pov: you just woke up next to him.
( the first self indulgent picrew edit i did of ryuto on this blog! tbh, this is specifically ryuto as depicted in redo because i have yet to find any picrews that could portray him as i properly envision him to look in reality, but i'm still kinda happy at how this turned out! )

Tumblr media
This time around, he'll turn, affixing her with a cold glare... for by this point, he was already running out of patience. "And how exactly is the way you treat others any better?" came his calm retort. Honestly, as far as Ryuto was concerned, Hana had no right to complain when she was every bit as terrible to him and while yes, he would hardly call himself a saint, that didn't exactly justify the things she did or said.
"While yes, I may deign to not be unnecessarily rude whenever we're in the presence of your mother and Koji-san, I at least know better than to raise my voice at you, call you derogatory names, or humiliate you around them... yet can you yourself say the same? Furthermore, you're terribly mistaken if you think I'm only kind to you to make myself look better, for I only do so to make it seem at least one person actually likes you... which is truly more for your sake than mine, yet if you must spin the story around to make me out to be a backstabbing villain, then by all means, do so," Ryuto then adds... and it was true, because not once had he ever called her a 'bitch' to her face, let alone yell at her, regardless of whether or not people were around.
Why, if nothing else, he was the only person to have ever truly stuck around despite how unpleasant she was, because deep down inside, he wanted to believe she wasn't a lost cause and that somewhere in that rib cage of hers, she had a heart... as small as it was. Ultimately, though, Ryuto would bring himself to emerge to his feet, because no matter how charitable he could be, even he had limits. "And just know that when there's finally no one else you can turn to, I won't be there to pick up the pieces. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be returning home... since clearly, you value your own solitude more than you value your own relationships." And with that, he'll proceed to saunter his way out past the door. Unbeknownst to Hana, however, Ryuto would end up paying for the rooms they had rented out of sheer spite, only to later vanish into the night.
@mugunghwc
why, she wondered. why was she putting up with this in the first place? why even hang out with someone who would always talk down on her, as if she was a child while he was the ’ mature adult ’ who, at the same time, was capable of bringing up his neurodiversity as a way to justify his behaviour. “& because your brain is ’ wired differently ’, i should just accept what an asshole you could be? what have you done to try to understand by viewpoint, other than call me immature, or imply i’m being ableism?” certainly, not enough other than make wrongful assumptions based on body language alone, or chastise her for not meeting his high standards. where was this consideration when he took a jab at her job? but as always, she’d remain the villain of the story ; too tired to even argue at this point.
“when you act all nice to my mother, to my father & koji… is that also for my sake? because what you show to ‘em, isn’t what you show to me.” which made him a hypocrite in her eyes. “you wouldn’t dare to act the way you do with me, if koji was around. always so diligent, always the good boy. hana was tired of his act, but her voice no longer held anger or frustration. if anything, it sounded as if she had given up for today. arguing with ryuto felt like arguing against the wall, because she was supposed to just accept he was different & leave it at that, while she’d remain being scrutinized over the way she felt—called immature or made to feel as less for having an issue with it.
Tumblr media
her hand was brought up, waving it dismissively at him. “me & my nonsensical brain have no will power to continue this conversation, so why don’t you go on & call your driver? maybe if you pay him enough, he will kiss your feet since you’re oh-so mighty.” she never thought she’d think this way, but hana definitely sympathized with kobato for it.

@badheart — continued from here ;;
When she finally turns, regarding him with what appeared to be a flabbergasted expression, his eyes would only widen just the subtlest bit; after all, Ryuto didn’t believe he said anything to potentially set Fang off. Why, as far as he was concerned, he had been perfectly civil with her, which made her reaction all the more unfathomable to him.
Tumblr media
“...Not particularly? After spotting you, my curiosity was simply piqued,” Ryuto then answers truthfully, because in all truthfulness, he simply felt like talking to her once he notices her checking out Yoshitoki Oima’s latest work. Of course, most would probably assume he would be snobby enough to believe manga wasn’t true literature, but contrary to popular belief, even he would resort to flipping through a Shonen Jump magazine every once in a while. “That was the intention, yes,” Ryuto soon goes on to nonchalantly nod.
“I wanted to hear your thoughts regarding that manga; after all, it’s not often I would encounter women who seemingly like that particular genre,” he adds while failing to mention he did actually remember what happened between them. Ryuto just chooses not to hold a grudge over what happened because he figured the heat only served to exacerbate her mood back then... and though he did imply Fang lacked the intelligence he sought in his ideal girl, he still manages to entertain the notion he might have potentially judged her far too soon.
Why, if nothing else, it wasn’t like he knew her all that well yet, so on the off chance she turns out to be way smarter than he had initially given her credit for, he was willing enough to apologize despite how shallow her attraction towards him was.

