oki!! the ask game :) how about,, no(s) 2, 4, 22, 30, 33, and, 34?? (if u dont want to answer any of these, obviously dont, do what ur comfortable with!!)
2. Why do you write fanfiction? I suppose I write fanfiction as a way to practice my writing. It’s an easy way to put your work into the world anonymously and have people see it and comment on it. I first started fanfic because I wanted to give back to the community. I saw all these wonderful authors and thought, maybe I can do that so I tried it out and had a lot of fun! So, I mostly write fanfic for myself.
4. Are there any writers that inspire you? YES. So many. A huge inspiration is @llendrinall, because her stories are narrated in a somewhat unconventional way. Some of them remind me of a children’s storybook, in the matter-of-fact storytelling style. Considering that my own narration style is similar, seeing her amazing works inspires me to keep writing.
P.G. Wodehouse’s dialogue is also another inspiration, though I doubt I’ll ever achieve his level of wit.
When describing imagery, my main inspiration is @doitwritenow. Her imagery is stunning, and incredibly detailed. (Her works can be found here)
However, when writing, I try not to lean in too heavily in another author’s style. I prefer to just see what I can come up with when given access to a keyboard and an open Google Docs file.
22. Do you listen to anything while you write? I don’t turn on music specifically for writing, but if something is already playing, then I’ll listen to it. It can get distracting sometimes, so I usually have some kind of instrumental music playing at a very low volume.
30. Tooth-rotting fluff or merciless angst? Uhh, I’ll have to go with the fluff. Angst makes me too sad, however I do enjoy reading it. I prefer writing something in between. Some friendly banter, a few jokes, and a generally wholesome atmosphere.
33. Is there anything you wish your audience knew about your writing or writing process? To keep myself entertained, I leave jokes in my drafts. Little things, like “Norns bein all ‘lol timeloop go brr’”, or intentionally punning in certain passages and leaving a comment that just says “AHAHAHAHA GET IT???”
One thing I’m super proud of is that I actually made a table to plan out my scenes in one fic I’m writing. It’s color-coded, too!
34. Copy and paste an excerpt you’re particularly fond of. Off of the top of my head, I do like this section: “Merlin had never learned magic. He was Magic. He was Emrys, the immortal. He was a half-faerie. He was a sorcerer. He had never once reached out to magic. It had always been Magic reaching out to him.” Thanks for the ask, Jess!
