HPHM OC Profile: Calliope Black
"No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world."
Name: Calliope Antigone Black
Nicknames: Callie
Birthdate: October 31st, 1972
Zodiac Sign: Scorpio
Blood Status: Pureblood
Nationality: British
Sexuality: Bisexual
Callie is not the MC, she's just an OC that attends Hogwarts at the same time as Jacob's Sibling! She's open for friendships and rivalries, etc.
Physical Appearance
Hair: Dark brown
Eyes: Blue
Height: 1.60cm (5 ft 3½)
Weight: 53kg
Skin Tone: Fair
Faceclaim: India Eisley
Background
Home: Raven Hall, a modest (by rich people standards) property owned by the Black family in rural England
Family
Mother: Cressida Black, née Rowle
Cressida is a Slytherin alumni. She works at the Wizengamot and leads a seemingly successful life. On the inside, she's struggling though. She's not happy with her life and her unhappiness is affecting her relationship with her daughter. She loves Callie but is misguided in her efforts to make her choices for her and attempt to keep her in line.
Father: Castor Black, the younger brother of Orion Black
Castor attended Hogwarts as a Slytherin. He's unlike most of his family members in that he is softer and less likely to spout blood-purist rhetoric. However, he is not close with his daughter and his marriage to Cressida is facing some difficulties. He has constantly lived in the shadow of his older brother and doesn't know how to stand up to him.
Uncle: Orion Black
Cousins: Sirius Black, Regulus Black, Bellatrix Lestrange, Andromeda Tonks, Narcissa Malfoy
Hogwarts
House: Ravenclaw (hat stall with Slytherin)
Career
11-17: Hogwarts Student
17->: tbd
Personality & Attitude
Callie is the quiet sort who prefers the company of books to people. She doesn't go out of her way to make friends and can often seem cold or even rude to people who don't know her, but she's quite friendly once you manage to break through her surface. Deep down, she feels very alone due to her parents being distant and being an only child. She struggles with creating meaningful connections but craves them deeply.
She responds best to speaking of common interests, like books or music. She's a little bit clueless about the Muggle world and finds learning about Muggle culture fascinating. Callie is creative and sometimes scribbles poetry in the margins of her essays or in little notebooks. She doesn't have ambitions to become a poet as a fulltime job, though.
Priorities: Friends, gaining knowledge, independence
Strengths: Clever, works well under pressure, loyal to loved ones
Weaknesses: A bit of a loner, a penchant for melancholy, can come off as rude
Stressed: When dealing with her family or studying for exams
Calm/Comforted: With her friends and in the library
Favorites
Colors: Black
Weather: Rain
Hobbies: Reading, writing poetry, Wizard chess
Fashion: Business casual, blacks and grays, some grunge vibes
Relationships
Significant Other/Love Interest: Talbott Winger
Callie and Talbott have been house mates since year one, but they only really started to speak during year 4, when Callie got her pet owl Orpheus and started to spend time in the Owlery. They both enjoy a comfortable silence and the quiet comfort of each others' company.
The two started dating during year 6. They were together until graduation, after which they broke up for a while but reconnected during the Second Wizarding War. They married and have one daughter together.

21. Clara
Author’s Note/Table of Contents
I was no stranger to Knockturn Alley, but I couldn't say the same about my sister.
The darkness enveloped me the further in I ran, swallowing what light streamed through the bustling friendly atmosphere of Diagon Alley until the warmth had completely leeched out of even the air around me. Wizards and witches shrouded in fabrics of pitch black, skin as gaunt and pale as a ghost's, loitered in the shadows, away from the streetlights that flickered with its dying power. As I turned a corner, eyes resting upon the storefront of Borgin and Burkes, I felt my arms tense up with the cold draft that blew past, and I shivered, goosebumps forming over my skin. Who knew that, in the span of only a few days, the place would feel like a freezer?
I quickly fished in my bag for something, anything, to wrap over myself to grant me some sort of warmth. My fingers brushed against the smooth surface of dried paint, and I instantly pulled the set of paint-splattered robes out into the open, throwing it on without a second thought. Andre suggested this to perform my chaos for Peeves in style, and it did serve a good souvenir and reminder of all that I went through to get my brother back. Handing Peeves the mischief masterpiece in exchange for the vault portrait was a major obstacle I had to leap over--needless to say, I was happy I executed it to the poltergeist's standards, but even happier that it brought me one step closer to bringing my brother home.
"Clara!"
The sound of my younger sister's voice as I slipped my left hand through the sleeve made me freeze, and I glanced up to see her jog towards me, almost tripping over the uneven cobblestone in her haste.
"Em!" I sprang forward just in time to catch her, and she fell into my arms, a heavy breath escaping our mouths simultaneously in a loud whoosh.
"So this is what Knockturn Alley looks like," Em remarked, her tone suggesting no admiration as she straightened up. "And this is why our parents didn't want us to come here."
"Sorry, Em. I just remembered last year, Duncan Ashe--"
"Hold up." Little Em slowly raised a finger toward another familiar figure, standing on the other side of the shop with her violet eyes gazing intently at the dark artefacts in the shop. "What is she doing here?"
Oh no. Somehow, without my knowing, Merula Snyde had entered Knockturn Alley as well. Last time it was Ben, and now...
I'd imagine this wouldn't be the last time I'd come here, but hopefully it would be the only time I'd be here to stop Merula from concocting whatever stupid scheme she had in mind here and return to finding Jacob.
"Merula Snyde," I eventually said, approaching her with my little sister behind me. "Fancy seeing you here at such a late hour."
"Should have known you'd come here," Merula sneered, looking up at me and little Em with a look of pure disgust on her face. "Come to take me back to Hogwarts and try to convince me that the 'kill or be killed' mindset is all but a waste of time?"
"What are you doing here anyway?" I asked her, folding my arms.
"Shopping at Borgin and Burkes. Not like it's any of your business," Merula responded. "Have you seen the cursed opal necklace in the window? It's supposedly claimed the lives of nineteen Muggle owners. It'd be perfect for Rakepick, don't you think?"
