Of course, one would assume he'd have difficulty really responding to such a question, but surprisingly enough, it didn't even take him a moment's deliberation to indulge the stranger's curiosity. "As disagreeable as I might personally find her, I could at least always count on her to have a refined enough palate for pastries."

"Happy Birthday, Birthdayboy," Fang basically greeted him with wide spread arms, before slowly lowering them, realizing he would not get the message and extra bow down to her for an embrace. Worth a try. "Ah, anyway... I got you something, no take-backs." Reaching behind herself for her bag to pull a letter out, in which he found a hand-painted piece in the size of a postcard. When painting it, it had been another reminder that she still does not know him at all, so she went the safe way and simply tried to mimic her favorite style and drew a clearing, which could be possibly mistaken for a scene in almost any ghibli movie. Perhaps he liked the feeling of real paint on his fingers and would appreciate her craftsmanship, even if small. "Maybe you got a pinboard," she suggested. "Or the bin." Keeping her smile, considering she would never find out anyway.

    "Ah... thank you very much," Ryuto politely remarks before initiating a half bow. Of course, he had an inkling Kobato probably told her beforehand, hence why he doesn't question how Fang knows. Still, upon seeing her spreading her arms further out towards the sides, he's quick to raise a brow, for it wasn't as if he understood such subtle social cues to be able to deduce what particular meaning was behind it, but regardless, he soon finds himself shaking his head, as if in complete disbelief over the fact she went this far... for him, no less.

    "That truly wasn't necessary, Gao-san... but since you came all this way, I suppose I shall indulge you by seeing this gift you so kindly procured for me. Now, what was it?" Ryuto states before watching her pull out what looked to be a small, hand painted piece of a clearing, which immediately has his gaze soften... and slowly, he'll extend a gloved hand to gently pluck it up from her hands while letting his gaze roam across it.

    "Interesting. Did you paint this yourself? It's certainly not bad; in fact, this scenery reminds me quite a bit of Hayazaki Miyao's cinematic pieces... and if nothing else, would serve as suitable placeholder on my desk," Ryuto finally remarks, and sure enough, he'll lift his other palm to rest idly along his cheek as his gaze shifts down towards Fang once more.

    "...Well, at any rate, I don't hate it," came his eventual admittance, which for once, sounded rather sheepish coming from his lips. "Where do you live, Gao-san? Perhaps I can escort you back home... without Kobato being around to hassle us."

    This time around, he'll turn, affixing her with a cold glare... for by this point, he was already running out of patience. "And how exactly is the way you treat others any better?" came his calm retort. Honestly, as far as Ryuto was concerned, Hana had no right to complain when she was every bit as terrible to him and while yes, he would hardly call himself a saint, that didn't exactly justify the things she did or said.

    "While yes, I may deign to not be unnecessarily rude whenever we're in the presence of your mother and Koji-san, I at least know better than to raise my voice at you, call you derogatory names, or humiliate you around them... yet can you yourself say the same? Furthermore, you're terribly mistaken if you think I'm only kind to you to make myself look better, for I only do so to make it seem at least one person actually likes you... which is truly more for your sake than mine, yet if you must spin the story around to make me out to be a backstabbing villain, then by all means, do so," Ryuto then adds... and it was true, because not once had he ever called her a 'bitch' to her face, let alone yell at her, regardless of whether or not people were around.

    Why, if nothing else, he was the only person to have ever truly stuck around despite how unpleasant she was, because deep down inside, he wanted to believe she wasn't a lost cause and that somewhere in that rib cage of hers, she had a heart... as small as it was. Ultimately, though, Ryuto would bring himself to emerge to his feet, because no matter how charitable he could be, even he had limits. "And just know that when there's finally no one else you can turn to, I won't be there to pick up the pieces. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be returning home... since clearly, you value your own solitude more than you value your own relationships." And with that, he'll proceed to saunter his way out past the door. Unbeknownst to Hana, however, Ryuto would end up paying for the rooms they had rented out of sheer spite, only to later vanish into the night.

why, she wondered. why was she putting up with this in the first place? why even hang out with someone who would always talk down on her, as if she was a child while he was the ’ mature adult ’ who, at the same time, was capable of bringing up his neurodiversity as a way to justify his behaviour. “& because your brain is ’ wired differently ’, i should just accept what an asshole you could be? what have you done to try to understand by viewpoint, other than call me immature, or imply i’m being ableism?” certainly, not enough other than make wrongful assumptions based on body language alone, or chastise her for not meeting his high standards. where was this consideration when he took a jab at her job? but as always, she’d remain the villain of the story ; too tired to even argue at this point.

