Like most things in your life, it doesn't start the "right" way. Yes, there is a date, but never a proper second or maybe third date, then a kiss. And at a particular stage of life, you didn't think you could seduce or date anyone. Even more so, your partner and friend Leon S. Kennedy. You had lost your touch or never really had one. And he was clearly in love with somebody else.

You had to hear about it occasionally if you decided to join him to drink. It bothered you more than it should, but you could do nothing about it.

And Leon Kennedy had the tendency to only "flirt" as a joke, anyway. 

The smiles, the flirty smiles in your direction. They started here and there, just a tiny detail you didn't think much of, figuring it was just Leon being Leon. Then, the flirting. As if you could call it flirting, the man straight invited you to dinner after you two almost died in the hands of a B.O.W.

Leon's priceless face, when you accept it, makes everything almost all worth it.

Leon is unsure during dinner. You watch his eyes wander around the restaurant, never looking straight at your face. The menu has confusing names with food you have never heard of. Leon had chosen a fancy place he clearly never went, and also somewhere he wasn't comfortable. 

Later, after eating what you think was a snail with a weird tomato, you question why he brought you here. Leon mumbles he never thought you would accept it.

"Why?"

"I guess because you know...my situation."

Ada Wong? Oh, you knew their situation pretty well. You have heard more than once, actually: she and Leon seem to be connected to each other with a certain tension that never seems to die down over the years. This doesn't frighten you; you never ran away from a challenge. You preferred the harder ones anyway.

You wouldn't be stealing Leon from her since he was never his. And even if he was, it didn't matter.

"It doesn't really matter," You conclude, finishing your drink.

"Why not?"

"Because you could be mine at the end. We can't risk that."

The smile Leon gives you is all the answer you need.

"We could do this" Your voice sounds vulnerable and different from earlier. More emotional "It will be slow. We will take our time. No rush."

"Yes."

Leon Kennedy opens a smile that has you hide your face on his neck. You want more, much more, but for now, this is enough.

I agree on your post about fandom with Leon. I like him but the way fandom treats him and acts if he's the only character that has gone thru the most hell, it makes me not want to see him in any further content for awhile. Don't me get started on the shipping aspect of him whether it's self-shipping or his relationships with other characters.

I'd really love it if people who ship leon with themselves or reader or whatever would choose TWO ways to tag it as a group so I can block it en masse and not see their boring ass fantasies generated from character ai play out the same way 500x a day no matter how many variants of the tag I block.

Every time I think it might be a character analysis it's slapped with "He Wouldn't Fucking Say That" but for every sentence, and I get to decide whether I'm going to block or scroll faster.

Shipping aside(because woooo do aeon, cleon, and jilleon shippers love showing their misogyny as much as people who ship leon with other boring white men), seeing people baby him incessantly as if he's not a grown ass man is a different level of fury. Yes, his job fucking sucks. Yes, he was suckered into it. He's not special actually. How many people have the option to not work a shitty job for an uncomfortable period of time in their lives without suffering immediate financial consequences? I'll tell you who. Rich people. Who I don't respect anyways. You know who else has a shitty job? Literally the entire recurring cast of characters we see, majority of whom are women.

You know what usually makes a job shittier? Not having a dick. I cannot fucking imagine the hell that Jill, as much of a paragon in her field as Chris is, has to experience from the men higher ups questioning every single fucking decision she makes on top of dealing with bioweapon bullshit. Her only reprieve? Probably Chris or Barry stepping in for her to shut them up, and if not that, she can get some of that anger out through the gorey, visceral violence some people dream of having as an outlet when dealing with shitty customers in retail.

And don't even get me fucking started on Rebecca and Claire who don't have the mercy of that much of a reprieve! Both of them have to deal with politicians from multiple countries, majority men, also questioning and second guessing their every plan while they try to provide life-saving medicine and resources to people who need them. You know what Leon has to hear from politicians? Arrest or kill this guy and go home. Escort this person and go home. They dont' question his competency. I know for a fucking fact Claire and Rebecca get the third degree if they so much as even suggest a faster way to supply necessary footwork in order to rebuild a neighborhood or save lives, meanwhile Leon goes home and does, uh, fucking nothing until he's called onto the next job.

