#( That's A Real Spider Fact ; Accept No Substitues

This has been rattling around in my head for like a week, and I just find myself needing to write this down. And what is THIS, exactly? Well, I'll tell you! This, here, is a meta post on Peter Parker & how he projects his feelings of guilt onto things. Which I'll put under a read more for reasons (aka it's HELLA long)

So, I wanna start by saying that Peter is a very private person when it comes to certain affairs. For instance, as far as I know from reading the comics, he's never told anyone about the night Gwen died. The only people who know are those who were involved in the matter, with some notable exceptions, those being Ben Reilly and Kaine Parker as well as Jessica Drew, Ben and Kaine are exceptions because they're literally Peter and thus, have his memories. And Jessica knows because he told her (as said by Jessica herself during Spider-Gwen volume 2, issue #3) she even tells Gwen "Jeez. Which jerk told YOU about the bridge?"

What I'm getting at is that Peter usually doesn't talk these things out, if other heroes know, it's not because he told them. It's because they figured it out. Peter internalizes these things and, in a way, keeps traumatizing himself, he replayed Gwen's death so many times that he effectively invented a way to save people who are falling and not risk killing or harming them.

Two big examples come, of course, from Norman's hands. He tried it twice after Gwen, one with MJ and another time with Anna Maria Marconi, and Peter's inner monologue says "Practiced this a thousand times, where to latch on to someone... How much counter-force to use reeling them in. At this point, I could do it in my sleep... Because I'm determined never to relieve old nightmares."

This is just one example, another one is how he projects all his feelings regarding Gwen onto Earth-65s Gwen. During the Sin-Eater storyline, he texted Gwen and when they have a chance to talk he tells her, "Look, I know you're not MY Gwen Stacy, and I'm not your Peter Parker. I get that. But right now? Right now, I just really need to know what she would want me to do-- And you are the closest I can get to having an answer." This right here is the best example I have of how he works. With E-65! Gwen he's projecting all his feelings of shame and regret but more importantly his love and guilt. Pete is determined to never face another Gwen situation again, and for the most part he follows through on it.

Yet another instance of him projecting his feelings is when he failed to save J. Jonah's wife, Marla. He made this whole vow saying "Whenever I'm around, wherever I am… No one dies!". As y'all can see, he's projecting his guilt onto saving EVERYBODY, even though it's not realistic.

What I'm trying to say with this wall of text is that Peter carries around a massive amount of guilt for his failures, sure, he uses them to motivate himself, to be better, to avoid a repeat of that situation, but he doesn't process these things in a healthy way! There’s no way to even go into the topic in a way that doesn’t make him sound like, at best, someone who needs constant therapy. He just doesn't talk about it willingly, he only brings these things up when he's under extreme stress (Sin-Eater, saving Anna Maria, etc) or when he's forced to.

• wireless earbuds - a lightweight pair of earbuds that he wears under his mask. Highly useful for phone calls while web-slinging, or while fighting as well as for listening to music on his daily commutes. These were made by Peter himself during his time working at Horizon Labs since he kept losing or breaking his store-bought ones. So he decided to make himself a pair using a really tiny amount of Vibranium he kindly asked T'Challa for.

• cellphone - Nothing fancy, just a simple smartphone he keeps with him at all times to call friends and family, and play music and is connected to his earbuds.

• Apartment keys - Simple, the keys to his apartment. They got a small Spidey keychain, MJ thought it'd be funny... And Aunt May thought so too.

• Breath mints - Come on. He's mentioned before how everything tends to stink after a while of wearing that suit, so he's just being careful. He doesn't want a repeat of people telling him his breath smells.

• Wallet - A simple brown leather wallet Jay gave him after he landed his big Horizon gig. He keeps a lot of things in there, old tickets, old movie tickets, about 50 bucks worth of bills and coins, an old pic of him and MJ and most importantly? A photo of him, Uncle Ben and Aunt May in front of their home on Ingram Street.

BAG

• Water bottle - Never leave home without it kids! May always told him to carry a bottle of water wherever he goes, which worked a bit too well, he's easily got a bottle in every backpack and messenger bag he owns.

• Notebook & pen - Another old habit from his college days, he mostly keeps one in every bag he owns in case he had to take notes on anything he can use for his bugle job (you know, the science column one) or to write down whatever mad science idea he came up with!

• Spare change of clothes - for the busy superhero who is always running! It's always useful to carry a fresh change of clothes, you never know when you'll need them!

