heart, and hope you haven't moved on yet. He had watched your Instagram almost obsessively, and you haven't posted anything about a new partner. That hope was what got him through the tour, because as soon as he realized it, he was really close to just packing his things and leaving right there and then. He wanted to tell you in person because you didn't deserve anything less, and he wanted to do it soon.
When Minho arrived at the venue, he went to greet Chan and his friends but avoided you at all costs. As soon as reception began, though, he immediately began searching for you. When he found you, he had to remind himself to stay calm. You hugged, exchanged a few sentences about how you were, and then he came. An unknown man holding two drinks joined you, giving one of them to you. You smiled as a thank-you and said the words that shattered Minho's world. “Oh, Min. Meet Gunil, my boyfriend.”
It took all of Minho's willpower to smile, bow, and shake Gunil's hand before he excused himself. He knew this was his fault. He couldn't blame you for moving on and for finding someone who was there when he couldn't. He cared too much about you to do that. He was the one who was late, and now he had to suffer the consequences. He found himself at the bar, a drink in hand. He downed it in one go and, with a raspy voice, asked the bartender, Seonghwa, according to the name tag, for another one. He didn't ask questions; he simply filled Minho's glass again. And again. Until Minho had too much to drink and the bartender had to take him out for some fresh air.
As Seonghwa led him outside, Minho caught a glimpse of you on the dance floor in Gunil's arms, head thrown back in laughter as your boyfriend spun you around. A part of Minho felt happy for you. Another part of him wished he would find someone to pick up the pieces of his broken heart, just like Gunil did for you.

You threw your bag on the floor, not really caring where it was going to land. You rolled up your sleeves and made sure your hair was out of your face before you walked towards one of the barres in the dance studio. You and the dance team were going to take some promo photos for your Instagram, so naturally, as the captain, you offered to come early and set everything up. Hyunjin and Felix, two of your teammates, were supposed to arrive soon to help you move everything, but you decided you could start on your own.
You prepared the background and removed all unnecessary objects that would get in the way and pose as a distraction in the photos. Then you took out your own decorations and began carefully placing them around the scene to create the illusion of a frequently used place. You were sure the photographer would move at least a half of them because he was an annoying perfectionistic dick, but you needed to keep yourself busy somehow. It was better than just idly sitting and waiting for one of the guys to show up to help you move the heavy stuff.
But now everything you could do was prepared, and Hyunjin and Felix were still nowhere in sight. You were sitting on the spot of the photographer, trying to see if anything could be altered to look better or be pushed out of the way before the equipment was moved to its correct place. As you began to feel frustrated with the two dancers, you got up and walked over to your bag, digging through it to find your phone. A new message awaited you.
Hyunjin
got lost buying coffee. me & lix will be there in 20!!
Me
hurry up!!
Shaking your head, you pocketed your phone. Trust Hyunjin to get lost at the most inconvenient times. You would bet anything that that wasn't even the real reason; Hyunjin could find the way to the studio blindfolded, given how much time he spent here. The more plausible reason was that the two dumbasses simply forgot, and Hyunjin was trying to cover their asses.
Well, the reason wasn't important. More importantly, the photographer would be here soon to set up his equipment, and the barres still needed to be moved. “How heavy can it be, right?” you murmured to yourself and wrapped your hands around one end of the barre. You managed to lift it up just fine, but the other end was still on the ground due to the barre's length. You tried to drag it across the floor, and to your surprise, it moved, but once you heard the ugly screech the floor made, you dropped the bar with a thud. It was not worth damaging the floor.
“Do you want help?” someone said as they walked through the door. A relief washed over you, thinking it was Hyunjin at first, but then you realized the voice and tone didn't match. As you turned around, the relief quickly turned to annoyance because the photographer had arrived.
Kim Seungmin, also known as the pain in your ass. He had been working with you for close to two years now. You weren’t sure how he even got the job in the first place, but you assumed it was Felix's doing since the two were friends. But Seungmin was good, so you kept him around. Much to your dismay, it was always Seungmin's photos and videos that went viral on social media. As a photographer, he was simply amazing, but as a person, not so much, despite everything Felix tried to convince you otherwise. Seungmin was always brutally honest, always had some witty remarks, and wasn't afraid to speak his mind. He would make jokes about anyone and anything. You weren’t an exception to his humor. When he committed to a vision, no one could tell him anything. His attitude made you lose your mind at times. He was an organized rule-follower, but at the same time so carefree, energetic, and just himself. You had to admire that about him. He didn’t care about anything, which was something you secretly envied. You were always too quick to crumble under the judgment of other people, another reason why his jokes affected you so much.
