Well @tirlaeyn, ask and you shall receive!
First, this is a continuation of a series I started three years ago. (whoops) Garak ends up adopting the little girl from Cardassians who asks if he’s going to take them home. I named said girl Sunar.
Now, Sunar has a habit of sneaking onto runabouts and in jefferies tubes. Odo knows that if she’s up to no good, that’s probably where she is.
Sunar snuck on to the runabout with Garak and Worf, because she overheard that this mission was into the Gamma Quadrant, which might be where her Baba (Julian) is. (THe changeling Julian matter was...resolved. Resulting in an alive Baby Goo.) She ends up in the internment camp, stuff with Tain, hugs, etc. So, when the Cardassians except for Garak are told to leave? Garak whispers to her to find a ‘Kelas Parmak with backstory delta’. (It’s his kid. And with all the shit going on? He’s going to make sure she has several backstories at hand just in case. Julian called him paranoid.)
So as soon as she’s on Cardassia, Sunar RUNS because Dukat is involved with this and he’s just bad news. She ends up in the district where all the orphans are. Carefully, but with the grace of a 12 year old, she finds out that lo and behold, Kelas Parmak is a doctor with a clinic in this district.
Kelas is of course suspicious, particularly since while ‘Bajoran orphan who snuck on a series of ships to go back to Cardassia’ doesn’t quite seem untrue, Sunar does not seem to want to stay on Cardassia.
Eventually things come to a point where the truth comes out, and while Dr. Parmak would love to keep helping the orphans, they can see the writing on the wall and the jem hadar on the streets. So through some contacts, books it with Sunar to DS9.
Their first meeting with Garak in years involves a slap that can be heard across the station. For many reasons. Including ‘telling your kid to come to me of all people’. Things get worked out eventually. Especially with Kelas working in the infirmary and getting to know Dr. Bashir.
Also yes I am going with nonbinary Kelas! With long silver hair and blue make up. Because I can.
