like i said, when i got into astrology, i instantly noticed how many of the same keywords were regurgitated for everything.

that's what i notice most in pop astrology.

pop astrology is where everyone says cancers are crybabies, leos are narcissists, aries are hotheaded and impulsive, capricorns are cold and unemotional, geminis are two-faced, etc.

unfortunately and also fortunately at the same time, i have ungodly pattern recognition in just about everything, so of course i was gonna notice the same thing being said about the same sign and the same house and the same planet over and over again-

and to clarify before we continue (random disclaaaimeerrrrr- hey. dont do Anything that i say in this song-), this is what i personally have observed and experienced with pop astrology, im not sayin that it's All like this, but im talkin abt the very surface level, shallow kinda stuff.

that kinda stuff is what made me not resonate with my rising sign and be incredibly confused by my sun sign-

i would read "what ur like based on ur rising!!!! Cancer: U cry too much." and feel so shitty bro- id have to go look at every other sign to see which one i resonated with more and it was very rarely one of my big 3.

so naturally i was incredibly confused abt astrology but for me, that didnt deter me.

the stereotypes and stuff offered by pop astrology are incredibly harmful and play a huge part in making people not believe in astrology as a whole.

say someone's an aries sun and they read one of those posts for aries sun right- the post says something along the lines of "ur incredibly impulsive, ambitious and extroverted!!! u probably cant control ur anger" and it doesn't resonate whatsoever because guess what their rising sign is capricorn (side note: why do i always manage to default to aries/capricorn in my examples im gonna laugh 😭😭😭) and their saturn is in cap too-

but ofc they wouldnt know their rising or their saturn sign bc those aren't focused on in pop astrology- it's all sun, moon and rising-

the sun, in my opinion, is actually one of the least important placements in a natal chart- and i can do an entire post on my take on the sun dont worry i actually rly want to- but to explain why i think that real quick, the sun is the culmination of the chart, it's not its own placement.

so every other placement in your chart has influence over it, that's why i never related to taurus sun stuff because i dont have any other earth placements in my chart and mercury in gemini is my dominant planet- so i had to look at gemini sun stuff, but i didnt know that until i was like knee deep into astrology.

stereotypes are not only harmful, but also largely inaccurate.

and pop astrology also loves to convey the understanding that astrology can be segmented into little pieces, when it absolutely cannot.

BUT- say someone Does actually relate to that!!! there's 2 possibilities: they relate to it and they have mars in cancer OR they relate to it and they Don't have mars in cancer

in both of these scenarios, we are completely overlooking the rest of the chart-

you can't make astrology bite sized without also stripping it of all depth. but you can't deliver in depth astrology without it being overwhelming.

kind of a lose-lose, huh?

here's where we need to understand astrology as if it is a science.

astrology is literally an ecosystem, this is how ive always viewed it. you can't interpret one planet on it's own without taking into consideration the aspects it has to it, the degree it's in, the signs that the planets aspecting it are in.

this is scary, yes, and a great way to ward off beginners, absolutely. But if you think it's scary, then you're overlooking the beauty of learning about something that's an ecosystem.

the beauty is you can't interpret one thing on its own, because everything else will follow.

you cant sit down and learn one thing, because you'll learn a whole slew of things and feel like it's never ending- which can be overwhelming for some and satisfying for others.

imagine walking on a floor covered in wires that are tangled with each other. you kneel down and try to pick up one wire and while you can see part of it clearly, it also brings up like 500 other wires for you to untangle as well.

that's what learning astrology is like.

in my experience, i picked up mercury, and mercury brought with it gemini, saturn, what sextiles are, what conjunctions are, the sun, degree theory, aries, and it just kept going.

and the more wires you pick up, the more wires they bring with them.

this is why i hate pop astrology so much- they're picking up one wire, cutting both visible ends of it and ripping it out of tangled mess that is the floor we stand on.

now we don't know where the rest of that wire is because it was forcibly removed from the bunch.

also when it comes to discovering ur identity, it can happen at any age really. like, i discovered i’m actually asexual myself about two years ago and that is also when i realized i’m nonbinary and started exploring my gender identity.

i’m 28 now and i am confidently, comfortably biromantic, asexual, nonbinary person. i grew up like up till 13 not really knowing a thing about any sexuality at all. my first exposure to the concept of sexual orientation was unintentionally thru nsfw content with friends and then seeing their disdain for wlw type stuff.

