rough, from flowers grow over my grave, an edea pre- and post-possession thing that i've been picking at on and off since 2022 apparently, and that i totally maybe just added a couple hundred words whoops.

She is on the floor, cheek pressed into sturdy carpet that can only belong in an institution-- Balamb has the same hideous neutral gray high-traffic stuff, rough against bare feet and rougher against the delicate skin of her face. Edea groans, shifting slightly.  Her feet move, her hands. Her body responds like it’s swimming against television static, cold and aching and unforgiving to both nerves and bones alike. “--Matron? Are you okay?” Someone’s voice, cautiously offered into the space above her hair, someone’s hand, cool against her shoulder. She flinches against the touch slightly, and leans back into it a second later, when the world sinks back into something like reality, when she can place the voice, the touch, the office. Squall Leonhart gets her upright, and then into an office chair with unyielding padding along the armrests. She digs her nails into it, breathing slowly.

The orphanage still sits approximately where it had been since before they were born, but in the year following the second sorceress war, Squall and his friends had pooled their resources, and with Edea’s permission, had razed the original, long-failing structure to the ground, building a modern, two-story Dolletian-style beach house in its place, with enough bedrooms for guests, for children, for whatever Matron and Cid chose to do in their golden years. The paint is still a bright, sunny yellow; the windows gleam like they were freshly washed not all that long ago. The garden is still an explosion of color and scent as they ascend the last bit of the rise, and Squall stops for a second just to look at it.  He doesn’t know what he expected, but somehow, he hadn’t expected her plants to still be blooming, especially in the baking heat of a Centran late spring, wildflowers of every color and roses clambering up trellises and archways where there used to be broken stone columns.  “It’s still--” “Yeah, I don’t know how long it’s gonna last.”  Seifer probably does, though, keener than Squall would ever be able to divine. There’s magic here, so much of it pouring out of the ground and the air that he feels like he could reach out and scoop it up.  But the Cape has always been like that, a place of power. A place lovingly tended to, manifested through the will of a sorceress who had been nursing her powers since she was five, and long after she had given them away. He wonders if he would have needed the GPS in the boat at all, if he’d known it would still feel like this to him, someone with no innate magic, just a failed knighting in his bones.  To Seifer, it probably feels like a goddamned homing beacon.

The wind whips around them, violent as Pandemona’s limit break, rain beating down razor-sharp as broken glass, and all Squall can think is that they’ve been here before.  They seem to always come back to this, don’t they? Standing across from each other, waiting for someone to make the first move? He feels naked here, without Lionheart in his hands, defenseless, exposed.  But he’s not unarmed, because a SeeD, by nature, is a weapon.  He’s been here before. Faced this threat before.  They’ve all been here before, staring down something maleficent and monstrous.  Seifer Almasy standing on the edge of the Galbadia Hotel’s roof, in a battered gray motorcycle jacket and ripped denim jeans, blond hair whipping around like a tornado, hardly looks monstrous, not at first glance. But Squall doesn’t have to be right up on him to see the gold taking over green in his eyes, gaze sharp as a hawk. Doesn’t even have to pick out the silver-black whorls on his temples, cascading down high cheekbones, to know he’s too late. (As if the unnatural storm weren’t enough of an indicator that something has gone deeply fucking wrong, as if the source magic being pulled out of the atmosphere isn’t electric enough to draw every dark hair on Squall’s arms to full attention.  A sorceress, by nature, is a weapon, too, though, and he has to force the thought away, because this is still Seifer, regardless of what he’s become.) He just wishes this time that it weren’t on top of a Deling City skyscraper, because the wind keeps threatening to push him off his balance, to send him careening to what would undoubtedly be a really unpleasant ending.

It’s possibly the most ridiculous plan he’s ever come up with. It’s definitely the fucking craziest, especially considering the fact that he’s very definitely dead if it doesn’t work. But he needs to buy time for the officers to find a way to get in here and take Bobby down, and he’s so desperate to get out of this alive and see Leon and Connor again that he’ll try just literally anything, even as Bobby stares at him unreadably and his hands shake against the restraints on his wrists.

Besides, he tries to tell himself against all common sense. If Lucy Grey could sing her way to survival, there’s no reason why he can’t do the same.

1) What motivates you to write?

(Stories are like ghosts that haunt my thoughts and writing is the only way to exorcize them) I'm motivated to write the kind of books I want to read + the sort of characters I want to read! Not enough black lesbian girlies in fiction so I gotta do my part by releasing them into the wild 💅🏾

2) A line/short snippet of your writing that you are most proud/happy of. If not maybe share a line of someone else's work you love (just please credit them)

I'll share the first few paragraphs from Little Infernos! Its old + I shared it before but it lives in my head rent free <3

Possession is an impossible skill to grasp. The doctor told her as much. “Think of yourself as a ghost,” he’d said, with a chuckle and a thin-lipped smile. Play pretend. A game to take her mind off the terror of stealing back her body from whatever’s taken it the night before. Remember, start small. The tips of a finger, a big toe, maybe even a whole pinky, if she was feeling so bold. Slip back in, one part at a time. This time, Dante is sprawled out in a bed of Ponderosa pine-needles. Bitter moss and loamy soil weighs down her tongue, pebbles rolling hard behind her throat. Aftertastes of pondweed and eelgrass. A ring of trees loom overhead, peaks fading into a dark and stainless sky. She moves her right index finger first, dragging in a breath of dirt and timberland air as she revels in the prick. Something small. Next is her left finger, then her pinky and middle. Soon, she is grabbing a fistful of earth and leaves and morels, propping herself up on empty arms. Another fight to push herself back into her body. The thin-lipped doctor says it’s sleep paralysis. Her father says it’s demons, the ones which drew her to Beau. Web M.D. also says sleep paralysis, so it must be true.