“when you act all nice to my mother, to my father & koji… is that also for my sake? because what you show to ‘em, isn’t what you show to me.” which made him a hypocrite in her eyes. “you wouldn’t dare to act the way you do with me, if koji was around.” always so diligent, always the good boy. hana was tired of his act, but her voice no longer held anger or frustration. if anything, it sounded as if she had given up for today. arguing with ryuto felt like arguing against the wall, because she was supposed to just accept he was different & leave it at that, while she’d remain being scrutinized over the way she felt—called immature or made to feel as less for having an issue with it.

her hand was brought up, waving it dismissively at him. “me & my nonsensical brain have no will power to continue this conversation, so why don’t you go on & call your driver? maybe if you pay him enough, he will kiss your feet since you’re oh-so mighty.” she never thought she’d think this way, but hana definitely sympathized with kobato for it.

    "...I suppose it depends on what they were initially upset about," Ryuto answers after a few seconds had managed to pass. "If it's simply a matter of me telling a teacher their answer to a question was incorrect, then no, I do not believe myself to be at fault, for being content with mediocrity is a privilege only the willfully ignorant can have; however, there are admittedly instances where I'm baffled when others react with animosity towards me... and in that sense, I may question whether or not what I said was truly cause for them to be so angry."

    Why, frankly speaking, he knows that compared to everyone else, he wasn't exactly all that emotional, meaning he would mostly conduct himself in a calm, rational manner. Of course, when it came to Hana, he rarely ever felt guilt for making her upset since it was about high time someone from her social standing would be equally unpleasant to her as she was to those she ended up belittling, but when it came to Fang who he never meant to hurt by rejecting her... he did admittedly feel at fault.

    "Then again, I am also aware I can be unintentionally insensitive; therefore, I am attempting to communicate better without resorting to being a disingenuous version of myself," Ryuto finally adds. Granted, it might be better to just mask his autism and pretend to be pleasant in order to avoid problems right from the very get go, but alas, consistently doing that all the time proved exhausting, to the point where even he couldn't manage it.

How does Ryuto cope with Kobatos idiocy?

To be honest, Ryuto just sighs a lot and has a habit of massaging his temples every time Kobato proceeds to behave like an idiot. He also would find himself adding copious amounts of sugar into his tea whenever he comes back home and would try to take his mind off him by reading or doing brain exercises.

He'll also probably complain about him to @strywoven's Dyn'lo, but that would only be occurring in a separate AU due to Dyn'lo being a fantasy-esque muse in modern setting... but yeah, long story short, he somehow manages.

Does Ryuto use social media?

To be honest, it's already canon Ryuto has a Gossiper account (which is basically The Caligula Effect's version of a Twitter account), but it's set to private. Still, considering he often focuses on studying and his schoolwork, I don't imagine he spends a lot of time on social media sites, especially since he likes to use actual books as source material for his essays/assignments rather than the web, but every once in a while, he might watch educational documentaries on video hosting sites like YouTube or Netflix.

    The longer he proceeds to observe her with those same bored, light caramel-hued eyes of his, the more Ryuto managed to be convinced this woman truly was slow. Honestly, as much as he thinks conversations didn't always have to be particularly deep, they still managed to have so little in common together, he wonders if he would have been better off chatting up a waitress at some gaudy café or something.

    "...You only just managed to realize this now?" came his subsequent deadpan retort, laced with slight disbelief... and mere moments later, Ryuto then goes on to shake his head. "While I will at least acknowledge you seem a little smarter than Kobato, you make for a much duller conversation partner in comparison, that there would have been little point with centring ours around the intricacies of shogi," he goes on to bluntly remark. Honestly, judging from how Ryuto seemingly paid no mind to how hurtful his words were, it could be inferred that he either didn't care or didn't pay much heed to the effect they might potentially have on her. Regardless, it doesn't take long for him to gradually emerge up to his feet until he was no longer situated by the bench connected to what looked to be a stone picnic table.

    "Now, if you'll excuse me, Himari-san... I shall be taking my leave; after all, I still have some studying left to do back at home, and unlike some people, I don't have the time to entertain further meaningless prattle from absentminded women," he states so matter-of-factly, no annoyance at all could be detected from his tone. Why, if anything, the words he uttered sounded more colder and mechanical, to the point where most might reach the understandable conclusion he didn't have emotions.

"You're not wrong." She knew her limits, she knew where her skills laid, and she didn't like to pretend that she could exceed them. She was simple-minded and possessed a basic education, but she tried not to let that get to her while in the midst of a conversation.

Nothing ruined an interaction quite like a thirty-year-old woman bursting into tears.

A small, feeble smile toyed with her faintly painted lips. "I'll take it. At least you're being honest, which is more than I can get from some people."

Her feelings would recover. They always did, and it didn't make her less inclined to speak to him.

"Oh!" Oh. She stammered and gaped, but she recovered far quicker this time than any instance before. "Huh, that's. . . I never noticed."

