Sumi knocked on the door to YinYin’s room, opening it a crack when the girl answered.
“Did I wake you up?” She asked, already knowing the answer.
YinYin was shaking her hair out of her ponytail, obviously having returned from a run. “Not at all. What’s up?”
Sumi smiled. “I’m making breakfast for Changkyun and I, and wanted to know if you wanted any.”
“I don’t know…” YinYin hesitated, thinking of the stacks of pancakes Sumi had prepared last week. As delicious as it might be, it would completely negate the exercise she’d just done.
Sumi sensed her hesitation. “Smoothie bowls. Your healthy habits are finally rubbing off one me.” She laughed.
“Oh.” YinYin grinned. “Then sure. I’ll be out in a minute.”
“Okey dokey.” Sumi winked, closing the door behind her.
She walked back down the hall towards the kitchen, stopping to shout into the bathroom door that breakfast would be ready in ten minutes. Changkyun shouted something in reply, but she couldn’t really hear him over the shower and the music he was blasting.
She’d already started on the smoothie bowls, so she just grabbed another bowl and added more for YinYin’s. As awkward as the whole thing had been at first, she had really enjoyed having Yinnie around. The two of them had a surprising amount in common, at least in the music and TV shows they liked. And the parts of them that were different – they were rubbing off on each other in a good way. Sumi had been practically bullied into eating healthier and exercising more, and YinYin had started to relax a bit and learn to spoil herself.
She was going to miss it when YinYin moved out.
As she blended the last round of smoothies (the strawberry layer), she checked the schedule on her phone. There was a meeting at her company to figure out what their demands were going to be when they had to start negotiating with stores next week, and then she was supposed to head to BigHit so they could figure out the shooting schedule with the group.
Mentally planning her outfit, she had just about settled on her pink jumpsuit when two screams echoed through the apartment.
She dropped her phone, rushing towards the hall. She paused in the entryway, trying to process what she was seeing.
YinYin was standing on one side of the hall, he face pressed into the wall. And Changkyun was standing in the bathroom door, attempting to secure a towel around his waist.
“What did….what is going on?” Sumi looked between them.
“I’m so sorry!” Changkyun exclaimed. “I forgot you were here, and I didn’t lock it.”
“Did you walk in?” Sumi gasped, unable to hide the tiny laugh that escaped her. Both her boyfriend and roommate looked traumatized, but the horror on both of their faces was pretty hilarious.
“Eonnie!” YinYin turned, the most desperate look Sumi had ever seen on her face. “I’m sorry! I saw your boyfriend naked!”
Sumi laughed, but opened her arms. “It’s okay, come here.”
YinYin accepted her hug, hiding her face in Sumi’s sweater. “I’m worse than Lucas.”
“You can’t possibly be worse than Lucas.” Sumi petted her hair, before kicking her slipped at Changkyun. “Yah! Why didn’t you lock the door?”
“I forgot! I haven’t been here in a while.” He explained. “I’m really sorry, YinYin.”
“I’m the one who walked in.” YinYin pulled back. She couldn’t meet Changkyun’s eyes.
“You do technically live here.” Sumi reminded. “So really we can blame him.”
“Yes! Please blame me.” Changkyun begged. “I’m so sorry.”
“I’m sorry too.”
“Okay, since everyone is sorry,” Sumi began. “Yin and I will go finish up breakfast. Babe, please put some clothes on.”
“Right away.” He hurried into Sumi’s bedroom.
YinYin followed Sumi silently into the kitchen, taking a seat at the island. She was just staring at the countertop, prompting Sumi to hit her on the head with a spatula.
“You have seen a naked guy before, right?” Sumi asked.
“Obviously.” YinYin glared at her. “But walking in on your boyfriend wasn’t really how I wanted to start my morning.”
“If it makes you feel any better, I think he feels really bad about it.” Sumi offered. “Ask him for money. He’ll give it.”
YinYin ignored her, mumbling to herself. “I mean…I hear the things all the time but that doesn’t mean I wanted to see….the thing.”
“O-kay.” Sumi winced. “Breakfast is served. I promise I’ll thoroughly punish my boyfriend for you.”
“I’ll have to hear that too.” YinYin slid her bowl towards her.
Sumi snorted, before thinking over her words a bit more thoroughly.
“You’ve…actually heard everything?”
“Everything.” YinYin confirmed.
Sumi’s face dropped. “What? You should have told me….we could’ve…I could’ve….”
“Stopped having sex?”
