hi, hello! my name is ping, i'm 18 and i go by them/they pronouns. i have a cat named navi that i WILL pet for you upon request. now this might be messy because i just came back from having a heated debate over some government stuff but, leT's gO and hope this is not a jumbled train wreck.
speaking of jumbled train wrecks (what a way to start)! one of the most important things to understand about rex is his label. 'the sloth' was inspired by one of the seven deadly sins, but mostly because of this phrase provided by wikipedia: “'sloth' has been defined as a failure to do things that one should do. ” it's pretty much all-encompassing.
BACKSTORY-
the house rex grew up in wasn't the safest place for a child. in fact, the middle of the woods would be a safer place for a 4 to 10 year old, which are the years in which rex lived with his father that he has memory of.
the best way to explain their relationship would be by mentioning that his dad didn't want rex, and rex was always afraid and/or angry at him, so in short they were both stuck with each other. except, like in most occasions, rex held the short end of the stick.
his dad liked to abuse. he liked to abuse substances like drugs and alcohol, but he also abused people. rex, as the unfortunate child, was one of those people. perhaps the most common one after his mother. the reason his mother left ( rex can really only assume this is the reason ) was because of this abusive nature of his ( although rex doesn't know why she didn't take him with her. he's too sad to think about it these days. )
never having met his mother and growing up with his often absent father, rex found a savior in the ghosts. yes, the ghosts.
the ghosts told him about adam, which then led rex to him, which then led him to receive support and kindness. the ghosts, the nice ones, told him about his giving nature, and how he was involved with the church and that he'd be the one to take care of rex whenever he really needed it ( because the ghosts couldn't provide food or shelter ) and so little six year old rex thought to check this church guy out.
of course adam took him under his wing ( that kind, kind soul ), letting rex stay at his house when he thought his dad would be absent for a longer time than usual, or simply to teach him about rights and wrongs of life. eventually, adam became rex's image of a dad, of a his dad. he saw the man as a bigger father figure than his own one back home, and after that it was basically no return. rex still thinks adam is like a father to him.
in school, despite initial suspicions, nothing was really ever done about his mysterious bruises ( those provided to him by his dad ), since rex was a demon in his own right. of course, the only type of demon a child can be that doesn’t involve actual demonic possession. he was excessively violent at times, easily irritable and very, very distracted, so his teachers always believed him when he said he fell and hurt himself or when his father lied and said that he'd gotten in a fight whenever they contacted him about it.
rex didn't have many friends growing up, mostly because he was always too caught up in his own little world to notice anyone else. except the ghosts. he noticed the ghosts.
( i wouldn't leave out the ghosts, don't worry. ) so a little backstory to this: as a child, rex was able to perfectly communicate with ghosts. the old ones would amuse him and the small ones play with him, so it wasn't really much of a problem. until he met the bad ones. the first bad ghost he met would break things around the house to get rex in trouble with his dad, which was of course a very evil thing to do.
he had his fair share of encounters with ill-intentioned ghosts who would haunt him and scare the living crap out of him, but most of the time the ghosts he met were as pleasant as ghosts can be.
since this was normal to rex, he didn't really think anything particular of it. he understood that no one but him could see them as well as he could, and that many people simply didn't even believe in ghosts, but that didn't lead him to think about how absolutely strange he was.
as a teenager the ability to see and interact with them faded to a certain degree, but rex didn't pay any particular mind to this because he was too involved in going to parties and trying out everything that had his dad so hooked.
when he was 17, his father left, which was just routine, except that this time he never came back.
rex spent his time hopping homes ( aided by adam ) and being a general disaster until the age of 22, when adam gave rex a grave digging job at the cemetery and he eventually became the ground keeper, which enabled him to live in the rent-free accommodation the job provided.
now, at 24, he lives in the local graveyard, looks after graves, digs a few holes here and there and spends his free time cruising around in a skateboard. his connection with ghosts is very vague, since he can mostly only see them through his peripheral vision now and can't hold a conversation with them. he can only discern vague messages and Feel their presence, though he's not frequently able to read their vibes. still, working at a cemetery makes him a provider of greater services than most people assume.
( I’M SORRY THIS HAS ALREADY BEEN SO LONG )
PERSONALITY: i'll only go over his traits as mentioned in the app!
low-maintenance: this means that he doesn't really require much of anything to survive. whether it be quality food, shelter, and general conditions ( because he will never complain about these sort of things ) and also involving his social life, which means he's a really low-maintenance acquaintance and/or friend so you don't really need much effort to be his pal in good standing.
genuine: he's honest. he says what he's thinking ( even if most times it's not necessarily.. positive ) and he's upfront about his mistakes and actions. he's also never been the type of person to have ulterior motives when talking to people or doing people favors, etc.
disruptive: so he's a huge fucking mess... and not necessarily on purpose, which makes him an even bigger mess. he's pretty dumb and dopey, so he doesn't think things through completely and possible consequences barely ever come to him before he does the stupid thing. because he's so honest and stupid, being disruptive just sort of happens. he destroys. a lot.
negligent: this has to do with the fact that he's stupid and dopey. he just. doesn't pay attention. so often he's still lost in his own little world that he doesn't notice the immediate world around him. if you ever see him crossing the street without looking both ways please wack him with a newspaper ( gently ), because this is the guy who's fallen into the holes he's dug himself. multiple times.
NOW THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR READING I'M FINALLY DONE. thank u... and i'm sorry. but hmu for plots if you're up for it !
