✰ A few headcanons about Aiden’s fans ✰

They call their fandom the Mavie Army, members are called Mavies

Aiden definitely wanted it to be called the Vanceguard but it did not catch on at all. “You can’t tell me that my fans being called Vanceguardians wouldn’t be cool and strike you with fear.”

Aiden adores engaging with his fans on social media and in public. He thinks they’re so fun, even if they’re a little unhinged. (Tbh if y’all ever wanted to hop on anon, I’ll totally have Aiden reply to you the same way he’d reply to a fan 👀)

Yeah, when it comes to Aiden’s fans, he has a **really vocal** minority that can be a little unhinged.

Aiden is frequently shipped with his friends. Most notably with his best friend, Ara and his friend/ex-girlfriend, Sophie.

You know how a fandom will have “that one fanfic” that has traumatized the entire fandom but for whatever reason everyone’s read it? Yeah the Aiden fic is referred to as the “paint fic.” And I will not be elaborating - I’ll leave it up to your imagination.

Speaking of fanfiction, it should be a given but Aiden hates having his likeness portrayed in fanfic. On the other hand, he loves seeing fan creations about the characters he plays and knowing that he’s inspiring original content.

He struggles to sometimes set hard boundaries for himself and so his fans kinda forget that their relationship with him is a parasocial one. This often results in his fan making comments that really make him uncomfortable.

Here’s a fun meta-headcanon: I totally think Aiden had made his way on to a lot of banned faceclaim lists. Partly for being a Disney Star, partly for associating with several problematic people, and partly because the Mavie Army has ruined the idea of him for some people.

🍅 How easily is your OC embarassed? What subjects make them flush and why? What event has made your OC the most embarassed they’ve ever been?

It depends on where he is! He actually incredibly collected when something embarrassing happens to him in public; he’ll laugh it off, turn it into a joke and just let the media soak it up. But when he’s with his closest friends & family, you could tell him his fly is undone and he’ll disappear into his room for like half an hour and refuse to leave. It’s hard to say that when Aiden was the most embarrassed because he’s really easy to tease. It was probably a day where his friends were particularly digging into him after he did something stupid at a party.

🍏 When your OC says “I had a bad day” what does that tend to mean? Is it really as bad as they’re saying or are they being a bit dramatic?

This also depends! During an interview, it usually consists of some kind of story of minor inconveniences and maybe an embarrassing moment, something he can laugh off. When he’s with friends, “I had a bad day” probably means that you’re going to spend the next hour crying, begging him to find a therapist.

🐉 How religious is your OC? Do they pray to any god(s) or do they not believe in that kind of stuff? What is their view of religion in general? Where do they believe people go when they die? If your OC is not religious why not and what do they believe in otherwise?

Aiden is pretty agnostic. He wants to believe in god/gods but holding those beliefs feel weirdly in conflict with his lifestyle. He takes comfort in not thinking about it much and loosely participating in religious practices with family.

On the topic of death, I think his belief is a mix of Pagan/Christian belief. He believes that you could end up anywhere after you die; you could got to Heaven, Hell, the underworld, or even reincarnate. It’s another thing he doesn’t think about - though if you were to ask him “where are you going to go when you die?” He’ll say “I’m going to Hell” without hesitation.

💗 Ramble a bit about this character!

Hxjsneskjc how the fuck do I ramble on command? 😂 I was just talking about how Aiden will never grow his hair out. For him to grow his hair out is like,,,,a capital crime. He’s not allowed to do it. The world will implode. He’s going to shave his head for before he lets it get real long. God the thought of long-haired Aiden strikes me with F E A R. I don’t want it. It’s illegal.

Has Aiden ever experienced any scary situations with his fans? For example a possible stalker scenario.

Not entirely! But hoooo there’s always the possibility. I’ve written a several cases in the past, but this iteration of Aiden hasn’t had too much trouble, yet.

He had a brief girlfriend in high school that pretended to not know who he was to get close to him. They eventually broke up once he realized that various things of his would go missing after she’d visit. He hasn’t heard from her since and is entirely relieved that it didn’t get to the point of a restraining order. But that’s really it.

I GOT THIS THREE TIMES askfdj;l When I got it the first time, I put it off because I was like "fuck if I know" then I got it two more times, so here I am. I guess the people really wanna know. 😂

"Oh, I'm an amazing sweet talker. Natural charm, breathtaking charisma. There's a reason why people love me in front of the camera."

I'd say Aiden's actual best trait is his creativity. I don't get to show it much because it's often buried under a lot of his baggage. While he hasn't honed in on his writing skills, he's still an incredibly talented storyteller; his approach to his characters are out-side-of-the-box; God, you should see him play in a D&D campaign - he'll full immerse himself into the game and it's just a thrill for everyone involved.

And that's where his flaws come in: Aiden often thinks that his biggest flaws is that he's a liability and an all-around toxic person. But the truth of the matter? His biggest flaw is that he's quick to give into self-fulfilling prophecies and spends time trying to be someone he isn't trying to mitigate damage of being rejected. Aiden's creativity is hidden behind his manicured personas, his substance abuse, his struggling mental health. No one really knows who he is; he doesn't really know either.

So would he admit his flaws? To his close friends and family? Yeah. To anyone else? Nope, he'll try to be as perfect as possible and the flaws that he presents to the public are vague and generally admissible.

---This would brighten up his day because he's actually being asked to particiate in something he love AND people apparently love having him around. Also the use of his first name means that it's with someone he's close with, which is incredibly validating.