"You're right. That isn't my business to know," I retorted. "I should have known that you'll still be out here plotting to kill Rakepick."
Beside me, little Em pulled out her wand from within her robes, and she pointed it at Merula. "Don't you dare get any ideas," she warned her.
"Right. Like a little baby badger's supposed to threaten me well enough to stop me from performing the perfect payback for Rakepick," Merula said with a scoff, shaking her head. "You're both awfully quick to judge for someone who's slumming through Knockturn Alley, too."
"For a better reason than yours, I'll bet," little Em growled. "We're here to find Jacob. Clara thought he might be here, though I'm not sure why. Have you seen him?"
Just as the words left her mouth, a sudden crack pierced through the air, and I placed a hand on Em's shoulder as the person materialized in front of us, the effects of the Apparition he performed leaving him completely unfazed. His finely cropped black hair still bothered me completely to this day, but the firm expression he had on his face, the stony glint in his brown eyes, remained familiar to my memory, his long brown coat slightly dirtier now after his release from the portrait in the last vault.
"Now I have," Merula piped up meekly.
Little Em just stared in absolute shock at our older brother, who changed so much from the last time he saw either of us at home. Her eyes were wide, her mouth was agape, and she had completely lost hold of her wand, which fell to the ground with a hollow clatter. Years of absence from the family rendered him almost unrecognizable to her--and, admittedly, to me when I first saw him again after so long. She just looked at him as if he was suddenly a stranger, and for a few tense seconds, no one moved.
"Jacob." A smile slowly made its way over my face as I eventually ran forward and hugged him, just like we did when we reunited in the last vault. "There you are! We've been looking all over for you since I heard you were spotted at Hogwarts."
"It's good to see you too, Pip," Jacob said, nodding as he took a good look at me. "I'm so glad you're alright." Then his eyes landed on little Em, still trembling slightly on her feet. "And...is that our little sister? Em?"
"You've...changed so much," little Em remarked quietly. "Is that really you, Jacob?"
Jacob nodded, extending an arm to her. "Of course it's me, little Pipsqueak! I'd never forget about my youngest sister. And you've just started at Hogwarts, too!"
"Yup." Little Em's tense worried face soon melted away, and as she hugged her older brother I felt a spark of warmth tingle through my limbs, a bubble of hope rising through my being. If only our parents were here to see this family reunion. At least then they'd see that Jacob was alright, and we'd fix everything together after all.
Meanwhile, Merula looked just about ready to puke. "Ugh, come on. Anymore of this sappiness and I'll perform the Slug-Vomiting Charm on myself."
"Where have you been?" I asked Jacob then. "I haven't seen you since the Cursed Vault."
Jacob glanced up at me, though his arm was still firm around little Em. "I know, Pip. I'm sorry. But I had to try to stop Rakepick from getting away," he explained. "Besides, I knew you'd trust me to find you again, like I said I would. Along with the added bonus that is our sister," he added, smiling down at little Em who just nodded, squeezing Jacob's hand.
"I suppose all that matters is that you're here now," I said. "Which is great, because I have so many questions..."
Instantly, Jacob's face fell, and he shook his head. "I'm sorry, Clara. As much as I'd like to indulge you in your inquiries, we've got no time for that. Right now, we have to duel."
"Wait. Duel?" I swore I didn't hear that right. Why would my own brother want to duel me?
"This family reunion just got interesting," Merula remarked snidely, a low chuckle escaping her lips, and I made a mental note to slap her the next moment I got.
"Yes, Clara. I think an assassin is after both you and Merula," Jacob told me then. "And only you two specifically, though I'm not sure why--but there's no time to explain. You're just going to have to trust me."
Now little Em turned just as pale as one of the Knockturn Alley denizens, and she shook her head in disbelief. "Jacob, you're being serious, are you?"
"They know nothing about you, little Em, so you're safe for now," Jacob reassured her--or at least attempted to. "Or as safe as you can be. I'm doing whatever it takes to protect you and stop any assassin in case my suspicions do end up being true. But you may find yourself coming face to face with them one day, so you must be prepared. Duelling will help me make sure you are prepared, in the case that an assassin does attack."
An assassin, and a possible attack. Of course I knew that with all the events that preceded this very moment, more and more danger would continue to tumble towards me, snowballing until it reached the point where it could spin me off my feet--and not in a good way, either. At the sound of this, Little Em immediately leaned into Jacob and shook her head at me, her hand gripping tighter on his. I almost didn't even notice how she still looked like the little Em she had been even before Jacob went missing--so tiny, so helpless.
So vulnerable.
"Let an assassin try. I'm ready for them! It'll be a good warm-up for Rakepick," Merula piped up then, puffing her chest in pride. "Your sisters, on the other hand, don't understand that it's kill or be killed."
"Just because neither of us agree with your mindset does not make us weak," I shot back. "Besides, there are many ways to settle arguments. Killing doesn't have to be the only way."
Jacob shifted his weight to his other foot, and he let go of Em's hand. "As much as I hate to admit it, Merula has a point. Dark witches and wizards like Rakepick won't hesitate to hurt or kill you. You have to do whatever it takes to survive."
"Ha. Serves you right for disagreeing, Lin," Merula chipped in. "At least someone in your family has some sense."
"Wait, but--"
"Clara, we can't keep at this right now. We have to duel," Jacob interrupted me.
"Jacob, hold on just a second, alright? Everything's happening so--"
"Don't hold back. I want to see everything you've learned while at Hogwarts."
And hence, Jacob moved away, his wand at the ready. I barely got myself prepared when he shouted, "Slugulus Eructo!"
If Merula had her desires to choke up slugs, well, she'd get her wish sooner than expected had she been here in my place. The slick, slimy substance held such a vile taste as I burped up a slug, squishing it firmly under my foot, raising my wand at him. "Confringo!"
