I never did figure out where Alopex actually came from in her 2003 verse, but honestly I feel like it's better not to know. It creates a mystery that drives her. All she knows is she was found by the Foot Clan and trained to serve as a hunter, answering directly to Karai.

The longer she interacted with the turtles, the more uncertain of her path she became, but she never really had any other options. It was obey or be subjected to a fate worse than death.

Once she's cut loose due to circumstances, she's just... lost. And she's afraid to turn to the turtles, mostly because she doesn't know if they could ever trust her, regardless of the fact that she wasn't exactly serving the Foot Clan of her own volition, and wasn't even fully aware she had any other choice. She simply... did. Because she had nowhere else to go.
