I literally have the most amazing and wonderful community in the entire world???? T_T In this essay, I will—

This is going to be raw and unedited because I want to get my initial thoughts out there before I forget n go back to crying /pos, but?? Yawl.... I can't even begin to find the words to express how appreciative and grateful I am for each and every one of you!! ;v;

I've spent the past few hours reading through everyone's personally written messages, then rereading them all again to let it all fully sink in. I'm being genuine when I say that I've never felt this loved or appreciated in any community before in my life.

Those in the Discord server might know about this already, but since the start of this year, I haven't really been enjoying myself (nor have I been as active) in the yandere VN community. There was far too much infighting between devs, parasocial communities, and toxic anons that ruined so much for me — so I withdrew from it all and remained in my own small bubble. Even then, I still got belittled, harassed, doxxed, and even became the target of Tall Poppy Syndrome by others; most of which nearly made me want to leave altogether, but the overflowing amount of support from everyone in the 14DWY community made me want to stay.

And even now, after reading all those heartfelt messages... I think it's permanently solidified the little space I occupy here on the internet :3

So... Yeah, long story short (and a story that will likely end up as its own separate Tumblr post gjskskjd), I wasn't enjoying myself at all in the yandere VN community... but I did have the time of my life in the 14DWY community. And it's all thanks to you guys.

I'm genuinely sooooo proud to have such an endlessly kind, social, and talented community; and I'm glad to have brought such an interactive and friendly group of people together over our shared interest in such a nice concept. 14DWY is essentially a labour of my love — and although I'm ultimately creating it for me and my silly interests — it's still something that I want to make worthy of you guys as well. All the love and support you've shown me and 14DWY motivates me to do my very best, and y'all deserve nothing less. So...

Thank you all for finding a comfort character in my Totally Normal Guy and his Totally Not Eccentric quirks. Thank you for all the insanely talented creations y'all make and share with me. Thank you for sending in your silly (/pos) questions and turning them into inside jokes and AUs for the rest of the community to enjoy. Thank you for talking with me and making this space a genuinely fun place for me to be in again.

This is probably very far-fetched and a result of me overthinking it but i have a theory that Leon is secretly a yandere. So here's my little investigation :3

Piece of evidence number 1: I vaguely remember you saying something like "who said Ren is the only yandere in the game?" Or something along those lines, in an older post.

Piece of evidence number 2: In a post from june with some Leon crumbs you said: "When he was younger, Leon almost got into a fight because the weird kid in the grade below him tried to give you a ring on the playground. But Leon shut the whole ordeal down really quick because you promised to marry him first. Did you forget?" And that's just giving me yandere vibes

(Moving onto crackpot theories cause this is just me over analyzing jokes you made)

Piece of evidence number 3: You mentioned Leon, Theo and Jae would wear matching among us costumes for halloween, and Leon would be the imposter. Which made me think he might actually be an imposter lol

Piece of evidence number 4: This post was all non-canon and a joke but i'm still going to mention it. That one ask about Ren messing around with Angel's bedsheets, your response was "Who's gonna tell em about what Leon does in the bathroom during your sleepovers?? ^^"

aaaa I know next to nothing about BTD and I don't really vibe with the themes, so any similarities are completely coincidental!! ^^;

But to clear a few things up: - [REDACTED] chose the name "Ren" because he doesn't like his real name, which it's derived from. His real name also isn't Strade or anything close to it. - His sister's birth name is Hana, but she prefers to spell it the American way (Hannah), because she unfortunately got whitewashed at school and wanted to fit in with the rest of her peers. I just use "Hana" because I'm too lazy to type it all out most of the time. - As for the animal, the only reason I said Ren would be a fox is because they share many similar traits!! They're both very cunning, intelligent, and mischievous hehe >:3c At one point, I also said Ren could be an otter because he likes to hold hands a lot dkjsgks

Has anybody noticed how many similarities there are between 14 Days With You Ren and Ren from Boyfriend to Death?

I could very well just be look into this but idk-

So first of all of course is the name similarity. Especially since Sai said Ren was a nickname its possible it could be because of the similarities and if I remember correctly [REDACTED]'s twin sister's name is Hana (or something simular).

Sai has also said that if [REDACTED]/Ren was an animal he would be a fox which is one of the reasons I looked so into this.

If I getting this wrong I'm sorry but Ren Hana came from Japan and is half Japanese and oh would you look at that- the emo boy is ALSO half Japanese.

This led me to think that maybe [REDACTED]'s real name could possibly be Strade?

I could very well just be looking to far into it and just making myself look a fool on the internet but maybe it could have some clues/hints to [REDACTED]?

