a lot about him is very sad and I make fun of his life sucking a lot but i still never want valdes to come off like too much of a tragic character. i think the line that keeps him from making me too sad/that I think keeps him uhh functional mentally and not trapped in despair is that he himself kind of has... odd priorities. misplaces(?) the weight he assigns things, has emotional responses that don't quite match the situation he's in.

he places a lot of importance on much less serious stuff going on, and has a 'well no point thinking about that too hard' attitude about a lot of the more obviously tragic events in his life. he's incredibly laid back about being a literal freak of nature but like. gets embarrassed if his hair looks weird. yknow

he has not yet experienced the necessary emotional development to process big terrible things as opposed to misplacing the feelings onto much less significant problems. until he crosses that bridge i will watch him fall into a spike pit nonplussed because he will come out of it complaining about a minor personal interaction he fumbled earlier in the day instead of Wow falling in that spike pit made me scared and sad