Funny you ask about music, I was thinking about that last night! Peter is a bit of a weird bag when it comes to music. I once saw someone describe him as a geriatric in a young man's body, and I gotta agree there!

Peter was raised by two pretty old people, even if their ages don't really make sense, so I think Peter's music tastes are a bit all over the place. Some standouts from older comics include Ella Fitzgerald, there are also specific mentions of him enjoying Elvis Costello. But I think he'd enjoy Elton John (I mean, I'm Still Standing? Iconic!) pretty sure I saw him singing Rocketman. In that same vein, my Peter loves listening to David Bowie, Queen and maybe a bit of Nirvana, Radiohead and a touch of Billie Joel! You cannot tell me he wouldn't sing "For The Longest Time" to MJ or Gwen!

That said, I think he'd shy away from like... Death Metal or any of the more intense/loud Metallica songs. Probably as an old habit of not wanting to scare the crap out of his uncle and aunt.

Ok good! So, bcus @65spider and @onlydied put this thought in my head now I wanna add to it.

Peter has a "list" of sorts in his head that is tied to his Spider-Sense. He knows which people are in his spider-sense list and can tell who's in danger based on the severity of the migraine. Obviously, immediate family like May or MJ get priority, thus the headache is more potent than when say, Johnny Storm or Ben Grimm are in danger.

That's not to say he doesn't care about them but knows they can fight, so the pain is a bit less. And because ATSV did it, Peter can sense stuff happening on other Earths provided that someone he cares about/loves is on that Earth. Say, Miles got up to something he shouldn't have? Peter's gonna get a headache about it. Gwen's doing something crazy? Whoops, there goes the spider-sense! Hell, it even works on other Earths and the future, *cough* Miguel over at 2099 *cough* Needless to say, Peter constantly has a bottle of Tylenol or ibuprofen in his backpack, my man is getting headaches 24/7 and he's not even a dad yet!

5. how long can your muse hold a grudge? / for sad headcanon questions

You know, funny that you should mention that! Peter is a very petty person, he's held grudges for a long ass time. For example, if we take MC2 into consideration, Peter is like 40 (ish) and he still distrusts Osborn's on principle after what Norman did to Gwen, that's like a 20-year-old grudge.

To a lesser extent he still had a grudge with Flash and the way things were in high school, but he did get over that one around the college days iirc. Point is, Peter is extremely petty and can hold grudges for a long, looong time! Though if he can make peace with it, then he lets it go relatively easily. I mean, he's on kinda good terms with Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote, so...

OK so... Peter is no slob okay? Sure, he can appear a little bit dishevelled but that'll happen to anyone who dashes as often and as fast as he does.

Admittedly he doesn't spend an ungodly amount of time in front of the mirror trying to get his hair right and so on. Makeup, honestly, only when it's needed to cover up a bruise and such (and even then, MJ and May have commented on him laying the foundation too thick iirc) so he's not the best at that. Now for grooming, Peter can forget to shave if he's had especially eventful days or something big has happened (look at post-Secret Wars, he had a full-on scruffy beard) but more often than not he's clean-shaven. His hair is also a bit of an interesting topic, it's always medium length, long enough for him (or the mask) to style in many ways of which I don't even know the names!

And finally, clothing. Traincat goes into a much deeper dive than I could do, so I'm gonna link the post here but also gonna take a few things they say. Peter is usually pragmatic with his clothes, they need to cover up the suit, quoting Traincat "A pretty classic Peter look -- a black turtleneck and jacket and boots. It's a good style choice because it's flattering, and you can mix up things like patterns on the turtleneck or the jacket, it's pretty timeless as styles go, and more importantly, it covers the entire spider-suit, from the high neck down to the boots and long pants covering any potential little ankle flashes."

This one's a bit of a weird topic. Ever since he was 15, Peter has been something of an angry social outcast with a huge chip on his shoulder, of course, that all changed after the bite, Uncle Ben and his whole life as Spider-Man. What I'm getting at is that Peter is naturally a loner, to the point other heroes have commented on it, but in a funny twist, Peter does want to have friends and I think that, on some level, he desires friends whom he can talk to or hang out both in and out of costume. He doesn't actively go looking for friends, he doesn't see every meeting as an opportunity to make a new friend. It kind of just... Happens. I mean, the Fantastic Four? Logan? Daredevil? She-Hulk in some cases, even the of Hulk. They've all become friends after some rough patches but Peter certainly didn't seek them out for that. It just happened!