My ask is: If Angel was a detective, would [REDACTED] go out of their way to play the part of the killer you're trying to find? Even if you eventually found them out? My line of thinking in this is that the whole case would be a form of attention to [REDACTED]! And maybe he could pretend to be your colleague as Ren? It'd be a super interesting story/AU, I think..

I don't think [REDACTED] would go as far as becoming the killer himself (purely because it'd be a lot of work on his part), but he'd definitely be the type to frame all of the murders on the people who were getting too close to you.

Like, oh?? That guy at the bakery gave you a free muffin because he thought you looked good in your outfit?? He's now your #1 suspect and all of his DNA is suddenly found at the scene of the crime. Or that checkout clerk who handed you a few extra coupons "just because they felt like it"?? Suddenly they've been posting rather... suspicious stuff on their social media accounts that all coincidentally lead towards your killer's identity.

But if [REDACTED] reeeeally had to be the killer (or if you really wanted that enemies to lovers trope), he'd honestly just blackmail and bribe innocent people to do his bidding ^^; Like?? If Violet wants to see her mother again, she better put oleander poison in his target's drink. If Jae wants to make sure that Teo and Leon stay safe from the anonymous killer, then he better find a way to dispose of someone's dead body. [REDACTED] would 10000% be able to dig up dirt on all these people and easily use it against them. They'd have no choice but to murder his victims for him — and worst of all — [REDACTED] wouldn't even need to leave his room to do it.

Ren, on the other hand, would definitely try to be of use to you — though I don't think he'd go as far as pretending to be a detective as well ^^; It'd be too suspicious for some rookie detective to suddenly show up at your workplace (despite the fact that he could easily forge his resume and work experience) — but if it comes down to it; he's not opposed.

But in saying all of that, I'm totally okay if you (or others) wanna come up with other ideas for this AU!! I'm just throwin things at the wall and seeing if it'll stick lmao

Was your inspiration when creating Haruko Ren Sangonomiya Kokomi? Since they’re my two faves I just thought they looked quite alike

✦゜ANSWERED: Ren was originally based off of my old UTAU/Vocaloid OC, so there are no real visual inspirations for his design!! ^^ I just like creating pink/white-haired scrunklies who are perhaps a bit unhinged lmao

Also this isn't directed at you by any means, but just so others are aware: I'm not really comfortable with people comparing Ren to other characters (it diminishes all the effort I put into making his design and personality unique, and oftentimes leads to people mischaracterising him (i.e. if he looks like Kokomi then he must act like Kokomi as well)). It's not fun being put in another character's box when I wasn't intending to be there in the first place ;v; /nm /lh

IF REN WAS A MYTHOLOGICAL SEA CREATURE WHAT WOULD THEY BE?

✦゜ANSWERED: AAAAAA I'M SORRY FOR THE LATE REPLY, BUT REN WOULD EITHER BE A MERMAN OR RYUJIN INSPIRED SEA SERPENT!! ^^

I will always consider Winndy's version of Mer Ren as canon — but I've received a few asks in the past for my own personal take on a mythical sea-creature Ren, so I'll drop a few headcanons under the cut for those who are interested!!

On one hand, [REDACTED] would have a very Ryujin-like/dragonesque appearance to pay homage to his Japanese heritage: with a long, razor spiked tail, sharp teeth, large claws for nails, and a daunting size of 15+ feet.

But on the other, Ren would also 100% be a koi fish/axolotl inspired sea creature!! Like.. look me in my eyes and tell me this lil guy isn't Ren shaped... :( And if you've seen his tattoo refs, then you'll understand the koi fish reference >:3c

Similar to normal, human Ren; his scaly counterpart is just as — if not more — cutthroat and deadly. While his tail is normally a dark, multicoloured shade of onyx, Ren will often hunt down others of his kind, pluck their scales torturously slow, and wear them to appeal to Angel(fish): his landwalking obsession.

He's curious by nature, so if Ren finds out your favourite colour, he's definitely going to wear it around you all the time. And if you have a preference for a certain texture or shimmer for the scales, then he'll meticulously seek out more to add to his collection.

Ren's kind communicate via otherworldly clicks and trills, and it's honestly really creepy to hear when you're alone at sea during the cover of night. Like imagine hearing eery clicking sounds that contrast the soft lulls of waves, before it goes hauntingly silent — followed by the scrape of sharp nails against wood and a thump of something very large landing onto the deck.... Teehee

Winndy's version of Mer Ren is more siren-like with how they lure Angel in with their voice, but my version of Mer Ren uses a different approach. When in the water, he can release an invisible toxin that gradually relaxes/numbs your body and puts his prey into a trance.