"...Her taste in sweets," Ryuto easily answers. Of course, one would assume he'd have difficulty really responding to such a question, but surprisingly enough, it didn't even take him a moment's deliberation to indulge the stranger's curiosity. "As disagreeable as I might personally find her, I could at least always count on her to have a refined enough palate for pastries."

The longer he proceeds to observe her with those same bored, light caramel-hued eyes of his, the more Ryuto managed to be convinced this woman truly was slow. Honestly, as much as he thinks conversations didn't always have to be particularly deep, they still managed to have so little in common together, he wonders if he would have been better off chatting up a waitress at some gaudy café or something.
Tumblr media
"...You only just managed to realize this now?" came his subsequent deadpan retort, laced with slight disbelief... and mere moments later, Ryuto then goes on to shake his head. "While I will at least acknowledge you seem a little smarter than Kobato, you make for a much duller conversation partner in comparison, that there would have been little point with centring ours around the intricacies of shogi," he goes on to bluntly remark. Honestly, judging from how Ryuto seemingly paid no mind to how hurtful his words were, it could be inferred that he either didn't care or didn't pay much heed to the effect they might potentially have on her. Regardless, it doesn't take long for him to gradually emerge up to his feet until he was no longer situated by the bench connected to what looked to be a stone picnic table.
"Now, if you'll excuse me, Himari-san... I shall be taking my leave; after all, I still have some studying left to do back at home, and unlike some people, I don't have the time to entertain further meaningless prattle from absentminded women," he states so matter-of-factly, no annoyance at all could be detected from his tone. Why, if anything, the words he uttered sounded more colder and mechanical, to the point where most might reach the understandable conclusion he didn't have emotions.
Tumblr media
"You're not wrong." She knew her limits, she knew where her skills laid, and she didn't like to pretend that she could exceed them. She was simple-minded and possessed a basic education, but she tried not to let that get to her while in the midst of a conversation.
Nothing ruined an interaction quite like a thirty-year-old woman bursting into tears.
A small, feeble smile toyed with her faintly painted lips. "I'll take it. At least you're being honest, which is more than I can get from some people."
Her feelings would recover. They always did, and it didn't make her less inclined to speak to him.
Tumblr media
"Oh!" Oh. She stammered and gaped, but she recovered far quicker this time than any instance before. "Huh, that's. . . I never noticed."
It made sense when she considered that her attention usually focused on him rather than their surroundings. All of this new information, paired with the fact that they had only just met, was a smidgen overwhelming.
"I approached you to talk about shogi, and we didn't talk much about it at all. I'm so sorry!"