The blasting charm should have had a major dent in his stamina, yet Jacob still remained standing firm. He managed to recover in time to Disarm me, and I almost lost my wand to the gutters three feet away.
Spell after spell was cast with relentless power and force, and I felt the sweat break out on my forehead in a fine sheen, my wand arm feeling heavy after every spell. This shouldn't be different from all the other duels I've had before--with Merula, with the Troll, with Acromantulas and the Hungarian Horntail and the werewolves and even several dark wizards. Yet I knew Jacob wouldn't go easy on me. In some way or other, he did have more experience with magic. My only question, then, was when did he get his new wand?
"Episkey!" he cried next, healing himself with a wave of his wand over his head.
"Incendio!" I shouted then, watching as a jet of fire emerged from the tip of my wand.
The burns eventually did it. Jacob sighed and nodded as the flames died away, and he put his wand away, approaching me and my sister again with a nod of approval.
"Huh. I'm impressed, Clara. You've really learned how to hold your own," Jacob remarked, beaming. "Clearly you're not the little kid who needs my help chasing the Ghouls away anymore."
"No, of course I'm not, Jacob. We've all grown to learn how dangerous everything has become," I told him firmly. "That's why you should let me help you with Rakepick, with this assassin...with everything."
But Jacob shook his head. "I told you, this is my fight. I dragged us into this, so it's my responsibility to finish it. I can't let you all get hurt any more than you already have."
"We have to do something to help!" little Em chipped in then, shaking her head in refusal. "Everyone back home misses you terribly, Jacob. At least give us something to hold on to!"
"Pipsqueak, you already do. You'll always have your sister to hold onto. I'll come back when I can, but I have to go. I can't afford to let the trail go cold," Jacob said.
Now Merula jumped in surprise. "Wait, but what about my duel?"
"Jacob, at least answer some of my questions first," I said then, eyes widening in worry. "Like, how could you come to Hogwarts and not see us? Why are you looking into Mahoutokoro? And what do you know about the last Cursed Vault?"
"I'll explain when I can, I promise. But right now there's no--"
"No time, I get it." I sighed and shook my head, gesturing little Em to come over. "You don't seem to have much time for either of us anymore--or any of our family, really."
"Pip..." Jacob sighed as well and gave me one last hug, his arms firm around me before extending another arm to little Em. As the three of us hugged each other, I thought I could hear Merula fake-gagging, but I couldn't care less. It wasn't easy to get this opportunity to see him in this tight circumstance. Who knew when I would get this kind of chance again?
"We'll talk again soon, Pip and Pipsqueak," Jacob promised us. "Until then, watch your backs."
That said, he Disapparated with a loud crack, disappearing into nothingness in front of our eyes.
"Jacob, wait!"
No, there was no calling him back. I sighed again, holding my little sister close as she hugged me round the waist.
"You can't seem to hold onto anyone anymore, can you, Lin?" Merula teased me then with a laugh.
"Shut it, Merula!" I snapped, raising a hand and slapping her hard across the cheek. I know I shouldn't have, but at this point I was tired of Merula trying to butt into what was meant to be a meaningful reunion, even if it did have that foreboding note in the meeting. The sting from the slap tingled in my fingers, red hot in my anger. "My brother is trying to protect us from this assassin and Rakepick. I'm sure he'll come back once this is all over."
Merula visibly flinched at the sudden slap as well, her hand raised against her cheek which began to swell and redden beneath her fingers. "Yeah. I hope so. I'd like to see him again," she simply responded then once she's recovered well enough to volley another attack. "He's surprisingly...cool for someone who's related to you."
Cool, huh? That was the first time I've heard Merula say something that wasn't trash at my brother.
"What do you mean, someone cool?" little Em asked Merula then, folding her arms.
"Nothing. Forget I said anything," Merula snapped at little Em then, though I could see both her cheeks reddening and flushing--definitely not a side effect from the slap I gave her.
"Wait a second. Are you interested in our brother?" I inquired her carefully, the words dripping carefully from my tongue like venom.
At this, Merula shrugged and smiled sheepishly, her expression suddenly bashful. "N-no, of course not!" she denied. "We just share similar priorities is all."
"I'm not buying it. My brother is nothing like you, Merula," I told her defiantly.
"Right. Keep telling yourself that," Merula responded, rolling her eyes in annoyance. "But it's clear that your brother understands that when you're up against someone like Rakepick or this assassin, nothing is off the table."
Nothing. Right. Everything for me has already been laid on the line, but that didn't mean I had to kill to prove my worth and way of dealing with the circumstance. Jacob may have agreed with Merula on that point, but I still found myself disagreeing wholeheartedly with this mindset. Doing something unforgivable when your own life is on the line...would such an exceptional case still be made an acceptable one that leaves no guilt upon the conscience?
"Anyway, shouldn't you be worrying about your own social life instead of mine?" Merula asked me then.
"My social life? My friends are still as well as they can be, and I'm still connecting with them as best as I can," I said. "Or at least my sister's trying to keep our ties going. We're doing fine with that, thank you very much."
"I truly admire how naive you are, Lin."
"What do you mean anyway?"
"Cedric Diggory, the new star of Hogwarts," Merula responded finally. "He's only a first-year, but he's all the school can talk about. And that means you and your sister are no longer topics of gossip."
"Oh, I know Cedric, alright," little Em said then. "He’s my housemate and friend. If anything, I'm kind of happy he's found his place at Hogwarts. So what does it matter if my sister and I are no longer topics of gossip?"
At this, I thought I saw her hand raise toward the rose in her braid, but she lowered it after five seconds of holding it in the air. Something must have really bothered her more than I thought.
"You say that now, baby Lin, but see for yourselves the attention Diggory gets and we'll see if you feel the same way," Merula said.
"Right. Whatever," I groaned. "Anyway, we better head back. You can stay all you want if it makes you happy."
And just as little Em and I reached the tunnel to head back to Diagon Alley, Merula called us back.