But Leon is blonde ONCE, in ONE GAME, a good game yes but is apparently so iconic his pain magically takes precedent as the worst above everyone else's. When his bro Taka got killed, he was pissed

Especially in the manner he was killed in

He was glad you were still with him though

But he was hellbent on finding out who killed his bro

You helped him look for clues and you were by his side when you all came together for the trial

The trial was painfully long, but later into it, the evidence was starting to point to you

Mondo was even more pissed

No way could you be the killer!

"You're fucking delusional! (Name) would never kill my bro! Check your evidence again, you dumb shits!"

He fought Makoto and Kyoko to the best of his ability, but they weren't backing down

They just presented more evidence that proved it was you

Then the end of the trial came, and everyone voted for you

Mondo was just getting even more enraged

He refused to believe you could be a killer

But Monokuma declared that you were in fact the killer

Then he turned to you

"Is it true?"

His voice was so quiet, exhausted by all the yelling he had been doing

Then you smiled and said something that shattered him forever

"Yes. I am the killer."

On the inside, he was still struggling to believe it

Then his anger returned, and he curled his hand into a fist and started yelling again

If you're a guy, he would've socked the shit outta you

"You fucking asshole! Why the fuck did you kill my brother?! How could you do that to me, you damn traitor?!"

Your face turned serious

"It was for my sister."

He stopped for a second, his eyes widening in surprise

"What?"

"She did not approve of your dear 'brother's' behavior. He was fighting over Alter Ego as if she belonged to him. That's no way to treat a woman. I had to kill him and that... filthy scum in order to keep her safe."

Mondo could barely even wrap his head around what you were saying

He remembered you talking about your sister with admiration, but he didn't think it was this serious

"Did I not mean a damn thing to you?!"

"Hm... Well, you were a nice temporary companion to take her place. But I'm afraid you could never hold a candle to her. And now, the time has come for us to be reunited..."

At this point, Mondo was out of words

He couldn't even express how disgusting the whole thing was

But now, it was time for you to face your punishment

Mondo couldn't even watch as Monokuma dragged you off to your execution

But when he did look up, he saw something incredibly disturbing

You were boiled to death, then your sister betrayed you and erased your ghost as well

At the end, Mondo couldn't even be angry anymore

He had lost his best friend, and his significant other

Some of the others tried to comfort him, but he wasn't having it

After the trial, he trudged back to his room and flopped down on the bed

He's not sure if he can keep going after this

Seeing the bodies of Hifumi and Taka horrified him

Hifumi was weird and Taka was annoying, but damn, they didn't deserve this

Honestly, he's probably gonna stay as far away from the bodies as possible

You can investigate if you want, but count him out

When it came time for the trial, he mainly just listened to what the others were saying while trying to cope with the situation

He started to zone out after a while, but when they started to accuse you, he was on high alert

"Huh? Wait, what do you mean (Name)'s the killer?! They wouldn't do that kind of disgusting shit!"

Boy, was he furious

No matter what Makoto and Kyoko said, he refused to listen

"No! I refuse to acknowledge you! They're not the killer! You're stupid, both of you! Stupid, stupid, stupid!"

And when you were voted out, think of how he reacted when he was exposed as the killer during the first trial

He was in complete and utter shock

So you really did kill them?

"Why...?"

That's all he could force out

"I had to. For her."

"Who the hell's 'her?!'"

"My sister. She found Hifumi and Kiyotaka's behavior to be revolting. They treated Alter Ego like their property, and that's no way to treat a woman. They needed to be dealt with."

Leon didn't even know what to think about this

"You're fucking sick. You murdered two people because of some stupid delusion?! Didn't I mean anything to you?!"

"Well, you certainly drove away the loneliness I felt in my sister's absence. I will remember you well in the afterlife. But I'm afraid my dear sister matters more to me."

