i do think ( with my current knowledge on knives ) that luka couldn't give a fuck about what people say about him. like, yeah, ok, sure, he's done a lot of horrible things... but so has luka's own brothers. even his youngest sister has done some truly fucked up things in the name of a goal or a desire. he's not the sort of person to be that hypocritical to judge someone else on what he refuses to criticize his own family for. and yeah, ok, maybe knives wants to rid the world of humanity. but luka wasn't much better for a while there. so consumed with rage and vengeance, it took him half a decade to remember that there's more to life than revenge, and even then, every time he's reminded of the source of his rage, it cycles through again. so nah, he's fine with knives. a lil exhausted, but fine.

end game luka being a king and because of that, you know what happens when a pretty boy rises to power and is good at his job

the exhausted days of being told he's an asshole when he's really just annoyed from seeing people only want false friendship, and suddenly he understands how tough the job is

and then @tcaleaf molly sidles into the empty silent throne room while he's silent, almost still as the wood and stone he sits on, and he can't help but smile when molly makes a fun comment or happily oblige to a request to go lay down

some days, elysia ( a muse from @pleiadeshalo ) will show up and everyone knows better than to mess with the king on those days. elysia has a way with words that is both bizarre and terrifying and at that point in time, while relieved the war is over, no longer takes chances with his loved ones remaining happy

messing with the king on the days where molly is allowed in the throne room is also subpar because it's akin to the king allowing the court jester to be directly paid to roast anyone who annoys him and then gets laid afterwards by said jester

luka's hair, now much longer, goes a pearlescent white sheen during end game times, to reflect his newfound hope in the recovery of the worlds and the hearts of people. however most see this as him getting old.

the inherent beauty of a cold indifference to a world that let him rot from the inside out with rage before someone reminded him that love is just as strong as hatred. the inherent beauty of luka knowing he stopped being human some years back, back when he was properly being taught blood magic by tia dalma. the inherent beauty of a doctor, a gate in the way of death, who can no longer die either and not by choice. the inherent sadness of luka feeling like he's a walking herald of doomsday and choosing to heal anyway.

anyway i have a lot of feelings about the fact that luka doesn't think he's fit for love because a) he both feels too much and doesn't show enough, while b) he does all the wrong things at all the wrong times. while my friend's vash just picks him up and goes "If they don't want you, I'll take you. If they don't want you, they've lost their minds. If they don't want you, I'll keep you with me." and the the poly just pipes up with "Don't fucking keep 'im all to yourself, Vash!" and for once, for a little while, luka forgets that he doesn't feel like his life is a series of mistakes. for once, he can enjoy something he thinks is love and peace.

another fun fact about luka: canonically he took the affects of death, nightmare, and fear itself. gloom, heartless, darkness itself... he bottled it, caught a storm in a bottle, and he turned pure destruction with no recovery into life. he took death and turned it into a medicine that could cure anything short of breathing your last. can he replicate it? no. but he did it. and that's why the devil is AFRAID of him and god went 'i dont think i can stop you'.

it's easy to look at luka and say that he's human. after all, he does bleed red. he has a beating heart, he cares for people, he instinctively wishes to help those around him. but the correct term to use for luka highwind, is HUMANE.

luka doesn't feel fear anymore, not in a way that gives life meaning. even in the face of death, all he feels is resignation towards a bitter end. the thing that keeps normal people alive, that reminds them that their heart still beats, he doesn't FEEL THAT. even what fear he feels due to his nyctophobia, despite it's horrific strength to cause him occasional paralysis, in some moments, it feels less like part of him and more like an echo. and sometimes, those who catch him off guard, which is easy to do for someone who lives a life out on the sea, used to the sound of cannonfire and gun blasts too close to the ears, will see that he's cold as ice before he notices that he has to be normal. but he ages, like normal humans do. he breathes, he needs food and water, he needs friends and family, he needs love and hope... or at least, he's pretty sure he does. he'd test his hypothesis, but his mom would probably kill him.

