197 wasn’t able to find a lot on their little scavenging mission but he found enough to make a small cake. His A.I partner was able to help him bake it in a small makeshift oven. He would go to find Serena to give her the cake. Once he found her, he placed it in front of her. “I saw that it was your birthday today. It’s not much but I hope it’s to your liking.” Was all he said before walking off to return to his normal routine of weapons maintenance.

     In times like these, the littlest things often mean the most. Any sense of normalcy-- anything that could make someone believe, for a second, that they could return to the life they lived before-- is something a vast majority of the survivors, including Serena, have grown to appreciate. The cake that is presented before the blonde-- as amateur and imperfect as it happens to be-- is no exception to that. Grey eyes shift away from the baked good, moving to rest on the front of the other’s headgear, and for a moment, a slight flicker of something akin to joyful flashes across them. Of course, others have remembered, but it does not change the fact that she remains rather grateful.

          “It is, thank you.” 

     Are all of the words that she manages to respond with before his form disappears from sight, the proposition to join her remaining at the back of Serena’s throat. Oh well. Perhaps it is best to enjoy this moment alone with her own thoughts.
