Etruria /エトルリア, Aquileia / アクレイア, and Reglay / Wrigley / リグレ
Etruria (JP: エトルリア; rōmaji: etoruria) is a major nation of Elibe in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade and Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade. The name comes from the former Italian region of Etruria, home of the native Etruscans, who would eventually be annexed or conquered by their Roman neighbors. Even before being absorbed into the Roman Empire, their culture was heavily influential; Etruscan kings ruled over Rome prior to the formation of the Roman Republic, and they are accredited for the basis of Roman architecture and even the implementation of the twelve Olympian gods into the Roman pantheon. Some even believe that Rome itself was founded by the Etruscans, rather than the Latins. These connections to Rome are likely the inspiration for Etruria's connection to the Elimine Church. The Etruscan elite also grew wealthy from trade with the Celts, possibly relating to the Celtic name scheme of the Western Isles, where Etruria has colonized.
The capital of Etruria is named Aquileia, after an ancient Roman city in northern Italy. Beginning as but a Roman colony, Aquileia would grow to be one of the world's largest cities, garnering the attention of the Visigoths and the Huns. The city would be sacked and ruined by Atilla the Hun in 452 as he began his attempt to claim Rome. The city would recover, but was again destroyed by the Lombards over a hundred years later. After Charlemagne conquered the Lombardy duchy of Friuli, the duchy was granted to the Patriarch of Aquileia.
In Japanese, the name of the city is アクレイア (rōmaji: akureia), officially romanized as Aquleia. This is an obvious corruption of Aquileia.
The final named location in Etruria is the home of House Reglay, Castle Wrigley. In Japanese, both the name of the family and the castle are identical, written リグレ (rōmaji: rigure). This is derived from リーグレ (rōmaji: rīgure), the Japanese term for the Ligures - also called the Ligurians - an ancient people who are the namesakes of the Italian region of Liguria. The Ligures are accredited as the first to settle in Po Valley, and would found the city of Stalia, which would become Genoa. Following the Punic Wars, the ever-expanding Rome sought conquest over the Ligures, with the tribes being subjugated by 124 BC.