"Happy Birthday, Birthdayboy," Fang basically greeted him with wide spread arms, before slowly lowering them, realizing he would not get the message and extra bow down to her for an embrace. Worth a try. "Ah, anyway... I got you something, no take-backs." Reaching behind herself for her bag to pull a letter out, in which he found a hand-painted piece in the size of a postcard. When painting it, it had been another reminder that she still does not know him at all, so she went the safe way and simply tried to mimic her favorite style and drew a clearing, which could be possibly mistaken for a scene in almost any ghibli movie. Perhaps he liked the feeling of real paint on his fingers and would appreciate her craftsmanship, even if small. "Maybe you got a pinboard," she suggested. "Or the bin." Keeping her smile, considering she would never find out anyway.
Tumblr media
            it's ryuto's birthday » always accepting!
"Ah... thank you very much," Ryuto politely remarks before initiating a half bow. Of course, he had an inkling Kobato probably told her beforehand, hence why he doesn't question how Fang knows. Still, upon seeing her spreading her arms further out towards the sides, he's quick to raise a brow, for it wasn't as if he understood such subtle social cues to be able to deduce what particular meaning was behind it, but regardless, he soon finds himself shaking his head, as if in complete disbelief over the fact she went this far... for him, no less.
"That truly wasn't necessary, Gao-san... but since you came all this way, I suppose I shall indulge you by seeing this gift you so kindly procured for me. Now, what was it?" Ryuto states before watching her pull out what looked to be a small, hand painted piece of a clearing, which immediately has his gaze soften... and slowly, he'll extend a gloved hand to gently pluck it up from her hands while letting his gaze roam across it.
"Interesting. Did you paint this yourself? It's certainly not bad; in fact, this scenery reminds me quite a bit of Hayazaki Miyao's cinematic pieces... and if nothing else, would serve as suitable placeholder on my desk," Ryuto finally remarks, and sure enough, he'll lift his other palm to rest idly along his cheek as his gaze shifts down towards Fang once more.
Tumblr media
"...Well, at any rate, I don't hate it," came his eventual admittance, which for once, sounded rather sheepish coming from his lips. "Where do you live, Gao-san? Perhaps I can escort you back home... without Kobato being around to hassle us."

Ryuto, do you feel at fault for making people feel upset or mad at you, or are they at fault? ( is it something he thinks about during the day?)
Tumblr media
            unprompted asks. » always accepting!
Tumblr media
"...I suppose it depends on what they were initially upset about," Ryuto answers after a few seconds had managed to pass. "If it's simply a matter of me telling a teacher their answer to a question was incorrect, then no, I do not believe myself to be at fault, for being content with mediocrity is a privilege only the willfully ignorant can have; however, there are admittedly instances where I'm baffled when others react with animosity towards me... and in that sense, I may question whether or not what I said was truly cause for them to be so angry."
Why, frankly speaking, he knows that compared to everyone else, he wasn't exactly all that emotional, meaning he would mostly conduct himself in a calm, rational manner. Of course, when it came to Hana, he rarely ever felt guilt for making her upset since it was about high time someone from her social standing would be equally unpleasant to her as she was to those she ended up belittling, but when it came to Fang who he never meant to hurt by rejecting her... he did admittedly feel at fault.
"Then again, I am also aware I can be unintentionally insensitive; therefore, I am attempting to communicate better without resorting to being a disingenuous version of myself," Ryuto finally adds. Granted, it might be better to just mask his autism and pretend to be pleasant in order to avoid problems right from the very get go, but alas, consistently doing that all the time proved exhausting, to the point where even he couldn't manage it.

"...Or perhaps what you need instead is to take a break," Ryuto bluntly cuts in before casting a judgmental glance at the to-do list Dyn'lo ended up jotting down. "Surely, you don't intend on spending the whole rest of your day, doing menial chores?" came his deadpan query. Honestly, the servants might be overjoyed at having an extra helping hand, but considering Dyn'lo already did more than enough around the mansion, Ryuto couldn't help scrutinizing him a bit. Why, at this rate, he might even end up falling asleep, washing the windows.
"If you are in need of something better to do, then come play shogi with me," he then states. Naturally, Ryuto words it less like a request and more like a demand... making it rather apparent he didn't quite approve of Dyn'lo's 'to-do' list.

