first snow.
It was a typical December night, the hustle and bustle and the early Christmas cheer was something that he could feel through the patrons of the Summer Nights. It wasn't a full night nor was there much to do and Mingun found his mind flying off thinking about his final dissertation before graduation as he polished the beer glasses for the nth time.
"You can finish up early tonight. I can cover for the rest of the night." Mingun's looked up at his boss. "Hyung, it's okay I can finish--" he glanced at the bar and Hyunjae was right. He bit his lip and turned back to the older male. "Thank you hyung. I'll do a double shift next weekend." But Hyunjae just waved and shooed him off the counter. "Get some rest kid."
The day had been very busy, as he had just finished his class before his shift. He could feel his exhaustion seeping into his bones and all he wanted was to go home to Hyejin.

The chilly night air bit his cheeks as he stepped out of the bar, it was already winter but was yet to snow. It should happen any time now as they were well almost at the end of the year. He took out his phone and smiled, Hyejin must be finishing up at her studio. It was still early, earlier than his usual clock off. Wanting to surprise her, he called her.
"Yeobo-yah are you still at your studio? Do you want to meet up? The park near our apartment... I'll meet you there." he found himself smiling as he talked over the phone. "Alright. Be careful okay?"
He literally sprinted to their apartment and saw Hyejin. From where she stood, he looked at her. Suddenly, he felt like he was drenched with ice cold water. There she was patiently waiting for him, always so steadfast and full of love. And Mingun realized he had been neglecting her. His steps slowed, between his classes and his part time jobs he now he realized how he wasn't giving Hyejin the attention that she deserves.
"Did you wait long?" He asked, slightly panting. He reached for her gloved hand and gave them a squeeze. She would ask him what he was doing and how he had already finished working. Mingun's smile slightly dimmed. "I wanted to see you. It feels like I haven't been there for you the last couple of months..." he trailed off. He knew that Hyejin would deny and continued before she could voice herself out. "Hear me out first okay?" He met her eyes and breathed in. "I want to apologize. You have always taken care of me and I haven't been able to do the same for you." he kept his hands over hers. "I'm sorry and thank you." He closed their distance and pulled her into his arms.

"I know I'm still lacking. But I hope that you'll hang in there for a while more Hyejin-ah. Just a few months more and I'll graduate. I'll go get a good job at Songsan and work hard for the two of us. Please don't get tired of me okay?" He pleaded. His words were reassurances, but he felt like it was meant for him and he could only hope that it would reach Hyejin.
When he asked Hyejin to marry him, he knew it wouldn't be easy as he was a graduating medical student and is scraping every bit of his salary paying of his school loans and their expenses. Hyejin deserved more from him. He promised to take care of her and he wasn't doing a good job at it. But despite his shortcomings, Hyejin married him and became his pillar. She chose him. Him who has nothing to his name, who has still a lot to prove.
He felt her arms on his back and instinctively tightened his own hold. He would hear her soothing voice -- her words of reassurances and Mingun fought his best not to break down and cry. Instead, a choked laugh escaped his lips. At this point, he knew that things would be okay, still it would hard for a while more but they were fine.
And that's okay.
As they held each other, soft white fell from the skies. Mingun held her still as the first snow of the year fell. He looked up as he placed himself behind Hyejin, his arms still wrapped around her. "I hope that we can always look at the first snow like this. I love you Hyejin-ah..."
Years from then, while they wouldn't always be together at the first snow of every year, they would be looking at same skies with smiles.

"Yeobo-ah, have you looked at your window? It's snowing... It's beautiful this year as well. Don't forget to cover up okay? You get cold easily when I'm not around...I know... I miss you too... I'll be coming home soon...
I love you Hyejin-ah." @candyflcss
