1. how does sunday react to people having genuine debates with him? does he get defensive about his ideas or does he listen to his “opposition” to gain a new perspective? 2. is there a new dream that sunday perhaps doesnt realize he has but feels more than he thinks about? a passion perhaps? 3. whats his favorite color and why? any associations with it that are positive? or negative?
how does sunday react to people having genuine debates with him? does he get defensive about his ideas or does he listen to his “opposition” to gain a new perspective?
i think there's a little bit of cognitive dissonance involved — because sunday is someone who genuinely believes that he's quite open to debates. the crux of his conflict with the express ultimately boils down to sunday welcoming them to change his mind and prove that their path is capable of saving more people. it's why he goes through the trouble of presenting them with so many moral choices. it's why he invites them to the charmony festival to see which ideology ultimately prevails. ( "sunday is deeply committed to his own philosophy and genuinely wants to prove that the order is right." ) i think if asked, he would wholeheartedly claim that he would concede if presented with a better option — but that is inherently the problem. he is never going to concede. there will never be a better option, because sunday is so inflexible in his conviction that he's correct, and any pretenses of a debate are more about swaying the other party over to his way of thinking. he will always have a counterargument prepared, he will always be ready to bury you beneath waves of sophism. watching paint dry has a more tangible degree of progress.
ultimately, he warmly welcomes you to debate him. he will listen politely to everything you have to say. but his offer is steeped in condescension; he's already made his decision about the victor and now he's just patiently waiting for you to catch up.
it kind of serves as a microcosm of an even greater personality flaw. i find the way sunday's more prideful side manifests to be really fascinating in general — he has a very "i know better than you" energy to him. it's not unlike a doting parent or shepherd diligently leading his flock of helpless sheep. i know i've mentioned it before, but he tends to veer quite condescending without meaning to. sunday has gotten a bit better about it after taking a train to the face and he's usually coming at it with the best of ( warped ) intentions, but occasionally he still flies too close to the "guy who orders for you at a restaurant because he knows you WILL like what he chooses" shaped sun for comfort.
is there a new dream that sunday perhaps doesn't realize he has but feels more than he thinks about? a passion perhaps?
pov i am standing at my "sunday will join the astral express" conspiracy board and mouthing "trailblaze, trailblaze, trailblaze" at you with increasing urgency while maintaining direct eye contact.
that aside, i don't believe his original dream has actually changed at all — he's simply been put into a position where he must reconsider his method of attaining it. the person sunday is now isn't capable of building that long desired paradise — a fact he has been made very painfully aware of. but where others might falter or reconsider their goals altogether, sunday is too determined to give up ( unsurprisingly, considering what he was ready to sacrifice the first time around ) and is willing to rebuild both himself and his dream bit by bit. beyond that, i think he would really like to duet with robin again if given the opportunity — particularly as he reacquaints himself with the piano and rediscovers a joy for playing music as opposed to merely dictating it from the conductor's podium. unfortunately, that dream certainly won't be happening anytime soon; long separation and the spotlight being so infamously strict and unforgiving as it is, his mere presence in robin's vicinity is equivalent to a dark stain that threatens to ruin her entire career. but he can at least keep himself preoccupied by practicing for a recital that may or may not ever happen.
what's his favorite color and why? any associations with it that are positive? or negative?
i think in general sunday has a preference for cooler colors — soft grays, dusty blues and so on. he strikes me as the type of person who can tell the difference between eggshell and ivory white at a glance. he also likes metallic hues; silver, gold, bronze — playing lightly into his magpie-esque fondness for little bits of jewelry.
his favorite color overall is actually that pale lilac shade seen in both his mother and robin's hair — unsurprisingly because it makes him think of them. there's a part of sunday that quietly wishes it was also his natural hair color; he never knew the father whom he supposedly takes after in that area.
