sioned is undeniably protective of carver, but i think she recognizes that that's not always what he wants from her. with sioned as hawke, he wouldn't have just the little brother complex, he'd also have the "only boy" complex (and the "only non-mage" complex); protective big sis would easily read as her thinking he's incapable (and potentially emasculating), and while i'm not interested in their relationship being perfect, she cares enough about him not to treat him like he can't handle himself. to an extent, i think this backfires. before the blight, sioned doesn't know what else to be besides protective, so carver sees her being protective over bethany but not extending those same behaviors to him and feels... left out, at best, i expect. in the wake of losing bethany, i believe they become closer as they both become more protective of one another. there's still absolutely bickering ("you don't need to treat me like a child, ned." / "i am the head of this family now, carver, you need to trust me." x1000) but very much that "no one gets to be mean to my sibling but me" kind of behavior.