He essentially Pavlov’s you into thinking that being in his presence feels safe and relaxing dfjgfjdg Just like how normal Ren gaslights you into thinking he's docile and harmless.

Since he's loosely inspired by Ryijun mythology, you can assume that Ren has the ability to transform himself into a human as well. So even on land, you're not safe from him ^^

100% has eaten a human before, and will do it again without hesitation (they won't ever eat you though <3)

I have more, but I don't wanna take the spotlight away from Winbae's Mer Ren anytime soon ^^ But if you've made it this far, then I really encourage you all to check out @14-blubblubs-wif-yoo!! i pm'ed you this already but i thought i'd share it here as well to help others. here's my lame attempt at cracking the 14dwy playlist mystery :] i have a feeling i only got 3 or 4 of them correct loool

1 shapeshift - Ren the song is about changing your personality for the one you love. "she's so sweet, bubblegum, cherry / i'm salty, might make your gums bleed" might be talking about Ren and Redacted's contrast, and how angel prefers Ren's persona over his true self. it also gets violent and gory towards the end which might allude to his redacted counterpart and how he'd go to extreme lengths to keep them happy.

2 almost had me - Violet "you were a wolf in sheep's clothing / and you almost had me." this song might be talking about how Violet was almost fooled by Ren. she knew he was suspicious from the beginning and you also said if it weren't for the storyline, Vi would've known Ren's real identity immediately. you also said that she's incredibly perceptive and has final girl material which fits the theme... and it's also in her official spotify playlist ;P i cheated a bit hah

3 heart shaped hologram - ren's second song "I keep forgetting you're somewhere else with someone real / You're laughing in their arms while I'm in the dark" this might be ren's introspection song because he can glitch the game and only wants to be with angel [who is real] which matches the lyrics of the song. in day 2 bad end he also mentions being in a dark void and begs the player to let him out.

4 wild enough - jae it's mainly about changing yourself to fit in with your friend group. in day 2 Jae is described to always be following along with Teo and Leon because he wants to be included with them, such as "am i wild enough for you?"

5 body - kiera this is the only song i had left so i figured it was for the mystery character which i believe is Kiera. her name was brought up in the past and also appears in the very first game files.

6 city of the dead - Moth "white light fades to red / as I enter the city of the dead" this could potentially be about moth because they don't live in corland bay [judging by the timezone difference in day 1] which makes them safe from Ren. they're not part of the city of the dead because Ren can't reach them.

7 Harvest Moon - Elanor "i've been hit with wonder since you caught my eye / slow down, I just want to stay all night with you" it's a hopeless romantic kind of song which is how you described El. it also sounds like it could come straight from her romance novels. it might also be Violet's song because harvest moon is also a game and she's a gamer girl. but it might not be her song after all because violet doesn't seem to be romantically interested in angel or interested in relationships at all.

8 Glimpse of us - leon "cause sometimes I look in her eyes and that's where I find a glimpse of us" possibly leon because the lyrics talk about seeing the person they love in their current partner. and Leon seems like he has feelings for angel and has to watch them date Ren in day 2. he also went to australia for a while and his character in 5 minutes sheet says he has a bit of relationship experience so maybe he had a partner and kept seeing angel in them.

9 god complex - leon ending "don't you say that / i'm your best friend" this might also be leon's ending song because the lyrics talk about the singer's best friend betraying them. there are also other songs by the same artist in Leon's personal playlist.

10 backstabber - conan this could be about Conan because he seems to have ties with the police and gangs which can be seen as shady. he might betray us in the game by siding with Ren which fits the "you're such a backstabber" line.

11 angel - good/neutral end "I thought you were an angel / I lost myself when I caught sight of you / I'm bidding you farewell / you'd never stand a chance in hell." the song to me seems like Ren accepting angel doesn't like him and letting them go. possibly the neutral end? or the ending with the secondary charas instead of rendacted

12 gun - bad end "You had better run from me / cuz I am gonna come for you / I am gonna break you down to tiny parts" it might be the bad end song where Ren becomes a murderer or something along those lines. it could be about him hunting down all the other charas who tried to harm angel or take them away from him.

13 fvck somebody - Teo "i wish you'd fuck somebody, steal my money, say you never loved me" yep that's all teo. rich, non-commital and not caring about his partners sleeping with others. this was probably the easiest to guess after shapeshift.

14 days - true end the entire song screams 14dwy to me with the scars on Ren's hands, the lyrics possibly alluding to angel getting kidnapped, and even the song title being called 14 days. to me this sounds like it could be the true ending since you said that's how you intend the game to canonically end. you're also very cryptic with some of your posts having hidden meanings, so making this song number 14 on the playlist could be a deliberate and important decision.
