character study. nicholas schnee. 

nicholas schnee grew up poor, having a great wanderlust for traversing remnant. his mother died during the harsh winters of atlas (then mantle), he became a dust miner part time while going to combat school doing what he could to provide for his little village. when not at combat school or the dust mines, he studied the possibilities off new dust mines in the mountains of atlas. his father worried about his son’s crazy spirit, persuaded him not to go. his father did not want tohe only thing he loved in his life to perish in the snow much like his wife had. 

his father eventually passed and with his last will and testimony, gave his soon his blessing to go on his expedition. nicholas and his group faced traversities, which included his best friend dying in the process but in the end, they were successful. they had discovered dust. he traveled the world spreading the news, getting new business deals, and fighting grimm off whenever there was a threat. he made more wealth than he knew what to deal with and gave much of it away to villages in need. his trademark was a red scarf sewn by a pretty fair haired woman who above all else admired his gentle, kind aura. her name was gwendolen. 

he eventually married gwendolen and gave birth to eilwen schnee (pending name until confirmed by rwby). gwendolen died a few years after having eilwen which brought him back home to raise his precious daughter. eilwen grew into a pretty young thing having her mother's cheerful nature and her father's fire. nicholas was proud of his darling. however, his health was failing fast and he eventually became bed bound at the schnee estate. eilwen fell in love with jacques jolie who he was skeptical of but as long as it made his little eilly happy, he would manage to keep his opinions to himself. they were married and all seemed well. soon born was winter followed by weiss. he spoiled those girls with his stories as a dust miner, soldier, business dealer telling them of all the fun times minus his very harsh childhood. he wanted to provide them with all the opportunities he never had. his mental health began to slip away. jacques seeing this as his opportunity to take hold of the company, convinced the old nick to sign over the company to his hands. 

nicholas grew very attached to weiss who seemed to see the whimsy and adventure in his stories while winter saw the duty that she was bound to. weiss wanting to follow in her oppa’s footsteps began huntress training while winter went into the military. his last gift to winter was his red scarf while to weiss was what remained of his weapon, which part of it went to myrtenaster and his handguard that were spiked with gems was removed. weiss had it transformed into a hairpiece that she always wears. 

nicholas schnee died and with him, the family joy and spirit of inspiration. soon after his death, eilwen gave birth to a baby boy named whitley. eilwen who loved her father dearly, soon spiraled out of control...and jacques let her. after all, he had what he wanted. someone else’s legacy. now it was up to the schnee children to return the schnee dust company to its former glory and message "help others."