"Remember, it's kill or be killed. And if you're not careful, your popularity won't be the only thing you'll lose this year..."

Rowan Khanna was the brave, loyal, brilliant, and ambitious only child of a pair of wand-tree farmers. Whatever she expected when she first arrived in Diagon Alley, it was not running into the younger sister of “delinquent” Jacob Cromwell, Carewyn, but from the moment the two collided, Rowan immediately knew her life at Hogwarts was going to be a million times better and more exciting than she could’ve imagined. Neither Carewyn nor Rowan had ever had a real friend before, but Rowan immediately warmed up to the passionate, yet sensitive girl -- especially when the two went into the bookstore together and Carewyn just couldn’t help but hum songs under her breath as they picked out their schoolbooks. Carewyn and Rowan’s instant fondness for each other was justified when Rowan told off some older kids for bullying Carewyn about her brother and when Carewyn later stood up to Merula Snyde to protect Rowan, even if it resulted in her losing house points. As the years went by, Carewyn changed a lot, developing from an overly sensitive, self-conscious, and hot-tempered girl to a stylish, poised, confident Mama Bear, while Rowan remained as studious, single-minded, and socially awkward as ever. That did result in a bit of tension between them for a short while, as Rowan felt like Carewyn was sort of “leaving her behind” and felt insecure about how the only friends she really had were ones she made through the more popular and charming Carewyn. Fortunately in their fifth year, after a small flare-up, the feelings cooled. It soon became clear that they each thought they were holding the other back, and that Carewyn herself envied Rowan for being able to just be herself and focus on her dreams, rather than being what everyone else needed her to be. This heart-to-heart made the two girls closer than ever...and yet, because of that, in their sixth year, Rowan was one of the first to get a bad feeling that Carewyn was holding something back and hiding her true emotions again. Even Carewyn’s other friends like Ben, Penny, Talbott, Chiara, and Charlie had started to notice -- but Carewyn seemed almost physically unable to rely on them, as if she were Atlas carrying the world on her shoulders and refused to inflict that heavy burden on anyone else. Knowing that her friend wouldn’t ask for help until it was far, far too late, Rowan made the decision to follow Carewyn around in secret from a distance, just to make sure she was there, in case Carewyn ended up needing her. Unfortunately the time Carewyn ended up needing Rowan also ended up being the worst day in Carewyn’s life...and the last day of Rowan’s. But although Rowan’s life ended, her legacy lasted far beyond her, forging chains of love and fealty between all of the people she’d touched in life and inspiring them to fight, grow, and live for her.
#hphm#hogwarts mystery#rowan khanna#playlist#okay to start with?#four of those songs are actually covered by anthem lights in their 'friend medley'#which I associate with carewyn's fellow leaders in the circle of khanna bill charlie ben and merula#so it's like they're evoking rowan when they're showing support to carewyn post-Redacted ;~;#but yeah besides that...I'm sorry rowan as elphaba and belle brings me WAY TOO MUCH JOY OKAY#rowan was that brilliant and beautiful and perfect and she would've changed the world!!#they would've regardless of their gender#once again I used neutral colors even though my rowan is slytherin just like carewyn#since rowan is in mc's house in the game and I know other people who see rowan as ravenclaw even if their mc isn't

HPHM OC Profile ✧
Aspen Samwise
" You got the same fire as your parents, Aspen, the fire of a fighter. Yet even brighter. I'm sure you'll make Slytherin proud. "
Full Name: Aspen Silverwood Samwise.
Nicknames: Penn, Penny, Sammy, Pipi (by her grandparents).
Gender: Female.
Birthday: 25th of June, 1975
Born: Glasgow, Scotland.
Parents: Ariel Samwise, Heather Silverwood S. - both Purebloods, Slytherins, and Scottish.
Siblings: None, she's a precious only child.
Ethnicity: Scottish (with Spanish and Slavic roots).
Sexuality: Heterosexual.
Blood status: Pureblood.
MBTI: ESTJ-A
Hogwarts House: Slytherin
Appearance
Eyes: Her eyes are light blue with tiny brown specks.
Hair: Her hair is a dark brown very close to black, with white streaks scattered throughout, two falling right at the front, some back on her nape. It's straight with some wave to it. She has had it in various lengths throughout her Hogwarts years.
Height: She's a short baby - I'm bad with heights but I'd say 1,66m (5'4"ft).
• Her most prominent characteristic is her Piebaldism - that she got while her mother was pregnant and was hit by a miscast curse. It's all over her body, taking over big patches of skin, her hair and face. Her parents taught her to appreciate it and she grows to like it as it makes her look unique and stand out in the crowd.
• She likes her nails done and dark, but only starts having them long when she's older.
• She has both ears pierced and doesn't like wearing any makeup in daily life - but on special occasions, man, nobody can hold her back.
Magical Aspects
Wand: Ebony wood with Unicorn hair core, 11½", brittle flexibility.
Ebony is happiest in the hand of those with the courage to be themselves. Frequently non-conformist, highly individual, or comfortable with the status of outsider, ebony wand owners have been found both among the ranks of the Order of the Phoenix and among the Death Eaters. The ebony wand’s perfect match is one who will hold fast to his or her beliefs, no matter what the external pressure, and will not be swayed lightly from their purpose.
Patronus: Gemsbok. The largest and best known of the four species of oryx, or straight-horned antelope. It is one of the best desert-adapted large mammals, capable of surviving in waterless wastelands where many animals would perish. A horned creature like her father's Marco Polo Sheep and her mother's Addax.
Animagus: Eurasian Hobby. From the moment she found out Indigo was an animagus, she pestered her for months to help her become one as well, so in the middle of her fourth year, Indigo and Talbott help her through it, except she has to fetch the ingredients herself.
• She picks the Eurasian Hobby (type of falcon) after some research for its speed [speeds up to 99 mph (159 km/h)] and size - which is way smaller than Talbott's Golden Eagle - making a perfect animal for blending in and making a quick escape.