Was it really such a surprise that despite everything, he still appreciated his father for raising him? Honestly, Ryuto would have thought that to be a no-brainer considering he owed a great deal to his parents, but judging from Dyn'lo's reaction, something tells him he hadn't quite expected that answer, prompting him to shake his head. "As his son, it's only natural for me to adhere to filial piety," he frankly states. Why, even if Daiju wasn't all that perfect, it's rather clear he loved him, to the point where Ryuto would respond in kind... albeit a bit less enthusiastically.
Regardless, he's quick to pause when Dyn'lo questioned his decision on entering the medical field if only because he actually raised a good point. Why, before he had succumbed to Astral Syndrome, he was largely undecided on which career path he should take and kept stressing over his future, that had it not been for his experiences in Redo, he would probably have been stuck, being a consultant at his mother's investment firm. Considering it was a long story, however, and Dyn'lo wasn't privy to all the details pertaining to where his soul went during his hospitalization, Ryuto decided to spare him the whole fantastical tale when next he parted his lips.
Tumblr media
"Simply put, I met an imbecile who had broken the Hippocratic Oath and abandoned all hope after the surgical procedure he performed not only ended in failure, but caused his patient's legs to cease properly functioning. Rather than wallow in despair or give up like he did, however, I decided to prove to him that nothing was impossible by making her walk again. ...Furthermore, I also promised a paraplegic girl I would restore her ability to move, hence why I am now studying to become a doctor."
Tumblr media
Listening rather intently , the Forger finds himself nodding along to the other’s words , smiling faintly.  ❝ A pity , in truth , ❞ Dyn’lo remarks , ❝ I would think those who had the means to do so would feel the urge to provide for others rather than continue to step over them. ❞  Or upon them , is the unsaid piece.  Still , what would the Dustling know ?  He’s only tasted this richer world a scant few times , perhaps his understanding of it can be considered a bit w a n t i n g .
❝ … Oh ? ❞  This catches his attention , the mentioning of how Ryuto’s parents ultimately passed the verdict on his staying with the family.  Dyn’lo hums in thought , considering something.  ❝ I suppose , then , I shall have to thank them. ❞  Though , there were only so many ways Dyn’lo knew how to show gratitude in a way that m a t t e r s ( after all , would simply thanking them suffice ? he wasn’t entirely sure ) .  ❝ Hm … Perhaps I should make them something as well , when I am done making our own gift. ❞  Thinking aloud , he doesn’t expect Ryuto to regard such an off-handed thing with an answer ( nor does he have to ) .
The response to own question is enough for Dyn’lo to give the other a surprised sort of look , furless brows quirking up slightly and feathers ruffling a bit.  ❝ And it is rather admirable that you should want to do that for him , I believe. ❞  He agrees.  There’s more hanging off the end of that , as if he’s hesitant to add on his piece.  In the end , he refrains from mentioning anything else about the topic ( it’s not exactly one that sits well with him , anyways ) .  ❝ Your family has an investment firm , ❞  Dyn’lo states , chasing one of the tidbits from earlier ; funny how this always happens , he intends to go see to a task but instead winds up sinking wholeheartedly into a conversation with his young master instead.  ❝ And you want to go into medical instead ? ❞  Just as before , merely curious.  He supposes it suits ; Dyn’lo cannot exactly picture Ryuto of all people managing to deal with others the way he says his mother tends to.

"There will come a ruler Whose brow is laid in thorn Smeared with oil like David's boy" Duty. Strength. Resignation. You were told to do things and you did them. The world is something that was put into your hands and that you must deal with - so you will. You have a rigid back and steady hands, either metaphorically or physically. Is it nature or nurture ? You don't know. You are tired of being steady. You dream of feeling alive. Not that you aren't, but, sometimes, it's hard to remember that there is a heart between your ribs. As much as people might criticize Ryuto for being a pompous rich kid, he’s still arguably quite kind. It’s just that his kindness tends to be more so subtle, to the point where it’s often reflected through his actions rather than his words.
For example, if he ever finds out a student at his school is being bullied, he will personally use his power and influence to have the perpetrators expelled and punished. Like, Ryuto may not go out of his way to comfort the victim, but you can bet he would gather evidence, threaten them with it, and make it apparent he won’t let that sort of behaviour slide, so he pretty much makes Kitaouji Academy a safe place for essentially everyone except bigots.
He’s also the type to verbally call out able-bodied folks for using a space designated for disabled people, so in that sense, he’s different from your average Japanese citizen who would rather stay silent than cause a scene. Ryuto, though... he has no qualms insulting a Karen if he notices they’re inconveniencing a person with a wheelchair. Seriously, he absolutely refuses to be a bystander and will confront assholes to such an extent that they would feel uncomfortable in public.
Honestly, rather than look down on those who come from less than affluent backgrounds... Ryuto actually sides with them more than he sides with the wealthy - in other words, he does not exactly suffer fools, no matter where they happen to stand on the social hierarchy.