Well, most of Peter's interests were considered unusual when he was in high school. But after that, college and adult life, they're not really unusual. Now, habits? Oh yes, he has a few that are unusual, for example, whenever he's deep in thought or whatever, he tends to pace around the room. The only difference is that he goes up the walls, walks on the ceiling, then the other wall and finally back to the floor. He also talks to himself out loud, which is often accompanied by his pacing all over the room. And honestly, he's gotta hide these things, it's just a fact of his life.

Sad headcanon questions // ALWAYS accepting

20: what is something your muse wants to tell others, but is too afraid to? 

Easy, the big one. The "I'm Spider-Man" thing, it would explain a lot about him. His absences, his disappearances, everything. But he knows that the more people know his secret, the more they'll be in danger. Jonah is targeted only by association, the fact that he now knows just made the target bigger. MJ? He's constantly worried something's going to happen to her (I mean, look at Gwen, he doesn't want ANYTHING like that happening again.) So yeah, as much as he'd like to say it, he can't.

24. does your muse lean more toward “forgive and forget” or “resent and remember?”

Eeeh... He's a bit of both, tbh. He's got moments when he's the "forgive and forget" kind, like when Otto saved Aunt May and Peter forgave him for the whole Superior Spider-Man thing or when he forgave both Eddie and the Venom symbiote and is now on good terms with both, he even sort of willingly joined with the symbiote to kick ass, saying "You and me again, huh? ... I can feel it. I'm faster, stronger, better!" but at the same time, if you've particularly angered him, he won't forget, he'll resent you until either of you dies. Just look at Norman, or Sin Eater, or Carnage, or honestly a lot of his rogue's gallery. But yeah, for the most part he's open to being "forgiving and forgetting" Spidey.

8. what does your muse fear losing the most?

Sad headcanon questions // ALWAYS accepting

Kay, so, this question is one that has many answers. Simply because, despite not showing it, Peter is afraid of a lot of things. But if I had to give ONE answer? It'd be his fear of losing people he loves. Really, it all just stems from when Ben died. Peter just doesn't want a repeat of that situation and, sadly, he's gone through it at least twice, essentially just reinforcing the fear and this belief that he has to protect everyone he loves though he kinda has a bit more of a... Leaning, let's call it, towards protecting his immediate family. Like, his priorities lay with MJ and May, and later on, to his daughter and son.

Excellent question, thank you! So, the funny thing about Peter here is that he does try to eat the standard 2-3 meals a day but more often than not he either eats less (1 or 2 meals a day) or ends up eating more (4-6) and this is due to his enhanced metabolism. Since he's running around all day, he builds up a lot of hunger and he has to grab a snack often. Peter is the kind of guy who needs to be reminded to eat in a timely fashion, otherwise, he ignores his hunger and eats at weird hours.

Peter can cook, it's just that he doesn't have time to do it so more often than not he eats out or gets take-out from whatever Chinese or whatever Deli he can find. That said, if the situation allows for it he will definitely go see May and, other than going just to visit her, ends up with him carrying containers with enough food to last him a few weeks to a month.

Again, due to his enhanced metabolism and the stupid amounts of exercise he does on a daily basis, he can afford to not eat healthily that often. He tries to eat healthy, if anything just for Aunt May and MJ who worry about his health but the reality is that it's cheaper to get a slice of pizza on the streets than to cook the food himself.

Light Blue characters are laidback and creative, often with a good sense of humor that ranges from sarcastic to straight up puns. They are good at community building because of their chill and funny nature, and they are expert planners. They normally aren’t very uptight, but can become so when they feel there is something that needs to be done, or feels that their authority is being undermined. They have a very strong sense of responsibility, mainly for people in their care, often an older sibling figure to many of those close to them. They can get paranoid and overbearing when they are worried about those that they are caring for. 

They can also act childish and have fun but they like having people around who can see their maturity and treat them accordingly. Sometimes they lack common sense and it plays out in humorous ways, but when it really counts they are quite perceptive and intelligent, brilliant inventors and strategists. Their decisions may seem impulsive, but are usually quite thought out and purposeful. They aren’t the type of person who really wants to be the sole lead, but they want to have a say in the decision making, and they need their input to be taken seriously. They often feel inferior to others and can become defensive when their ideas or sense is questioned because of it. 

They don’t generally get things handed to them, but have to work for what they want. This can make them feel out of place in a space with others who people praise as “exceptional”, and being the “ordinary” one is a bit of a sore spot. They can tend to act cocky and confident to disguise their insecurities, again often using humor to help them along. Light blue characters need people who ask for their opinion often, give them proper recognition for their positive traits, and don’t leave them out of important decisions, but also don’t let them take on too much. Alright, let’s do this one first last time! Under the cut, you’ll find the timeline for my Peter’s MCU verse. Some things are subject to change depending on plotting but this is the overall look. Also, I changed a lot from the Amazing Spider-Man films just to give it more consistency... And because comic book influence. 

