      He’s been staring at the celing for awhile now, cigarette in hand nearing the end of its short lifespan. He hadn’t even made much use of it. Sitting upstairs in his room, foot tapping as his eyes focus on nothing in particular, he hasn’t even noticed yet that he’s begun humming. It wasn’t much, just a melody he remembered a friend used to sing often. Hm.

     It’s from this state he hears a door open and close downstairs. Footsteps. They’re back already. He ought to get on down there, but this moment of reminiscing was a strong one. It takes a second to leave the daze he’d found himself in. But his feet find the stairs and he’s back at the bar. There’s a bit of a faraway look in his eyes. 

“You’re back so early.”

“In danger? What is it that makes you say that?”

     This was… Sudden to say the least. Unexpected too. Not that danger was something foreign to him. But nine times out of ten he knows exactly why and who/what the threat is. That’s why upon hearing this, there’s more than a little skepticism in his eyes.

“Are you sure about that? I don’t see any sort of immediate danger. So relax, take a seat, and tell me about your troubles.”

     He’s already fixing her up a drink. Minding her age though, he’s hesitant before deciding on tonic and soda water.