"Ah... thank you. I take it you have been making good use of the kitchen during my absence?" For once, a soft smile plays along his lips while he grips the fork Dyn'lo had so graciously set aside for him. Honestly enough, Ryuto hadn't expected to be handed a snack this soon after returning home from a long day at school, but either way, it was much appreciated, considering it felt like he had spent the whole afternoon, dealing with one idiot after another.
On top of that, Kobato wouldn't stop complaining about how finding a parking space proved so damn difficult, due to how everyone and their mother showed up for the swim meet that took place at Kitaouji Academy, so he's really quite thankful to have something sweet to replenish his energy.
"Regardless, I am pleased to learn you are a talented baker. Tell me, Dyn'lo... did the servants teach you how to make this or were you always adept in making such delectable treats?" came Ryuto's eventual inquiry as he pushes his fork through a thin slice of tiramisu cake.

Text
Naturally, Ryuto is quick to roll his eyes, because of course, Kobato would prefer giving another girl the time of day than him; still, it wasn't as if hearing that particularly earned his ire. Why, as harsh as it sounded, he frankly didn't care. It's just that since Kobato was within his company, Ryuto felt the need to shame him for making his lust so evident, because while Sonia might be able to pardon his skirt chasing tendencies, he was nowhere near kind enough to do so.
"...Yes, yes. Tell me something I don't know," came his eventual dry retort, but before Kobato could think even to respond back, the waitress comes hurrying over with their orders. No sooner does she does make her way towards them, his chauffeur, as could be predicted, sports a huge grin along his lips... only, as time goes on, and it's made doubly apparent that Kaori was more so enamoured with Sonia than him, Ryuto would watch him subsequently deflate within his seat.
Of course, not long afterwards, he'll shoot Kobato a 'What did you expect?' look, before sending her off with a polite "Thank you very much, miss!" and an affable enough smile to express his appreciation for her service. This time around, though, it wasn't entirely insincere, because if nothing else, he liked that Kaori prevented Kobato from even getting a single word in, to the point where he can later tease him about it.
"C'mon, Kobato, stop sulking already and go eat your food," Ryuto finally goes on to order while pouring tea from into his own cup. Truth be told, he was tempted to lightly kick his chauffeur's shin from underneath the table, but Sonia was around, so he opts not to. "Fine! Ugh... why is it that the ladies are never into me?" Kobato grumbles.
Thankfully, though, Sonia's idle chatter distracts Ryuto from actually answering as he plops a few sugar cubes into his tea.
Tumblr media
"Rather than everyone being 'nice and friendly', Sonia-san, I'd claim that at least one of them is infatuated with you; therefore, it only stands to reason they would give you preferential treatment. You, however, are naïve, so I'm not surprised you have yet to ascertain Kaori-san's feelings are less platonic in nature," he states with voice remaining deadpan, prompting Kobato to nearly choke on his katsu sando.
Sure enough, Ryuto then goes on to nod as he stirs his tea around, using a spoon; needless to say, it seemed he was very intentionally ignoring his chauffeur. "Indeed. Today has been most particularly trying," he sighs. "As for me, I am thankful you have chosen a peaceful, sophisticated place far removed from the typical decorum. Perhaps I'll have Kobato take me here next time... though, I doubt I could somehow coerce him to join me since I do not possess your quaint, feminine charms."
Now she was truly baffled. Sonia had not only decided to move on from his previous taunting, she'd wanted to try and accommodate him and his preferences, or rather a distaste, regarding crowds. Turning to face him, she gave Ryuto another one of her thin-lipped, patience being tested smiles. "It's not that I particularly enjoy being ordered around most of the time, but I was taking into consideration your aversion to crowds and noise, and thought you would be the best judge of what you would find comfortable."
She'd had half a mind to add that she wasn't opposed to letting him and Mr. Kobato find a table to themselves, either: if her company continued to upset him so, she would've been content to have her order for takeaway and make her way back to Hope's Peak Academy on her own. She'd tried to do a favor for him and, despite it all, continued to stick up for him whenever Mr. Kobato used that horrid nickname for him. Maybe, she thought as they finally selected a table, she should've stayed out of it and asked Kobato to simply take her home after the roadside funeral.
But Ryuto had looked so hollow, so beside himself, that she couldn't not offer her help. And now she'd be made to regret it. At least there was calming music, walls of used books, and sweets to temper the pain a bit. "He's a friend, Kazamatsuri-san," Sonia murmured, though her gut instinct was to agree with him: she wasn't quite sure why she made the effort sometimes either. Except for the idea of Ryuto having no friends who didn't desire something from him other than his company didn't sit well with her. "I am not one to leave a friend when they need help. Whether they realize it or not."
Taking her seat, she busied herself with reading over the nearest wall lined with books, taking note of what was newly shelved since the last time she'd visited, while Ryuto chided Mr. Kobato for his lustful gaze. Though the server in question, a curvy young woman with long, dark hair and a pretty smile, hadn't even seemed to notice Ryuto's driver staring at her. Instead, she carried their orders on a tray with eyes only for one person at the table.
"Sonia-san!" She beamed, setting down the drinks and food for the princess's dining partners before setting down her pot of tea, a teacup and saucer, and her dessert, with one smaller plate still remaining on the tray. "It's been weeks since you stopped in last! I was hoping you hadn't found somewhere new to read."
Tumblr media
"No no, Kaori-san, I've just been busy with school and work," Sonia assured her with a smile. A pink tinge emerged over Kaori's cheeks, likely in relief. "But today was a good day to visit: this café has a calming presence."
"Good! Oh, that's great!" The young woman exclaimed, doing her best to hide her glee and failing miserably. "Because I was hoping you might enjoy a small slice of this new cake I've made. The boss says we can't sell it officially yet, but I can...well, hand it out to favorite customers. But I didn't think to bring any for your friends! I'm sorry."
None of the other tables, so far, had been offered free cake, but Sonia accepted it anyway and set it in the middle of the table to be shared. "We can share. Thank you, Kaori-san! I shall be sure to share with you my compliments when we have finished."
The pink tinge in her cheeks had turned into a bright crimson as the woman uttered her thanks and disappeared back into the kitchen. Sonia chuckled, pouring herself her first cup of tea from her pot. "That's Kaori-san, she's one of the servers and cooks here," Sonia explained as she mixed in her preferred amount of sugar and milk, "But she's in university now to become a professional pâtissier. Everyone is just so nice and friendly here! That's the best part, besides the books and the relaxing atmosphere."
It had, clearly, gone over Sonia's head that for one big reason, there was no chance in hell that Kobato Kazamatsuri would be getting anywhere with Kaori, even if he tried to chat her up. "Well, I think we've deserved sweets after a day like this one!" She decided, scooping up a bite of her own dessert onto her fork. "It's more exciting than the usual parties, though perhaps not in a good way. It almost makes me miss passed hors d'oeuvres and a coat check. Almost."