Leon couldn't even watch as you were dragged off to your execution

Though he found himself speechless when your own sister turned her back on you

He never believed in ghosts, but what he saw was legit

He's not sure if he can keep going after that

She was horrified when Sonia and Ibuki were announced dead

Hiyoko is replaced by Sonia because it's more fitting

Her last two friends from Hope's Peak were gone, and she didn't know what to do

But she had to perform an autopsy on their bodies, so she needed to push past her fear and do what had to be done

Then it was time to head down to the trial

She clung onto your arm the whole time

Your presence was comforting for her

Mikan provided useful info from her autopsies, but she couldn't make heads or tails of who the killer was

When the signs started pointing to you, she was horrified 

"Wh-What?! N-No, that can't be right! (Name) c-can't be the killer! It's impossible!"

She tried to defend you as best as she could, but even she was starting to wonder if it was true

But even when you were voted out, she still couldn't believe it

Her dear sweet s/o, a killer?

"N-No, that has to be wrong! They c-can't be the killer! R-Right?"

But now that you were caught, yoi saw no point in hiding anymore

Mikan was devastated that you killed someone

Two people, at that

"(Name)... Why did you do this?"

"For her."

"Huh?"

"My sister. She left my side quite some time ago. I didn't want her to be lonely in the afterlife, so I killed those girls so they could be friends with her."

Mikan could hardly believe what she was hearing

Did Mikan even mean anything to you?

Unfortunately, she didn't have time to ask as you were being dragged off to your execution

This one was by far the most disturbing 

She wanted so badly to look away, but her eyes were glued to the screen

It was even worse that your own sister betrayed you

Mikan never thought about ghosts or whatever, but knowing that you wouldn't be there in the afterlife was pretty upsetting

After that, she was completely shattered

She didn't know if she could move forward from it, or if she could even try

Hey, same ship anon and you summarised my feelings about Ada quite well! I'm very new to the franchise (and I first met her in original RE4) and just adored her. I saw so much exciting potential for this character and then the more I dived into it, I just became really disappointed!

It feels to me like they write absolutely nothing for her, other than to make Leon slightly more interesting and it's come across as lazy and misogynistic to me. Even her tumblr tag is completely saturated with him... It's why I really don't like the ship, because god she could just be so much MORE than "sexy cameo for the main guy".

Also yes, the Leon story wouldn't be severely impacted without her either. I would love for a separate Ada story altogether! Thanks so much for sharing your opinion with me! Have a lovely weekend.

Fingers crossed that RE4make's Separate Ways gives us the Ada story we've always needed.

The thing I like about Ashley, since you did ask earlier, is that she never tries to be anything other than what she is. Part of that is just because she's only ever been in the one title, but like. Some of the characters in RE feel confused just in concept.

Steve Burnside is probably the best example of this, where I have no idea what the fuck the idea behind him was ever actually supposed to be. He's a prisoner except it's only because of his dad and he can dual weild Lugers despite being a total dipshit who's only like 17 and he's in love with Claire because ??? And then he gets infected and Wesker steals his corpse and DID CAPCOM HAVE A PLAN AT ALL WHEN THEY STARTED WRITING CODE VERONICA

Ashley is just Ashley, and she never tries to be anything or anyone else.

And I really like the idea of Ashley being a grounding sense of normalcy for someone like Leon, who has the most complicated and miserable life of any of the main cast. And I love that he, in return, breaks her out of her privileged rich girl bubble and she's actually able to experience being treated like an actual person for once and know that her achievements are her own.

There's a potential there for the two of them to actually enrich each other as characters, because their relationship in canon is only just beginning and leaves the door open for more.

The issue with Leon and Ada is that, while they did also have the potential to enrich each other, that story between them ended pretty decisively at the end of RE2. But for some reason, it still tries to hang around, even though there's nothing more that the two of them can gain from each other. So they're just... aimlessly hanging on to each other in a way that does nothing to benefit either of them and makes the entire narrative shittier as a result.

I could go into more about Leon and Ashley's dynamic and all of the things I love about them, but since we were specifically talking about character roles in terms of the utilization of them in canon, I did just want to touch on that one point real fast.