Abilities: Being really effing annoying and a good dancer. Oh, magical ones? Yeah, none.
Boggart: She has two major boggarts in her life:
Failing to protect those she loves by being incompetent, and it takes the form of someone she loves (alternating between family members) and an unknown person yelling at her for being unable to protect them.
Then, hurting someone she loves because she has become too obstinate and revenge thirsty, someone dark. It's combined with other fear that is seeing Diego hurt, so it's him she sees as the person suffering because of her.
Amortentia: Bonfires - she associates the smell and sound with bonfire parties her parents used to throw -, Crisp cold air - she's a Scot who loves the cold -, Peppermint toads and spicy salsa - she might have or haven't tasted it in a certain someone's kiss.
Miscellaneous
Pets: A white Bearded Dragon, Sugar Cube.
Things she always carries with her: Her wand, a dagger, a beanie, peppermint frogs, and snacks for her pet.
Lucky Amulets: A wasp-shaped brooch of gold and precious stones that's a family heirloom.
Best Friends
Barnaby: Her first and best Slytherin friend, because at first they were spying on each other - Barney for Merula and Aspen for Indigo - but it goes as one might expect from these two idiots. He helps her in the Forbidden Forest and she helps him with homework. She's the only person he's truly emotional with because he knows she won't judge him. She knows he had a crush on her cousin and pushed him to ask her out.
Linda Hoàng (OC): Her best girlfriend, tiny and chubby, the cutest and quirkiest Slytherin anyone could meet. The first Slytherin female seeker in many years. A hands-on creatures lover - the one getting her hands dirty, literally. Half Vietnamese and muggle-born - yeah, nobody knows what she's doing in Slytherin.
Andre: Just as sassy as Aspen and the one to give her fashion advice. He basically takes the young Slytherin as his "apprentice" - partially afraid she would become like a mini Merula/Ismelda. He teaches her dangerous spells the teachers don't.
Ismelda: For many years they don't get along, Ismelda's humor is too dark and cruel for her taste, and she's overall very shady. That until water starts to get shaky on her and her cousins' side and they need her help. She's forced to get to know her better when she finds out Phoenix has a crush on her, and through that, she discovers they're not that different after all.
Murphy: She has a crush on him for a while, but even when that dies down, she sticks around because she loves hearing him talk about strategy and thinks he's one of the smartest people she has met in Hogwarts. They play intense chess matches.
Jae: They share the same chaotic energy so it's just natural. He's her loyal detention companion and they enjoy having walks around Hogwarts talking about nothing in particular.
Academics
Favorite Classes:
Charms
History of Magic
DADA
Muggle Studies
Least Favorite:
Divination
Care of Magical Creatures
Arithmancy
Favorite Professor: Snape. She's a sassy, non-conformist, annoying Slytherin, what you want me to say?
Least Favorite: Quirinus Quirrell. He was her DADA professor for a while and she couldn't stand his stuttering, she also hated his classes.
Quidditch: She considered joining the team for the longest time but decided to pursue other passions, besides she would have to play against Indigo and other of her friends which she preferred not. She would've made a great seeker though.
Favorite Team: Montrose Magpies. Just like her family. She really excited when Indigo decided to start supporting them as well.
The last of my Silverwood family trio. Slytherin might be the house I'm least compatible with, still, I love coming up with her story and personality.

Artemis Hexley and the Secret Staircase
Chapter 1: The Return to Hogwarts
A/N: so it begins, a second year at Hogwarts! Ft. Both Penny and Tonks on roller skates (not sure which of them on roller skates I prefer...) Warnings: child neglect
The summer holidays were drawing to a close, and all around the country, children were making the most of their final few days of freedom, dreading the inevitable return to the classroom. Artemis Hexley was not one of them.
Artemis was about to start her second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and she couldn’t wait to go back. She missed the castle itself, the towers and the courtyards, the enchanted ceiling of the Great Hall, the stairs that liked to change, and her cosy and surprisingly well-lit dormitory in the dungeons. She missed her lessons, and the feasts, and the ghosts. In a peculiar way, she even missed the scathing insults of the school bully, Merula Snyde.
Most of all, though, Artemis missed her friends: clever and caring Rowan Khanna, nervy but nice Ben Copper, pretty and popular Penny Haywood, and funny and feisty Dora Tonks, who everybody referred to by her surname only. Artemis had kept in contact with all of her friends over the summer, sending letters back and forth via owl post. She had read all about Penny’s holiday in Cornwall with her family and the trouble Tonks had gotten into after she put green hair dye in her mother’s very expensive occamy egg yolk shampoo. Artemis had met up with Ben and Rowan in Diagon Alley to get all their school things, and had even spent a weekend staying with Rowan, who was her best friend, and her family on their tree farm, but it wasn’t the same as seeing all her friends every day at school.
Artemis’ home life was quite a lonely one. Her older brother, Jacob, had run away from home when she was eight and a half, after he had been expelled from the very school that Artemis was so desperate to return to. Jacob’s expulsion and disappearance had been the subject of many rumours, especially after a well-known journalist had published a book on the subject. All Artemis knew for sure was that Jacob had been trying to find a series of Cursed Vaults built within Hogwarts itself, and had gotten far too carried away with his search. Most people thought that the Cursed Vaults were just a myth, but during her first year at Hogwarts, Artemis had discovered evidence that the Vaults were not only real, but had caused a room in the castle to become filled with magical ice. She, Rowan and Ben had had to save Merula Snyde from the ice after she touched it and became trapped inside. Artemis was anxious to find out more about the Cursed Vaults, and what might have happened to her brother.
To get to Hogwarts, students had to catch the train from Kings Cross Station. The Hogwarts Express departed from Platform Nine and Three Quarters every year on the first of September. Artemis’ house was only a thirty minute walk from the station, and most of her luggage had been packed since the middle of August. What with her all her robes, textbooks, cauldron, and beloved ginger cat, Fergus, she had quite a lot to take with her. The night before the train was due to depart, she asked her mother if she would help her to carry it all.