speaking of middle aged, yes! luka, by the time he gets stuck on / travels to noman's land, he is 41-42 years old.

if you havent read his fancy file yet: his mana stockpile was cut to 23% of original maximum. he went from 263 mana to 61.

in a traditional manner, he swore that oath to himself. as for the actual oath done by doctors? no. he was given hidden training away from prying eyes thanks to his father and was never required to, and often was asked to make something "just work" but he refused to, because it would mean hurting someone ( and he would have anxiety/panic over it ) . problem of being a child of a spy family. re: his family being actually awful? lmao, long walk short pier version: everyone in this family are murderers and have no regrets about it, as they viewed it and still view it as "a necessary action". additional edit: i think you forget he's also more of a pirate than a doctor.

i can't express succinctly what i mean but Please Consider for a moment, the following:

luka in trigun verses still has his twilight cleric wings, however as a result of the way the world works, they become less a construct of magic and more an actual part of him. but he's not like Vash or Knives. and he can't say he's human like Meryl or Millie or Wolfwood. so he's constantly caught biting his tongue, and constantly hiding what was once so natural to him, because now he knows people will run if they see it, run and hide and shriek and be afraid.

Luka is an angel, yes. but he is not one sent from above. he is an angel who got stuck here, and the world wants to cage him. and like any good torturer, it knows how to keep a man beaten down. *starving him*. controlling the food, when and what and how it's gotten. in this case it's Mana, it's his Abilities, everything that was once so freely His Own, pulled back like a puppet string because he cannot be allowed to do as he pleases.

he doesn't have to worry about his abusive father, so he's much happier with himself, and much more confident in how he presents himself. he does however still very much miss his bio. mom; as imperfect as a woman as she was, and how she did unintentionally irreversibly alter aryin and ariel as people by being the type of woman she was in their youths, she was still a good woman, and there's nothing that could make him stop missing her.

regardless of what happens, he knows what he wants in life, and it's to make the world a better place than when he found it (heyyyy stella~)

Luka loves to hug people. It makes him feel like he's less alone. However he feels no need to express this as most people believe he... is unfriendly and unpleasant to be around. It helps that he typically runs hot, but on hot days, those that know his elemental magic make-up can ask if he can be a pillow and he, may oblige.

Luka has the ability to self regulate his body heat. Most of his family prefers the heat, prefers to hug him while he's running hot, and whenever Vivian is around, he keeps himself comfortably warm and huggable, someone to lean on and sleep against. But sometimes when he's not paying attention, he'll go as cold as the dead, like his blood pressure dropped into abysmal points, when in reality it's just his magical signature being fucky.

His favorite flower is his birth mother's favorite flower: the gladiolus.

His favorite colors are not blue nor silver; those are his work colors. His favorite colors are actually coral pink and hunter green. He does not mention this though, even though his Captain's hat are those exact colors.

some relatively important but kind of minor quality of roleplay things about the trigun verses that i enjoy bringing up

due to how they're supposed to work, luka is around forty years old in both of them. to be specific, he is 40-42 years old, and his profession remains as a doctor.

he does not subscribe to whatever the fresh prince hell aesthetic you morons are doing on noman's land. this is a desert planet and he's going to treat it as such!

though his magic is cut very very, ah, clipped shall we say, i'm ruling it, for the time being, that he's at around 23% of his original mana supply at maximum. (so instead of 263 mana, he has 61 mana. he feels like a fucking teenager again.)

because of this sharp drop in mana, using a lot of it in a day can leave sick and shaky. however, his innate ability to regulate body heat remains, as it is something not even the planet could take away from him.

he is not deemed human, despite how terribly normal he looks, so he tends to avoid those scientific types and sticks to those who, while have a keener eye, care little more than how big your heart is.

luka HAS seen vash's bounty, though finds it a bit fucking ridiculous. you have that high of a bounty for a dude who posed for the picture? asinine.