3) Which OC makes you smile every time you think/talk about them and what are they like?

Hmm Dante from Little Infernos! She just like me fr (in an alternate universe where I'm a little freak who has little freak things happen to her.) Since I focus on my fantasy projects so much I don't often get to explore more contemporary characters. I love Dante because she's the kind of black girl we don't often see in media (shy, quiet, introverted, ✨feral✨) and I get to aspects of myself in her that I can't quite replicate in my fantasy wips.

4) What process of writing do you enjoy the most?

Worldbuilding! I love building out worlds for fantasy projects, and thinking about all the little intricacies that go into developing a fleshed out world. It's super time consuming, and if I don't reign myself in it can become a never-ending process, but it's so much fun regardless.

5) What part of writing do you think you are the best at? (Yes stroke your own ego it's okay)

Hmm I think I'm fairly good at scene/setting descriptions! Ironically enough I do suffer from White Room Syndrome during first drafts because I tend to focus more on dialogue/character interactions, but during editing I think I do well setting scenes + making the worlds I'm writing about feel alive.

6) What is something in the writeblr community is most enjoyable?

I love how friendly and encouraging everyone is! We're all here to write our silly little stories and obsess over our silly little characters together :)

7) A writing tool/device you use that helps you with writing? (It could be speech to text, a writing program etc)

I used to use Scrivener to compile all my worldbuilding notes (personally I don't enjoy drafting in Scrivener lol) BUT I've recently started using Notion and I love it so much! Very easy to use and satisfies my urge to make all my notes ✨aesthetically pleasing✨ Its like having secret wip pages just for myself and I love it sm <3

8) A piece of worldbuilding that you like in your own story? (It could be the magic system, a particular place in the story, a law etc)

I love the magic system I've built for A Killing of Kinfolk! Mayhaps one day I'll make a more in depth worldbuilding post but tldr; all living things have magic (Kin) within them, some people can wield Kin while others cannot. A person's magic (regardless if whether or not they can wield it) essentially works like antibodies, protecting from outside sources of magic. Casting/using magic on another person is always going to be a painful, invasive, and if prolonged, deadly process. This makes the most prominent use of Kin, healing magic (Mendwork) extremely difficult. Healers have to work slow and meticulously to ensure they exert enough Kin to heal their patients without too much pain or further harm. There are other schools of magic within AKOK (seedweaving, bonewielding and banework) but Mendwork is by far the most complex and interesting to me. I really liked the idea of a magic system that's actively hostile to its user—a healing magic that hurts just as much. Very fun <3

9) What piece of advice would you say to encourage others to write if they are having a rough patch?

READ! I feel like this is overused advice but I know all my worst writers block moments come when I haven't read anything in a while. I'm trying to be better about reading regularly and revisiting old favs when I get stuck to inspire me and remind me why I want to write.

I'm continuously inspired by writers such as @coffeeandcalligraphy , @fluoresensitive , @yvesdot & @seasteading, and I have to shout out @aninkwellofnectar , and my beloved @harehearts for being such kind and supportive writeblr friends 💞

For a Sanctuary AU fic I have been playing with for a while.

Kate’s breathing slowly evened out as a complete calm settled over her. Her eyes began to flutter as the world drifted in and out of focus and she fought to keep them open, still trying to stay awake, still watching Helen, her entire world slowly grew smaller until the only thing that existed was Helen and her warm smile. She didn’t want to close her eyes, not yet, but the pull was getting harder to resist and she was sinking still further into the warmth.

“You’re going to be alright” it was almost a whisper but it was all Kate needed to let go and fall softly into velvety black of sleep.

(I know its more of a last snippet then the last line but I couldn’t resist.) 😅

Three ships: Titanic and Vasa, forever and always... aaaand let's say the HMS St. George, because I've been thinking about the Strandningsmuseet in Denmark lately. It's such a cool place: a world-class shipwreck museum situated in a tiny village of about 300 people, right next to the coast where the ship was wrecked. I want to go back!

Also, because I like many ships, a bonus shout-out to the MS Kronprinsesse Märtha, whom I wish will make a comeback as a hotel ship one day. I miss her lots.

First ever ship: Vasa.

In the other sense of the word, I've never been much of a shipper, so I don't really know what counts here. I want to say something from Corpse Bride because it was the first fandom I was ever involved with online, but I can't remember taking any strong stance – like, Emily/Victor was more fun, but Victoria/Victor was cute and clearly meant to be, so how could you pick one over the other. Maybe Rose and Jack from Titanic – though I was always more passionate about the, uh, other sort of ship central to the story, I do remember reading some fic about them back in the day.

Last song: Belle from Notre Dame de Paris version integrale 2017. This album is my go-to whenever I want to listen to NDdP because it's the only full version of the show I own on CD.

Last film: I really haven't felt like watching films lately.

Currently reading: The Other Bennet Sister by Janice Hadlow. I've been working my way through the local library's collection of published Jane Austen fanfiction ever since I finished reading Austen's novels last year.

Currently consuming: Fredsted caramel chai latte, so much of it that my teeth will probably melt away entirely before it's time for my next dental appointment.

Currently craving: Nothing, for I have a cup of caramel chai latte here with me <3