August 10, 1990: Peter Benjamin Parker is born to Richard and Mary Parker

1995: Richard and Mary leave Peter with his Uncle Ben and his Aunt May. Richard and Mary die in a plane crash.

2005: Peter is bitten by a radioactive/genetically altered spider, gets his revenge on Flash Thompson by humiliating him in front of his pals and breaking the backboard in the process. Ben bails Peter out without too much trouble but demands that Peter pick up Aunt May after her shift. Peter forgets and is confronted by Ben back at their house. Peter and Ben argue and it culminates with Ben chasing after Peter and being shot in the process. Ben Parker dies.  Peter and Flash Thompson become friends following the death of Ben. 

Peter makes his first Spider-Man suit after he fell through a roof chasing someone who might be the guy who killed Ben. Peter begins his crusade as a vigilante by trying to find the man that shot Ben, he’s unsuccessful at finding him but he realizes that he should be using his powers to help people and officially adopts the name ‘Spider-Man’ after rescuing Jack from the bridge. It’s in this year where Peter fights his first super-powered bad guy, an electrician working for Oscorp named Max Dillon. Max is sent to Ravencroft for treatment.

2008: Peter Parker graduates from Midtown High at 18 years old.

2009: Tony Stark reveals himself as Iron Man to the world. Peter starts college at Empire State University, meets Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson. Flash and Peter become good friends and settle their differences (for the most part) 

2010: Peter attends Stark Expo and is saved by Tony when the Hammer Drones attack. 

2012: The Battle of New York happens. While not directly involved in the Battle, Peter was present in Midtown helping civilians evacuate, get them to safety and fend off any Chitauri that might get too close to them. A few months after the battle, Peter befriends scientist Curt Connors who was a friend of Richard Parker and begins helping him with his Cross-Species experiments. Connors is forced to begin human trials on the Lizard DNA and it’s around this time when Peter and Gwen begin dating after three years of knowing each other and hanging out. 

Peter tells the origins of his abilities to Gwen Stacy. A few days later, Peter finds out that Curt Connors is the Lizard and goes to George Stacy to talk about it but is promptly shot down. Peter goes down the sewers to track down the Lizard but the fight ends badly and Peter is forced to retreat, he ends up going to Gwen's house injured. Peter later returns to the sewers and finds out Curt Connor's plan. The Lizard attacks the NYPD and turns them into lizards. The antidote is released into the air and Curt Connors returns to human form. George Stacy is critically wounded, who asks him a promise to keep before dying. Dr. Curt Connors is taken into custody.

2014: Peter, Gwen, MJ, Flash graduate from ESU. Harry Osborn returns to New York, Norman Osborn dies shortly after that. Felicia Hardy is hired as Harry Osborn's assistant. Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy date again after a short time off. Spider-Man battles Rhino after Alexei was given the suit by an unknown benefactor. Spider-Man battles Harry who turned himself into the ‘Green Goblin’ after using an experimental serum to save his life. The two fight and Harry kidnaps Gwen, takes her to the clock tower where he and Peter have their final fight. The fight ends with the death of Gwen, partially because of Peter’s webbing snapping her neck due to stopping her abruptly. Peter stops being Spider-Man for FIVE MONTHS.

Peter is tracked down by Nick Fury and is drafted into the ‘Avengers Initiative’ though he wasn’t a registered member before the Fall of the Triskelion and SHIELD being outed as HYDRA. During this time, Peter and MJ grow even closer following the death of Gwen and, after Peter revealed to her his secret identity, the two begin dating.

2015: Peter starts working as an intern at Stark Industries. He suspects it's due to Tony figuring out he’s Spider-Man but he’s not too sure. 

2016: Peter is recruited by his boss, Tony Stark, to help him fight Captain America in Germany. Peter accepts but only after being promised that May and MJ will be safe and nothing would happen to them. Peter held his own against Captain America, not due to his superior combat experience but because of his knowledge on how to best use his powers. In the end, Captain America beat him but convinced Peter to give thought to the situation. Peter ends up switching sides and fights next to Steve and his team. He’s later returned to the US following the battle at the airport. Peter and Tony have a falling out, with Peter quitting his internship at Stark Industries. 

