for anyone less familiar with hostile architecture, there's an even bigger picture to be seen.
YES it is designed to be cruel to homeless people, BUT IT NEGATIVELY IMPACTS EVERYONE.
Disabled people. Elderly people. Pregnant people.
Tired people. People who've stood all day at work.
People who just want to sit.
And seating is only one example, but we'll stick with that; where is anybody supposed to go to just exist in these conditions, when their only options are to either stand or contort themselves into the gaps of an "art installation?" In some cases, such as airport lounges, seating is literally commodified, given a price tag - you must be this wealthy to obtain the right to sit at a certain point in a public transit hub.
there's way too much to this for me to try and unpack at 10am on tumblr dot com, but id love if this inspired anyone to think more about the hostile architecture in their own area and maybe even get a little angry about it. or a lot angry. i think we need to be a lot angry about this.