“I'm fine,” you spat out, turning your back to him again. “You can set up over there.” You pointed towards the empty spot close to the window, chosen carefully for natural light. You heard Seungmin scoff, but he did go set down his camera and other things he had brought. You heard footsteps, and then his face was back in your field of vision.
He got rid of his jacket, standing there in a simple t-shirt. He was never the one to dress up, preferring casual clothing, but he had this personal style that looked good on him. You had seen him dressed formally at events, but you liked this Seungmin much more. He looked more relaxed, more like himself. It was this soft style that enhanced his natural beauty the most. That was another thing you would never say to him. So what? You were allowed to think he's pretty while also thinking he's annoying, were you not?
Seungmin grabbed the other end of the barre. “Come on, on three.” He counted it, and together you lifted it up and carried it where it needed to be. You repeated the process with the other barre as well. What surprised you was that for the whole time, Seungmin hadn't uttered any wannabe funny jokes. That was unusual for him. But you could come back to that later. The costumes still needed to be brought in. You went to the hall to find the storage. As you entered the cramped room just down the hall, you spotted the box you needed right on the top shelf. “Perfect,” you muttered under your breath and stood on your toes, trying to reach the box. You managed to somehow wiggle it closer to the edge, and you were praying it wouldn't fall on your head.
Suddenly, you were pushed out of the way. “Wait, let me,” Seungmin said, effortlessly taking the box down. “Anything else?” Stunned, you wordlessly pointed to a smaller box, funnily enough also on top. With his height, Seungmin had no trouble reaching that one either. He placed the box on top of the first one, and before you could say anything, he carried both boxes back outside to where you were going to do the shoot, leaving you alone in the storage closet. You locked it up quickly, and you ran after him. You caught up to him just as he was setting the boxes down in the corner.
“Why are you suddenly nice to me?” you asked, leaning on the door frame. You were confused. Normally, Seungmin would take the piss out of you for your poor planning. But so far, he has been nothing but helpful and kind. “Are you feeling sick?” you added after a few seconds, feeling brave.
“What do you mean?”
You shrugged. “I don't know. Usually, you'd make fun of me. Tell some stupid joke.” You watched carefully his reaction. His body tensed up but then relaxed again. There's something defeated about his attitude now.
Seungmin ran a hand through his bangs. "The truth is, I was trying to get your attention. Clearly, that didn't work,” he mumbled, all of his usual confidence and ease gone.
Oh.
“Well, I'm not surprised,” you scoffed. “If that was your idea of flirting, it sucked.”
Seungmin laughed bitterly. “Yeah, Felix told me that much. Which is why I'm trying a new approach.” He looked up, and you found his eyes bright and sparkling with energy, despite his mood right now. He looked like a puppy, which was so adorable that it was unfair.
Double oh.
Kim Seungmin was trying to flirt with you? In what alternate universe have you found yourself? Never in a million years would you think that was what all his teasing meant, but apparently this was the reality. With horror, you realized you weren’t opposed to the idea. No, you were intrigued. This sudden change in his behavior, what he was telling you now... Looking back at your recent encounters, you realized he was, in fact, nicer than he used to be, but those were still a far cry from today. He still teased you at any given chance. And deep down, you knew that Seungmin was a kind man, but to help you without saying a word like he did just now must have meant something. Maybe what he was saying was really true.
Feeling genuinely curious as well as enjoying the feeling of finally having the upper hand and finally being able to tease him for a change, you voiced your next question. “Why? You like me or something?” You cocked an eyebrow, a smile playing on your lips. You peeled yourself away from the door frame and slowly walked closer to the photographer.
Seungmin seemed to go through all stages of panic in about three seconds. Subconsciously, he began playing with the rings he was wearing as a form of grounding. It was a rare sight to see Seungmin, always so calm and collected, fidgeting and feeling nervous. As evil as it might have sounded, a part of you enjoyed seeing him like this, being put down from the pedestal of confidence he himself built. It made him more like you, more human.
But before Seungmin could answer anything besides a stuttered "I", the door flew open. You had never in your life wanted to smack Hwang Hyunjin more than right now. He barged in, holding a half-empty cup of iced Americano and apologizing loudly. Felix trailed behind him like a lost kitten.
“We're so coming back to this conversation after the shoot,” you said in a hushed voice towards Seungmin, who just dumbly nodded and retreated back to his equipment while you went to scold Hyunjin (and Felix, but you could never be truly mad at him). As you made your way towards the two boys, you didn't notice the proud and amused smirk on Seungmin's face.