It made sense when she considered that her attention usually focused on him rather than their surroundings. All of this new information, paired with the fact that they had only just met, was a smidgen overwhelming.

"I approached you to talk about shogi, and we didn't talk much about it at all. I'm so sorry!"

    "That's simple - I like competence in people... and as far as physical attributes are concerned, I do not care one way or another as long as we're compatible. Personality wise, however, she'd have to be a family oriented person that would support me in all my endeavours as well as someone I could hold a stimulating conversation with... but if it's more so in general, I find myself getting along best with rational, straightforward individuals who are open-minded."

she didn't even know why she was doing this in the first place. sure, her mother had reminded her about it before she left the house... & so did koji... & even kobato, but... ugh, okay, it's not like she had forgotten about it. the fact that she had purchased a small strawberry sponge cake shouldn't mean anything. if anyone asked, it was because she felt obligated to it, with his parents knowing hers & blah blah blah. yeah, that would be her excuse.

despite the frown that she sported, hana's cheeks painted a deep shade of pink when she stretched out her arms with the cake nicely encased in a baby blue box with a ribbon on top. sure, she could've picked something less expensive looking... even without the ribbon, but her gift would be a reflection of who she was as a person, & if she wanted to make a good impression, better show how detailed she could be. if only han was here to acknowledge it... no, she didn't want to be seen giving this guy a gift.

"if you don't like it, save your comments." her defensiveness already showing right off the bat. "you can share it with kobato if it's too much. or some of your ' many girlfriends '..." definitely poking on the fact that she highly doubted he had any, despite him telling her he wasn't the loser she thought he was. hana rolled her eyes & crossed her arms underneath her chest once it was finally taken from her grasp.

    "Are you alright, Hana? You seem awfully red!" As Ryuto spoke, faux concern drips from his tone. Naturally, he knew all too well she was probably just doing this out of obligation, yet upon seeing Hana appear so disgruntled while handing him a gift, a shit eating grin would find itself creeping up along her lips... not because he was particularly happy, of course, but because he himself derived enjoyment from her suffering. Why, there was just something so satisfying about seeing her forcing herself to be nice to him when she'd rather simply strangle him to death, it was enough to make his sadism flare up by twice the amount it normally would when around a cute girl he lovingly bullied.

    "Oh no, since it's from my beloved onee-san, I intend on savouring every last bite; besides, I doubt Kobato has enough of a refined palate to enjoy sweets... and what's more, I'm too busy to even have time for a girlfriend," Ryuto assures her. Despite him referring to Hana as his 'beloved onee-san', however, there was no sincerity lacing his tone whatsoever; in fact, it sounded as though he was merely teasing her rather than treating her with any genuine fondness, but regardless, it doesn't take long for him to smugly accept the box from her hands.

    "But thank you. I shall tell your parents all about how much I loved your gift later!"

"Ryuto-san!" Hands are hidden behind her back, stepping closer to him with a bright smile upon her lips. Although the two clashed clashed at times, it didn't prevent her from buying him a small something. With a grin did her arms move, presenting to him her gift ; a small white box, atop of it the name of the local patisserie — a give - away of what it might contain. "I heard it was your birthday, so.. Happy birthday!" Lifting the lid to reveal a small, multipled layered strawberry cake, covered in white frosting with fresh strawberries on top. It might not be a personal gift, but lets be honest; the amount of critique she'd gain from Ryuto if she bought something that wasn't to his tastes.. she hadn't felt like dealing with it. So, better to play it safe and buy a cake, right?

    Upon hearing his name being called out, Ryuto would automatically turn to regard Ann. Of course, considering she had something hidden behind her back, he already had an inkling when it came to what she was approaching him for, but for her sake, he'll still temporarily feign ignorance. "...Oh, if it isn't Ann-san," came his deadpan response, yet considering he doesn't sound particularly surprised, it seems rather apparent she failed to exactly catch him off guard.

    "Let me guess... you're here, because it's my birthday?" Ryuto then boredly questions, and in the end, it seemed he was right, because the next thing he knew, Ann pretty much proved him right by pulling out a box from a bakery he never frequented before lifting it up to reveal a cake. Still, despite it suiting his tastes, he couldn't help but pout a little, because as much as he anticipated it, Ann being this thoughtful or generous towards him was something he was largely unused to.

    "I see you successfully recalled my immense enjoyment for sweets... however, I would very much prefer we share it together," Ryuto finally brings himself to murmur. "After all, since you ended up wasting your money on something this self-indulgent, it's only natural you should get to partake as well, no?"

Ryuto, do you think hana has a good future ahead, or will she possibly struggle as model with her type of personality? Do you ever worry about her?

