You were in a dilemma. Your crush and your best friend has just confessed to you. You were lying if you said that you didn’t have feelings for your best friend, and also if you minded having a older(by 1 year) companion by your side. 

This wouldn’t have happened if you didn’t go to Korea with your childhood friend.

“Why don’t you go to Korea with Chenle?” Your mum nudged your side, earning a whine from you.

“I know that you secretly want us to get married mom,” You sighed as you tapped on your mobile device incessantly, “You don’t need to beat around the bush just to matchmake us.”

“But you two look good together!”

You put down your phone, and raised a finger, “One, the relationship between Chenle and I are simply platonic. Two, Chenle’s a literal music star, mom. Even if we got together, his company would just break us up the next day.”

“Or maybe I should book that trip to Mauritius with Jerry...” Your mother tapped her chin thoughtfully, mentioning one of your distant cousins that you never want to meet again.

“I’ll go to Korea with Chenle.” You shot back, earning a smile from your mother. “And no, you can’t come along.”

“Why?”Your mother raised her eyebrows, “Are you guys gonna do that uhm, what you youngsters do, snoodling canoodling?”

You face-palmed yourself, “No mom, we aren’t gonna “frickle frackle” or “snoodle canoodle”, we just want to have fun by ourselves. Besides, you can go to that Jay Chou concert that you’ve always wanted to go. Chenle’s mom has tickets.”

“Really?” Her eyes lit up.

“Really.” you nodded.

“Okay. Get packed, you’re leaving tonight.” Your mother patted your back and stood up abruptly.

“What?Mom, i didn’t agree on this.”You defended. You weren’t mentally ready to meet Chenle’s good looking bandmates, and you were certainly not ready to meet your crush, Renjun.

To be honest, you have met them before. That is, through your laptop screen. The period of time Chenle went back to China, he face-timed his bandmates every single day, updating them on how his day went, his new discoveries, how all his aunts asked him if he had a girlfriend and simply mundane stuff. You thanked the love gods that you and Renjun too, face-timed each other seperately, speaking and joking freely in Mandarin. Renjun had made a new friend outside Korea and outside his hometown, and he was the actual definition of Prince Charming to you. His perfect imperfections weren’t even flaws to you, it was just another feature that made him more charming. Nonetheless, you could only dream of being Renjun’s girlfriend, living miles away and his career in jeopardy.

As if it was a scene played from a movie, Chenle spat out his apple juice, splashes of saliva and apple juice drenched your shirt.

“Zhong Chenle!” You hit him intentionally this time, as he tried to stifle his loud laughter, “You’re so gross!”

At the same time, you were slightly offended by Chenle’s reaction, you thought he actually liked you, as he became more affectionate around you and calling you baobei jokingly(how you wished it was real), his laughter just had to break all of your high hopes apart. You didn’t know you had a crush on your best childhood friend, as cliche as it may sound, only after your best friend told you how she observed you being more feminine around Chenle recently.

“Alright I’m sorry baobei, forgive me will you?” Chenle used his napkin to wipe off the juice stains, sending your heart rate above 100.

“You’re lucky I like you,” You mumbled.

“Yeah, I like myself too.”Chenle winked, causing you to roll your eyes playfully.

“Baobei, wake up, we’ve landed.” Chenle woke you up from your blissful sleep, scrunching your nose in attempts to adapt to the bright surroundings. You rubbed your eyes tiredly as you stood up, stretching your hands widely.

While on your way to the customs, Chenle gave you a brief introduction about the members, and telling vengeful secrets about themselves in the NCT dorms. You now knew that Mark sleeptalks in 3 languages, Jisung hates cleaning, Jeno secretly hates Jisung(but they still get along well nonetheless), Haechan sings Limitless in his sleep, Jaemin sleeptalks as well. For Renjun, Chenle only complimented him endlessly, being his closest hyung amongst all of NCT.

After what seemed like an eternity in the customs, Chenle walked towards a white van, supposedly their group van for schedules. He greeted his manager with a friendly hug, and with “MC Ari!” which you had no clue of why he called him that.

“Y/N...”Chenle started as he buckled his seatbelt.

“Hmm?”

“I know this is really sudden but this is the only time I can tell you this...”Chenle wrung his fingers nervously, a sight unfamiliar to you.

“Spill it.”You prompted.

“Okay, uhm,”Chenle giggled nervously, “I like you, Y/N.”

“I know, I like me too.” you mimicked Chenle in attempts to lighten up the mood, but he only took your small hands into his, staring into your eyes.

“I’m serious!”He whined, making you giggle uncontrollably, then regaining your composure.

“Okay, first, I--”

“Oh we reached.”Chenle let go of your hands at the speed of lightning, then exchanging a few words with his manager. Everything happened in a flash, you’re unable to respond, or too stunned to respond. All you could do was to follow Chenle’s instructions and go with whatever flow there was in store for you.

You were lucky that you could understand a little bit of Korean.

You could at least make out what they were talking about, Chenle talked good things about you (luckily) in front of the members, with his arms lazily slung around your shoulder. You weren’t gonna lie, his arms had weight but it was comfortable to you, it felt like home.

For dinner, the dream team decided to bring you to the nearest chicken joint, as Chenle mentioned that you loved chicken. On the way to the store, while Chenle was playing with Jisung, Renjun kept you talking, asking about your life back at home, though it seemed boring to you, Renjun yearned for the life you had.

“I miss my dog too,” Renjun sighed, “I haven’t seen it for like 4 years.”

“Why can’t you go back to China?” 

“Because NCT is always changing their member lineup, I can be in NCT Dream today and then another NCT unit the next day.” Renjun explained, casing your heart to ache a little. There is also another member that reminded you of Renjun, which is Mark, whom debuted 3 times in a span of a year.

You looked at Renjun with sympathy, then patting his back reassuringly, “I’m sure you’ll get a break soon, don’t worry.”

“I...”Renjun stuttered.

“Uh huh,” you srunched your eyebrows in confusion, allowing Renjun to continue.

“I really like you, Y/N, and I know this is kind of rushed and sudden, I mean you can take your time to--”

“Renjun!” Jeno called out, startling the both of you.

“Tell me soon alright!” Renjun smiled, then walking towards Jeno for whatever he was called for.

Everything went by just like a snap of an instant, and you really hated to hurt either of them. But you had to make a choice.