“If you need me to,” was her mother’s reply.
“I wouldn’t ask you if I didn’t,” said Artemis. She frowned for a moment before continuing, “and it would be really great if you could come and see me off. Rowan’s mum and dad said they’d like to meet you.”
“Who?”
“You know, Rowan,” Artemis said, trying not to sigh. “My best friend. I went to stay with her and her family at the start of the month, remember?”
“Of course I remember,” said her mother.
This may or may not have been true. Artemis never really knew how much her mother even listened to anything she told her, let alone what she remembered from their conversations, which were few and far between, and never lasted long. Sara Hexley, already emotionally delicate after the death of her husband, had never recovered after her son left home one night and never returned. Ever since Jacob had gone missing, she had become almost reclusive, and although she most days she was able to get up and dressed, make food and work from her study, she never seemed able to show any affection towards her daughter.
“So will you?” Artemis asked again. “Come to the platform and see me off, I mean?”
“I don’t think so,” said Mrs Hexley. “It’s not like you need my help once you’re there.”
“It’s not about needing your help, Ma,” Artemis said. “I’d like you to come, and meet my friends and wave goodbye. That’s what all the other parents do.”
“Exactly. It will be busy, and crowded, and you know how much I hate crowds. You probably won’t even be able to see me waving.”
Artemis sighed. Her mother hadn’t been too bothered about crowds earlier that week. A letter had arrived from her Aunt and Uncle in Dorset, carrying the news that their pet Kneazle, Milly, had just given birth to a litter of very hairy ginger kittens. It didn’t take long to work out how this had happened. Artemis and Fergus had stayed with Aunt Tina and Uncle Newt at the start of the holidays, and Fergus had been quite taken with Milly. The following morning, despite both Artemis’ and Fergus’ loud protests, Mrs Hexley had stuffed the cat into a small wicker cage and carried him through the bustling streets of Camden Town to the Muggle animal hospital on Royal College Street. Fergus had returned from the hospital wearing the sulkiest expression Artemis had ever seen and a white collar that made him look like a lampshade.
“Please,” she persevered, “come and see me get the train. I don’t want to be the only one who doesn’t have all their family with them.”
Artemis regretted her words as soon as they passed her lips. Her mother's whole body stiffened, and she snapped her head towards Artemis, and the two of them made eye contact for the first time since Artemis didn’t know when.
“You won’t have all your family with you,” said Sara Hexley, coolly. She stood up and walked past her daughter, leaving the room.
Almost as annoyed with herself as she was with her mother, Artemis left the house and went into the garden. She climbed the tree in the back corner, and pulled some of the leaves off its branches, throwing them to the ground. Below her, Fergus danced around on the grass, chasing the falling leaves.
*
Artemis didn’t see her mother until the next morning, when she was getting ready to leave for school. She had been half-expecting her mother to go back on her promise to help carry her belongings to Kings Cross, but Mrs Hexley emerged from her bedroom dressed and ready to leave as Artemis was struggling to get Fergus into his cage, and the two of them walked to Kings Cross in a frosty silence that was only broken when they reached the corner of the road outside the station.
“I’ll see you at Christmas, maybe,” Artemis said to her mother.
“Maybe,” Mrs Hexley replied. “I’ve been thinking about possibly spending the holidays back home.”
Artemis was confused for a moment, before she realised what her mother meant. Artemis’ mother had grown up in America, and her grandparents still lived there. Artemis hadn’t seen her grandparents since she was small, and had never been to visit them.
“That sounds great,” she said, nodding her head enthusiastically. It was thrilling, the idea of travelling so far away and meeting relatives that were almost strangers.
She waved goodbye to her mother outside the station, and made her way through the crowds to the barrier of platforms nine and ten, where there were already a few students and their families waiting to travel through the barrier to get to Platform Nine and Three Quarters.
“Wotcher, Artemis,” said a titian-haired girl whose face Artemis didn’t recognise, but whose voice and mannerisms were familiar at once.
“Tonks!”
Artemis’ friend Tonks was a Metamorphmagus, a witch who could change her appearance at will. Tonks hugged Artemis energetically and introduced her to her parents, a large-bellied blonde wizard and a witch whose light brown hair had a greenish tinge to it.
“Dad, can you help Artemis with some of her things?” Tonks asked her father, as the crowd around the barrier thinned. “I can take Fergus for you, if you like, Artemis.”
“I don’t know if that’s a good idea, Nymphadora,” said Mrs Tonks, looking apprehensively at her daughter and the cat basket. Artemis knew why she was concerned; Tonks was incredibly clumsy.
“Mum! For the last time, don't call me Nymphadora!”
Once Artemis, Fergus, and the Tonkses went through the barrier, they found more familiar faces. Rowan Khanna was already waiting on the platform with her parents and her two tiny, toddling siblings, Ashok and Ela, as was Ben Copper. Ben’s Muggle parents looked very uneasy. As the adults shook hands, a girl with long blonde hair whizzed through the barrier on a pair of brightly coloured shoes with wheeled soles and rolled towards them, her family trotting behind her.
“Hello, everyone,” said Penny Haywood, coming to a stop between Ben and Artemis and beaming at the group. “It’s just wonderful to see you all. Tonks, your hair looks lovely. You know I almost didn’t recognise you.”
“What? Oh!” Tonks frowned momentarily, before her eyes widened as if she were just realising something. She screwed up her face, then instantly looked much more like her normal self, her hair returning to its usual shade of bubblegum pink. “Mum told me my pink hair would draw too much attention from the Muggles,” she explained, oblivious to the startled looks Ben’s parents were currently giving her.
“Penny, what are those?” Rowan asked, pointing at Penny’s feet.
“Roller skates,” said Penny, brightly. Seeing the confused looks on the other girls’ faces, she added, “Muggles wear them sometimes.”
“What are they for?”
“My birthday. Mum and dad let me open my presents a few weeks early because we’ll be at school when it’s my actual birthday.”