2018: Despite their falling out, when the Q-Ship arrives on Earth, Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian are destroying Greenwich Village, Peter left the apartment he shares with MJ, donning his Spider-Man suit and swung to Manhattan to face the arriving invaders. After fighting off Cull, Peter was tasked to save Doctor Strange, a task he did a bit reluctantly. He ended up clinging to the side of the Q-Ship and, before he lost consciousness, he was given the Iron Spider Armor as a gift from Tony before the two boarded the ship. Peter managed to leave MJ a message telling her that he’d be back shortly. 

Peter and Tony, after burying the hatchet, come up with a plan to save Doctor Strange. The plan works and the three agree to take the fight to Titan. The Guardians of the Galaxy, the two Avengers and the Sorcerer Supreme fight, with them stalemating the fight before arriving on Titan. The battle is a failure, with the combined forced failing at removing the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos’ hand, Thanos obtains the Time Stone and goes for the last Stone. Peter sealed Tony’s wound using his web-fluid as they awaited the inevitable, Strange could only inform Stark that they were now in the endgame. With all six Infinity Stones, Thanos snapped his fingers, wiping out half of all life in the universe. Back on Titan, Mantis suddenly sensed that something was happening, only to disintegrate, with Drax and Star-Lord following suit. Doctor Strange, resigned to his fate, informed Tony Stark that this outcome was the only way, before disappearing as well. Peter’s Spider-Sense went into overdrive, as he could sense all life being erased from existence. His head pounding, all he could do was scream as he was left with a feeling that someone close to him was now gone, he passed out due to his spider-sense overwhelming him. Eventually, only Stark, Nebula and an unconscious Peter were left, defeated and stranded on Titan. Nebula could only solemnly state that Thanos had finally succeeded in his goal, as Stark silently sat down and mourned the death of his allies.

2018, 20 days later: After the events of Thanos' Decimation, Tony, Peter and Nebula resorted to the Benatar in hopes of returning to Earth and reuniting with the Avengers. The Benatar only had a few supplies left since the trio had been on the ship for more than twenty days. Emaciated from lack of food and water Stark recorded a message using his helmet for Pepper Potts explaining that he'll miss her In case he died in space. With Peter managing to use Tony’s helmet to send a similar message to his laptop on Earth containing a message for MJ and May. Afterwards, Stark and Peter drift off to sleep as Nebula sympathizes for them. 

Shortly after Peter and Tony fell asleep, they’re awakened by a blinding light emitted from Captain Marvel. After Captain Marvel found their ship, she brings it back to the New Avengers Facility on Earth. Over in the middle of the field, Tony and Peter exited out of the ship and were reunited with Captain America, Pepper Potts, and the rest of the Avengers. Peter immediately left for Queens after getting a call from MJ who proceeded to explain that May, as well as Anna Watson and most of their friends,  were victims of Thanos’ Decimation.

PROS AND CONS OF DATING MY MUSE

Pros:

Peter is honestly a very supportive person and he’ll support his S/O until he drops. And he’ll always have their back no matter what.

He’s a very stand up guy and will literally stand up for those that are in trouble, no matter if they’re kids or adult, if he sees them in trouble he’s there. 

He’s a fairly decent cook as long as he has either a guide (someone that tells him what to do) or a recipe. Evidence of this are his dumplings or his Chicken Curry and if asked, he’ll pack lunch for them... Though he’ll forget his own food. 

He’ll always call his s/o any endearment terms though they’re often limited to the most standard ones like babe, babe and so on.

He can lift all your heavy things for them, they included.

He’s very easy to please. It’s the little things that matter. He won’t ever ask for big things from them, he’s learned to value the small things.

Cons:

He can hold a grudge for YEARS and it’s not easy to get back on his good graces if he decided he doesn’t like you anymore. 

He’s very stubborn. Arguments with him can be fiery, he can lose his temper and even break things if he’s feeling that bad but he’ll always say sorry in the end if he feels he’s in the wrong.

He’s a very emotional person, so if he’s angry then he’ll say things that will hit you right where it hurts. As evidenced by when Gwen died, he literally insulted MJ when he was hurt. 

He’s also obsessive to the point that he can go nights without sleep just to be out on patrol and it can put a strain on any relationship since he’ll either be late to dates or skip them altogether.

Peter Benjamin Parker is a huge foodie. So if you’re hanging out with him and you happen to get the munchies, lemme tell you, he’s gonna have you covered fam! He’s gonna take you out, no matter the hour, and show you his favourite joints and street food vendors. Which, lemme tell you, already know him BY NAME and by his favourite order. Basically, you want food? Pete is your guy.
