about pararibulitis

it is a nerve disorder, where her brain can misinterpret signals from her nerves causing her to suffer through often painful hallucinations

it is chronic and hereditary

it is unpredictable and random, anything can trigger an attack

because it is due to signals from her nerves the hallucinations are linked to real-world stimulus, ie water on her skin can feel like acid

stress can increase the chances of having an attack

types of medication

quick-release

meant for use during an attack

out of the available drugs it is the easiest one to get addicted to

usually takes around 15 minutes to get into her blood stream, depending on glucose and protein levels, but it does mean she can be dealing with an attack for up to 40 minutes

every day medication

meant for every day usage

she takes two pills every six hours in order to keep her chances of an attack down

side effects of medication

like most medication it’s different for everyone

because of the rarity of pararibulitis side effects aren’t very well documented and the actual range isn’t exactly known

the effects that are listed for all the medications include insomnia, irritability, increased metabolism, and weight loss

something that is specific to amanda is that the pills suppress her appetite so she doesn’t eat for the entire day until late at night where she eats A LOT of food. she tries to stop this by eating small snacks throughout the day but sometimes this just makes her feel nauseous

Gripps is the one who does it most and it becomes a solid part of their routine as well as the early foundation of their relationship. Gripps also has a really good ability to guess which colour Amanda is in the mood for so she favours him.

Additionally, the rest of the Rowdy 3 tend to understand that it is their thing and more often than not leave them to it.

As they spend a lot of their time on the road and Martin or Amanda are the ones driving he doesn't have much opportunity to paint her nails.

Cross paints her nails most frequently after Gripps but he’s not as good at compensating for the movement of the van.

Vogel doesn’t have the attention span or patience to properly finish her nails so it isn’t rare that he only does one hand or a couple fingers, often leaving Gripps or Cross to finish it later. However, sometimes she leaves it a couple days unfinished to show Vogel she thinks he did a good job.

I feel like Amanda was definitely the kind of person to love storms in the way that she used the drums to get excess energy out in a loud and quasi-violent way, she always thought of storms as being the same thing for nature. She's the person who you look out of your dorm window in college and there's something either lying on the ground or dancing in the rain.

But as with a lot of things I imagine she had a bad experience with storms eventually due to her pararibulitis. One of the examples of the disorder she gives to Dirk is "water on your hand could feel like fire" and I think that is exactly what happened to her one time. She went out to enjoy the weather and it became a nightmare.

It would definitely be a fear she is now working on but it doesn't mean she has stopped flinching at the sound of thunder. Although I like to think the Rowdies have encouraged dancing in the rain again.

a big part of amanda's journey is inspired by what dirk said to her when they first met

so then why do you stay in the house? if the disease is in you, why does it matter where you go?

even if the rowdies hadn't helped her after the attack at the supermarket, she would have continued to take small trips outside the house. there would have been setbacks or times when she doesn't leave but i think she would be determined to start living with pararibulitis rather than living in fear of it.

now because the rowdies did save her and their abilities are able to help deal with the symptoms, her confidence increases faster. which is seen when she stays at todd's apartment she is lighter, happy to interact with people and even hugs farah.

the rowdies, cross and martin specifically, have a number of tattoos and since it's unlikely they're walking into a parlour i think gripps and martin are the artists of the group. gripps does most of the groups but martin has done some of his own. when amanda gets her first it's either some simple lettering TR3 or the incubus symbol behind her ear. eventually, she gets some fractal designs.
