got around to reading that gawker article on adhd and i have very mixed opinions
#on one hand i agree with a lot of the points and especially the ones that are going around in its popular post rn#but on the other. it seems to play into the idea that childish middle class tiktokers are our oppressors when that is so clearly not really#the case.#if you go offline to talk about adhd yr going to find people that dont understand and especially dont have positive opinions#the article touches on these a little but its all 'made up to sell more drugs'#or 'yr not like my adhd kid at all' or 'it reallly only affects little boys' or 'its a work ethic problem bc of how you were raised'#and the slightly more knowledgeable people are the ones that are going to give you shit about being a savant#BUT that is not caused by tiktok millennials who do webcomics.#el problema es el capitalismo etc etc#and while it obviously isnt the case that being silly around animals or watching cartoons is a symptom#it feels so internally ableist to dedicate several paragraphs about how annoying you are if you see YR OWN neurodivergency as a gift#getting personal. im adhd but i did this with anxiety for a long fuckin time#'why do you feel comfortable expressing yr irrational fears when i was hypochondriac for over a year. thats weak'#my difference is that when i thought that i reality checked myself for sounding like my dad.#i did not write an article.#AGAIN i agree w a lot of it i just couldnt find compliments that havent already been said