i went along with it bc hey i didn’t know any better and i really didn’t have the resources to understand what any of this non-straight identities really meant. andi was too afraid to stand out even MORE from my crappy friend group so i hid a lot of my gay feelings till high school.

during high school i realized i was bi and came out a little bit my freshman yr but fully during sophmore yr. like it was literally just fuckin bi gals left and right in my friend group and i was lucky for the most part to be able to have a decent support system there for me which allowed me to like SHED the BURDEN of heteronormativity and EMBRACE the GAY within my HEART. lmao

so from 9th grade where i was 14ish till about 25 i thought i was bisexual - there’s a LOT of negative stuff i’m not going to cover but suffice to say starting therapy helped me realize that my experience with sexuality wasn’t in line totally with being a bisexual - i was much more aligned with the label biromantic and it took me quite a while but eventually i was able to accept that i’m asexual as well as be able to have the people around me understand my limitations in regards to sexual content and set new boundaries i hadn’t before.

basically there i’m just saying that discovering your identity isn’t always something that happens when ur rly young and it’s not something that necessarily has to stay the same. life changes ya! and it’s okay if ur identity fluxes with it as well.

as for ur bf, i think once u could come to a space where u feel like u have identified if u are indeed on the ace-spectrum, then talk with him and rly express to him that certain things are not things u are interested in. it’s a scary conversation, trust me i KNOW, but it’s rly important for ur ace-spectrum identity (if you decide you fall there) is respected first and foremost. otherwise the relationship will eventually just fall apart on its own and it could leave u with rly bad stuff to deal with later on. i wouldn’t wish that on anyone tbh

so in summary:

identity is something that doesn’t have a specific time set for it to be discovered

it can also change over the years from a different thing than u originally identified as! the more resources u are able to find, the better identity labels and such u could relate to bc u are accessing more knowledge than u were previously able to!

identity changing over time doesn’t invalidate any part of u. u are a person and ppl are prone to change. 

i am still very sry u would not have support at home when it comes to ur identity; i would ask if u could find some other support systems to help u even if it’s just ppl u know online. basically all my support is majority via my online friends - the value is immeasurable even tho we are all far apart

if u end up IDing on the ace-spectrum, one thing i’d recommend is just doin some browsing and reading up on either other ppl’s experiences or just base facts about the identity that suits u. i found SO much relief when i was able to see the wide range of just BEING that is within the ace-spectrum and it helped me validate my identity to myself

then, it would be recommended to have a good talk with ur bf to basically lay out ur boundaries and see what he is able to work with.

i know the concept of a break up bc ur needs and his needs are different is stressful and scary, and i know it’s easy for me to say that it’s better to leave a person if they desire things u aren’t/won’t/can’t give but pls know in the long run, u will be making the best choice for urself bc ur needs as an ace-spectrum person are of UTMOST importance.

just know that u aren’t alone at all and there’s a huge community for u if u ever need

Someone recently hit my car while it was parked across the street from my house. I almost thought it was a hit and run till I found their business card on my windsheild. So I go to the left and the left and gas it a little bit, I was going like 10 mph as I was taking off, and the light turns yellow, I cross the crosswalk, then the light turns red and I drive under the set of lights.. These 2 bike cops came immediately after me... So long story short, it was my first time being pulled over, I took the seatbelts off, and I ran the red light because there was a guy pulling into a parking stop right in front of me and I was too worried looking around afraid I was going to hit a jaywalking tourists. I know people always think they're right, but I honestly think I didn't do anything wrong here. I got a $25 seat belt fine and a warning for running the red light, which is complete BS. I know it's a warning but I don't want it on my record at all, how can I appeal, any tips? So, my brother got into a car accident about 3 years ago. He was driving his car and a motorcyclist ran into him doing around 90 mph, causing the bike to flip and the guy on the bike to dismount and skid across the freeway. The motorcyclist was lucky he didn't get run over or killed. It was deemed by both the insurance companies that it was the motorcyclists fault and when the motorcyclist tried to sue our insurance company, we got a letter from our attorney that the case had been dismissed and no further action was needed. Today, we got a call out of the blue from Mercury saying my brother couldn't be on the insurance anymore because they had settled with the motorcyclist for $100,000 and basically, if we didn't get him off the insurance, my whole family would be removed. We didn't receive any notification that Mercury was planning on paying this guy out or that our rates would be altered.