" 'Why, You Stuck-Up, Half-Witted, Scruffy-Looking Nerf Herder!' "

---Aiden adores Star Wars, he'd love to sit with someone and just banter about the films. He'll laugh to out of context quotes, memes, jokes that use Star Wars as an element, the list goes on and on and on. Basically guaranteed to put a smile on his face.

"Oh... you aren't like how I imagined you."

---Aiden strives to be perfect in the eyes of so many people. There's something that would hurt him a little if he realizes that he didn't live up to a fan's expectation of him. He can't imagine how heart broken if he met -say- Mark Hamil and the guy was nothing how he imagined. The idea that he could do that to a fan hurts.

"Don't you think that all these games and silly space fantasy stuff is a little childish... and you know, perhaps you should probably find hobbies that are more your age?"

---Aiden's relationship with childhood is kinda an unspoken theme I have going on with him. A lot of the things he loves now and an adult are thing that he'd been familiar with basically his whole life. Video games, tabletop, Star Wars, Lord the the Rings? He was into that stuff before he started working at Disney. This is the stuff that gives him comfort when he's in a bad headspace and all of it is kinda sacred in his head - someone telling him to give it up and grow up would be devastating to him. What would make matters worse, there's a fair chance he'd do it as a means of keeping that person happy with him. A lot of his childhood keepsakes were thrown out on impulse; so what he has left are prized possessions. A good example of this is his LotR blanket, one that he absolutely refuses to use when he'd under the influence in anyway. It feels like he'd taint the blanket if he did.

He puts SO much effort into his looks and has two personal stylists to make sure there's always effort put into his looks. He keep tracks of tends and makes a point to know what's in and what's out. He cares about what he wears, when he'll be wearing it, how he wears it, and what people think of him when he's wearing it. He can be pretty lazy with his hair on a bad day but when he has time, he has a full hair-care routine.

He has wardrobes built with certain events in mind but it's not like he'll publicly wear the same thing twice to a similar event (perhaps a modified version to a smaller event or when he's out with friends but his wardrobe is always up to date). He gets really particular about red carpet outfits and interview outfits. He's loyal to a handful of brands: Armani, Hermes, Calvin Klein, and Moschino immediately come to mind.

To top it off, he'll get like this with his friends as well. Their looks affect his looks and if the squad doesn't look on point, he might be a little pissy about it. (...so it's probably pretty obvious that he'd a snob at this point jkfkjsda)

I think this is a fun part about Aiden's character because this is actually him being pretty genuine. I think this comes from him taking comfort in knowing that he's allowed to be more expressive with his clothes as long as he's picking from the top brands; it's a way for him to quietly engage with a tiny part of the queer community while he's in the closet. Some of his fashion choices aren't genuine but the general act of being into fashion & style is very much a part of who Aiden is and will be around when he's being his authentic self. You can see his love for it carry over into his true interests where he'll often show up to a D&D session dressed as his character and even pour money into having a cosplay professionally made.

Another pride headcanon!

In terms of Aiden’s sexuality, I hope I’ve made his relationship with it clear but here’s the whole thing in one place:

Aiden is gay and he knows it. However, the public generally assumes he’s straight (with the exception of some of his stans). He tries to be that for the public - in some cases he tries to be straight for himself.

Aiden fears coming out for three notable reasons:

1) He’s afraid that coming out as gay will invalidate the abuse he went through.

2) He fears that he’ll be treated vastly different by the public

3) He fears being disowned by a portion of his extended family

Hi I decided to answer these in character because Aiden’s answers differ depending on the environment he’s in and notably with his age/maturity.

In public:

“There are plenty of queer actors that would love to hear these question but I’m not really qualified to answer any of them as I’m just an ally. However, I can tell you about my first crush: Zariah Erickson, she did a several episodes of Tall Tales and I was always excited to see her on set. My aunt even helped me pick out flowers to give to her. She said I was too young to have a girlfriend so she made me pick the yellow roses 😂.”

In private:

“Um... I haven’t really thought about it? Can I get away with saying my dad and my friends since most of them are famous and supportive idols? 😂”

“Oh. His name was Nathan, a castmate back in middle school. He’s out of the closet now which is cool for him.”

“Fuck I don’t know. I really don’t have anything good to add to the conversation.”

“I- I guess I’m tired of seeing characters who’s entire personality is that they’re gay and that they have to come out of the closet. I’m tired of seeing all the sex as well. It makes me feel- Ah, nevermind.”

In private/public, in the future:

“I remember when googling the names of Star Wars cast members in high school to see what they were saying about LGBT+ community. It’s kinda silly but I took comfort in knowing that the people I wanted to be like would’ve supported me unconditionally.”

“Oh gods. A castmate back in middle school named Nathan. I was head over hills, talking about him constantly to my parents and siblings. ‘Mom! Nate did the coolest thing on set today!’ Oh my gods, I guess some habits never die. When I’m crushing on a guy, I won’t stop talking about him and I can’t shut up when I’m talking to him.”

“High school was a scary time for me. I hated who I was and often blamed my sexuality for the awful things grown adults did to me. So, if I could give any teen advice, I’d tell them to be easier on themselves. Understand that you’re not broken. Remind yourself that your identity does not make anyone do anything. You are not responsible for the ignorance and the twisted actions of the people you’ll meet. With that, try your absolute best to love yourself. Try with everything you have - and I mean absolutely everything - because sometimes the only thing we have is ourselves.”

“For whatever reason, they like to make LGBT+ characters hypersexual and heavy drinkers - which are toxic stereotypes that are easy to internalize. It makes me so uncomfortable and I think it honestly fucked me up a little when I was younger. I relied on the media to tell me how to be gay because I was afraid to ask anyone. It made sobriety and addressing my sexual habits so much harder because I had attributed this unhealthy behavior to my identity.”