    "For as wise as I am, even I cannot predict the future, so it is difficult to say whether she would ultimately thrive or not; however, I do know modelling isn't a career one can hope to continue long after old age, which leads me to believe she would inevitably have to quit at some point." Sure enough, Ryuto then shrugs.

    "But Hana is still young, so perhaps, through some sort of miracle, she would finally do enough growing up to the point where she can stand on her own two feet. Still, considering she lacks many talents outside of modelling, one would hope she doesn't get fired or at least have something else to fall back on if worse comes to worse."

    In all honesty, though, he wasn't the least bit confident Hana managed to plan that far ahead when it came to her future, so by the time she started getting wrinkles, she might possibly have to look into other careers. Regardless, a long pause would subsequently follow as Ryuto proceeds to mull hover how best to answer the stranger's last question before finally managing a sigh.

    "...Since she likes to roam Shinjuku quite often, it's difficult not to worry about her. Honestly, with how frequently she manages to slip out of his sight like some wayward mouse, Koji-san must have his work cut out for him, looking after her."

Is there anything Ryuto would find ugly or not likable about someone else?

Well, Ryuto does automatically dislike idiocy and incompetence, but at the same time, it's possible for him to eventually warm up to those who aren't that bright or have instances where he finds them oddly endearing, so while he did start off disliking most of the other Go-Home Club members and @mugunghwc's Hana for example, he does end up growing more of a weird soft spot for them over time.

Of course, they still wouldn't necessarily be romantic candidates for him, as he himself is very picky when it comes to potential love interests, but provided they end up sticking around, they may eventually earn his fondness.

Honestly, the only instance I could see Ryuto being more lenient/understanding with someone that isn't smart right off the bat is if they had suffered a brain injury or they're someone with higher support needs compared to him, to the point where he would surprisingly be much more kinder to them than neurotypical individuals.

But going off from how enraged he was when he learned Doktor from The Caligula Effect 2 endangered the safety of the people in Redo and broke the Hippocrates Oath, I imagine he views people who would continually mope over the past instead of focusing on what they can do and those who puts other people in harm's way for their own personal means to be unlikable.

With his whole noblesse oblige stick, I also headcanon Ryuto would also find those who would prey on or take advantage of the weak to be immensely ugly, even if on the outside, they happen to be conventionally attractive.

Does Ryuto like to be informed about world events too, reading news?

Yes, actually. One thing about Ryuto is that he likes expanding his knowledge as much as possible, so he'd make a habit of being very well informed about what's going on in the world, meaning if new laws have been passed in other countries or political leaders have been elected, chances are high he would know about it.

Honestly, I can't see him limiting himself to only news regarding Japan either, because he isn't the type to be content about remaining ignorant... so he probably can name current mayors/presidents/senators, dates of important events, and victims of crimes better than say, the average Canadian born citizen; in fact, I can see him judging Vivian for living in Vancouver yet not knowing who the mayor is, let alone the issues Canada is currently facing.

...But yeah, long story short? He'd be reading the news for sure in order to stay up to date with the world at large.

    Naturally, Ryuto would respond back by saying that it was his pleasure to attend, when in reality, he couldn't exactly care less... not when his daughter was just one but many marriage candidates his parents had arranged for him. Still, he has no problem, maintaining that same pleasant smile he had practised emulating from a young age even long after Fujisaki-san trailed off to greet another associate.

    Setsuka, however, might not have been naive as he hoped, because the next thing he knew, she was asking him if he wanted to take a break... yet upon being far from the type to not seize a chance to not socialize any further than he has to, he'll soon proceed to nod.

    "Thank you. That would very much be appreciated," Ryuto finally brings himself to graciously utter. "Will you be coming by to visit me later, Setsuka-san?" he then questions. Of course, he secretly wishes she would say no, if only so he could enjoy reading in peace, but the last thing he wanted was to seem cold, so he'll make it sound like he might want alone time with her... hence why his voice had shifted into a more eager, hopeful tone.

“Tsukishima Ryuto…” She repeated. It’s a name Setsuka has heard of before from her father but with so much information overloading her brain at the moment from all the previous greetings. She’s having a hard time remembering all the little details she knows before this particular meeting. There is one important detail that he mentioned that caught her attention and which is pictures of herself have been shown to him. His compliment made her smile wryly before she said her thanks.

Usually, that meant an arrangement of some sort. Glancing up at her father, who in turn, greeted the young male and thanked him for his attendance. Another associate called over his attention as the older male politely excused himself, leaving Setsuka and Ryuto alone.

This is very awkward…

Setsuka has this feeling in her gut that this man before her is more than meets the eye. She’s been dealing with fake smiles for the majority of this evening and she wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case for him…

“Pardon me, Tsukishima-san, do you need a room for a moment to take a break in? I could have a staff member to escort you.” She smiled. It’s her way of saying if he wishes to leave right now then he’s more than welcomed to.