“Invested in some good ear plugs for you.” Sumi winked. “Just think of it this way – now you’ll be really excited to move back in with the boys.”
YinYin thought about that for a minute. “Honestly…I don’t know.”
Changkyun came into the kitchen, pressing a quick kiss to Sumi’s cheek before grabbing his own bowl and sitting down. “Again, I’m so sorry.”
“Whatever.” YinYin ate a raspberry. In the two months or so that she’d lived with Sumi, she’d gotten pretty used to Changkyun. They were on friendly terms and talked pretty informally to each other. So YinYin didn’t feel obligated to hide her distain for him.
“She’s mad, babe.” Sumi smirked at him. “I told you to lock the door.”
“I forgot!” He repeated his excuse from earlier. “I wasn’t trying to flash your roommate. Please…YinYin, I wasn’t trying to do anything weird.”
“I know.” She stirred her smoothie. “I’m just going to have that picture burned in my brain forever.”
“Hey, you can visualize what I’m working with when you hear the – “ Sumi began.
“NO!” The other two shouted together.
“Okay, okay.” Sumi reached back for her breakfast. “But if you make me pick sides, only one of you is paying rent.”
YinYin glanced at Changkyun and mouthed. “Are you paying rent?”
“No, are you?” He replied.

Sumi bit her lip as a stylist tried to fix her hair. She’d been having her hair done for almost fifteen minutes, all with a perfect view of Halsey and RM playing around.
It didn’t help that her hair was dyed pink, and she felt like she was supposed to be some sort of copy of Halsey in this video. It wasn’t like the American had done anything wrong, but Sumi just felt very threatened by her.
She was pretty, for a start, which she’d already overheard all of the boys talking about. And they were allowed to talk about how pretty the new girl was, but it still hurt Sumi’s feelings. And she was just a bit taller than Sumi, which made her her insecure about being tiny all over again.
And probably the thing that had bothered her the most was the Namjoon hadn’t spoken to her since Halsey had arrived that morning. Sure he’d addressed her if the three were having a conversation, but his attention had been fully on Halsey.
Sumi shook her head, apologizing when she ruined the hair the stylist had been working on. He was just being nice. Halsey could only really talk with Namjoon or Sumi, and Sumi wasn’t exactly being welcoming.
“All done.” Sumi thanked the stylist with a smile and stood, heading over to Namjoon and Halsey.
“What are you guys doing?” She asked, quietly with a small smile.
“We’re working on our handshake.” Namjoon said, without looking at her.
Halsey spared her a glance. “Hey, your hair looks so nice!”
“Thank you!” Sumi smiled. “Do you need help with your...handshake?” She realized how stupid she sounded as she said it.
“No, I think we’re good.” Namjoon said.
“That’s okay!” Sumi smiled. “Can I see it? It’s going to be in the video right? I bet it’s going to be-”
“Sorry, Soo, but we need to get this done. We’ll show you later, okay?” Namjoon gave her a tight smile, before turning back to the other girl.
Halsey offered her a kinder smile. “It’ll be a good surprise! I promise!”
“Well,” Sumi felt herself deflate with their dismissal. “I can’t wait.”
She turned and walked away. She turned to go stand next to Tae, but he was also focused on Halsey.
Sumi turned for the door and stepped outside the room. There was a stairwell right next to the elevators, so she went in there and just sat on the top step.
She knew she was being ridiculous, but it was still bothering her. And she didn’t want to let the boys know. Or worse, have Halsey find out. Because none of them were doing anything wrong.
“Soo?” She looked up, finding Jimin peeking through the door. “Can I sit?”
She nodded. He closed the door behind him and set on the step below hers.
“What’s wrong?” He asked.
“Nothing. What do you mean?” She said unconvincingly.
Jimin shook his head. “You left without your phone, in your bare feet. Something is wrong.”
She looked down, finding that her feet were, in fact, bare. “Oh.”
“C’mon, you’ve been off all day.” He crossed his arms over her knees and rested his head on them playfully. “You know you can tell me.”
“It’s stupid.” She said. “It’s really not even worth talking about.”
“Hey, it’s bothering you. Which means it matters to me.”
“Namjoon won’t talk to me.” She said quietly.
“What?” He asked, not certain if he’d heard her. “You were just talking to him.”
“He wanted me to leave him alone so he could work on his handshake with Halsey.” She traced a finger over Jimin’s knuckles.
“So you’re sad that he is too busy to talk to you?” He asked. “Tell him. If he knew it was making you sad he-”
“It’s not just that.” Sumi sighed. “It’s my problem. You guys aren’t doing anything wrong.”
