if ever there was a physical manifestation of the whole cartoon ❛ heart eyes ❜ thing, ren would totally be it. cause she just – fuckin' hell – she's so insanely, head-over-heels, sappy in love. like it's actually sort of sickening, isn't it?

he's too good for her.

because he shoves her face away with his hand and she cackles, loud and bright and open, for once in her life not even thinking about the eyes that may or may not be on her them. because it'd always been a thing, right? that constant prickly feeling at the back of her neck that clawed and clawed and clawed at her, like it was trying to burrow in through the back of her skull. and always with that voice, too ; you're not pretty enough, you're not smart enough, you're not enough.

but just being around jude makes all the bullshit fade away, if only for a little while. he's maybe kind of a little magic, like that.

so she laughs and it's real and it's perfect. ❝ oh, i so totally have. ❞ she beams up at him, cheeks a little sore cause she's smiling so goddamn hard, and tightens her grip on his jacket so that even with their playfighting he doesn't push her away. ❝ and it's terminal, i'm afraid. sorry to you, rip. ❞

They just seemed to fit together and he'd felt like that since the moment they met. Okay, maybe not so much back in high school where he knew she existed because she was popular and she never gave him the time of day; but he didn't hold that against her either because high school is its own culture that most adult people would rather forget about.

Since the moment they caught up out there in the real world, Ren had been inseparable from his everyday thoughts. It wasn't just the way she felt tucked against his side as they walked through the carnival. She fit him emotionally, too. She made him smile and laugh. They were able to take each other's sarcasm and turn it into something disgustingly adorable. He fucking loved this girl.
