Snowbirds.

It's getting around the time of year when I look out my window every morning. I don't have to get up super early to see the sunrise, so I like to pretend I'm one of those people who wake before the sun to go for a run. Except I'm not. I know for a fact I'm going to fall back asleep if I lay in bed for one minute too extra. But it's hard to get up when the sun doesn't wake with you. Sweater weather also brings on another problem. Fluffy, cozy sweaters are great, but they feel so much like a blanket that I tend to drift off. In the afternoon I watch the summer birds fly south for the winter. Heading for a place that is much warmer and more tropical than me. I wish I could join them, but the snow weighs me down. They look so free up there, their wigs spread wide like nobody's watching. But I do, I watch them. Even if I was the only one, I'd still watch them. I know life as a bird would be amazing. When life gets to be too much you can just fly away wherever you want to. If I were a bird, I would fly to the Carribean or Brazil. Or maybe I’ll just let the wind take me. It’s just wistful thinking, though. My wings are pinned down by this big, heavy coat, I couldn’t take off like the snowbirds do.