“No,” Rowan shook her head. “I mean, generally, what are rolling skates for?”
“For fun, of course!” Penny giggled. “I’ll let you all have a go once we get on the train.”
“Bagsy the first turn,” Artemis said, earning herself a scowl from Tonks, who had been eyeing the shoes enviously.
Penny nodded, before skating back along the platform to her parents, and dragging them over to meet the others. Penny’s little sister, who looked like a miniature version of Penny, peered at them all from behind her mother’s legs.
Artemis started loading everybody’s trunks onto the train as her friends said goodbye to their families, before the five of them boarded the train.
“Let’s find a compartment where we can wave from the window,” said Penny, and she weaved her way through the students mingling in the carriage, who all did double-takes at her feet.
“Have you ever worn those roly shoes, Ben?” Artemis said, watching Penny roll away.
“Once,” said Ben, and he shuddered. “My cousin let me try on hers at the park and I fell into the duckpond.”
After the Hogwarts Express had pulled out of Kings Cross station and the carriages were clear, Penny took off her roller skates and let Artemis, Rowan and Tonks have a go at using them.
“I think I’d rather just watch,” said Ben, when he was offered the shoes. He met Artemis’ eye and she could tell that he was remembering his cousin and the duckpond.
The girls spent the next hour and half taking turns to skate up and down the length of the train, their fun put abruptly to a stop at lunchtime, when Tonks collided with some force into the trolley lady, sending a plague of Chocolate Frogs hopping down Carriage D. They received a stern telling-off from final year Hufflepuff prefect Jane Court, and returned to their compartment.
*
The rest of the journey passed without incident, and after several hours of playing Exploding Snap and eating the copious number of sweets that they’d bought from the trolley lady in an attempt to pacify her, they arrived at a dark Hogsmeade station, just as they had a year previously. A familiar looking giant with a bushy black beard and a friendly face was swinging a large lamp and beckoning to the new students. It was Hagrid, the gamekeeper, with whom Artemis was good friends. She ran over to greet him.
“Yeh aren’t a firs’ year anymore. Yeh’ll have ter get the carriages like the others,” said Hagrid, after a quick greeting. “Get down, Fang!”
Fang, Hagrid’s young boarhound, had recognised Artemis, and had jumped up to say hello, nearly knocking her over as he placed both his large paws on her shoulders.
“He’s grown, hasn’t he?” Artemis said, patting Fang on the head. He’d only been a puppy when Hagrid had bought him in the spring, and now he was so tall he reached her waist. She wondered quite how big he’d be once he reached his adult size. “I’ll bring Fergus over to see you both soon!”
Artemis waved goodbye to Hagrid and Fang, and joined her friends where they were waiting to climb into one of the many horseless carriages that took the older students from the station to the castle.
“It’s less nerve-wracking this year, isn’t it?” Ben said, watching Hagrid herdthe first years towards a set of boats across the lake. “I’m glad we don’t have to go across the lake and get sorted again.”
“It was fun going in the boat,” said Artemis. Seeing Hogwarts castle for the first time as she and Rowan had floated across the lake was one of her fondest memories. “I wasn’t so keen on the Sorting Ceremony though.”
Rowan looked at her sympathetically. Artemis hadn’t gotten off to the best start at Hogwarts, thanks to her brother’s bad reputation. The students of Hufflepuff had been very apprehensive about Jacob Hexley’s younger sibling being sorted into their house, and their welcome had been noticeably colder for her than it had been for Penny, Rowan or Tonks.
Ben hadn’t been sorted into Hufflepuff house at all. He was in Gryffindor, which meant that when they arrived in the Great Hall ready to watch the Sorting Ceremony, he had to leave the girls to sit with his own house.
“We’ll see you in class tomorrow, Ben,” Artemis said, as Ben left to join the sea of red and gold at the Gryffindor table.
After the Sorting Ceremony and Start-of-Term Feast were over, Professor Dumbledore the Headmaster stood up and introduced the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, Professor Topsy, a bald man who was hiccoughing as he poured himself a drink of something that did not look like pumpkin juice.
“Now, before you all go to bed, I must, as I do each year, remind you all the the Forbidden Forest is off limits to all students,” said Professor Dumbledore. “In addition to this, the corridor at the easternmost end of the fifth floor is also currently out of bounds following an incident last summer. Any students found trying to enter the corridor will be severely reprimanded.”
“Isn’t that the corridor you and Ben found the room with all that ice in?” Tonks whispered to Artemis and Rowan.
“It is,” Rowan nodded. “Do you think this means that room is still full of the Cursed Ice?”
“Must do,” said Artemis. “I could maybe go and see if it’s still there at lunchtime tomorrow.”
“I don’t know if that’s a good idea, Artemis,” Penny said, her blue eyes filled with concern. “You heard Dumbledore, you could get in a lot of trouble.”
“And it’s dangerous,” Rowan added. “You don’t want to end up like Merula, do you?”
Artemis sighed. School bully Merula Snyde had become completely encased in the ice when she attempted to investigate the room, and she had needed to be saved by Artemis and Rowan.
“You’re right,” she said. “We should leave the ice room well alone. I’m much more interested in finding out more about the Cursed Vaults anyway.”
“About that,” said Rowan, “I had a look into those runes we found in the ice, remember they mentioned the ice knight and vanished stairs?”
“I remember. And?”
“I couldn’t find out anything about an ice knight, but there are a few staircases in Hogwarts that no longer exist. I took some notes, in case you wanted to go looking for them.”
“Of course I want to go looking,” Artemis grinned at her best friend. “Rowan, you are the greatest, did you know that?”
“We are right here, Artemis,” said Tonks, gesturing at herself and Penny.
“I didn’t -”
Artemis stopped talking as Tonks’ face also split into a grin.
“Got you,” she winked. “So, whats the plan, then?”
*
Classes started the next morning after breakfast in the Great Hall. Ben Copper, who was closer with the four Hufflepuff girls than he was with the other boys in his dormitory, joined Artemis and her friends as the morning post arrived.