“You guys?” Jimin sat up straighter. “Have I done something to make you sad.”
“No, I-” Sumi looked down. “It’s stupid.”
“Tell me.” He insisted. “I won’t tell anyone else if you don’t want me to.”
“Promise?”
“Promise.”
Sumi bit her lip. “It’s just, all you guys have done since Halsey got here is talk about how pretty she is, and how good at dancing she is. And she’s taller than me and Namjoon only wants to talk to her and-”
“Hold up.” Jimin smiled at her. “Are you jealous of her?”
Sumi’s lip quivered. “Maybe.”
“No no no no!” Jimin panicked. “Don’t cry! I was just teasing.”
“But it’s true!” Her eyes started to water. “She’s so much prettier than me and she can basically do everything I can do so why am I even here? They even made my hair the same. I’m just the old Halsey.”
“Soo...no you aren’t.” Jimin said earnestly. “You’re you. We aren’t replacing you. We couldn’t do that even if we tried. Joon is just trying to make sure she has someone to talk to.”
“See...I’m being stupid.” She rested her forehead on his arms.
Jimin petted her hair. “If it’s making you sad, then it isn’t stupid.” He promised. “She isn’t prettier than you, she can’t do everything you can do. She’s just new. And she’ll be gone soon, if it bothers you that much.”
“But she’s so nice!” Sumi exclaimed. “It isn’t her fault I’m an insecure idiot.”
“Hey!” Jimin grabbed her chin and forced her to look at him. “You’re our girl. Okay. It doesn’t matter what happens, you’re always going to be our girl.”
“I know.” She said quietly.
“Let’s go back.” He told her. “And you can hold my hand if you get sad. And tomorrow when she’s gone I’ll yell at Joon for you.”
She laughed. “You’ll yell at Joon?”
“Yes!” He insisted. “He made you sad.”
He stood grabbing her hand and pulling her with him. “I got your back, Soo. Now and always.”
She held his hand tight as they walked back through the door. When they stepped back into the main room, she ignored Joon and Halsey and instead walked over to Tae and Yoongi.
“Where’d you go?” Yoongi asked.
“I just needed some air.” She said quietly.
“Yah, you have an eyelash.” Tae said, leaning close. “I’ll get it.”
Sumi closed her eyes as he retrieved the stray eyelash. He held it up in front of her. “Make a wish.”
She chuckled and thought for a moment, before gently blowing the eyelash off of his finger.
“Okay!” A stylist announced. “Boys out! We need to get the girls into their wardrobe.”
“Bye!” Sumi waved playfully as they filed out of the room.
“Have you seen the outfits yet?” Halsey turned to Sumi and ask.
“Ah, no.” Sumi answered. “I think they will be nice.”
“I’m sure they will.” Halsey smiled. “But then, everything looks good on you.”
Sumi tilted her head, watching as Stylists pulled bags of clothing off the rack. “What do you mean?”
“Just...” Halsey settled herself on the couch next to Sumi. “You’re so pretty, and you just have the kind of body that all clothes look good on. I hope that isn’t weird.”
“No, it’s okay. Thank you.” Sumi thought for a moment. “I guess I don’t usually talk to other girls about my stage outfits. The boys usually just tell me that it looks good or makes my butt look big.”
“Boys.” Halsey rolled her eyes. “Well, you’ve got me now. We’ll deal with them together.”
“Sure.” Sumi smiled. “Have you met Monsta X? I feel like you would really like my friend Zoey.”
“I’ll have to meet her next time I’m in Korea.” Halsey said with a smile. “Visiting you guys is always the highlight of my year.”
“Yeah.” Sumi said. “It’s nice when you visit.”
“Honestly,” Halsey began, “I was beginning to think that you didn’t like me.”
“What?” Sumi said, her eyes widening.
“Just...RM seemed worried. He said that you’re never that quiet, and I was starting to think you just didn’t want to talk to me.”
“Oh!” Sumi exclaimed. “No! I-I guess I’m just tired.”
“Understandable.” Halsey smiled at her. “We’re friends, right?”
“Of course.” Sumi smiled back.
They got into their outfits, and then the staff let the boys come back into the room while they sorted out their outfits.
“Woah!” Jin exclaimed as he came back in. “Our visual!” He playfully spun Sumi around.
“I assume that means, wow she’s so pretty.” Halsey laughed.
“Sure.” Namjoon laughed. He stood next to Sumi, stretching his leg out next to hers. “Yah, are you growing?”
