There was initially a disconnect. Benjamin heard the words, but felt no reason to believe them -- even with the warm, sickening sensation of blood trickling down his temple, he was quick to shake his head, denying the inevitable. He couldn't risk bringing a civilian into this. He was already too far off the proper path, given how he'd been chased through the woods via horseback, and now found himself a bit turned around.

"I'm fine," Benjamin said. Nettled, he glanced over his shoulder. He'd managed to lose his pursuer by veering sharply through the underbrush, but how long would this lead last? Anxiously flexing his hands, he added, "Is there an inn around here, by chance? Any place I could stay?"

if kol had to confess something, it was that this is not the first time that someone, meaning girls, especially, tried to invite him for a drink or to go eat something. he knew that he had a lot of charm. even if, many things could take away the charm, like when he becomes maniac and he can get angry about something, which sometimes can be useless, he could see it and especially hear it with his very developed hearing. being an original vampire sometimes was something he liked. especially when he could feel what people hid when he asked questions like, why me and not someone else? this is why a surprised look appeared on his face, mouth opening and closing for a moment as he bite on his lips while he looked at her with interest. It was almost dawn. The sun twinkeled between the dirty little strees as Lira took her last sip of beer. She just wanted to quickly visit a 'friend', mostly to get some goodies, and all the sudden the night came and went. Lira was almost at her bar as she decided to smoke one last cigarette before going in. A little dizzy from her lack of sleep, she scrambeled for her lighter, suspecting that she might have left it at her 'friend's house. She almost didn't see the other woman who turned her corner. Lira wanted to keep going for a second, but the face of the girl seemed....interesting. "Hey, uh, do you have a lighter?" she asked and eyed the redhead infront of her. "Actually, are you okay?" she added. Maybe it was the lack of sleep but she couldn't help but feel a little concerned for her.

Sadie, his manager of five years, hadn't managed to suppress her joy at the reception Jesse's newest album, Doggone, had achieved, and it's her that creeps into his mind when he realises she was right. He had better get used to it; it would be easy if people were always this polite.

He's fighting back the wave of his incompetence— that he's never prepared, forever surprised anyone knows who he is— as he wrestles in his pocket for a pen. & pauses, offering an apologetic half-smile as he brushes his hand against the woman's and raises a polite brow. — ‘‘'m real sorry, I'm afraid I ain't got a pen. With as much as his mind drifted to the future -- and with being an Eagle Scout on top of that -- one might think Cards would be better prepared. And he generally was. He'd had the guy pegged from the moment he left the deli with his hyperactive child, still looking quite down and distracted. All it took was the psychic pointing out a handful of grackles picking at scraps on the nearby sidewalk that seemed to distract them long enough from whatever had caused the rift, the iridescence of their dark feathers and squawking chatter capturing the child's attention and brightening the father's mood almost immediately to have the stress of the moment alleviated over something so simple, as though the dark cloud surrounding the strangers had lifted.

But as prepared as he could be in moments like this? Cards didn't expect a young woman nearby to present him with a page of her notebook; it took him a moment to register that he should read it, but when he did, his brows lifted as he looked to her, face unfamiliar, but he smiled just the same.

"Oh that?" he said, motioning to the retreating father-child duo with his thumb, humility taking over since he always found it difficult to accept a genuine compliment. "That's just ... being nice, I guess? Lots of problems can actually be solved with just a little kindness, you know?" He paused, motioning to the contraption on her arm. "That's pretty cool. Are you doing cosplay? Or is it a legit, like, experimental device?" This was a college town, after all, and he had seen all sorts of tech projects.