Artemis and Rowan told Ben all about their idea to investigate the missing staircases that could possibly lead the way to the Cursed Vaults.
“Do you want to help us, Ben?”
“I don’t know,” said Ben, fidgeting in his seat. “I want to help you, but the Cursed Ice last year was so scary. If that’s just what’s coming out of the Cursed Vault, imagine what will be inside it!”
Artemis considered this for a moment. She’d never thought about what might be inside the Cursed Vaults before. Until the summer, she’d never even thought that they were real.
“Maybe there will be some clues,” she said, eventually. “It might lead me to Jacob.”
Her friends all looked at her sadly. Artemis looked away from them and saw that Merula Snyde was standing a short distance away, watching them all carefully.
“Do you think she’s been listening?” Rowan asked, following Artemis’ gaze.
“Probably,” said Artemis. “When has Merula ever been able to mind her own business?”
It turned out that Merula had definitely been listening to their conversation, as they discovered in their very first lesson of term. Potions lessons took place in the dungeons with the intimidating Professor Snape, and the Hufflepuffs has the class with the Slytherins.
Taking her usual seat across the workbench from Artemis and Rowan, Merula hissed at them both.
“I heard you two whispering at breakfast,” she hissed. “What’s this about you sticking your big nose in where it isn’t wanted?”
Artemis sighed a deep sigh.
“It’s lovely to see you, too, Merula,” she said, sarcastically. “How was your summer?”
“Shut it, Hexley. I thought I told you to leave the Cursed Vaults to me.”
“That’s funny,” said Artemis, “because I thought you said ‘please save me from this ice, Artemis’.”
“I would’ve gotten myself out of the ice eventually without your help,” Merula bristled. “I’m -”
“The most powerful witch at Hogwarts,” Artemis and Rowan said in unison, rolling their eyes at one another.
“Exactly. You don’t want to mess with me, or with the Vaults.”
“You know, Merula, I thought that after what happened last term you’d maybe not hate me quite so much.”
“No, I still hate you,” said Merula, with a sneer. “That’s not changed.”
“Okay, I get it, we aren’t friends. Why don’t we just agree to stay out of each other’s way?”
“I want you out of my way,” Merula snarled. “I’ve told you before, I’m going to find those Vaults. You and your little loser club would be better off giving up now.”
“Whatever, Merula.”
“I’m serious. Back off. And if you don’t, don’t blame me if you or any of your pathetic friends end up going the same way as your mad missing brother.”

LMAO is this in the quintaped sq??? - YUP. Merula is stupid as always and bless her heart. Also, just want to say that i love you draw merula as a gry shorty. I saw some arts when people draw her as tall but honestly she just radiates "short queer lad" energy.
sdfkj ive ALWAYS imagined merula as the shortest person in the cast shes like 5 ft and shes gotta compensate for that so thats part of why shes just . so much

THE MAGE
1st Wand: Beech, 11 inches, bendy, and a unicorn hair core
The true match for a beech wand will be, if young, wise beyond his or her years, and if full-grown, rich in understanding and experience. Beech wands perform very weakly for the narrow-minded and intolerant. Such wizards and witches, having obtained a beech wand without having been suitably matched (yet coveting this most desirable, richly hued and highly prized wand wood), have often presented themselves at the homes of learned wandmakers such as myself, demanding to know the reason for their handsome wand’s lack of power. When properly matched, the beech wand is capable of a subtlety and artistry rarely seen in any other wood, hence its lustrous reputation.
Unicorn hair generally produces the most consistent magic, and is least subject to fluctuations and blockages. Wands with unicorn cores are generally the most difficult to turn to the Dark Arts. They are the most faithful of all wands, and usually remain strongly attached to their first owner, irrespective of whether he or she was an accomplished witch or wizard.Minor disadvantages of unicorn hair are that they do not make the most powerful wands (although the wand wood may compensate) and that they are prone to melancholy if seriously mishandled, meaning that the hair may ‘die’ and need replacing.
2nd Wand: Cherry Wood, 12 inches, slight flexibility, and a Thestral hair core
Considered highly prestigious in Turkey, Iran, Uzbekistan, Russia, and Japan, cherry is an extraordinarily powerful wand wood and demands, to summize from Ollivander, “owners with the highest self-control and mental strength.” Though Ollivander specifies this for dragon heartstring wands, such qualities are recommended for any cherry wand owner, lest they desire for their wand to run the show.
These witches and wizards believe in fate or destiny, and so they believe things happen for a reason. There is acceptance that they don’t have complete control over what happens to them, but that they also have control over their own actions. They may be hyper-responsible as a result and may even blame themselves for events unrelated to themselves.
They try to live like every day as their last– they do not want any regrets to follow them like ghosts. In doing so, they can be honest to the point of bluntness and will try everything they can. They also try to see the beauty in everything, and believe immortality is more of a curse than a gift. As cliche as it may be– transience, to them, is what makes life on earth beautiful and worth it.
These people will fight on a day to day basis for what they believe in, which is one of the reasons for this wand’s reputation of choosing warriors. So, despite their acceptance of fate, they are a stubborn folk and refuse to yield.
With the belief of thestrals as omens and bad luck, that the wand maker and the owner must have seen someone die and embrace death as a concept, as well as the tricky nature of this core make thestral tail hair a rare core to have. Many times when a person is matched with such a core, especially in pure blood families, they will have the person try another thousand wands, just to avoid the image associated with it. However, when such a pairing is allowed to happen that witch or wizard will never find a more faithful companion. This core has potent magic, and is among the most intelligent and sentient of wand cores. Owners are social, gentle with others’ feelings, and love to have philosophic conversations late into the night. They may appear morbid to friends, and have a fascination with death. These people often have a superior sense of direction, and rarely become lost or lose their possessions. Curiously, most of the small group of known thestral hair core owners have neutral resting faces, leading other to think they are perpetually either melancholic, cranky, or tired.