“I can comprehend, of course. For me, conversing with you always felt natural somehow,” Ryuto admits, allowing his gaze to momentarily grow soft as he lowers his vintage mug filled with rich, creamy hot cocoa. At this point, they were currently seated across from each other inside the high glass ceiling dining room of a private luxury suite he had reserved with not a single person in sight, except for the staff members scurrying around. Thanks to his influence, though, they were assured absolute secrecy, meaning they could enjoy their morning, completely undisturbed if they so wished.
“Around you... I’m comfortable, just being myself; in fact, I do not even have to pretend I like you,” Ryuto then goes on to add, allowing the corners of his lips to widen a tad smidgen. Why, unlike the vast majority of ladies from society, he actually enjoyed spending his precious time with Yuno. Due to this being the case, Ryuto endeavours to treat her kindly; after all, their relationship was one he intended on keeping and so, he’ll continue treating her kindly.

How does Ryuto cope with Kobatos idiocy?
Tumblr media
            unprompted asks. » always accepting!
Tumblr media
To be honest, Ryuto just sighs a lot and has a habit of massaging his temples every time Kobato proceeds to behave like an idiot. He also would find himself adding copious amounts of sugar into his tea whenever he comes back home and would try to take his mind off him by reading or doing brain exercises.
He'll also probably complain about him to @strywoven's Dyn'lo, but that would only be occurring in a separate AU due to Dyn'lo being a fantasy-esque muse in modern setting... but yeah, long story short, he somehow manages.
