Canonically, All for One has a quirk that can detect lies so he could just straight up ask him are you my brother who I thought was dead for years? Would be funnier however if All for One just decided that his lie detecting quirk was malfunctioning because his pride can't bear the thought of his younger supposedly stupid and naive brother was able to outsmart him for many years.

Canonically, AfO has a quirk that lets him detect the "slightest malicious intent towards him" that he combined with other quirks later to strengthen it and while he uses it as a lie detector and says he got it in the earlier days, we don't know exactly when that was in relation to Yoichi's 'death'. So he doesn't even have to think it's malfunctioning! he just can assume that this guy who looks weirdly like yoichi is somewhat malicious towards him, probably out of annoyance to bumping his grocery cart and staring at him

#unfortunately anon you have stepped on a land mine called 'a quirk that annoys pocket more than reasonable'#BECAUSE the canon description MAKES NO SENSE #'detect malicious intent' sounds more like danger sense than lie detection #ESPECIALLY the tsukauchi line of lie dection #which is very technical about 'exact words' and lying #eg- koichi said he wasn't 'the cruller' when makoto asks him #because he's actually 'the crawler'#but he was still trying to decieve her and get her to not suspect he was a vigilante #which means the 'intent detection' should have still gone off if she's in that line #i guess in a couple of generations it could have changed somewhat but those are like #opposite schools of lie detection #and hori has been shortening the timeline of quirk generations #which makes a stark change in less time even stranger #it is possible this is an instance like where Aizawa lies about the mechanics of Erasure at usj #but that wouldn't make any sense #as hes THINKING TO HIMSELF and not throwing off any oponents #so this is one time where we can actually take afo's word as true #anyway thats my rant about a quirk set that annoys me #'ohhh i got a malicious intent detection quirk from someone related to another character'#youd THINK thatd be like. shinomori's sibling #but nooooo its tsukauchi's great grand something instead #pocket talks to people #anon
