annoyed about tkdb haru's magically comfortable and near infalliable prostethic arm again. need to rewatch full metal alchemist and trigun again bc those are some of the few arm prosthetic characters that dont tick me off from how unrealistic it is. even though they are still really well functioning sci-fi nerve connecting prostethics, they get messed up.. broken and changed and rebuilt. they get taken off reguarly bc theyre not comfortable. vash i cam believe wouldnt complain about phantom pain bc hes well. mr feel all pain dont bat an eye. but ed is does regularly. he deals with the effects of his arm hurting him and becoming dangerous in inclimate weather, threatening to burn or cause frostbite to his skin.
yet harus body weight is centered on the fake arm when ren picks him up in ch 3 and it doesnt even slide off. its messing up and crunches but like. its a prosthetic it is not Part of you. with his stigma weakening his body it would definitely be a huge risk to cause extra harm to the rest of him if he moves the wrong way or towa makes a blizzard and it gets too cold or something. idk man its one of my biggest disability writing peeves. you make a character thats disabled by having them have a limb difference, but then give them an arm that magically makes them function exactly like someone with no limb difference.
its annoying. its erasure and surface level and using it just as a cool factor without putting any real thought into how it affects a person and changes how they have to approach things. its a cop out. it sucks. it happens really frequently with blindness as well, with the added trope of it being somehow cured magically. as if you cant live a full and happy life as a blind person (and many blind people do still have sight! and none have magical superhuman hearing.)
id rather see disabilities, Especially physical disabilities, not done at all if they arent going to be done with thought, care, and respect. do some base level research. stop for a damn second and listen to actual real disabled people.
